Congratulations Richard, owning your own home is no small achievement in this day and age. Looking forward to the next stage of the journey. There is no DIY project that can't be solved with RUclips and the DIYUK forum on Reddit.
Good luck with the new house and in time the new layout. Life is full of ups and downs, some you see coming others catch you by surprise. But your positive attitude will see you through it, and we will all see a new layout in the coming years. All the best Terry
May I add my own congratulations on acquiring an enviable site to eventually receive Everard Junction Mk 2. Good luck! It's a heavy slog but you'll get there!
No easy achievement but as a homeowner myself, one worth doing. After having three awful landlords in a row with damp, terrible heating etc I now have my own health and my own fate in my own hands. Not relying on a slumlord. It's no easy thing, but well worth it
Cheers, it's certainly been a challenge to reach this stage. I'm really enjoying the DIY jobs on the house, RUclips has been very helpful with that. Should have somewhere to do some modelling again in the next few months.
Hi Richard, I’ve just seen you on Tv, a program, Hornby A Model Empire. I live in Perth Western Australia. I recognised your voice. Not sure if it’s been on before. Renovating a house will definitely keep you busy, well done buying your first home. It’s a shame you can’t use a room on the ground floor in the house for your railroad. Creality have brought out new 3D printers, K1 and K1 Max. I bought the K1, 220mm 220mm 250mm build plate, the K1 Max is 300mm 300mm 300mm, these are great 3D printers, check them out before you decide which 3D printer your going to buy. Cheers.
Hi, i dont think you will see this but i just wanted to say. Me and my dad loved your videos we loved the detail, commentary and the amazing shots. My dad passed in febuary 2024, Thanks so much. Its such a comfort to watch now.
Richard, this channel in my opinion is as much about you as your models. Your effort, knowledge and expertise is second to none and you and your layout will obviously go on to much bigger and better things. Congratulations on the new house, would love to see some renovation videos. Sorry to hear about the old job but delighted you found something so quickly. Really looking forward to your new videos. You are definitely number one in my book. Rob
Cheers Rob, pleased to hear those words. Its certainly been up & down lately but I had a stroke of luck with the new job. I'm working hard on the house & career right now but in a few months I should be able to do some modelling again.
What I love is that he's true to his vision. Too many people make exceptions to their models and eras that they are modeling. Richard works hard to maintain the proper style of what he wants to show without making exceptions. That's what makes it authentic to me.
Richard, I’ve always been impressed with your ability to tear-up things that are not perfect and make them right - whether that is the badly warped baseboards of Everard Junction 1.0 or the troublesome fiddle yard point work on Everard Junction 2.0. I’m sure the same can-do attitude you possess that makes this channel such a joy to watch will help you rebuild your career and your new home in the months to come. I’m so very excited for Everard Junction 3.0 and all the new space you have to create something new. I thank you for sharing all your hard work with us and I wish you the very best of luck as you dust yourself off to begin anew.
Thanks John. I'm looking forward to the future, plenty of work ahead but there's a lot of potential in that loft. Hopefully in a few months I'll be able to get back into some modelling again.
Huge congratulations on the new house and very relieved to hear that your employment troubles haven’t derailed the home ownership dream. I understand that the RUclips algorithm tends to ignore channels who don’t post for a long period, so please keep us all updated with the prep work you do on the attic to prepare for building Everard Junction 2.0. Hopefully that will keep a bit of extra income coming in from the channel as well. Best wishes and lots of 💪🏻 for the renovation.
That's gonna be Everard Junction 3.0, if you remember the original layout with the Helixes that caused Richard so many problems and the lower level that had warped MDF baseboards...
@@Morganstein-Railroad Didn’t realise- I only came to know this channel with the current layout . It’s good that the new house will give so much more potential with the extra space- it’s going to be a great journey.
@@simonroberts5No offense meant Simon. He did have a lot of trouble with the original - his videos of the lower level baseboards were horrific. As richard said, it was a wonder that the trains ran at all on the lower level by thwe time he started version 2.0, and the helixes were getting harder to maintain also. Do you have a channel/ I'll have to check that out. I've only got a couple of videos on mine, but your welcome to have a look.
Honestly, I am absolutely gutted to see this layout not get to being finished, I’ve been eagerly watching for the last 7 years or so. But, a massive congratulations to you for buying your own house! I’ve had my own renovation for the last 4 years - it’s been a difficult experience, but one that I wouldn’t have wanted to go without all the same. So good luck to you, and I’m very excited to see what comes with your next layout! 😊
Cheers mate. I've done quite a bit to the house so far but it's certainly a job for years to come. While I would have liked to see the layout finished I'm glad for the change of scenery. The last 18 months were quite difficult as I was more interested in moving rather than modelling.
Great news! I’d recommend installing a velux (or equivalent) for light and ventilation. Looking forward to seeing how your project unfolds over the coming years.
@@EverardJunction Richard I would seriously recommend the projection type about 140wide x 98high although expensive and heavy to install, my place was improved beyond belief when fitted. You can have flyscreens fitted too, a must when fine weather arrives. Greetings from Brittany ! Bob
Richard, two of the most stressful events one can experience in life and all coming at once! Out of this comes opportunities, I suspect the most difficult thing to find in the coming months will be time. I am sure we can all wait and go back to episode one again. Thank you for producing such a great channel
@@timfellows8334 Time is certainly the issue at the moment. I spend every spare minute I have renovating, filming it would slow me down. Hopefully in a few months I'll have a space to do some modelling again. Cheers
I wish you well in the next page in your life, Richard. Thanks for being such an inspiration to people like me. I rejoined the hobby due to watching your outstanding model railway workmanship, I even started my own RUclips channel which I could of never dreamed of ten years ago. Many thanks and best of luck to you. You can't beat owning your own home, I recommend it. Looks like you've got a reasonably loft there too. Also sorry to hear about you losing your job, but glad you've secured another. Atvb Graham 🙂
Thanks Graham, the last few months have been a roller coaster. House is coming along nicely though. I'll post some more videos once I have more news /progress.
Very exiting! You need to create a separate channel for the renovation of the house. That will bring you a whole different, (but just as passionate), group of viewers.
Sorry to hear about your job Richard, stress I’m sure you could have done without. Good luck with the new job. Will be following the next update with interest. 👍
Congratulations on your new house, Richard. Such a purchase is always stressful and even more so when an involuntary change of job is in the picture as well. You have been though a lot! I look forward to seeing your progress in future videos. Your contributions to the hobby are appreciated by many, I'm sure. Cheers from Wisconsin!
Congratulations on the new house, Richard! Very sorry to hear about about the redundancy, having been there myself I know how devastating it can be, hopefully you don't make the mistake I did and try to get through the emotional aspects alone... you have 92000 of us to vent to here! :) Really looking forward to seeing the house coming along and the birth of the next railway :)
It’s amazing how many of us have probably bought a house to suit our hobbies…I know I did. It had to have a cellar or loft for an indoor layout and a garden for a garden railway. I also wanted a big garage and my wife wanted space for her piano and a hobby room. I made a suggestion about velux windows, I’d add to that and recommend making provision for anything else that may go on the roof such as PV panels or vacuum panels for hot water if at all possible and avoid any disruption to the layout
Totally agree with you, the one thing i was looking for when buying my new house was somewhere to keep all my dive kit, where it can be washed and dried and stored securely.
Thanks Richard for your fine videos over the years and I wish you the very best for the future especially despite your recent big setback job wise. Looking forward to your next videos even if your layout is not the main priority. Yours is one of my favorite channels along with Chandwell. 😊
Hi Richard well done on you buying your first home and dropping on to a new job. like the rest of your subscribers iam looking forward to a new chapter with a new layout good luck on the renovations
Congrats on finding your dream home! I look forward to coming on the exciting journey with you. Just got to the end of the video. What a shock that must have been! I wish you well as you sort things out & I for one will stick with you & the channel.
The smartest thing I ever did was convince my wife that I was the one for her but the 2nd most intelligent thing I have been part of was the purchase of our home. When I think about it I have done maybe 10 things in my entire life that could I consider truly smart and half of them have to do with our home. What you mention regarding the renovation of your home is so much more important than PlasticCard and an air brush... When you flush the toilet, "it" needs to go away forever. When the wind and rain pelt your home, it has to stay on the outside. Sun through your own windows is a joy to behold. Being warm in the winter and cool in the summer is NOT overrated. I am my wife's partner, we are partner's with our home, and after 14 years I have almost finished the attic over the garage for use as a hobby room. When it gets down to base levels - remember Murphy's Law on Everything (model railroading, auto repair, dental care, home improvement, whatever...) GOOD, FAST, CHEAP. Pick two. Turn your house into your home. The rest will follow.
Hats off to you Richard for what will be another great project to take on but also for the time and effort you have put into Everard Junction 2 to get it to such a high standard only to have to walk away from it as such and start again. Best of luck with the new venture and congrats on the new house also
Richard, so sobering to watch your update. Your tenacity to face all the challenges before you these last months and still be a positive individual is an inspiration for many of us. Having followed your channel for a number of years it’ll be very rewarding to watch you build Everard Junction 3.0 and with my own aspirations on building into the loft space of my own home I’m relishing your future videos on how you’ll prepare your loft for your new layout. Wishing you the very best of luck with all your future endeavours.
A man of your talents wasn't going to be out of work for long, best of luck Richard with the new job and house. I have just ordered track for the first time since I dismantled my layout in my parents home similarly to yours but that was in 1987 so I'm starting my first layout in 36 years! I really look forward to your new layout development as finally I will be along for the train ride too. 😃Your videos have been an inspiration and a great substitute over the years whilst unable to build a layout myself so thanks again for the time and effort. I know you want to keep most of Everard Junction to take with you but maybe you should auction it, you have quite a following and would raise a fair sum for new projects? Maybe too awkward? Anyway, keep us posted! 👍
Been there, bought it, converted a similar loft, did major gutting/rebuilding/refitting and built large extensions. ALL works done myself from design and planning, digging foundations, ground works, blockwork/brickwork, underpinning, plastering, framing, roofing, electric and plumbing, fixtures and fittings and decorating, all done by me single-handedly whilst bringing up 3 young sons too! So, good luck Richard, as you can see from my experience, it's very doable. My loft advice, conform to the building regulations for a habitable room with good insulation, strong floor and at least two Velux windows, one being MOE. DON'T buy a combi boiler for heating/hot water, they constantly have reliability issues. ALWAYS have standard condensing boiler with a separate hot water tank (with emersion heater backup), bullet proof and cheaper. Have a gravity fed unpressurised central heating system with a small header tank, it's uncomplicated and just works! ATB, Julian
Getting to see you start from scratch and show us your skills again is just fantastic. Congrats on the new job and home. Looking forward to the next update!
Greetings from Germany. Wonderfull news! Congratulations on your house. Can't wait to see the steps of renovation and the new start for Everard Junction.
First time commenting on your videos but firstly congratulations on the purchase on your new home! I just wanted to extend my thanks for all your quality videos. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed your uploads, especially throughout the various lockdowns, your videos kept me staying optimistic and found a new enjoyment for the hobby during those uneasy times. Really look forward to watching the progress on your next layout - if this is anything to go by it’ll be executed flawlessly.
What a blow, Richard, but I'm so, so glad you managed to find a similar job. I really hope all goes well, both at work and on your renovation project, and look forward to hearing from you, again, when you have the time. All the best,
How exciting - for you and us! Personally I would be interested in following all your renovations or as many as you can or want to share. Good luck with it all x
Congratulations Richard, I wish you all the fun doing the renovations as you have building the layout that you have now. Looking foward to see more videos
Congrats on the new place, nothing like a blank canvas to get the creative juices flowing. Congrats from Detroit! Sorry to hear about the job situation…
Well done Richard, lots of work to be completed before Everard Junction is up and running. Looking forward to all the videos of your build. Take Care Mike HO from Australia.
Congratulations, wish you well with setting everything up and can't wait to see what you do with the attic! Thank you for all the videos, they have inspired me to dust off my childhood trainsets and start again with the hobby in my late twenties.
Had a layout in a similar loft in the UK. So pleased that I retired to Portugal where my loft already has a full stairway and a concrete floor. It makes a difference I can tell you. You will probably spend as much on your loft alterations as I spent on my entire house.
Nice update Richard. Congratulations on the house purchase! the dream has now become a reality. It will be sad to see the current layout go but as long as things can be saved from the current layout then that's all good. Glad to hear you have found a new job and I wish you all the best for the future. Looking forward to seeing the loft conversion. - Nicholas.
Congratulations with the house purchase (and best wishes with the renovations) … oh no about the company … but another congratulation and good luck with the new role! What a rollercoaster start to the year! It’s been great watching the developments of Everard Junction version one then two … very much looking forward to watching version three in the coming years. Ps Also look forward to seeing version 4 take shape … 12:01 … the garden railway!! 😜
Wonderful news, Richard! I think I can speak for all your loyal supporters here on YT, when I say we’ll be here waiting for things to unfold as they happen. I will miss your current layout, as I’m sure you will as well, but change is the only constant in life. It’s encouraging that you’ll have the space , and then some, to create as you have done in the past. Good luck with the Reno, and do keep us in the loop as things pop up concerning the future Everard Junction.
Congratulations on your new home - and commiserations on the job front. I am sure that both will work out well for you. I look forward to seeing your new layout - and thanks for the brilliant content so far!
Great video, as ever. Just thought I'd say 'good luck', and genuinely wish you all the best with your railway, new house, new job and life in general. Interested in the loft development, please continue share.
Congrats Richard on being a homeowner. I went through that for the first time myself so know your pain! I’ve absolutely loved seeing the current Everard Junction being built from scratch, and I look forward to seeing its successor come to life in time too. Fully appreciate the time spent thinking it all through to do it properly first time 😁
Massive congratulations to you Richard and sorry to hear you've had such trouble with work. You're very grounded with you attitude to our hobby, buying a home is a major life event so remember to take your time with the channel. I'm really looking forward to mk3 Everard junction in a new locatio in good time. Your channel goes from strength to strength, all the best.
Congrats Richard, yes a big step but exciting news.I would definately be following your progress, either railway or house related, best of luck with the new job!
Good luck Richard I love you channel over the years.. I remember the first episode I started watching on your first layout.. and the rebuild this is Pete from St Michael’s junction.. take care looking forward to seeing you updates in the near future.. bye for now.
Well done on the new dwelling! Moving your present beautiful layout to preserve as much of it as possible will be an interesting (if daunting) task. I've been following you for the past several years and have been blown away with your expertise. Best going forward!
What a rollercoaster, as you say :) best wishes for getting back to stability, and I'm looking forward to seeing the progress, whenever you manage to get to it!
Many congratulations Richard on getting your new home. The attic looks a great size and no doubt you will use the available space to great effect. Great idea with the spare room turning it into a work / model room. I’ve got similar and it’s excellent when you can let a project evolve without having to put it away each and every time. Always a frustration when after working so hard a company goes into administration especially when you end up being owed, that said so pleased to hear that you’ve got another job. Once again congratulations, take care and look forward to the next update……at whatever point you’re in a position to get around to it. Best Gary
Well done on your recent property purchase. Have been following your layout construction for many years now, since your first layout. Your articulation and knowledge and voice are a pleasure to listen to. I will be a pensioner next month and have always wanted to build a good large layout but have no experience but have just recently attended the Preston club. The reason that I am commenting and for the first time is that my skills and experience may compliment your needs, which is that of a property developer both in renovation and new builds. My suggestion, which may feel extreme but is not and that is to lower the ceiling height in your bedrooms. You can achieve this by removing the existing ceilings and replace the joists with 8x2. By doing this it would give you the structural integrity and addition head room. Bedroom ceilings are perfect at only 2.3m, so you can calculate the increased headroom benefit., it would be worth the temporary disruption, both from your train room and capital increase of the property. We have also removed chimney stacks and repaired the roofs as required. This could then lead to a dormer at the rear of your property. My son and I are prepared to offer you free of charge two weeks to complete the ceiling reduction. The only thing I request is the benefit of your assistance with my own layout construction and You Tube guidance and perhaps a viewing of your layout. Please get in touch if you are interested or even if you are not. Not sure how communication commences. Regards David
This is indeed extremely generous! It’s good to see humanity at its finest. I’m sure Richard will at least get in touch. Can’t beat the “ barter “ system!”
An interesting thought David and thank you very much for offering to help me out. My ceiling joists are only attached to the rafters and rest on some of the internal supporting walls around the staircase. The roof of the house extends into the bedrooms so basically there is no wall plate for the ceiling joists to rest on at the sides of the property. I'm not sure what implications this may have on strengthening the ceiling. I was of the mindset that it would require steelwork or flitch beams. I've not investigated much into yet. Cheers
@@EverardJunction I have lowered many a ceilings messy but always worth it and as yet not found an issue that cannot be solved and the mess is very short term. The fact that you have a pulin construction opens up many opportunities as the roof weight is already stable and would not want to spread. In my past life before property investment I was a fully qualified quantity Surveyor so do understand the construction and the consequences of alteration. Would enjoy and look forward to a met and discus what you can acheive. Remember you will be adding capital value, also you will be obliged to put in place the appropiate insulation to satisfy the new regs but again this is only good because of the reduced running costs. The insulation would be 50mm between your rafters and 100mm below your rafters which of course reduces you head room. You mention wall plate but your ceiling does not have to span to your external walls, also have done this and do have photographs of the result. Basically you remove 4 course s of brick work which could be 5 or even 6, on your load bearing walls or what is appropiate. I use four becase the beams are normaly 2 courses in height. The purlin width determines the minimum benefit. Thank you for replying and would certainly enjoy helping you, as I wondered what you were going to do following the completion of Everard Junction 2 and would miss following you, so sellfish reasons why I want to assist in your future journey on "Eveard Junction 3", possibly. I would recommend you do a quick survey and a scaled drawing, to determine how much you would benefit. What I am suggesting is no more difficult and in some ways easier than trying to ensure the existing construction is adequate and with the benefit of increased headroom and capital value. Look forward to visiting or speaking direct. Do you have access to my email? David
@@davidthompson3562 You can send me a direct message on rmweb or instagram. From there we can exchange proper contact details to further discuss what might be possible. My upstairs bedrooms have a 2.4m ceiling height already. If I was to lower them there isn't much to play with. However I'm open to suggestions and you certainly have more experience on this matter than I do. Cheers
Good luck with your new home! I first saw Everard Junction when you were taking apart your previous layout with the "spirals". I've looked forward to every episode since then, from the building of the tables to the present. I look forward to seeing your new layout develop over time.
Excellent news on the house Richard nice one! Sorry about the job, you were very proud of it and rightly so. Glad to know you're sorted with a similar one. I think any employer will be lucky to have someone with you're skills and talent. Looking forward to seeing progress on the new layout but all in good time! From one mechanic to another best wishes. Crabbers.
Congrats on the new home! Definitely would be interested in seeing how you setup your modelling room and then the loft. The videos don't need to be too polished - just sharing your journey to getting started on the new layout is enough.
Oh wow - an opportunity to re start from scratch - Congrats on the new house, and although I really envy you the space you have, I don't envy the work involved but oh boy am I looking forward to the transformation! Please keep us updated on everything, Regards Steve
So sorry to hear about the job, but really pleased you’ve found another, hope that works out. Well done on the house purchase, that was a surprise, I really hope the future works out well for you, and the layout rebirth is a great project. All the best 👍
Congratulations on your first home, I’ve been following you since you built the Diesel refuelling depot on the old layout and have not missed an update nothing like buying your first home. I remember moving in and having nothing but a sleeping bag perched on top of some old settee cushions. It’s always great to have projects to look forward to, to complete my home we only need a re-roof (Hornby heaven begins) and the corridor’s to be painted. Taking your time is for sure the best way, nothing worse than doing something and coming back to it.
Hi Richard, congratulations on getting your new house, and your new job. A long journey ahead to get things the way you'd like them and great to hear that Everard Junction will be back. Looking forward to seeing how you progress the build with the extra space now at your disposal All the best, James
Richard, congratulations! I have been watching your channel from across the pond for a long time, at least since your previous layout. I watch this attic being remodeled and the table work being done. Looking forward to seeing the new layout from the attic remodel to the table work to the modeling. I purchased my house many years ago as a fixer upper, and with your sweat equity, you will appreciate it more so.................OMG, sorry about your job loss. Good luck with your new employment. Hope you receive the overtime and back pay you're owed.
Congratulations on your new home Richard. I’m really looking forward to seeing what you decide to do on the new layout. I started watching your how to videos when I got into the hobby about ten years ago and you have been an inspiration to me and my club mates. Like you I had a change in life a two years ago and bought a 50s house with a similar attic to yours. New floor beams, flooring and insulation in with some plasterboard means it’s nearly baseboard time so doubly interested to see how you progress. So sorry to hear about your job and the financial loss but well done on finding a new job doing what you enjoy. Can I just back what others have said about a Velux type window for light and air. Good luck.
Congratulations! So glad to hear your dreams coming true. I really look forward to your loft renovation and your new railway. Cheers from Ontario - Oh, just heard the last bit - best of luck with the new job, hope everything works for the best.
Congrats on the new house! Very happy for you... Looking forward to seeing the new layout come together when you have time... I do hope that the best scrapyard on YT makes it to the new place! All the very best from Canada...
Congratulations, I dont comment on your videos often but I watched every upload in recent years and I am glad you were able to fullfill your dream. Wish all the best.
Roller coaster and a half! Great news on house, suboptimal on job particularly owed money but with your obvious skills and attention to detail, you will always be in demand and make sure you are not shy in commanding the remuneration you are worth. EJ has been such an inspiration to me although I am no where in that league. Hope that EJ continues to deliver some relaxation and enjoyment as you push forwards with new projects 😁
Congratulations on the house, Richard! My son just bought his first house... with a few projects he is hoping ol' dad will help him do! Sad to see the layout go again with all the brilliant work, but you do have the great attitude of new projects and improve with what you have learned. It is also great to hear that much can be transferred to the new build, when it's time comes. We just want to wish you best of luck and easy transition on those new re-modeling projects on the home... been there, done that... and still more projects on my house remodel. Again... congrats.
Hullo Richard, A grand hip, hip, hooray on your new home purchase. Well done ! I sorta knew that your previous layout was in the attic, but your super effective scenery and most capable backgrounds make it appear to be more substantial than you let on. Your filming techniques are top sort and give me great visions of an expansive main line. I positively love your station platforms. Awesome attention to detail and spot on lighting effects. Keep up the good work. Always barracking for you !
I've enjoyed your videos over the years and I'd like to wish you the best of luck with your new house, new layout and new job. I look forward to seeing your future updates.
So pleased to here you've got your own place - really excited to have followed yoru channel and what the future will be. Congrats and looking foward to the new content !
Congratulations Richard on your house purchase. Like many of us I will miss your expertly produced videos along with the work you do one the layout. Good luck with everything you do in the future together with the house restoration.
All the best in the new house and with the new job. Really enjoyed watching you over the years building the layout. So hope you get back onto your feet soon so we can all enjoy the new build. With those practical skills of yours I am sure it wont take too long despite the slight set back with the old job.
Congratulations Richard on your house purchase, it would be very useful to show starting a new layout from scratch with first creating the space. I'm quite lucky being in a new build that actually allowed me to walk fall height across 3/4 the width of the house. I constructed my boards on the supports for the roof. I look forward to your next video.
Plenty of room for insulation, Summer open the roof and rip it out. Built our home as an owner/builder 20 years ago and no it’s not finished! Accomodation insulation and comfort. Winter my roof cavity is cold and summer its at 45 degree’s C. So it was the shed. Build the attic then start. Even a better access stair case to get there! Good luck!
So, you;ve finally been able to buy your own place. Congratulations, Richard. Well done on that! Let's look forward to the new model, and in the meantime More strength to your arm.
Congratulations on the new house, loved watching the build of Everard junction as it is today. With almost double the space I am really looking forward seeing what you have planned for your new layout build. All the best
Congratulations on the move! I will be looking forward to seeing how you transform your new loft. Having moved into our own home a couple of years ago, work on our loft to get it railway ready has been slow. Our loft is a similar size, so looking forward to the “how to” vids!
I have just (finally) bought a home and what was once a pipe dream of making a model railway might finally become a reality, I'll be looking here for inspiration. Congratulations Richard!
Oh wow... speaking of a roller coaster... Wish you all the best with your endeavors Richard! The channel has been a huge inspiration for me and I can't wait to see what you come up to next! Keep it up!
Hey, is everything all right? I knew I was missing something in my life, and then I realized there hasn't been an update in a while. I miss your stuff man, it's comforting.
Ha seems like a bunch of us have checked back in to see what's going on! Hoping for an update or two before the end of the year to enjoy during our dark autumn evenings. A new renovation project can be all consuming as we all know!
Ha, same here! Randomly popped into my head to check back to see how things were. Must be autumn all right! Hopefully Richard is making progress in his own time, rather than meeting some unforeseen setback... Would be great to know if all is well... but anyway what an amazing endeavour and achievement this channel is, or has been. Good luck Richard and all EJ fans.
Congratulations on the house purchase Richard. Having done it a couple of times it’s a horrible process. My Wife and I love watching your modelling videos and are looking forward to seeing the next evolution of your amazing layout. 👍
Congratulations on the new house! I'm really looking forward to watching an even larger Everard Junction come to life. Can i make a suggestion, based on hours (and hours and hours) of work trying to convert a brick walled "basement" type space into a sealed, non dusty, presentable, layout room. When it comes time to do the brick ends of the room, point the brickwork before you paint. You will save HOURS of work and end up with a much nicer finished wall. Even including the time to point the brickwork, it took 1/2 to 1/3 the total time to go from raw brickwork to a completely sealed wall. Of course i was 3/4's of the way through doing the walls before i worked this out. 😂 I am a big believer in making the layout room look well finished and as professional as possible. A) it makes a space much nicer for you to work and be in. B) Visitors 1st impression of a layout is the room and its access. Positive or negative, the 1st impression will colour how people look at the layout.
Congratulations on the house purchase! You've been a great inspiration in convincing me that I can have a layout in my one bedroom flat. I'd love to see a step by step on how you renovate the loft. Will come in handy if my future plans ever pay off!
Big congratulations on achieving such a wonderful thing. It has been so interesting and enjoyable to follow your layout build so far and now you are about to start on a whole new phase of your life. I will always watch your channel and I send you all good wishes for your future. I am retired and old and it is always heart warming to see a young person succeed. 😊👍
For ANY loft conversion works, get the advice and guidance from a structural engineer! Putting a loadbearing floor in will probably require steelwork to carry the additional joists or extensive timberwork. Be aware you are technically creating a 2nd floor and that brings with it considerable implications with Building Regulations for the rest of the house - interpretation of the conversion will need to be obtained as regards BRegs - any structural work will require approval!
@@garylong7599 Years go I thought of building a layout in my loft. Now I am glad I didn't. It's OK when you are agile but now I would not be so keen to go in there every day. Even after an operation, from which I had to recover from for some time, I was still able to work on my layout
Well aware. A structural engineer has already paid a visit to me. Everything I've done so far has been with the help of professional advice and a copy of building regs.
Best of luck in the new house. A big step and seems a lot of work but will be great progress sooner than you think! Going through finding a new place myself and you are very lucky that you can keep the existing layout and take what and when you need to move something rather than a complete demolition and start again.
Congratulations. Great to see you back. Looking forward to the journey. Try not to get overloaded with work because you will find you will have the chicken and egg issue. You may need to get your lighting below the ceiling sorted before putting a floor over it. Also I want to see how you will get your layout through a loft hatch. As you said don’t rush and plan, plan and plan. Enjoy. All the best.
Congratulations on the move. I enjoy you doing the build from the beginning especially the wiring stage. It's always interesting to see everyone way of wiring.
I'm sorry for your loss Ben. Sending you and your family much love.
Sorry to hear that Ben, glad the videos have been of some help. Wishing you and the family all the best.
Rob
It's all about Richard for me. Lots of people can model, but few can share that knowledge in such a high quality way
Cheers Rob, pleased to hear those words. Its certainly been up & down lately but I had a stroke of luck with the new job. I'm working hard on the house & career right now but in a few months I should be able to do some modelling again.
@@EverardJunctionyeah you good!!!
@@Morganstein-Railroad No offence taken- nice to learn a bit more of the history. Thanks for taking time to let me know
Life moves on. All the best with the new house and then the next iteration of Everard Junction.
I’ve got my fingers crossed for a Christmas update 🤞🏻
Honestly, I am absolutely gutted to see this layout not get to being finished, I’ve been eagerly watching for the last 7 years or so.
But, a massive congratulations to you for buying your own house! I’ve had my own renovation for the last 4 years - it’s been a difficult experience, but one that I wouldn’t have wanted to go without all the same. So good luck to you, and I’m very excited to see what comes with your next layout! 😊
I got the impression that the layout is very close to finished...and that's an odd situation for anyone.
A couple of velux windows is on the wish list
@@EverardJunction Richard I would seriously recommend the projection type about 140wide x 98high although expensive and heavy to install, my place was improved beyond belief when fitted.
You can have flyscreens fitted too, a must when fine weather arrives.
Greetings from Brittany ! Bob
Congratulations! I hope you do document the renovations, I think they would be interesting to follow.
Really looking forward to seeing the house coming along and the birth of the next railway :)
I had trouble convincing my spouse that the "living area" was a good, thick roof to protect my basement layout!
Good luck with your new home and work Richard, looking forward to your videos of renovation and the new model railway.
Good luck with your new layout, always an exciting moment when you get started. I'll post more videos as & when I have news. Cheers
Congrats Richard, love to see the reno of the new house especially the planning and production of the new railway space, love to be part of it!
End of an era, well done it’s been a pleasure watching this build.
All the best,
Congratulations Richard, love you detailed model work and look forward to the new house project. Good luck.
How exciting - for you and us! Personally I would be interested in following all your renovations or as many as you can or want to share. Good luck with it all x
Congratulations with your new home Richard. Looking forward to your future layout project. Cheers Jasper
Wishing you well with your new house Richard, and look foerward to the next stage of the journey of your model railway.
Congratulations Richard, I wish you all the fun doing the renovations as you have building the layout that you have now.
Looking foward to see more videos
Congratulations Richard. A dream come true I'm sure and all the best with your new home and layout.
Congratulations on the new house. Waitig to see more about the reconstruction of the attic and the moving of Your railway project.
Congrats on the new place, nothing like a blank canvas to get the creative juices flowing. Congrats from Detroit! Sorry to hear about the job situation…
Congratulations Richard. I'm looking to buy in the next year or so and your future videos will help when I get my layout up and running.
Well done Richard, lots of work to be completed before Everard Junction is up and running. Looking forward to all the videos of your build. Take Care Mike HO from Australia.
Best of luck with the new house Richard.
Congratulations, can’t wait to see what the next chapter brings and hopefully farce insurance will live on
Congratulations on your new home - and commiserations on the job front. I am sure that both will work out well for you. I look forward to seeing your new layout - and thanks for the brilliant content so far!
Congratulations Richard..!🎉 as a builder you’re in for a few challenging months. However, that means a NEW layout, which is great news.
Good luck with the new home Richard i'm looking forward to going on the new layout journey with you and fellow subscribers.
Hope you are well Richard would love to see an update soon
Regards
David
This is indeed extremely generous! It’s good to see humanity at its finest. I’m sure Richard will at least get in touch. Can’t beat the “ barter “ system!”
What a lovely offer
Please keep us updated on everything,

Looking forward to seeing how you progress the build with the extra space now at your disposal
All the best, James
Richard, congratulations! I have been watching your channel from across the pond for a long time, at least since your previous layout. I watch this attic being remodeled and the table work being done. Looking forward to seeing the new layout from the attic remodel to the table work to the modeling. I purchased my house many years ago as a fixer upper, and with your sweat equity, you will appreciate it more so.................OMG, sorry about your job loss. Good luck with your new employment. Hope you receive the overtime and back pay you're owed.
Congratulations with the new house and good luck with the new job. Look forward to seeing more from you again when time allows.
Strangely I’ve just done the same as you and searched the channel as not seen anything for ages.
I, too, was just wondering what I was missing before realizing it's been a minute since I've seen activity here.
I came here to ask the same!
I am a big believer in making the layout room look well finished and as professional as possible.
It will end up,as non habitable space unless you install a staircase
@@garylong7599 Years go I thought of building a layout in my loft. Now I am glad I didn't. It's OK when you are agile but now I would not be so keen to go in there every day. Even after an operation, from which I had to recover from for some time, I was still able to work on my layout
Well aware. A structural engineer has already paid a visit to me. Everything I've done so far has been with the help of professional advice and a copy of building regs.
I'd love to see renovation videos, as well. You've got a gift for explaining things so general renovation videoes would be interesting.
EverardJunction is growing and looking great. I am looking forward to new changes. Keep up the great work
Best of luck in the new house. A big step and seems a lot of work but will be great progress sooner than you think! Going through finding a new place myself and you are very lucky that you can keep the existing layout and take what and when you need to move something rather than a complete demolition and start again.
Best wishes for you in your new home. We are all looking forward to your future Everard Junction.
Well done on the house, Richard. We will be here when you post new content. You can’t hurry quality! Best of luck with your upcoming move!
Congratulations on the move. I enjoy you doing the build from the beginning especially the wiring stage. It's always interesting to see everyone way of wiring.
