Can I schedule a subscriber special 250k inspection/maintenance for 2005 custom Mustang in 2025? Heh.. ty yt channel SK~ after our eye exam!!!
Hi Scotty! My mom has a 2007 Honda Odyssey with 150K miles and last year we replaced the alternator for the second time. We just took it in and we need to replace the exhaust and the motor mounts. It could be monster money to replace and my mom is very persistent on fixing it. She was thinking about buying a new car in about a year. Do you think we should buy a car early, or fix that van and see what happens. Cars we’re looking at are VW Atlas V6, Subaru Ascent or Honda Pilot
If it helps any, Scotty, my father is 90. Plus even though I am only 53 I still call the part you were talking about a fan belt. And my 31 year old nephew still knows what I am talking about.
Happy Father’s Day Scotty!! You’ve taught me more about cars and life than my biological dad, It probably don’t mean much to you but from the bottom of my heart gracias!
Man, Sad but true for me as well😂😂
Man he has taught alot of us brotha
Muchas gracias señor ❤️💵🇮🇷🙀
I feel ya dude i feel ya
We all are still holding the flashlight wrong
Happy Father's day Scotty!
Happy Father's Day!
Hey Scotty, did the head sealer work? Happy father's day.
If you didn’t know then this is the best mechanic on the internet .
Hello Scotty!! Happy Father's Day!! You are a superlative human encyclopedia of car knowledge for us out here that don't know CRAP about our vehicles. Much love to you & yours❣️❤️🥰
Hi Scotty! I left a question on your website and this video answers it. Thank you, Scotty! Listening to you is like listening to an uncle because you care about other people like a family! Happy Father's Day! :)
Happy Father’s Day Scotty! You helped me with my passion for fixing cars! I just picked up a 2000 grand marquises for $600 bc it had a broken ball joint, and I replaced both myself! Now I have a great reliable car!
The World is a better place with people like Scotty. 😎✌
Scotty the national treasure of automotive knowledge for the average person for the past 20 years I've been watching Scotty for 10 years thank you Sir for all your lessons in automotive maintenance and repair
Hey Scotty the large oil pan your using is exactly the same one we have been using for 30+ years that we bought from Girot`s garage! Only difference is you still have the big center plug that we lost many years ago. Don`t lose it like we did as Girot`s garage told us they could not get us one. That large oil drain pan we just finished today using to drain some very tired engine oil out of our 1952 8N Ford tractor. The last 2 summers have been so hot here in Oregon its just been to intensely hot to work on equipment. With this cool & damp spring & summer so far we`re catching up on our equipment & vehicles. We have been working on mechanical stuff since 1974.
Hey Scotty you have just solved my problem. I have a 2003 Nissan Maxima Se built in Japan in great condition but when I start my car up I’ve been getting that squealing noise. With the high price of cars today I’m going to keep my car going as long as I can
Happy Father's Day. I got the CV joint clicking going on. I really don't hear it now during the summer, but when it was cold, it was louder.
Loving the old style scotty vids. The new style ones are good too but the flow of these makes it so nice to watch and stay engaged
Happy Father's day, Scotty!
Enjoy watching you teach, even stuff I've actually done.
You're the best Scotty! Appreciate all your hard work, informative AND entertaining 🙂🙂☺️☺️
Nothing like a new video from the old garage with another great topic. I miss seeing the old garage. I swear I saw a ghost in there asking Scott to try out a paraphenomenal product for dead batteries.
Been a long time now since I have seen the ol' Toyota used a shop training tool. That car has some seriously great hood hinges.
Happy Father's Day Scotty!!
I hope your day was a blessed one. Thank you for being a good figure to us all. Teaching us to be modest, humble & honest. & Of course, how to take care of our vehicles lol Stay blessed 💯
On the starter I think it can be a bad solenoid, I replaced the solenoid on my Honda Accord for about twenty bucks. Now it works the way it should.
Thank you, Scotty. I really enjoy and appreciate your videos. I know you don't have to or need to make these videos for us. It's clearly a labor of love. May God bless you, brother! Thank you from the very bottom of my heart.
Big fan of your videos and personally thank you for sharing your years of experience. You’re a rare breed
I had a starter spin, but not turn the motor. The solenoid needed some lubrication to make it work again. That was my first car repair. Studebaker Lark.
First time and young drivers/car owners should have to attend a Scotty class on how to take care of your car..
So much great info for FREE!
Hello Scotty, thankyou for all the input. I always look forward to your videos.
The number one sign your car is screwed is the Dodge, Ram, Jeep, or Chrysler emblems often found on the grill, quarter panel, or rear of the vehicle.
Or Ford, GM, Mercedes Benz, BMW, Volkswagen.......
Or anything that's not a Toyota or Honda
Or just American, British, German cars in general
I thought dodge trucks were still pretty good. I do know that older dodge and Chevy trucks from the late 90s and early 2000s are bulletproof though. Can link videos proving that.
@@Mika-ph6ku Chevy yeah, but neither survive the rust belt. Tundra all the way, not the new turbo model tho
These and the history videos are my favorite Scotty videos.👍🏻👍🏻
Gates belts are the best - they cost more but they're worth it if you plan to keep a vehicle a long time.
Just a tip, look for specific brands like Gates, Dayco, Mitsuboshi, Bando, etc when looking for drive belts. If possible, look for belts that are made in japan (apart from Gates, I think) to ensure they last a long time. Then look for size that fits your car.
HAPPY FATHER'S DAY, SCOTTY!!!
I've learned more from you than my old man 🤣👍
Keep up the good work
Timing belt Price question is something that I agree 💯% by experience. You should listen this guy.
Scotty can fix anything! His knowledge is incredible!
Ive used Barsleak Head Gasket repair on my 04 4Runner about 7 months ago .
So far , so good ...
For a squeaky belt, I would use bar soap. While the engine is running just hold the soap against the contact surface of the belt. Works pretty good.
Check the connections at the starter too. I had loose connections at the starter for some reason and it created a lot of heat, fried the starter lug mounting plastic. Had to replace the starter.
Another great video Scotty, happy Father's day as well.
Scotty is the National father, happy father’s day👏🏻👏🏻
Your a Good Man Scotty,I'm 76 and I miss working on my cars from the old day. I drive for a car Rental Co. And these new cars,I have a problem figuring how to turn on the radio, What is wrong with 2 knobs???HahahaTake Care and keep up the great info....
One of the big maintenance dangers in a leaky power steering system is the damage the fluid can do to the suspension rubber bUshings. This degradation can cause a major expensive repair/replacement of the front suspension components which are many times beyond tHe capabilities of DIY car owner. This is a case where neglecting one problem can lead to a very expensive other problem.
Big respect for Scotty. He still doesn't mind working hard getting hot and sweaty.
Local lady was told by the mechanic that she needed a new head gasket, her family was suspicious, took it to another mechanic, found it only needed a new radiator cap. This is why you should always get a second opinion.
( 3rd opinion she needed a headlight.. 4th opinion she needed brake pads,,, 5th opinion she needed gas,,,,,,,6th opinions she needed a paint job...... etc etc etc)...
Here are your 3 signs according to Scotty.
#1: You have an Audi.
#2: You have a BMW.
#3: Insert any modern European car.
I have a bmw but it doesnt apply to mine😎
Volkswagen
@@mattmekhaeil I got a e36 with 244,xxx ks on it and still runs amazing😎😎😎
Had an Audi A4. Despite not being that old the car was a total nightmare.
@@daniellew376 ya I have an audi a4 and for the first year it was an absolute mess. But it runs perfectly now.
Among the most valuable neighbors you can have is a guy like Scotty.
Happy Father's Day Scotty. I've an 03 Avalon XLS, 202,000 miles and 06 Ford Taurus SEL 172,000 miles Vulcan V6. Both great just ever had to do regular maintenance. What's your thoughts on these vehicles?
Dont crash em? Keep em as long as possible, WHO wants a car payment thats on average 500 dollars or more?
@@BOLIS pay in full, no car payment
@@zacharypeery4082 Gonna be hard to cough up the $20k+ needed for that though. If something unexpected came up like a crash that totaled your car or a major failure in the engine/transmission then 90% of people won't have that much money saved up and ready to dump on a new car.
First one happened to me, was a loose terminal, even after I thought I'd secured it enough. Always double check your own work
Scotty already taught us not to give a darn about ticking and knocking or slipping. You just drain out one liter of that fluid and then you replace it with a liter of Scotty's favorite Lucas stuff. The noise will go away completely or almost completely and the slipping. 😂😂😂 His friends from New Mexico approve. They do billion dollar tests on their special fluids. Lol
As far as the tick in the motor, I've had a 91 grand marquis in fl till I moved to mass in 05, that had a lifter Knock , not a tick, but one lifter or cam lobe was worn and so much the lifter knocked, it ran perfect and I never had an issue with the lifters or can other than the knock. My wife and I had an 01 Chevy Malibu with the v6, bought it for 500 in nh, with like 120k miles in 2013 ,passed inspection the day we bought it, ran good, looked good, had a lifter knock...same thing...never had an issue with the lifters or cam.
As a mechanic 90% of the time if the battery isn't over 4 years old at least in the north woods it's a dirty-loose battery connection or you let the car sit for Months without running it, Some BENZ cars can kill a battery in week with all of those Stupid computers onboard.
I'm actually glad this issue came up in the video because I've had to jump start my sister's 03 Camry 4 times now and I was fearing that a difficult electrical repair was gonna be needed because her battery and alternator are both relatively new. Never even thought to just check the terminals on the battery. I'll go do that and pray the problem is fixed. Can I just use brake cleaner to clean off the terminals or should I use some other substance?
Good Sunday afternoon to you Scotty👋 and Happy Father's Day😲 Grandfather's Day😳 hope you and your family are enjoying it😃👍 BROTHER!🧰👋👋👨👩👧👦
For "Father's day, Scotty's sons ofered him a "24 hours visit" at his old Texas house! 🎆The legend says he drove his Cellica back there! Good memories, Scotty! Ceers!
OR just change the belt at the recommended interval and keep the old belt as a spare (in the car) for emergencies and buy good quality belts (it doesn't pay to go cheap on a drive belt that runs all of your stuff, and in some vehicles, the water pump as well which can lead to expensive damage)--just buy a good quality belt -- you only have to replace them every 5-7 years or 100k miles or so. Most cars it's about 100k or 150k miles. The sad thing when I changed my belt on my Silverado, the belt was fine, but the tensoner pulley went bad before the belt did.... I replaced both anyway as it had about 130k on it and was almost due for a new belt anyway. On the same truck, an odd story but I had a small pinhole leak on the power steering pump that leaked for several months. I kept filling it, but after a while it stopped leaking, for who knows what reason. I don't know why it was leaking in the first place, but you could hear a slight audible whine from the power steering pump. But this went away and never had a problem since it stopped on its own (which I found to be very odd). Continued to drive it for another 3 years after that without issues and still working fine when I sold it.
I did the cheap belt. Still fine 40k later. I keep the old belt as a spare in my vehicles anywats
Sometimes mechanical things do weird stuff!
...this may be a dumb question, but is a drive belt and a serpentine belt the same thing?
Gonna go through all that with the transmission fluid, should have changed the filter too.
Replaced front CV axles on Honda Element twice with aftermarket axles. It was like a bad lift-kit, clang, clunk and growl. I then paid the $600 extra for OEM and it’s fine. My mechanic says his wife’s car has one of each. The aftermarket axle worked on the R side, but it didn’t work on the L. Honda power steering pumps are loud, but they’re fine. I had a noisy pump so I changed the fluid. There wasn’t much change. It quieted down by itself, and that was eight years ago. I’m not biased, I have no love for my Honda dealer, I have an aftermarket alternator, and starter that have worked fine for many years.
Love and appreciate your content so much Scotty! I've learned so much from you. 😄
Use a multimeter (turned to DC voltage setting) to read the voltage of your battery. A good voltage is 12.5V, which is the minimum voltage to start a car. If below that, jump start your car and drive around for 15 minutes for the battery charged up!
I've "fixed" 2 vehicles by literally just replacing the battery cables and nothing else. shitbox #1 would just randomly die sometimes and other times have no connection to the battery at all. quick trip to the auto parts store and 5 minutes to replace those cables, she started right up and hasn't had an issue since
and sometimes engines just tick. nothing to be concerned about, just a lifter. after all, if it ain't tickin' it ain't a Duramax
I need Scotty at the counter next time I need to reproduce a noise! I'll just point at him when the question is asked, and tell him "Take it away, Scotty!"
Always wanted to know this, thx Scotty. For safety you could use a Stethoscope and a rubber to isolate the extra sounds
Ukraine Karen🐒
Steering pump sound was really amazing
Happy Father's Day Mr Scotty you are the best!!
Scotty should be put in phone app like talking cat Tom to answer all mechanical questions 🤣🤣🤣
yeah the intake manifold check engine light, i switched off the security-sensor to open it and it was stuck so i had to locate the sensor unit somewhere hidden between the bottompoint sensor and the camchaintimingsprocketsensor after i pulled the sparkplugs to open the camchaincover to get to the sensor. yeah we got the sparkplugs who keep the head on
Scotty is the best! Thank you Scotty Kilmer
Bars silver sealed up my Venture's Dexcool rotted intake gaskets, been good for 15 years now. My regret is not having bypassed the heater core when I put the sealer in, because the core is plugged up now.
Here's to all the dudes and dudettes that learned more car stuff from Scotty rather than their own dads!
Just replace CV axle few days ago on my Silverado, gotta go back in replace sway bar links🤦🏾♂️
Happy Fathers Day Scotty. 👋🏻
Hey scotty just wanna say the sounds you imitate about the engine are spot on 😝
Important to me , this is so timely, not sure if it's the starter or fuel pump or injector on my 96 Acura Integra.
*HAPPY FATHERS DAY SCOTTY* 9:48 "You're gonna have a really *BAD* day. Reminds me of a situation my son got into. Years ago when my son was 8, he came home for dinner, after playing with his friends & I asked him how his day was. He looked me in the eye with a really serious look and said "I had a really *BAD* day, I got hit in the head with a roof shingle. His friends & him had found a roof shingle & were using it as a frisbee. He wasn't hurt cut wise, just a headache. He was very lucky as the situation could have been catastrophic. Great video Scotty!

Happy Father’s Day Scotty and gates makes the best longest lasting belts yeah their kinda expensive but if you want the best it’s worth the price
Can you make that power steering noise again
Hello 👋 there Scotty!! Hope you had a great Father’s Day sir!!
hello and thank you!
Hey Scotty my car is doing that clicking noise like the CV shaft but my car is rear wheel drive, the car is a 2009 LS460.
do those green and red felt rings on the battery do any good or are they just for looks?
In my case, my car makes a plastic rubbing noise when steering and the engine is at temperature hot. Fluids are fine. Steering feels fine. It's just the noise that is felt on the cabin that drives me nuts. I was told it's some lubricant on the steering column. Added some lithium grease, it doesn't last very much.
You’re a legend.
My first car was a 1983 Chevrolet Camaro I inherited from my sister. My steering wheel started sticking and we put more fluid into the steering pump. Surprise!! I woke up the next morning to a giant red stain on the driveway. Yay!!! We purchased a new steering pump and tried swapping it out, which was problematic because we could not get the pulley wheel off the old pump. By the time we finished several different attempts, the wheelwas destroyed. Luckily, we found a used steering pump at a salvage yard for a nominal price. We took the new pump back to the store for a refund. The manager was PISSED, because the counter help that sold us the pump didn't bother tell us that they have a free loaner tool they would have let us use to pull the pulley wheel. They lost a $90.00 sale (in 1995 dollars!!) because someone didn't open his mouth to help a customer. The replacement pump did its job the remainder of the time I had that car (through the end of 1998).
More great advice from Scotty
Happy Father's Day Scotty got one question working on the preachers 2000 S10 2.2 liter no spark no fuel turns over fine security light flashes when trying to turn over
Scotty went back in time 😲 like the Terminator 🤖 You want to live - come with me 😁 Happy Father's Day 👍
Scotty is a comedian. Its just funny to watch him.
Yes most cv axles do fit but not for the dodge journey I have tried multiple brands and the journey has a tapered end that goes into the Trans and the Trans female end also has a taper so when u put somthing in that's not tapered or not tapered enough it just won't fit I had to get a remanufactured one those are the only ones that fit
Flashback Scotty
The ol garage!
Fun fact. When I bought a 2003 Honda Cr-V, about a month ago, it barely "clicked" under a boost. I bought a new battery and voilà. It starts without any hesitations.
Never put motor oil in a power steering pump. A Friend of Mine's Dad had an old 1970's model Ford Pickup Truck. His Dad put Motor oil in the power steering pump because it was leaking really badly. It made a horrible noise. He finally had to buy a new pump for it.
old Fords had " use type F fluid " ( auto Trans fluid) on power steering dipstick. They were noisy and the fluid always stank.
To Scotty's point, I never use rebuilt anything. Anytime in the past that I received a rebuilt part they always failed in a very short period of time just sfter the warranty on them ended. Buy new and buy OEM. As the saying goes, you can pay me now or you can pay me later.
Rubber hands have no direction 😂🤣 awesome, my eyes are twitching 😎.
Love the content! Anything on truck rear ends hopping at certain speeds?!
that inspection sticker though!!!
Got a power steering pump and pulley with 109 k for my 2000 Silverado for only $35 plus $20 shipping from Marshalls used auto parts Circleville Ohio, they only take driven in vehicles
16:44 brilliant design 😂😂😂
I replaced all the seals on the honda steering pump works perfect now almost 350k miles
If you turn the key and it clicks it may not be the battery. You could have a bad alternator that is not properly charging the battery. If the car runs after jumping it, drive to a auto parts store and have them test the battery and alternator. If it does not, yank the battery and take it to an auto parts store and have them test the battery. It is likely one of three parts: battery, alternator, or starter. Start by eliminating them one by one. It is also possible that your engine is seized, in that case you are screwed.
I was taught to change belts and hoses every three years....vacumn hoses also.
What about a ticking sound when you first start the car after it's been off for a while but the sound slowly goes away after 10-20 seconds
Nice compilation
Yeah my landcruiser 100 1999 is dripping powersteering fluid. Don't know where. both hoses are dirty and oily all the way from the reservoir. And sometimes when I turn the wheels and I have to wait for light or any reason, There's like a mild kicking-pulsing to the steeringwheel =/ Yeah I managed to buy Landcrusier that's a LEMON xD
For AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION preventative maintenance fluid change - could 1/4" or 3/8" plastic tubing be used to siphon out the old fluid up through the dipstick tube (using a pump / gravity siphon) ??? That won't get it all, so the process can be repeated a few times; after matching the removed fluid with new replacement fluid and drive/shift through gears a few minutes to allow it to mix in, then repeat. Each time the resulting mixture gets cleaner...
