Just as with the SAD, Keto is fast becoming filled with junk food versions of the foods filled with grains, sugars, and chemicals that we should not eat. Manufacturers are jumping on the Keto bandwagon to make a buck. Sadly, the healthiest, most sustainable way to live the Ketogenic lifestyle (IMHO) is to eat real whole foods, prepare them ourselves, and choose eating out meals very, very wisely. It is a lifestyle change in foods we eat and how we eat. I have made the mistakes too, but for me eating now is more about the quality of life and health than a quick "taste fix'. Thank you ladies for sharing your knowledge and experience with us all. Well done!!

I'm with you. I'm 63 and lost 65 pounds on keto this year. Before menopause, I could eat less/exercise more to stay thin. After menopause, I tried reducing carbs, but it wasn't enough. Going Keto + fasting is the only thing that worked. I look at it as I had my fun with carbs over the years. Now I get to have fun with Keto.

Tip from me; MAKE A LIST of what ails you. Migraines, creeky knees, hip, skin. Everything you can possibly think of. Once you start going keto/carnivore, you may later forget all the problems you started with because you'll eventually feel really GOOD.

WHAT I LEARNED: Food/carb addiction is real. Every single diet can result in successful weight loss...but, if you don’t address and resolve what’s going on mentally, spiritually & emotionally at the same time you change your diet, every single diet will fail-even KETO (although KETO is now my preferred lifestyle). It’s less about what you eat...and more about WHY you overeat.

Tonight I gave my dinner roll to another family member and didn't even care.

I can attest to how hard it becomes to lose weight, the further you drift away from unprocessed keto foods. When I first started, I ate meat, veggies, eggs, nuts, berries, coffee, tea, water, cheese, and fat sources. I was losing 10 pounds a week. I introduced diet sodas, keto desserts, keto bread and other things and it became a gateway back to everything else because the cravings I had when I wasn't home where I could eat the right way. It's best to just kick the sweet cravings all together.

I love your videos and think this one was so honest and helpful while others are entertaining and fun. I love all the hacks and low/no carb treats and you told it like it is you can’t eat treats every day and not sabotage you weight loss. I have gained and lost weight all my life. I lost weight cutting calories, WW, calories in/out, exercise, the Zone diet, WW again, low fat and cutting cholesterol and now Keto. I always went back to my old way of eating after the amount of weight I wanted to lose was lost. I would tell my much younger self (started in my late teens gaining weight and I’m now 67) to eat healthy cut out sugar and carbs (didn’t know what a carb was back then but I had a sweet tooth) and stick with it. It is a lifestyle and it is sustainable! You will feel better and not suffer the yo-yo syndrome of losing and gaining. Don’t count the pounds lost but realize the health benefits and how much better you feel not eating all the junk food. I started Keto because I was diagnosed with pre-diabetes las year and researched how to reduce my A1C. My doctor wanted me to go on medication but I refused and didn’t really think it was a big deal until I found Dr Berry. I binge watched his videos and thought what he said made sense. Then he had Amy Berger on his channel talking about a book she co-wrote with Dr Westman called End the Carb Confusion. I bought the book read it immediately and it changed my life! I am 7 months on Keto it has been the easiest thing to do ever and I eat out a lot! My A1C was tested yesterday and it is down to 5.1 from 5.9! It had been creeping up over the last couple of years. My doctor never told me about lifestyle changes that would reduce my blood sugar or explained how carbs affect your body’s production of insulin and why that is bad for you. If you’re struggling and want more knowledge please buy Amy’s book it will open your eyes to why you struggle with your weight and what Keto can do for you. I have my indulgences and enjoy some of the treats you make here. Your stories are amazing and I appreciate you sharing them with us! Thank you!

I would tell myself not to expect big weight and health changes quickly. That it took perhaps years to become overweight and that you have to commit to be consistent and know you are in it for the long haul. It took me 4-5 years to stabilize weight wise and health wise. BUT the key to sticking it out is to eat delicious Keri foods!

If I could go back one year right before I started this new diet (as in basic diet of what I eat, not diet as in just for weightloss purposes), I would tell myself to not let people intentionally or unintentionally try to sabotage my mindset to eat things I shouldn't, to start earlier with getting family on board with eating same things I am, and to bounce right back after falling off rather than just doing the "well, I already ate X so may as well eat Y" carb filled garbage that I shouldn't have. I would also remind myself to pre-plan meals more often for days when I am very busy but can't afford to fall off track.

the longer you do keto, the less you think about food, we stick with a handful of things that are easy and tasty, and we crave less junk. But I've been like you guys, on and off for 20 years. My first bought of atkins lost over 100lbs...put it all back on trying to be like everyone else and eat "normally", meanwhile thinking the entire time about food constantly. It became sort of a disordered way of eating. And now it's harder to lose, but I feel physically and mentally better keeping to low carb. By anxiety is less, depression not as severe, and my joints don't hurt as much. Diets are the problem. Mindset and lifestyle is the fix. The hardest part is social situations. I agree with you that the subsequent times you get back on the keto wagon your weight loss will be less dramatic. Also, keeping it simple with whole foods and cutting the "keto" snacks is right on target. You want to subdue the sweet tooth not cater to it! I feel so much better on keto and I know I am a carbaholic! One bite of sweet is not enough and one is too many. I love your advise to keep a journal of the journey...how you are feeling, what food upset your system, etc. Also, pay attention to real hunger. If you can't drink it away with electrolytes, then it is real hunger. Eat. Keep up the good work, ladies!!!!

That is why I recommend they read the Atkins book to understand low carb! It is nice to do their first stage and you will lose up to 15 lbs in the first two weeks and progress from there! I lost 70 lbs in 4 months! I have lost slower and even stall at times but it is a lifestyle now. I just turned to the higher fat moderate protein and feel so much better and I also learned that I am very carb sensitive! I lose at 20 net carbs, slow at 25 and stall at 30. But by having healthful fat in my diet makes good satiating and taste good and I feel full energy and do not crave carbs as my taste is satisfied! This is how I live now for 4 years! Be careful to much fatty acid can flare osteoarthritis so eat veggies and eat healthy fat not dirty keto I learned that the hard way! You can do this! I have MS and this diet keeps me in remission! 🙌🏻👏😊

    • @TheKetoTable
      @TheKetoTable 3 года назад

Don't go too high on fat on keto but it should have the maximum portion among carbs, fats and proteins... Aim for an average of 70-80% of fats on keto if you're doing high fat, low carb and moderate protein and by this, you'll get into ketosis faster than with low fat, low carb and high protein.

Great points to keep in mind. One of the most important being, seems to me: "Your weight is a little bit of the equation, but there's a lot more going on."
If I could add to what you're saying at around 10:00 - the way so many of us are used to eating, particularly in America, is completely unlike anything that was normal before the mid-20th century. It doesn't even really have to be keto in particular as much as any lifestyle that involves eating primarily whole, unprocessed foods. Cut out everything Madison Avenue says you should eat and that's half the battle right there. I know this is keto-focused, but that's really what I'd've told the younger me.
Not that I would have listened. Who am I kidding? 😆

I went the first month of my journey in 2020 with very few Keto "Treats". For me I had done some research and new it was best to become fat adapted as quickly as possible by eating clean so I would say I was 95% clean in the beginning. After 18 months I do still have treats from time to time (I even had a small piece of watermelon and cantaloupe on my Birthday Vacation as a non-keto treat) but I am now able to turn down all the desserts, chips, ice creams, and breads that were offered with little difficulty. I'd say I'm more 80/20 depending on the week and so far after 100 pounds lost I think it's working out okay. I can't wait to get my free LMNT samples (shipping was paid of course). I have heard y'all talk about them a ton over the last year and I'm excited they are sponsoring your channel.

I turned 50 this year. My hormones are affected by the sugar and carbs I eat. Like dizziness and nausea. Grains are heavily sprayed by chemicals and have turned to poison for me. When I eat sugary things I can literally feel my blood sugar rising and I just feel awful 😣. So in order to have a life now, I’m working with a hormone specialist and she has instructed me to stay away from grains and sugar. She also suggested I fast at night and not during the day as I was. I miss coffee, but I feel better. Maybe down the line when my body has detoxed I can add it back as a once in a while thing, but for now my adrenal glands say no. I enjoy your inspirational videos that show the struggle we all face when trying to improve our health.

I too am someone who has been to this rodeo several times and each time I learn a little bit more about myself - good and bad.
I guess I always knew this was a "forever way of life", but I didn't truly understand how addicted I was to sugar which didn't allow me to stick to low carb if I had the carb count too high. My first time with the rodeo I just cut calories and did WW with the point system. I gained it all back and swore I would never diet again as I just got fatter.
Then, I lost a lot of weight with a move and we moved to an area with a gym and walking paths and I decided to try again, but this time really listening to my body. I NEVER did a diet, but I realized pretty quickly that cutting carbs made me less hungry overall and I felt better. I never went super low carb - I always kept all fruit and veggies, but I cut all grains and processed sugar and that worked.
But I got stuck into doing it "perfectly". I am VERY largely built. My ideal weight according to doctors is probably around 160 at 5'6. I set my goal to 175 which was my high school weight. I got to it and decided to push for "ideal weight". I got to 165 and 25% body fat, but I also was working out at least an hour a day with cardio and/or weights 6 days a week and eating 1500 calories a day or less and as long as I worked out hard like that, I didn't gain, but I was also STARVING - so, so hungry. And then I had one over-use injury, and then another... and then I just completely backslid little by little to close to my top weight again.
But this time I didn't say, "I give up". I just couldn't control my carb addiction. The story is even longer, but eventually, I did start to control it and I started to lose weight not by dieting, but by eating low-carb. I gave up "goals" for weight loss. I wanted to be active and in control of my blood sugars as I am Type 2 diabetic now, but can completely control it with diet.
I now KNOW this is a lifestyle change and I'm OK with doing it. I am down a significant amount of weight. I fast walk 2-3 miles every day and I feel good.
And while I never had aches and pains with eating high carb, I did start snoring and my Dupuytren contracture got WAY worse but is in remission when I eat low carb and the snoring stopped - it's all signs of inflammation.
I still struggle from time to time as I'm a human with a carb addiction, but it's better and better. My next battle is dealing with Seasonal Affect Disorder and my sugar issues in winter!
So I would tell myself - but I probably wouldn't have believed it - you are addicted to sugar - you can't just "stop eating it when you want". It's an ADDICTION.

Yes, I've lost weight on keto (over 30 pounds!), but the wonderful unexpected thing I've discovered is how well balanced my lab work is now! My glucose numbers are below 100, when before I had been ready to tip over into diabetes. My HDL has never been higher, my triglycerides are much lower, and both are in proper ratio to the other. The vast majority of my LDL are the Type A particle variety -- not the calcified, oxygenated Type B that promotes hardened arteries. This is a TERRIFIC motivator for me to continue on keto, knowing that it is giving me great health apart from the weight loss alone!

There are many, many food lifestyles to choose from in this one life we’ve been given. If we find ourselves at a “healthy” weight, overweight, underweight, obese or anorexic (barring any other health challenges) we arrived at this point through our past and present “lifestyle”. Our only choice - is to change the lifestyle to arrive at a different destination. Repeating our present behaviors will keep us on the same road to the same place. We can focus on what must give up or on what we get to have; on deprivation or abundance and to feel better and perhaps live a healthier, longer life.
