I will not change my opinion. Game is Audio/Visual a highlight and if they fix HDR and the disappointing 5.1 mix it would be reference BUT the game is very boring and I was relieved when I finished the game. It took me 10 hours to finish it, no idea how someone can finish the game in around 5 hours.

i finished the game in 6h on hard, and enjoyed the visuals with HDR. It was very nice experience but too short and only cool element was the fighting

I think what shocked me most about this game was the fact it took them 5 years and so much money for such a short experience.

i played this on a PC in HDR, with headphones. i find that it being an interactive made me more immersed.
(its dark and you and the character cant see much, but you have to keep pressing on into the darkness.)

I watched someone stream it. I have a surround system. It's a terrible experience. They tried to just make the game as annoying and disappointing as possible.

It's a typical sales candidate and you gotta know what to expect from the game. It's for most parts a walking simulator and more art then game (okay, games are art ^^), with difficult to stomach themes sometimes. It is a playable movie.
The Matrix demo was better.

As far as the 5.1 audio, the game is really meant for headphones since it was recorded with binaural audio.

Yup, as an audio guy they take a different approach for audio.
Most studios nowadays when doing 3D audio for headphones will use spatial sound API’s like the Microsoft Spatial Sound API for Xbox (Dolby Atmos/DTSX) or Tempest 3D for PlayStation.
When using MSS API, you will get a 7.1.4 channel bed for home theatre systems so you get a great result. For headphones it will get an HRTF down conversion. HRTF essentially simulates binaural audio via an algorithm, but the results can be hit or miss depending on how well the audio engineers downmixed the Spatial Audio to stereo.
Binaural audio on the other hand doesn’t require any simulation, as it actually uses multiple microphones during the recording process, so rather than creating a virtual environment for the sound to simulate how sound enters the ears, binaural audio uses traditional recording techniques to achieve the same result. While HRTF can be hit or miss with headphones (as well as MSS API/Spatial Sound for home theatre systems), Binaural audio is almost always a hit since there’s no simulating required.
I like to think of Binaural Audio as the Analog version of Spatial Sound over headphones, while HRTF is digital.
I personally would have liked to see Ninja theory utilize the MSS API, with a good stereo downmix to get the best of both worlds (great headphone and home theatre mix), as the downside to Binaural audio is that it results in a less than stellar Home Theatre experience, but I’m guessing they simply wanted to stick to what they were already good at since their audio engineering was clearly already set up for Binaural audio with the first Hellblade.
The reason why it sounds bad in 5.1, is that the Binaural audio is recorded with 2 microphones (or channels), so it really again isn’t designed for home theatre systems. It’s my personal pet peeve with Binaural Audio, because as I said there are ways to get the best of both worlds. But the reality is most gamers are still using stereo headphones even if they have high end home theatre systems, so most audio engineers first concern is to make sure it sounds good over stereo headphones. It’s why a lot of developers still choose to avoid supporting Dolby Atmos/MSS API/Tempest, but the game will always sound better when you have 12 channels with the MSS API vs 2 channels with binaural audio.

What headphones u have ? I have the rig 800 and in the cave scene , I definitely heard them coming from the back of my headphones, left, to right. For a short game I definitely wanted more, but it wasn’t boring. It’s not a masterpiece, but it’s an awesome game to try.
I finished the game on my RTX 4090 card, LG C1 TV , and a Dolby Atmos Marantz home theater system.
The sounds are amazing , on ceiling and surround speakers

A história é bem desenvolvida e o primeiro game é até curto, mas te prende do início ao fim.
Já o segundo mantém a fidelidade e adiciona mecânicas novas que nem falei. Como estou jogando ainda pela primeira vez o 2, não sei a duração desse, mas parece que vai ser maior que o primeiro.
Tmb zerei stellarblade, só tem uma parte ruim desse game é que acaba 😅

I appreciate that it may not be for everyone, but I really enjoyed the game and didn't find it boring in the least.
I'm on act IV of the game and I'm on the verge of not continuing. I did finish the first game, but I'm not sure a second part was needed on what essentially is a psychosis simulator (!) Reference visuals/sound/animation? Absolutely, as it makes other good-looking games of this generation (Avatar, Jedi Survivor, Immortals of Aveum, to name a few) look past gen, but I want these visuals on a game that is actually fun to play...
So far i think the game is excellent and the story aswell, and also the presentation is true next gen im not finding it boring at all. But like you say everybodys opinion is different.

It's kinda short, I mean they've put a lot of work into this, I was expecting something longer. I got immersed in the story and atmosphere and was glad to find more insights from the Senua world, but still I wanted it to be longer.

@@AnimeUniverseDE that's not how I experienced it. Binaural Audio when don correct sound better on speakers than pure stereo. Also Binaural Audio is technically speaking still stereo. Its just recorded with a lot of microphones.

@@GamingTech-RUclips there's a distinct difference difference between both terms. Binaural means two separate sound sources that don't overlap, like headphones. With stereo you also have two sound sources, but they do overlap. That happens with two speakers, because they are spatially separately placed and their acoustic waves overlap.
Binaural HRIF audio is really designed to be listened to on headphones, because their two sound sources are not supposed to overlap. Look up Dan Worral's video on Headphones are not stereo

PS: I beat the game yesterday and liked it. However, in my opinion, he isn't wrong about the gameplay, even if I didn't find it quite as boring as him. I liked the fights, but I think they should have included a higher difficulty setting than Hard. I played on Hard and died only once during the whole game. And I am by no means an incredible player.

A 5.1 speaker setup with rear speakers is not correct. Besides the LCR, the rest of the two speakers should be on the sides, not rear. No wonder it sounds wrong.
That's not correct. It depends on the Speaker type and also Dolby recommends to have the rear speaker behind you in a 110 - 120 degree setup. And what does it change from my observation? If I am expecting a sound behind me then the sound should came from the rear speakers and not from the front channels.
@@GamingTech-RUclips You either have your side surrounds on the rear wall and getting surround sound from the rear (wrong) or they are on the sides behind ears correctly but expecting rear sounds from them. You need to have a 7.1 setup for rear sounds as no matter the type of speaker, Dolby is not mean to register rear sounds in 5.1 setup. DTS will as they are great at phantom imaging.

It’s basically an Audio and Tech demo,Phenomenal visuals and sound design,But gameplay wise it’s not really a full fledged game.
Note to mention,Oleds don’t have very good speculative highlights and brightness compared to LCDs LEDs,Let alone black crushing.

I tried the game on game pass for free. The visuals look really good on my lg nanocell tv 85 series tv, one of the best looking games I’ve ever seen! But the gameplay is so BOOOOORING. I was yawning throughout the whole game. And the bad thing about it, is that the first game was better in terms of gameplay and length! Even though people also wasn’t a fan of the first.

I played the whole game this way and it was very crisp. I didn't touch motion blur and depth of field, as I like these effects.

After finishing the disappointment that was Hellblade 2, i immediately started playing H1 and it is a completely different game, is actually amazing, i didn't not got bored at all unlike the second game that it was bored fest, the only similarities between the two games are that is the same character and that is a linear game, the first game has better story, better dialog, better gameplay, waaay more types of puzzles, a bunch of crazy hallucinations because you know she's schizophrenic something they forgot on the second game, the soundtrack is epic specially in combat, oh and the combat is not linear like the second game, you can fight multiple enemies at once and it has more combos, it is way more satisfying and epic, plus the voices help you when you have an enemie behind you, those rock faces that are extremely obvious on the second game that are all the same, on the first game a lot of them are a bit difficult to find because instead of been the same head, you find the faces in the trees, water clouds etc...
I give the first game a 7.8, the second game a 3 because of how boring and disappointing the game was, yeah the graphics look nice and it has its awesome moments, but everything else sucks, how can you take 1 step foward in graphics and then 20 steps back on everything else and completely be an inferior game to the first one, 6 years down the drain, i truly want to know what ninja theory was doing all this time.
Oh, and i almost forgot, both games have a trials chapter, the first game did it great every trial was different, with different types of puzzles and hallucinations, on the second game the trials where the same puzzle over and over again for almost two hours straight, i thought i was gonna go crazy.
If you haven't played the first one or haven't played it in a while, i truly recommend you play it again so you can see what the second game could have been.
They added HDR and raytracing o the first game too.

It's worse than just boring but hey at least it's a great tech demo. Looks insane on that tv man. Looks great on my C1 too, playing at night I forget about the black bars and get really immersed in the cinematics. But then it asks you to play and.. yeah
It looks fantastic without a doubt but it's just disappointing in terms of gameplay

There are far too many 30 minute segments in the game where all you do is press up on the left stick

I have a 7.1 surround sound (not atmos) and I agree, the sound mix is quite odd. For instance, the voices in her head were just coming out of the front right and left speakers.. It makes no sense why they wouldn't use surround L&R and back surrounds as well. Like they could have easily made certain sets of voices to come from only certain speakers, which would be quite intriguing and informative since you know which voice is telling you what throughout the game. You could identify a "voice" by the speaker you hear it from in a sense. Such a lost opportunity. I get that they're going with the binaural audio bs and it's ideal with headphones.. But if you're game is nothing but a showcase, then put the time to mix the audio for other sources as well. Take RE2 remake, they had a toggle to enable disble binaural audio, they don't force it down your throat.
HDR was way too dark on my LG G3 even with the lights off. I simply ended up using RTX HDR instead and it looked way better tbh, overall at least. Yes it's not perfect and lost some details, but as overall, much better than in-game HDR imo.
Anyway, the game is brain dead boring. I stopped after the first "boss" fight.
Hellblade 2 = Walk, shimmy, then fake fight for 5 1/2 hours. Outside of graphics, Hellblade 1 is a far superior game and story.
You do the exact same things in Hellblade 1, HB2 is better in every way

@@jeffreysmith7377 It's literally the same game, just a continuation of Senuas story with updated graphics. I played and finished the first one just last week before playing this, and they are not different. I still prefer the first game's story though.
After finishing the disappointment that was Hellblade 2, i immediately started playing H1 and it is a completely different game, is actually amazing, i didn't not got bored at all unlike the second game that it was bored fest, the only similarities between the two games are that is the same character and that is a linear game, the first game has better story, better dialog, better gameplay, waaay more types of puzzles, a bunch of crazy hallucinations because you know she's schizophrenic something they forgot on the second game, the soundtrack is epic specially in combat, oh and the combat is not linear like the second game, you can fight multiple enemies at once and it has more combos, it is way more satisfying and epic, plus the voices help you when you have an enemie behind you, those rock faces that are extremely obvious on the second game that are all the same, on the first game a lot of them are a bit difficult to find because instead of been the same head, you find the faces in the trees, water clouds etc...
I give the first game a 7.8, the second game a 3 because of how boring and disappointing the game was, yeah the graphics look nice and it has its awesome moments, but everything else sucks, how can you take 1 step foward in graphics and then 20 steps back on everything else and completely be an inferior game to the first one, 6 years down the drain, i truly want to know what ninja theory was doing all this time.
Oh, and i almost forgot, both games have a trials chapter, the first game did it great every trial was different, with different types of puzzles and hallucinations, on the second game the trials where the same puzzle over and over again for almost two hours straight, i thought i was gonna go crazy.
If you haven't played the first one or haven't played it in a while, i truly recommend you play it again so you can see what the second game could have been.

It’s his opinion… as a player, true one, supports does mean nothing since playing on everything is the key to enjoy gaming. And that’s what he is doing. In the gaming world, some have some definition of what a game is, or should be.. but the truth is there is no frontiers in a game conception. After it’s the sensibilities of each one of how you enjoy the game developers purpose.

This game is super boring I struggled to get an hour and a half into it and the game itself is only 5 hrs long. In the meantime, 5hrs just flew by in the Systemshock remake I'm currently playing. That should tell you a lot.
Also, this whole most beautiful game nonsense is getting on my nerve. At best. Its a good tech demo for unreal engine 5. You can actually see where the studio cut corners in both the character animations and the backgrounds. The character models outside of the quick time cinematics look stiff and lifeless. It doesn't help that the actress for Senua has large eyes because they make her look more like a lifeless doll when just walking around. The backgrounds are little more than window dressing as you can not go to them or really interact with them. And even though the water looks great in some areas but in other areas, particularly the waves in the ocean at times look polygonal in a way I haven't seen since the ps3 or Xbox 360. The game can be a quick time event lover's dream, but mostly just falls short.
On a side note, this game seems like it's forcing atmosphere, the way a giant spectacle film by some big name director would try to force it on you, with special effects. While, a game like System Shock nails dread and atmosphere despite purposely having a retro esthetic.
when graphics outweigh game play to this extreme level, graphics become a distraction from the meaning and the merits of gaming. the first Hellblade was a charming surprise, but for the sequel to do so little with itself is disappointing.

I finished Hellblade 1 and it was also too simple and often boring. The puzzles and "exploration" was so simple it took me out of the game and took away my immersion. The gameplay was so unengaging that I started to think about the artifice and how braindead the design was. It was a game about touching the next script trigger, broken up by the occasional fight scene. Somehow Hellblade 2 doubles down on this design and is even simpler, which makes it a hard sell for me regardless of how good it looks.

It’s a bit disappointing because it was one of Microsoft’s most advertised titles for the series consoles. Now turned out as a AA game with 8-10 hrs of very basic gameplay.
Visually it’s absolutely stunning but gameplay wise a huge disappointment.
It's only disappointing if you expected it to be something different from the first game, which it was never going to be. If you didn't enjoy the first, there was no way you should be thinking you were going to enjoy this either. I mean, what were you expecting?

neither of them are great games either both have the same issues this does but people will blank it. Weak gameplay which is the back seat to visuals and story. RDR2 on consoles you don't even play it has auto aim on by default which just screams gameplay is bad.

The voices throughout the entire game was so annoying. Not even enjoyable. It's very linear game with quick time event fights. No UI. Forced effects that you can't turn off. Short game. Mediocre story. Only one on one fights. There is even an option in the settings menu to let the fights play themselves. Not worth it.
Thats why i hate modern gaming they trying so hard to movie sets , games are about fun addicted gameplay
