  • Video from my first visit to the Station Inn in Cresson, PA. If you like main line trains and lots of them, I highly recommend a stay. The group I was with worked the west slope as photo locations are much more accessible. This was Conrail at its best, just a year before the split, when blue was everywhere, and Amtrak still ran the Broadway Limited.

Great stuff, took me almost 10 years to find this! My favorite thing about footage in Appalachia, aside from scenery, is the classic sound of that high-throttle whining from the EMDs

Wonderful time of year, scenery -wise - to shoot trains. Gorgeous scenery up that way. It's striking to watch those trains splice that wooded area.
About every type of freight train here, and, mostly hood units, but wide cabs really making their presence known at this point. I loved those last GE hood units - C40-8s, C9-44s, and Conrail's staple SD40-2s. Seems like GEs were prominent in the New England states - C30-7s, B30-7s, based on Conrail vids from that area. Great editing on this...never a dull moment.

Great footage from the "Quality" era. The frame trains were among my favorite.

All that clean blue paint; too cool. And almost no graffiti.

Conrail was the best rail road in the Mid Atlantic states ( Reading, Pennsy, LV,, NYC ,, CNJ ) and now we get get stuck with NS

That's how we felt about Conrail in the late 70's, like we were robbed of all the cool lines and stuck with this faceless big blue THING! It took a few years for Conrail to grow on many railfans, but now there are 2 generations that grew up only knowing Big Blue and view it with nostalgia.

What's even funnier is that CR 6445 actually went to NS as their 3379. NS eventually sold off the 3379 to Genessee & Wyoming.

Just for the record, the "Broadway Limited" was renamed "The Three Rivers" by that time.
