I couldn't help but think about how often people ask, "why don't other people help folks out?" Well this shows that they do. They help out a LOT. But they don't always have the right gear, (Good Yankum ropes are NOT cheap), or they don't get there before someone is in SERIOUS trouble. If you don't know what you are doing, crap can go South QUICK! People get seriously hurt doing this stuff. If you are not SURE then best leave it to a pro. Thank God for Matt and his crew. dodge 2500 megacab sxt curb weight 6700lb
    trailer approximately 500lb
    polaris jetski x2 approximately 1000lb
    morrvair at 5500lbs
morrvair was trying to pull combined 8200lbs sunk to the frame.
    the math:
8200lbs sunk to the frame x mire factor 3 =24,600lb resistance
apex 12000lb winch with 3/8 freedom winch line with a working load limit of 15,000lb on the line itself.
2:1 mechanical advantage shown in the video brings the fall line force to 13,530lb which is higher than the capacity of the winch and close to the working load limit (breaking the line)
3:1 mechanical advantage would have brought the fall line force to 9840lb which the morrvair attached to an anchor (truck) would have easily and safely pulled the dodge.
in order for the morrvair to pull the dodge out without additional help or anchor you would need a 8:1 mechanical advantage which i don't think matt has enough tackles and line for compound winching techniques. though most situations wouldn't need such techniques in these light vehicle recoveries. mainly used for heavier equipment such as military vehicles and construction equipment
I do wish matt would learn the math on winch calculations to know when his rigging is under the breaking load instead of "gut feeling". he was very close to breaking that line and if that dodge weighed 500lb more than curb weight he would have snapped that line.
the owners of the dodge didn't help by leaving the trailer hooked up. if you unhook the trailer the resistance the morrvair would have to pull would only be 20,100lb
at 20,100lb he could easily pull with that 2:1 ratio with a fall line force of 11,055lb. safely under the winch and line limits. he would just need to anchor the morrvair with a truck.
With enough mechanical advantage and line you can move anything.

That f350 buried in the mud makes a good case for carrying a hilift and wheelmate attachment. I sunk my truck like that a few years ago and with a few 2x8 scraps and a big piece of plywood was able to lift each wheel, backfill the hole and set a board under it, then drove it out once all four wheels were up on top. Not fast, but not too slow, took about an hour. I added the wheelmate to the hilift kit after that. Underrated tool when used practically.

If I got stuck on a rock like that truck, I think I would use the jack and see if I could lift the truck enough to move the rock myself. Am I weird?

    • @Psyco913
      @Psyco913 2 года назад +2

No, that's basically what Matt did with the tools he had. To do it with a Jack you would need a jack that can lift it high enough and you need a wide base so you don't just bury your jack in the sand.

@@dr.floridaman4805 I was saying that a jack is a perfectly good way to do it if you make sure your jack works on your vehicle and can handle the terrain you are on.
I don't think I would rely on finding a flat rock though. If you're going to bring a hi lift at least bring a board or something to place it on. Also, a hi lift only works if you have lift points around the perimeter of your vehicle to lift from. The majority of the vehicles in Matt's videos don't.
