Music Teacher Reacts: Ne Obliviscaris - And Plague Flowers the Kaleidoscope live
WARNING
There are a couple of vocal peaks in this from my microphone. Apologies. I'm still learning how to work out clipping. It also shows just how into the band I was haha.
What a name, what a band what a song! There are so many moving elements to this wonderous opus that I am left just.... well, drooling on my keyboard. Thank you Australia for giving us yet another crazy killer awesome and majestical group of musicians.

One of my favourite performances on this channel. Thank you a million times over for helping me find this band!
Glad you feel this way. Checking out the reaction now :D. On a side note... I think this song in particular is used as a study at the Sydney Conservatory.
Dan Presland (drummer) do great job. You can see this on his drum cam to this song. Whole band is very talented. For me gitar sound like violin. Great reaction. Try Wintersun - Time.
Great band! Part of the Aus metal scene...we are rocking at the moment, this is pretty progressive considering the lead singer doesn't like progressive metal!! :D Some other bands from Aus for you, Make them Suffer, Thy Art is Murder, Parkway Drive, Northlane, Toehider (alhough it is just 1 person!), Architects are some of the more popular ones.
I was really certain you would like these guys they are amazing.
Best reaction i've seen to this band. Would love love love to see more. Wish there were more good live performances. Recommend "Forget Not", "Of Petrichor Weaves Black Noise" and plenty more after that.
NeO are seriously one of a kind. Their stuff is so unbelievably complex musically and technically, that students at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music studied this very song.
Be'lakor is another incredible Australian metal band that you might like to check out.
Dear Sr, Love them! I remember first time I listen to The Frail Tide. I was like "Where were you all my life?" hahahaha
I saw belakor and neo obliv about 15 yrs ago at the tote in Melbourne. Was amazing then, is still amazing now.
Blood Duster bros haha
I swear I'm addicted to watching people hear NeO for the first time.
I'm not sure how they do it all so well.
The songwriting, the sheer musical skill they all possess, their incredible sound as a whole, and how they miraculously make it all sound good live too.
Their studio sound is top-notch, but they manage to get so close to that when playing live.
The drummer is Dan Presland, he does look like he's a little tight when playing, but oddly I think he looks more tense in the groovy sections than he does during the 5-min long double bass blast sections.
I'm a drummer and with my hands I can barely keep up with what his feet are doing, and I can't sustain it for more than a minute or so. He's an absolute machine and I fucking love it
Me too, as of an hour ago lmao
can't agree more
I’ve been a fan of NeO for about 5-6 years now, helps that I’m Australian. I’ve been to a few shows of theirs and I have to let you know it’s not just a marketing scheme to get people to the merch table, Tim, the violinist is actually behind the table selling their merchandise, or has been every time I’ve been. Really great guys all of them, even Xen, our vampire overlord. They sound unbelievable live and always put in 100% to every show.
Please remember to check out the Japanese band I recommend Dir En Grey. Thank you 😊
Australia has some killer metal bands. You should check out Be'Lakor and Caligula's Horse
Polaris, Dealer, Parkway Drive. Australia is killing it man.
Elysian
Twelve foot ninja 😊
This has to be one of the best reaction videos I've ever seen. Your energy is awesome, and your knowledge is appreciated!
What An amazing thing to say. Thank you, David!
@@TempleMusicAcademy Absolutely! You deserve to hear that. Just finished the video, and it was fantastic. Thanks for making my night :)
I think you will appreciate this one for a multitude of reasons. Wintersun - Sons of winter and stars - Live rehearsal @ Sonic Pump Studios
Agreed... Wintersun even toured with Ne Obliviscaris! 😎🤘🏼👌🏼
Hell yeah, Wintersun is a gem
ruclips.net/video/QyPJS9MG6-w/видео.html
I love that this was the opening band and 2 others had to follow this
I guess it is now time for Wintersun. Speaking of time check out their song Sons of Winter and Stars live in the Sonic Pump Studios from the album Time I
Agreed! 🤘🏼
why no one ever recommend Starchild ? Or any song of the fisrt album
@@Jay-zm9ns Because the live rehearsal videos they do for Time I is amazing to watch.
Wintersun-sons of winter and stars is a must. Im sure you are going to love it. Its a masterpiece.
Seconding this. He will absolutely love this song.
Agreed 🤘🏼🇫🇮
Live at sonic hump studios
ruclips.net/video/QyPJS9MG6-w/видео.html
If you like this you'd love Opeth - Reverie/Harlequin Forest (the live version at the Royal Albert Hall)
Looks like you're someone with an great taste in music ^^
First time tuning into this channel, but stayed for the full reaction! One of my top 5 albums of all time. Just a bunch of dudes putting on a musical masterclass in a gorgeous way!
I absolutely love this reaction.
I'm really happy you checked this band out they are amazing. This song is actually studied at the sydney conservatorium of music. Some more great tracks by them are Intra Venus, Forget Not, and Of Petrichor Weaves Black Noise
Loved this, absolutely excellent reaction.
Please react to their 23 and a half minute masterpiece, "PAINTERS OF THE TEMPEST" it will literally blow you away.
Aaaah Ne Obliviscaris is such a great band! I saw them live about a year ago, fantastic show.
If you're up to it, maybe some Igorrr next? Ieud is their "easy start song", so to speak. I requested them earlier, their new album is addictive. If you can open your mind to it.
If you want another absolutely phenomenal band, listen to Be'lakor. Any song you pick will be a masterpiece, live or studio.
YEP, YOU GOT A NEW SUB
Caligula's Horse is another excellent Aussie band! I would suggest Atlas 😁
And yes, Deliverance's outro is quite amazing.
Dude, PLEASE react to my band Darker By Design. We've opened up for Ne Obliviscaris 3 times. Twice in Austin, TX and once in San Antonio, TX. We actually released a track several months ago with their heavy vocalist as a feature. No, we're not a major band but like Ne Obliviscaris, we also incorporated a classical instrument into our music which is why the local promoters hand picked us to open for these guys. We have a cello player instead of a violinist, but the cello is pretty much a lead instrument in our sound. Please check us out even if you don't do a reaction. Check out the track featuring Ne O's vocalist. Just look up: Darker By Design - Between The Dead and Dying
I doubt you will be disappointed. As I said, we're not a big band, but we have a very big sound.
Just checked you out. Instant subbed. Great tunes. Congratulations
I loved the screamer vs the soaring vocals of his partner. That juxtaposition kicks this band up a notch from others. The addition of the violin adds another unique feture that sets them apart. Outstanding musicianship all around. Great!!
I really enjoy watching someone genuinely interested in opening their minds and enjoying beautiful music, regardless of the genre! Excellent work my friend (and the whole team that makes this happen).
Greetings from a new suscriber from Mexico!
Australia also gives us one of the best metalcore/deathcore and hardcore punk scene too right now.
Thats unreal! Maybe get my band down there one day!
Great channel! I'm glad I found you.
List of Australian bands true music appreciators should hear:
Caligula's Horse
Plini
Ne Obliviscaris
Karnivool
Closure In Moscow
Hemina
Twelve Foot Ninja
......
I'm not sure if this has been mentioned before, but this song was put into the curriculum at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music due to the way it is written
I had forgotten about them ! Thanks for the reminder !
That's ironic given the name of the band 😄😄😄
If you like Prog, check out Ayreon -The Day That the World Breaks Down. It features 11 (yes eleven) main vocalists.
I agree Dan Presland is a sick sick talented drummer but he does come off as stiff since he's so technical. Seems less so nowadays tho. Maybe it's the tattoos lol
Check out Beyond Creation. Earthbound Evolution or Omnipresent Perception, one of the few metal bands with Fretless Bass
Hi. Thanks a lot for this reaction and very interesting analysis. I agree with you, the sound guy make a great work. A good live show needs a good band AND a good team behind the stage. Another suggestion : Skálmöld & Sinfóníuhljómsveit Íslands - Kvaðning. There's plexi panel all over on stage :)
Back in the day? Opeth's Damnation/Deliverance dual album was 2001, baby. They'd already been active for around as long as Meshuggah. Great shit. Last 2 minutes are iconic for rhythmic expression and drum chops. But they don't have shit on NO. Iconic. The new wave has gone on. All hail the new overlords. The king is dead. All hail the king.
You should react to Belakor, The Smoke of Many Fires or Countless Skies as well. Like NeO they are both from my home, Melbourne Australia.
Really enjoyed your review and insights. Like a few of the other commentors Be'lakor is another Aussie band to review. Try The Smoke of Many Fires
My man, if you want some sick gutterals, you should check out Amorphis. "The Bee." Tomi Jutsen is one of the best!
Agreed 🤘🏼🙄
Yes, def agree! And Eluveitie as well!
Merwenna amen to Eluveitie. King and Rebirth are the most common reaction songs, but I’d love to see someone react first to something like Nil or Quoth the Raven
I heard them once on their european tour, and they sounded fantastic live. Like, these medium/small venues never sound this good. I don't know who did the mix for the audience, the live mix was stellar that night.
Been hoping for this, this is an awesome band which, because the Aussie music scene is generally poorly developed has not received due recognition. Try Be'Lakor, another supremely excellent Australian band.
Caligula's horse too
I've been a Patron of them for years. If any band deserves it, it's them.
Their music is studied at the Sydney music academy
You need to react to Painters of the Tempest - Part II Live
Ah, this video was what drew me into NO in the first place.
If you fancy some of the oriental and acoustic elements in metal, i'd highly suggest checking out acoustic version of Twelve Foot Ninja's "Kingdom"
P.S. They are Aussies as well
What's good?
Oh thats right, you.
Thanks for sharing Clan Campbell with the world.
edit: You were the first to get the middle eastern reference in his opening spotlight.
From the final pict to the final highlander our clan was forced to fight impossible enemies, and in the dark age, we crusaded with the danes, as slaves.
Life is a kaleiodoscope and plague and war colors ours.
Tenchu Wrath of Heaven makes me shoot beeteedubs, superlative taste.
you should check out a band called Orbit Culture, either See Through Me or The Shadowing.
You need to learn to forget not
Probably one of my favourite songs
FINALLY SOMEONE RELATES ON TENCHU!!!
They are amazing.
Heard them for the first time about a year ago and was love at first listen 😁
Love your vídeos dude.
Can you do one about Mike Patton?
Yes, you can see by my avatar photo that i love him 😆
Cheers from Portugal.
Listen to Forget not and Icicles fall. I'm completely new to this band too. I can't believe I have missed them.
Need some Opeth here.
The syncopated rhythm in the middle of the song reminds me of "Future Breed Machine" by Meshuggah, which in turn reminds me of "One" by Metallica.
About bloody time you checked this band out
Cheers for doing the live version.
Check out Returning to the Source by Persefone!
tenchu yes!
You MUST see these guys live. This video is live, and this band sound just like this live. My wife had no interest in this band. Then we went to see them live. She immediately became a fan. Go see them live
you really should check out painters of the tempest part II from NeO, really great composition of music as well!
This. God. Damn. Band. Is. AMAZING! Aren't they?
Please react to Forget Not.
Ne Obliviscaris - Forget Not.
There are not enough reactions of Forget Not... Aw man, im know im imposing and thats really immature.
But Forget Not.... Really... Forget Not..... Man...
fuck yes the AUSTRALIAN Opeth
Also, I may be wrong... but i believe the guitar player was hammering.
You can't react to Ne Obliviscaris without reacting to Persefone, Check out their song, Living waves
Prison Skin is solid.
Came here to recommend that exact song!
Your reaction on this band is exactly like mine. So great. The whole mood of the song is beautiful and the musicians are masters. And that staccato riff in the middle. That's what dreams are made of... check out their new song Intra Venus. It's just as good,
Time for Wintersun - Sons of Winter and Stars live rehearsal at Sonic Pump studio. It's epic and dope! Please and peace 🙏🏼😎✌🏼
ruclips.net/video/QyPJS9MG6-w/видео.html
"Dissonant Tone"
Meshuggah - Dancers to a Discordant System
Well man welcome to one of the nicest bands on the planet too. You show an rather old vid , but the best in quality, As we speak they have a new bass player (Martino Garratoni) . Look for him on yt , there are al lot vids where he play's the NeO parts. The drummer quits his (well payed) job to go for his drum-dream . I think he is a hero too ! He is not stiff I can assure you ... ;- ) .
Temple music academy this was the last song in a hour and half set. Just FYI
BRCC is a great company, and they're friggin' hilarious! Plus, their coffee is excellent to boot!
really interesting analysis of the live audio production
Since you appreciate well written music, please react to:
Pain of Salvation - Iter Impius + Martius Nauticus II (Live)
Thank You Scientist - Anchor (Live)
Opeth - The Drapery Falls (Live at Shepherd's Bush Empire)
Be'lakor - Remnants
Carach Angren - Lingering in an Imprint Haunting
You won't regret it. Especially the last three, since you said you havent react much to grunts in your channel, even tho you mentioned you already know of Opeth. and as for more Prog stuff, the first three in that list. Im pretty sure youll enjoy it.
PS: Belakor is from Australia too, and as Australians they are, they kick ass too.
Mostrar menos
I wanna see a gopro on the guitars!
Check out Toehider, they/he is also from Australia.
Another Aussie group you should try is " 12 Foot Ninja " and either the videos for " Coming For You " or " One Hand Killing " . This group has great technical chops and a sense of humor too.
I think you'd really like the live drum play through of this song by NeO's Dan Presland. It's incredible
You should listen to the album version. You get all the notes and crunch.
Another Australian band no one else in this comment section will mention is called Virgin Black. I would greatly appreciate seeing someone react to them, as I’ve never seen someone do so on RUclips ever.
And if I were to recommend a song for them, it would be Our Wings Are Burning. But if you do, make it the album version as the entire ending gets cut in the music video for the sake of brevity.
Awesome video!
I don't know if you've listened to Thank You Scientist, but I would love seeing your take on them.
If you almost let an f bomb fly here, don’t do a video for urn part 2 as embers dance in our eyes.
hell yeah, please
Also real good guttural vocals has Shadow of intent. He is insanely deep.
Tenchu reference 💙
I DO NOT MIND THE FUCKING F-BOMB
You want really good metal+violin (and accordion)? Turisas. I had the absolute pleasure of seeing them with Eluveitie, Tyr, and Enisferum way back in 2008 on the Pagan Fest tour. They DO NOT disappoint. Someone else in the comments mentioned Amorphis for good growls. I agree, but the earlier stuff (1992-2000, Tuonela is a fucking masterpiece) plus the entire Skyforger and the Magic and Mayhem album where they update all their old songs with fresh vocals and instruments is amazing and are must listens. So good.
If syncopated parts is something you dig there's one song you MUST hear.
Gojira - Rememberance. That ending.
Love your channel. Like your eloquence. Subbed. Satan. And pink unicorns. \m/
Spiritbox - Courtney has amazing vocals. Eluveitie is a great folk metal band; as a music teacher you should check out their songs.... they have a hurdy gurdy and sometimes sing in ancient Gaulic.
ruclips.net/video/AYgg8ORkXEU/видео.html
might i recommend In Vain - Floating on the Murmuring Tide
10:36
"vocal fry"
n o
that is not vocal fry
a common misconseption regarding fry screams is that they are derived from vocal fry - your true vocal folds are too fragile to scream with, and vocal fry screams WILL hurt you sooner or later, plus don't have much power
what is happening here is probably arytenoid fry instead
Wouldn't say the violin melodies were middle-eastern, sounds way more greek or perhaps spanish to me.
Check out Leprous - Slave
try Arch Enemy for growls :)
Valeriu Dudau he has reacted to something better already,, Your Highness Tatiana Shmayliuk and Jinjer.. but I guess he might react to AE
@@cooltechnician - everyone have the right to have an opinion...
Here's more australia: Toehider!
It's time for Wintersun-Sons Of Winter And Stars
ruclips.net/video/QyPJS9MG6-w/видео.html
Power wolf- Demons are a girl best friend!!
Arpeggios, see: Yngwie Malmsteen or Per Nilsson of Scar Symmetry :D
if you think this song was good, forget not by them will blow your mind
I literally almost did NOT subscribe 🤔 Until you mentioned your opinion on Travis Ryan 👌 I was then totally convinced that I will surely respect your opinion JUST based on this 👌
Typically you hear that Will Ramos is the best in that style 🙄 I was praying you wouldn't say the same THEN dropped Travis which I always get combative 😂about insisting he is the best period 👌 One of the originators...
You definitely 🙏🏻 should consider doing a review on a band called ULCERATE 🙏🏻
I warn you I will literally include that suggestion in every comment I made 😂
You will eventually surrender 🤘
9:50 AHAHAHA!!!
Another great band from down under: King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard. You wont regret it.
Why do most bands with extreme vocals choose logos that look like they come from the same inbred font family? This one clearly isn't as extreme (hah!) as many, but I assumed there would be screaming based on it. Regardless, thank you, I always learn something from your videos.
excellent band, excellent song, great reaction. I love the little tidbits of knowledge you throw into your videos too. I'd like to see a reaction to Lord of the Lost - Raining Stars ruclips.net/video/ZF_4ES3Gc8I/видео.html and Vorna - Yksin ruclips.net/video/dfWZRjIzG8A/видео.html
