    Just goes to show you don't need big muscles to run fast! His quads are virtually non existent!

    • @Cheema0113
      @Cheema0113 8 лет назад +53

      you dont need big quads, but you need strong quads and hamstrings to be fast.

    • @BobSmith-dt6xs
      @BobSmith-dt6xs 7 лет назад +1

      Yeah, quads aren't important for sprinting. His glutes, hamstrings and hip flexors on the other hand are bigger, although to be fair he's not the biggest of sprinters.

    • @totallyraw1313
      @totallyraw1313 7 лет назад +2

      I read that he only weighs 70kg or 154lbs. That is very light for someone who is 5ft 10 inches tall, so he does not have much muscle on his body at all.

    • @totallyraw1313
      @totallyraw1313 7 лет назад +17

      Correct! One of the most common mistakes sprinters and sprint coaches make is trying to train like a powerlifter. Increasing your strength to weight ratio in the gym will not necessarily improve your sprinting. Very often guys who get a lot stronger in the gym are surprised to discover that they can't run as fast as when they were a lot weaker. Ato Boldon once said that he was always his fastest when he was at his weakest. That's not to say that you need to be weak to run fast, but that weight room strength does not translate too well to sprinting speed and it can lead to injuries due to excessive muscle trauma and tightness.
