My favorite line in the entire review, where Lisa is describing the 2nd USB-C port's' placement when in portrait mode: "...but the other one is on the bottom, so you actually can't access it, which is ergonomically...not delightful." I love Lisa reviews. :) (And of course, the shirt is awesome.)
I'm so glad you made this video. So many other reviewers skip over the faults because it's such a neat device. They made me want to buy it, but this one thankfully talked me into saving my money. It's not powerful enough for what I need.
No there isn't. It isn't a groundbreaking item. Tablets and PCs are smaller and thinner, more powerful and have longer lasting batteries. V2 can't really improve much. It would have to be a folding tablet with more power. That's really what this is.. tablet and makes tablets heavier, bigger and thicker. It is cool....now buy it.
Let's think about the improvements V2 would benefit from: * Less Glare. It's a "take anywhere" kind of device, so it should work anywhere. * Better port placement and more ports (probably least likely to happen, unfortunately). * User-expandable storage. At the very least a microSD slot, but preferably also the option to swap out the SSD. * A 16 GB RAM option. Too many browser tabs, too little RAM right now. * The pen sliding into the device (think Samsung S-Pen, just bigger). * Kickstand with adjustable angle. Not hard to engineer. The current solution very much prioritizes style over function. * More efficient CPU / better battery life. This is never going to be a performance monster, so a faster CPU isn't really necessary. * More competitive pricing. This fills the same niche as a Surface, but is far more expensive. It'll always be more expensive, but the price still has to go down if they ever want to shift substantial numbers of it. This means they need to get rid of the carbon fiber and titanium nonsense and achieve the same rigidity with more affordable materials.
It's really cool as a proof of concept, but with the weak hardware and the pen issues, it doesn't really seem suitable for anything more intense than office productivity type work and media consumption, and it's pretty darn expensive, weak, and heavy just to get a slightly more convenient form factor and a slightly larger screen than a Surface or an iPad. Seems neat enough to show that this may be a popular type of device in the future, but not there yet for mass consumption. Thanks for the review, Lisa!
Love it Looks like the absolute must for the road warrior . $2700 shouldn't be too much if it's for business ,too bad it's a slow version ,that would rule it out for me. Great video .Thanks for your reviews .
An interesting device for sure, but I think it has a way to go yet.... I think it has a lot of potential. Thanks for the review, I enjoyed it. Also, cool shirt! You have the most wicked tee shirt collection!
As someone who had the Thinkpad X31 from 2003, I understand that no one uses a pointing stick, but honestly a pointing stick would be the best mouse implementation for a keyboard that small instead of a tiny trackpad
This is the best thing about Lenovo ...they were out of the race and looked like for some time they gave up but proved never and back with a bang and brought very good products to India and world as well
This ThinkPad may be used by some people, it's a good start, lots of room for improvement. Microsoft is weak in tablet UI, I had to cringe when Lisa stated, "Lenovo had to roll their own" . Another great review, thank you!
With those specs, this feels more like a showcase of what they could make in the future, but that’s not a bad thing at all. In fact, if this had higher profile specs, i would rush out and get it right now. It feels like a heads-up to look forward to the future of portable performance. Maybe in two to three years, we could get a tigar lake or amd refresh. One that doesn’t burst into flames. Ideal.
Before going for a Ipad pro I had to check this device. Thank you Lisa for helping me taking this one of my list ;-) Good and precise information just like I want it.
It reminded me of IBM Transnote from early 2000. It is nice that Lenovo continues the tradition of innovative devices, I wish only they would stick to them instead of ditching after a couple years of production.
New to your channel. Noob to tech and gadgets and I fell inlove with this x1 fold when I saw it. Just so damn cute and awesome. Ofc I had to watch reviews about it, and yours honestly is the best and most objective and most detailed review out there. I do digital art so I was trying to see if this was good for it (as if i can afford it). Yours is the only video where I understood the limits of this device. Definitely not good for multitasking with photoshop and Definitely not for editing videos. Shame, but atleast I'm glad I know better. Who knows tho, maybe the next iterations of this device and the likes will be capable of multitasking demanding programs. Great video!!!
Yeah I feel like this thing is really just held back by the CPU. If I was Lenovo I would have went with an arm CPU would have let them get a little more power out of the device in my opinion and windows has gotten significantly better on arm.
I won't lie: I like this thing. As a completely new form factor, I'd have preferred pricing that encourages early adoption from enthusiasts - something in the $1000 range. As it is, with those specs and that price...I'll wait 5 years and pick it up for bargain prices. Throw in a Linux distro into that, and voila cheap Linux convertible.
Great review as usual. I've been on the lookout for this thing. In the end it makes compromises that I didn't expect it to. Interesting device - and I'm sure there's a small market for it. It's just not as compelling as I expected it to be for my uses.
Closing in on my dream from 10 years ago; a foldable tablet pc that has a Wacom pen and is made for creatives....giving us an unfolded 22" screen in a 11" folded form factor!!!!
It seems like really great tech, but certainly an early adopter model. Hopefully the idea will take off and better more price accessible models will come down the line. But for the price, there just seems to be much better alternatives available.
Above all else, the form factor of this thing screams future. IMO there will be a huge market for this large-display convert to laptop form factor. Give this thing maybe 2 or 3 generations and it will be absolutely worth the $3K pricetag. As is though, it's not much more than a proof of concept niche product.
Since it's Lenovo's first foldable, it'll probably be a "collector's" item in 10 years. There might be a short time 3-5 years from now this is like $400-$500 on the used market, but my guess is that will be the cheapest it'll get.
Lisa, I hope you do a review of the new Lenovo X1 Nano! I am thinking of getting the touch version. Your reviews are great, one of the reason I got my gen1 X1 Yoga years ago
If you haven't got it, you don't know what you're missing. If you have it and use it, you will see how it makes everything else so cumbersome. Obviously it is not a Thinkpad P1 with Intel Xeon processor and 64GB RAM - but that's not the point. It is just so darned convenient!
Im very excited by the idea, but I don’t think it’s worth switching now. I hope it does well enough to have a v3 or v4 for when I’ll be needing a new laptop anyway.
Hello Ms Lisa 😻🌹 have you taken apart.. well, opened, that is.. a lenovo thinkcenter (the small mini pc) and noticed a small button on the front lower corner? Thank you 🌹❤🤓
Love the Reviews here, Lisa is always so to the point! I had one question, I got this machine, and the windows hello camera doesn't seem to work.. Anyone know what's going on there.
It's a digital notebook at this time. I would be an early adopter but the price is a little too high. BTW ... the 5g version is coming in 2021 according to the site.
Was thinking the same. An earlier version of Lenovo's custom gestures and the like for the new form factor was at least more involved (I saw a video about the pre-release product on Windows Central).
👀 Interesting product and excellent review. Not a product for me but I appreciate the technology. Thanks for covering this device. Blessings on your day.
is the monitor similar to the galaxy z flip and galaxy z fold? Which means any hard objects can create scratch on the screen and it is extremely sticky?
That trackpad on that accessory is tiny though and you're not gonna wanna reach and touch the display if it's standing cause you might drop it. Any third party options?
I'm not a fan of the aspect ratio. If it instead had 3:2 aspect ratio in tablet mode, then it would have dual 4:3 portrait screens in book mode (perfect for book reading) and a 4:3 landscape screen in laptop mode which is better for productivity anyway. I would love a tablet with a 18" screen, folded into a 13" screen laptop size. It would have to be thinner, of course, to not to be too bulky and heavy. Having a large portable oled screen would be great, and it would fit a standard size Thinkpad keyboard bluetooth, including Trackpoint of course.
I don't think this technology is quite there yet and for my budget I need the price to come down just a little more. However this has a ton of potential. In a couple of years this technology will be much more what I think the consumer would purchase. Specs will be better and design will improve over time as well. Best of all the price will come down eventually.
lisa if im not mistaken you do some drawing on the side, and being able to have your hands on many tablets and 2-1 laptops this year what would be your recommendation for enthusiasts artists seeking for laptop that wont break a sweat in say photoshop and the likes? below 1600 usd
So kind of classic Lenovo when it comes to a first gen product -- you get something kind of cool and kind of futuristic, but clunky with odd choices (I'm thinking about the X300/301 and the Lenovo Helix).
“ You just want to love it anyway because it’s so cool.” Lisa “gets” it and that goes a long way to making her reviews of real value over the years.
Lisa does the absolute BEST ThinkPad reviews
midnight here in London but this just made my day
Really ? What did you learn from this video ?
@@Theworldisforent it absolutely is! I live in bloody London
Definitely not buying this, however, this has a lot of really cool ideas that I’m excited about coming in the next few years!

Can't wait for Techmoan to review this 20 years from now.
Lisa’s “Ergonomically not desirable” is the best thing I’ve heard which translates as “that’s a really stupid place to put a USB port”
“Ergonomically, not delightful” is the accurate and so much more delightful quote.
But real talk, I do not understand how they botched the placement that badly. It doesn't have a lot of IO to begin with so that just hurts for $3,000
@@Spearra they have to find a way to place them due to it fold. if it just a normal non fold one. then it super easy
You've been one of my favorite reviewers for years! Thanks, Lisa!!

Same. I don't think there's any competition
I just found this channel, and its amazing how much tech information is packed in a 13min video.
V2 of this is going to be a buy. Solid review Lisa!
With this attitude there won't be a V2 ;)

I am just imagining how great of a tech machine this would be if its guts were something similar to the M1 chips from Apple.

What are the advantages of having a fold? To fit in your case?
It is selling brand new for 1.1K USD in my area, given that price point, is it a good deal?
I love your vids, Lisa!
Those bezels though. . .
Once they refine the design a bit and can have better specs inside I'm definitely in.

I understand this thing is not about specs or performance but is its form factor worth the try? I dunno.
How do you determine the panel type/model? What software do you use?
Very promising (paper) notepad replacement. Hopefully the pen performance improves, specifically in the art department.
How does a design manage to be so innovative and so dated at the same time?
Simple. This specific laptop doesn't solve anything AKA it doesn't have a purpose.
Z Fold 2 actually solves a problem. It has a purpose.
I believe it took a lot of time for the production to start and fix all problems due to the innovative form factor so they still have very old specs
