- I've been busy working on several projects over the past few months. I've also continued to add detail and scenery to the car park scene I built in the previous video. Some new locos have also arrived on the layout in the last 3 months with additional weathering projects getting closer to completion.

Wow, that opening shot sequence of the lighting was incredible - I initially thought it was actually a shot of real life. Fantastic work
The photo from the platform is stunning good as well.
"Is it real real or is it Memorex?" Maybe applicable here?
I've fallen for that before!! The setting is fantastic.
Is not a video game
I was actually going to comment that exact same thing, that is that was a still it could easily be taken for a e=real scene as opposed to a layout. Impressive to say the least.
Has others pointed out: the most realistic mini train set up I've seen.
I'm not a train hobbyist, more a fantasy/military mini collector, when I make small bases and vignettes for them, I always see it as bringing a bit of their world into ours, you are bringing a lot of the 80's back into our time, brings back some memories, it was a great time to be a teenager.
I could honestly listen to you talk about classic cars for hours
I quite like that "garish" canopy lighting -- it's a contrast to the more homely flat lights (The trick with the orange paint for the flats is fantastic!!) that sort of works to distinguish the area and it's kind of in keeping with the rather brutalist architecture of a station like that to be painfully overlit.
If you can find the electronics for it, you could make the odd light here and there flicker on and off like the bulb's going. 🙂
You get flicker lights for dolls houses.
Ah, yes, a blue Vauxhall Cavalier! God, I remember being a back seat passenger in one such vehicle, back in 1996, going to a wedding. Except, the car didn't make it to the wedding. The driver, who was not the owner of the car (the groom was, but he was in the passenger seat with an injury), managed to reverse it into a pond! He looked at all four of us, and said "Well, you said reverse."! But, the update is very good Richard. Incidentally, next time you're up Dean Park's way, you're welcome to come and visit my layout as well!
Cheers Robert. That's a good story!
Really enjoyed the bit about the vehicles (and share the pain with trying to find ones that are "correct"). Thank you!
Flat roofs need stagnant puddles just right for pigeons. The pavements look spot on with the colouring.
This was shown to a work colleague during our lunch hour. From the early shots she thought it was a real railway not a model. Merry Christmas.
I restored a Mk1 Corsair with the cherry interior and V4 engine! It had sat in a field in Southern Ireland for 22 years. Had to make the front scuttle as you cannot but these with the foglight holes.
This is the best layout I’ve seen, the realism is off the scale! Love the videos, and thanks for the Cosworth ad, my daughter Sierra loved it. 😁
Every time that I come back it just gets better and better.
As a child of the 70s and 80s this really resonates with me - it makes me quite nostalgic! All it needs is for everything to be dripping with permanent rain....
You make a very valid point re disability access and awareness. I became disabled in 1990 (Wheelchair bound) - even in those heady days - I had some truly eye watering experiences on our trains. Like for example being told that I couldn't take my wheelchair into the first class wheelchair space because its batteries might explode - and would have to place the wheelchair in the guards van of the HST - right above the diesel fuel tanks. And as if to make this sound even more like a good TV Sitcom - Virgin's Answer was "Our train Managers are highly trained in their task of ensuring passenger safety!" - my illusion that they'd just hired any old idiot and given it a posh uniform wasn't shattered! My wheelchair had dry gel batteries that Virgin would fly in the normal aircraft hold at 38,000feet!!! Im loving your videos - and always look forward to them. Excellent stuff.
I should add that that happened in 2003 on a service from Rhyl to London!
Fortunately things are much better these days despite there still being several shortcomings/issues regarding disability access on public transport. As always I try to model what stuff was like back then rather than what I think it should be like. I'd still consider your experience shocking though, especially for 2003!
@@EverardJunction I had some amazing experiences on trains - including preventing a train leaving because they hadn't offloaded me and the wheelchair - well what else was I going to use 12 years railway work experience for? I knew that if they couldn't close the doors they couldn't move the train and that once Id removed the magnetic key from the wheelchair's motor - it was going nowhere! lol
I love the fact that you model as it was - that's as it should be :)
Have followed this from building of the baseboards. I am impressed beyond words. You are now approaching photographic realism.
The weathering on the wagons is outstanding
started watching this channel back in like March 2020, finally found it again today. Glad you've been keeping up the great standard of work :)
so realistic.. even down to the cable trough covers not being replaced squarely... I've subscribed..!!
Great layout and love the geezer against the wall for me this layout is my favourite the era as I remember well growing up.
Another great video. Seacows, first batch were riveted like Sealions. Sealions had Air and vacum brakes, Seacows had air brakes but only a vacum through pipe. The Dogfish hoppers on the GN had extra steel raves welded to the top of the sides and ends.
You don't upload often (love that) but when you do it's bloody gold
I'm a new subscriber, discovered this channel a couple of days ago. I collect 1/64 scale cars and your scrapyard video is alot of inspiration for my junkyard diorama im going to be working on. Keep up the amazing work
loved the not the nine o'clock news clip griff rhys jones great update richard.................tony
You must imagine yourself as Gulliver with your quest for detail and realism. The dimming of lights, converting cars to base models and repainting them, the bits of trash, and of course the trains and track. I can tell the little people are happy.
Fantastic detail, superb, you got it just right. Love the repair patches in the car park.
I think I've already used up every adjective to describe the beauty of your layout.
Repeatingly excellent.
My best wishes for X-Mas !
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it, cheers.
please transport me back to the 80s for the love of god .... amazing i owned a lot of them cars there , mostly bought for cheap in the 90's :(
That whole station area is superb
This channel has been an absolute gift, the updates are a constant delight. Watching this layout grow and improve has been so much fun. Can't wait to see what 2023 brings. Merry Xmas, sir!
I have To say I have no Interest in Model Trains or layouts but your attention to detail and Enthusiasm makes me watch your channel and thoroughly enjoy it.
I'll recommend you Luke Towan's channel then. I found that and watched the lot!
@@peterbroad1772 Yes you are right, Been subbed for three years,
I will sum this video of your layout as SUPERB. Martin. (Thailand🎄🎄🎄)
Merry Christmas and happy New year , enjoyed all your posts great to see the layout evolve , thank you for sharing , see you in 2023 all the best 🎅⛄👍❄️🌈
This has probably got to be the most realistic and excellently styled layout I have ever seen. Award winning for sure.
Another fantastic video - your craftsmanship is outstanding
A great video Richard. I do like engineers train! Great mix of wagons. Thanks for the shout out for the competition. I’m sure scoonie hobbies will be glad to know he was able to help get you a good 47. Cheers. Dave
The Strictly final AND a new video from Everard Junction! Too much excitement for a Saturday night. Can’t wait to watch the layout update.
Oh wait! Strictly? Surely not. I’ve a video uploaded too ;-)
@@DeanPark
OMG! Any more and I’ll hyperventilate! 👍💙
Bro I don’t even have a model railway but watch ALL your videos. What you do and your attention to detail is mind blowing!!!!!! Your set looks unbelievable. The best I’ve ever seen. 😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮
Your new paving slabs look amazing real, so much better than the card ones you used before, the scale is so much better. The card ones looked like they would have been 6 inches thick in real life. And the different colouring of the slabs is the icing on the cake, just like the real things. Loved the dark opening scene, that looked so real, and the paint you have used on for the tarmac reflected the light just the right amount to make it look like the tarmac was damp. just like it would be on a dark and damp winters evening.
The main issue with the card ones was it looked to me like the paint or solvent was absorbed and the edges swelled-up slightly in a way that could never happen in concrete or stone.
Merry Christmas and a good and healthy 2023 for you and your family! Cheers Onno.
This is awesome ! I wish I could have an attic in my house . I love the detail
What can I say? Absolute incredible modelling! Your attention to detail is second to none Richard, very impressive update and a Dean Park video on the same day, perfect 👍 cheers Darrell
I love what you've done with the cars, converting them to the more mundane models in instead of gti's. With the weathered/satin finish, they're spot on!! Amazing effort.
Fantastic attention to detail.
It's a work of art. Well done 👍🏻
Great up date do like your new arrivals the lighting does look well I owned one r two of the car's in the car park and yes they ended up in the scrapa a friend of mine changed the colour of his cortina every other week with wot ever he had in his shed lol thankyou for the memories and video
I continue to love the scrapyard. The amount of work and attention to detail is mind-blowing.
I love having this little world to immerse myself in. Lovely escapism.
The layout just gets better and better. So much detail.
Always look forward to your updates. It was great to see your downgrading of the Ford models and bring back memories of all the old Adverts. I worked for Ford in the Parts division from 1971 to 2003 so saw a number of the launch videos at the time. Have a great Christmas.
As someone whos not into trains or model making i keep finding myself coming back to EJ, Ive finally sussed it Rich, its the details like paining the lights different layers, i find it very therapeutic/relaxing that into was top notch brother, keep on keeping on my brother, your love speaks volumes bob&MrTao,xxx those figures are quite unique, stand alone well, dam good job that man xx
Again, great to see our ModelSigns street lights alongside your own creations! …another brilliant layout update! Looking forward to the next one!
Cheers Chris. They set the mood nicely!
Really enjoy watching your videos.
My stepdad had a Sierra Ghia. Seriously specced car for the age! There's also a company called Base Toys who do 1/76 vehicles as well.
Love a Sierra, good cars. Base Toys don't make cars, they do trucks and commercials. The car part of the Hobby is dominated by Oxford. They have some big gaps in the range.
Having followed your channel since lockdown and coming back into the hobby it's quite amazing to see what can be achieved. Thank you for sharing what you do. The how to videos you produce are very useful i should add. Thank you again.
Cheers Mark, glad you enjoy the videos.
Lovely progress. Really enjoyed it.
Once again, as everyone else agrees, a cracker of a video showing your attention to detail is second to nice Richard.
So glad you gave the pavement another go. I’d never want to say anything that could be even considered as criticism, but the one thing I did always notice was how the pavement slabs would curl slightly due to the cutting and would result in quite an uneven appearance. The idea to do them with plastic is great and they look amazing now.
Cheers, nothing is set in stone and I'm always prepared to change and improve stuff as I go. I wasn't happy with the pavement after I painted it but decided to leave it for a while before coming up with a fix.
As a classic/antique restorer, I give you props on you’re realistic approach with the cars.
It’s been a while since I’ve seen your videos, but WOW! Your layout is well beyond what I thought you would have done. Again, props!
Wow wow wow, I’ve just started watching your videos. I don’t have a railway layout but want to do a village scene with moving cars & found you while looking up Magnorail. I’m just working my way through all your videos as I love your scenery.
What a brilliant layout. I watch 'Paul Restorer ' on RUclips working his magic on model vehicles.
Hi Richard, the improvements you continue to make on your layout is to be highly commended, Your ingenuity knows no bounds. Your layout is outstanding, congratulations. Cheers Greg
Totally agree with P if you don’t know that it’s a model railway you would certainly think it was a real train. Very very well done 👍
Interesting comments about the lowering of spec of the cars. You see the same thing in the classic car world. Not only are high spec cars more desirable and survive in higher numbers, lower spec cars tend to get up-specced with parts. It's almost refreshing to go to a classic car show and see something like a fleetline Cortina which were very common as company vehicles back in the day. Your see this in films too, rows of exact period cars highly polished, instead of 10 year old heaps with holes in the wheel arches.
You should be really pleased with your efforts Richard, on some of those shots I almost expected people to walk into shot around a corner, the level of realism you have achieved is incredible. The lighting in some of the night shots gives one the feeling of watching the real thing, beautifully done Richard, thank you for sharing.
My father had several model railway layouts over the years but with four boys always willing and over eager they were never his ideal vision of what he wanted, but as a family we always had fun and great memories to cherish.
What a difference from where it all started , also love how you tone down the cars ...Well done and all the best !
This is unreal, words cannot explain how amazing and skilled you are, one day I hope I can get on this level (or any level) of modelling, can’t wait to see more of your updates and thanks for making these videos 🙏
The Lighting in the Parking Lot area is perfection Richard! I have never seen a more realistic layout in England or North America (And I have been lucky enough to have seen and operated on many!). The only Area that requires bright light is on the platforms, as my memories recall being able to see the train car numbers and engine types easily.
Nice job (and explanations) on the road vehicles. You certainly opened my eyes... but I doubt I would invest much time into that realism... as long as it looked "fair"! Locomotives and Rail Cars are of course "Paramount"!
Now what you need is lights turning on & off at random times !
You don't have to be a nerd or a geek to love this channels content ..And that's coming from a geek like me. Everard Junction is always amazing to watch. Happy holidays all!
Cheers, glad you enjoyed it! I try to keep it fun but it can get very nerdy very quickly, I do a lot of editing!
Happy Christmas and more crucially, Quality Street! Toffee wrappers single ply or double ply give a good tone down to leds, and the red cellophane and blue can be useful as well.
Love those cars, so much detail and precision. So much, in fact, that it's easy to forget how small they are! Well done.
Fantastic update. The new lay out is now definitely in a jolly superb state of progress, and detailing is being brought to an astounding new level. There was a shot which had us tricked as if looking at a picture of the real building from the back. Wow! Cheerio, and a Happy Merry December season🎄🌲🌲
just splendid work thanks for the update 😊😊👍👍.
The new pavement looks excellent, as does the lighting. I'm glad it wasn't just me finding the GTE heading towards a tree!
The layout is looking really good the lighting looks amazing throughout
Fantastic work again. I recall seeing regularly cars from late 60s & 70’s with different coloured panels and I had a white Morris minor van with at least 3 different colours from bits I replaced from scrap yards. Appreciated your comments on disabled facilities being in short supply during the 80s. Loved the dodgy geezer too.
Superb. The way you finessed the car park and cars is beautiful and very realistic. Always a joy to watch your videos. 😊
I love the detail you did on the cars, back in the 70’s when I was growing up we used to call Fords Ford takeaways as they always got robbed 😆
If there's going to be pigeons up there, then you need a whole lot of pigeon poop to compliment them!
So refreshing to get back to YOUR reality, its so much better than a lot of others. Your attention to detail is amazing, there were so many places that i drove trains past in the 1980s that you make so recognisable. There are many channels that sow lots of trains, but many of them do not have any crews driving them. You have population all over the place, plus p-way, orange overalls, passengers and crews. I absolutely love what you have done. I always used to wonder about who those people were in all those houses and flats that i drove past and yes, you name it and i have seen it. If i could shrink down to scale, i could walk around in your little world and recognise it all. Have a happy Christmas and a great new year. Thankyou very much. I worked on network southeast and so did my nephew. We were both drivers and he is now retired as well.
I really enjoyed your excellent video and agree with Puddings 3112 the initial opening shoots where so real. The night one's bringing back memories of a station of the period.
The billboard for Superkings had me do a quick search! Tobacco advertising was banned in 1990 for TV and printed media. However billboards and sports were excluded until 1999! I love the attention to detail you have and I'm sure you must have been aware of this.
I just love your updates and your attitude. You really are a credit to the hobby. All the best and take care. Maz
There is a footbridge under construction :)
Fantastic progress. So much detail. Thank you for sharing.
Trully stunning. Wonderful stuff - better than I could do!
I’ve been an avid follower of your channel for a while. I don’t have a layout myself but have found it a massive help with my modelling of a large model of a football stadium.
Your layout and your modelling skills and eye for detail is staggering. I do love watching many model railway channels but yours is another level. Absolutely magnificent.
Thanks a lot! Glad you enjoy the videos, more on the way of course. Cheers
Just what I've been waiting for 😇 love watching these before sleep gets to me 😅
Factory weathering has certainly come a long way but still can't compare to the individual modellers artistic touch. Fantastic work, I really enjoyed the update. Thanks for sharing. -grant
Just brilliant. The level of detail in every aspect of this update is superb. I'm probably most impressed with the lighting temperature differences achieved for the flats. Great work with the tatty cars too. Have a great Christmas and New Year into 2023.
Growing up in a region you are modeling (Reading) and in the same era, the car lower-spec re-modeling and comments/video inserts are spot on! Plus I’ve owned a few of these too. The layout overall and rolling stock are amazingly realistic, thanks for the detailed commentary which make your videos so interesting.
Wow this is one the most detailed layout I've ever seen on RUclips excellent job 👏
Amazing. Your attention to detail and artistic eye are mind-blowing. Respect for your dedication!
It's really enjoying the work you make every time... Maybe a crazy idea, but wouldn't you like a small chip shop / van in the parking lot .. You can also put a light in it ....
Just wanted to say I love the cars and think you are right about the importance of getting these right. I am biased as I drive a 3 door Escort mk3 1.1 pop so It was nice to see you make one of these. I also have a Capri ghia so the mk2 you have in the station car park always catches my eye. Really impressed with the lighting on the buildings too, fantastic work as always.
The varied colour temperature lights in the flat looks absolutely fantastic! Could I suggest while doing night time shots for video, you may find a cheap LED RGB video light useful. If you bounce the light off your ceiling, dim it very low and set it to very cool colour temp, 7000-9000k, this will give you a twilight look as if the sun has just gone down. This will allow the camera to capture some of the detail in the low-light areas. (You may find you need to set your cameras white balance manually to 5600k, if you aren't already doing this).
Just a thought! Absolutely loving your work, keep it up!
47526 looks incredible straight out of the box! I'm amazed
Hi, Merry Christmas and a happy New Year
Steve
Excellent layout and progress - reminds me of the late BR Intercity days and early NSE of 90's; miss those days a lot
Hi Richard, a very nice update, your layout is truely inspirational and always a joy to watch. I loved your descriptions of how the cars of the 1980's used to "just" fall to pieces. I bought my first second hand car in about 1983 a Triumph Dolomite 1500HL and every car, even decent ones went rusty after a while. I even once had a Meastro, it was horrid, and a Vauxhall Astra GTE, that was great, but rusted after a few years. Anyway, great stuff and thank you. All the best Dave.
Great stuff Richard your portrait of the era is spot on, I was a teenager in the 70’s. Loved the Not The Nine O Clock News snippet. For those who don’t know Sir Robert Mark was the Commissioner of The Metropolitan Police. Love the Dapol 59, having seen it on your layout think I need one.
The lighting came out AMAZING on the block of flats, completely nailed the aesthetic and gloomy feeling. Very nice work!
You really are a very gifted modeller..fantastic eye for detail and beautifully executed.
Very nice work!
