23rd uh... it would've done better in theaters.
😂😂😂....
Underrated comment.
Not really watching walkthroughs are just as dull. Can't imagine sitting in a theater for 5 plus hours of light puzzles, a couple boss fights and hours of walking through pretty scenery.
Was not a movie?
Would've done great in theaters if they took all the walking out, which would make it right around a one and a half hours movie. Lol.
@@ArielCleirigh it was a movie tho lol
Here are the facts:
Xbox counts players as anyone who got to the start menu in a game. This can easily be seen if you get xbox rewards. You get credit for playing as soon as you hit the menu.
Xbox "players" aren't even finishing the game. Only a little over 6% have. It's a 5-7 hour game, so that's a really low number.
Paul Tassi has really changed his tune because he said it was disappointing.
Holy hell 6%? That's hilarious
Tango gameworks did better and was shut down
lots of people fall asleep during the cave sequence, so that might be why some playtimes are inflated to 8 hours
I fell asleep a lot on the beach in the beginning lol
I just finished the game and thought that part was incredible after the first few puzzles
It's hit or miss. Kinda like the Atreus cave puzzle in Ragnarok. Tho, there's way more going on in the latter. @@danieltravelstead
@@blackmanwithcomputer the puzzles are a little boring and used to keep players interested in the story. They definitely could have been better. The atmosphere of the 2nd half of the cave section, gorgeous visuals and interesting storytelling are more what I was referring to.
cave was my favorite section tbh.
Hellblade 2 should have been released on the Xbox Series console launch as a bundled pre installed game(same as Astro Playroom), to show the capabilities of the new generation.
Bit too niche for a bundle title
I guess it is time to say farewell to Ninja Theory.
After 7 years I don't know if it's undeserved. Shame since there was so much potential after the first one
Good they make trash
@@noamias4897 it started development in 2020. They did a live service game in between the hellblade games
You mean hellblade 2? If so im afraid that’s not accurate. The first trailer was part of the xbox series x announcement trailer and that was december 2019. In fact, according to this YT there are only 2 major set pieces in the game and the section shown in that 1st trailer is one of them. Ninja Theory did not deliver here, and thats very sad. Happy gaming
@@irocz11 no more excuses... What did you find out for Starfield, Redfall, etc... ??
I remember watching Hellblade 2, but i dont recall playing anything.
23 place cause many xbots are playing hellblade 2 on RUclips.
@@ArielCleirigh Idk what you just said, but I love the spirit.
It’s not doing alright. It’s doing awful. Especially for insane 5-7 years of development
People keep pretending that somehow people downloading it on WelfarePass is somehow the same thing as people actually purchasing software. Its almost like people have been saying that WelfarePass destroys sales and, isn't sustainable. Only reason Black Ops 6 is getting put on WelfarePass day 1 is because Xbots don't buy games anyway so they're not going to take a huge hit
Only about 2-3 years of development, they stopped supporting Bleeding Edge just a few years ago
By this logic, Dragons Dogma 2 must be horrible because it's literally not even on the Most Played list right now (i.e., it's not top 50).
The point is that the most played charts don't really tell you anything, especially the Xbox one because the game 10-15 games have dominated the list for years, the only time it's shaken up is when a brand new multiplayer game drops
It was in développement for 3 to 4 years. Shut up.
@@lutherheggs451can we not act like all the most played games aren’t on both consoles damn near makes no difference on what you play on
Gotta give credit to xbox they sure do know how to fuck up games 😂
Ninja theory will be in the toilet by the end of june.
They haven't made a good game since DMC in 2013 and even then that's also pretty niche.
I respect game devs but if you've spent 15 years making 3 games, 2 of which are practically movies then it's hard to feel sympathetic if it all goes bust 🤷♂️.
There's a reason that there are no major fax machine companies anymore, they cater to a market that is tiny/non existent
Hellblade isn't a game for all the players... that's it
And then you have Stellar Blade. Forget the stellar (pun intended) eye candy, just the visceral combat makes it an astronomically better game. It's FUN. Something Ninja Theory forgot about...
Ppl only wanted that game for T&A… then flipped out when they censored it lol.
@aaralynhall the real story is that the T&A brought players....but the amazing gameplay kept them.
They are different games
Stellar Blade ain’t that good either. Incredibly boring characters and a wannabe Nier story. Y’all really need to play Nier to see how much it rips it off, don’t wanna spoil it because I’ll end up inadvertently spoiling nier. Neither of them stand a chance of winning GOTY.
@@Mohgenstein Stellar Blade has much better combat than Nier, but yeah obviously Bier's story is superior. That being said my point was that it was a fun game, something that Ninja Theory forgot to implement completely on their interactive movie. I neebr said anything about GoTY relax.
If they shut down Tango Gameworks, which has a plethora of successful games under their belt including a smash hit like HiFi Rush, then Ninja Theory has zero chance. Pretty much the only game of any note they've made was the first Hellblade (Enslaved was alright, but few even know it exists) and now that the sequel did this badly, they don't have a whole lot to their name. Literally the only thing that can keep Ninja Theory alive is the fact that Xbox is afraid of another massive backlash like it happened for Tango - which is a scary thought. It feels like nobody under the Xbox umbrella is safe at this point.
They did make the DMC reboot, which had solid gameplay but awful writing
Hellblade 2 is good as well. Tango also wasn’t shut down because they were doing poorly. It had more to do with Zenimax consolidating and them being based in Japan.
Smash hit? Idk, It has a following, but I'm sure if it was a smash hit, MS wouldn't have shut them down
why the hell do you think them being based in Japan is why they got axed? have you seen game dev salaries in Japan compared to US , its practically cheap labour
@@bingbong3084 I don’t think them being based in Japan is the primary reason they were shut down. I think it was taken into consideration though. The main reason they were shut down is because Bethesda wants to consolidate in order to pump out more games like Fallout and Elder Scrolls. Tango, unfortunately, doesn’t fit into that long term vision.
Ninja Theory, on the other hand, are a small studio that will probably be used for support with Unreal 5. NT, along with the Coalition, are extremely talented when it comes to Unreal. They also have 2-3 games that will be released over the next 5 years, so their output will be decent.
You say PlayStation gamers love this type of game. I am one of the people you are speaking of and I would never pay 50 bucks to play this game. Miles morales was 50 bucks with 3x the game length and I still felt like it was just barely enough content to justify the price.
The only reason I didn’t complain about miles was because I got the ps5 upgrade of the original Spider-Man. But you’re right, it was just barely worth the $50. I’m not complaining about what I got for the price though
Same here. Seems like a dumb statement to me.
Sure, many cinematic games did very well (in the past) - but they more often than not also had good gameplay.
For comparison...
I played the free Stellar Blade demo for 15 hours (the full game over 100 hours so far). I love the game and it does very well.
Hellblade 2 is a 5-7 hours "game" with almost no gameplay and no replay value and it took 5 years to make...
I would be very disappointed if I had to pay $50 or more for Hellblade 2.
It surely benefits greatly from being free on Gamepass (in terms of user reviews).
But the fact that the game got the same Metascore from critics as Stellar Blade - that's such a joke.
I would say that now it's the journalists who like these games the most (focus on story, short, easy to play)
- not the Playstation players.
$50 bucks for a 5 hour game is robbery.
a game does not need to be long to be worth the price, but it needs to be interesting from start to finish or need to be replayeble.
Ahhh...so this is where all the Ponies who didn't actually play the game & those who didn't play the game the RIGHT WAY(ie playing ALONE with headphones IMMERSED & finding collectibles further fleshing out story) are Smh
Ponies? They can't play games they have hooves. I don't think a horse could play a video game if you trained it . What drugs are you on because I want them
So it flop super hard
Yeah
You like it don't you? Do you want a medal?
Not really
Yes@@pneumonoultramicroscopicsi4065
@@pneumonoultramicroscopicsi4065I love it. Microsoft want to buy everything because they don't belong in gaming .
The Xbox "most played" charts don't mean much when the same few games have dominated it for years (fortnite, minecraft, cod, roblox, etc), like what game is going to come out and have more players than fortnite? Definitely not a single player narrative game, that's for sure. You can't even count that as competition.
Those charts dont mean anything. Go and look at it. Baldurs Gate 3 is like 35 or something, and i dont even think Dragons Dogma 2 is on the list.
hope the fans enjoyed last ninja theory game, no shot in hell their next project is gonna release when its peak players on steam is lower than the views this video has. Sure its free on gamepass but does that generate enough sales to actually wait another 4-7 years with dozens of millions in budget down the drain?
This isn't the type of game PlayStation gamers like it's not comparable to any PlayStation games other than having a game with a story lol Sony's games have gameplay this doesn't.
It's like saying Nintendo fans would love Skull Island Rise Of Kong because it looks like a game that released 20+ years ago just like all of Nintendo's games on the Switch
I’m sorry, but if Tango Dreamworks got closed for HiFi Rush, this studio should get the same treatment after Hellblade 2.
I’m not trying to hate, just looking for consistency.
i cant imagine the budget for this game was huge, certainly its marketing was basically 0. its still a niche "indie" game, that simply isnt indie anymore...the old hellblade was basically the same type of game
We need to know the budget then. Is it really that huge? Or is it really small? We don't know yet sadly, we sure need to figure out with reports.
taking the average software salary in the UK for devs at 60k and considering junior hires probably around 50k average per year x 80 (total employee count) x 4 years ( assuming hired post covid ) leaves you at 16M purely on averages in only salary thats excluding other baseline equity costs like the expensive mo cap suits , the tech itself also has no ''cheap mo cap'' in professional enviorment. Personally think the ROI for the project is easily in the 100 million range.
@@kowaikokoro i did notice a lot of stuff in the credits outside of the main studio, which was pretty small, it almost feels like this game isnt really AAA but money was thrown at it to make a UE5 tech demo. The original hellblade though was like 20 people and it was a great looking game for the time, also the lead actor was just an employee at ninja theory

Disagree that Playstation gamers would eat this up because no gamer would eat up this glorified QTE "game" with a pretentious smelling their own farts story. You're unfortunately buying into the misinformed stereotype that PS games have no gameplay.
I thought the game was pretty good. The story wasn't nearly as good as 1 and the direction it took didn't hit me on the same level emotionally as the first. But otherwise it was a pretty engaging cinematic game. It was visually incredible. I didn't love the combat but I loved the music that played during combat. I hope we get a 3rd and I'm keen to see where senua goes next.
5:46 I don't want to "play" that movie it's boring 2 hours of walking and 15 min on "combat" I'm going to Play spiderman God of war with amazing gameplay
Well you piss away Microsoft's money for 5 years and come out with a 5-hour walking game. What'd you expect.
I just dont get who it's for. Why would i come home after a day of work and play something with almost no gameplay and a miserable story about mental illness and misery.
Theres a reason my go to games are all fun and goofy.
I just camt fathom the audience for this shit 😂
Yeah I think with Redfall with its multiplayer component makes sense to have higher numbers. Friends getting together to just laugh and see how bad it truly was
You mean Redfail?
Red Fail, Star Flop, and now this.
You forgot about HiFi Flop. The game made in 2018 that Zenimax had no faith in when it was made for everything not just Xbox so they shelved it, until MS bought Zenimax and was desperate for something to drop onto WelfarePass. But it is kinda hilarious how people keep pretending it was made after the merger, specifically for Xbox and not a multiplat being made for PS4, PS5, Switch, PC and Xbox....It was only obvious by how they had ports ready to go so quickly.
Yeh I'm glad I was able to sell the series X at rhebprice I did...I called it quits after starfail

6. Spider man ps4.
7. Spiderman miles morales (yes, I have seen the tweets)
8. Spiderman 2
9. Horizon forbidden west
10. Death Stranding
Also, Ryse : Son of Rome and The Order 1886, both of these games are better cinematic games than Senua 2.
ok to be fair the gameplay for death stranding was god awful but everything else was fantastic... the gameplay was basically a mailman simulator too
@@crazyunclecrispy6140 it takes a while for Death Stranding's gameplay loops and systems to click, but when they do, you realize they're pretty clever and addictive. Hellblade 2 is one of most pathetic video games of all time especially considering the development time
If you want to complete it 100% and collect all of the colletables you'll need more than 8 hours for sure
Deservedly so. I passed the game myself on twitch, so uninterested in it that I didn't care for it
i find it funny how people still get surprised by how bad xbox performs...
anything new? 😂😂😂😂
HellBlade 2 seems to be like The Order 1886, all the way to the "cinematic" aspect ratio. The order 1886 got an awful 63 critic score on metacritics, while HellBlade 2 is sitting at 81. I would argue The Order 1886 offers much more gameplay.
And yet despite everyone in the comments whining and bitching about it, people seem to love it more. It’s definitely not a shooter or a game for everyone but a lot of people including myself really enjoyed it.
10th would be alright, 23rd for their first big title of the year is a disaster.
ESPECIALLY with it being in gamepass.
Now sale, low player count. Nothing alright about that.
I subscribed to PC Game pass because of Hellblade2.. I played Hellblade1+2 in succesion. It was great experience, I would give them both 8/10. I don't need 30h games with checklists and map markers.
How would you have felt if you had paid for them full price.
That's really good for being so horrible according to all you RUclips nerds.
Dude 23rd ain’t alright is horrible lol
Followed a guide for all collectibles in one playthrough and it takes 8 hours. Listened to a few of the stories all the way through.
Only MJ deserves the number 23…
On consoles game pass top played game list Hellblade2 is in 5th spot from 19 positions (most played 19 game top). Minecraft, Siege, Forza5 and Fallout4 are in front of Hellblade2. No Starfield in the top list. :D
the ending is the most anti climatic none ending ever. Really we get two giants.... and then fight daddy. Thats it... the ending reworked to include giants that built into the reveal that he was influencing the giants.. the game would have worked. It just felt like the game was cut short and abruptly ended because funding pulled or something. The beautiful graphics are a result of Unreal 5... not the time put into it. wtf took so long to build such an empty game. I still liked aspects of it, but the potential of what it could be is sad.
I enjoyed it
No way they're up to the level of ND, that's hilarious. It'll never happen, they're not talented enough and never have been. Every single game they've made has been mid, including DMC (remember they made fun of the OG DMC and changed his hair colour).
And now it's top 5 ;) 3,300 reviews 76 percent of them 5 star. There is a disconnect between people who actually played the game and the people who cant play the game online and giving t heir opinions aka rage baiters and sony ponies lol
Can't wait to see it at the movie awards.
23rd on Xbox? How many people owns a Xbox at this point?
38 million Xbox series players this Call of duty gamepass thing will grow the Xbox community by 20 million by 2026
Just the people who dont want to play good games
I did two runs - my first, with 100%,took me about 7 hrs and the second run, straight through with combat on automatic mode, took me 4 hrs 34 min. I really liked it for that what it is - an audio/visual experience but not a "real" videogame...
I’m a PlayStation guy who would be interested in this game. Love story driven games. Detroit become human, fort solis, gone home, what happened to Edith finch, heavy rain, beyond two souls.
I play more gameplay oriented games as well, but I do enjoy this genre.
If Ninja Theory is shuttered, in my opinion it's their fault. They've dropped the ball with Hellblade 2. The general consensus is that as well as being far too short, it just doesn't hit like the first. The gameplay is lacklustre, the story was meh, the ending was disappointing. The only other game they have in the last few years is Bleeding Edge, which is pretty much dead. As much as I don't wish people to lose their jobs, they also have to take responsibility for their own work, or lack of. You can't keeping missing the mark with games and think that people are still going to be pumping in money.
So from reviews it sounds like the actual gameplay is a bit of a chore, but the story and visuals are great.
But I can experience those (mostly) via streaming...
So I guess the drive isn't really there.
Also the drive to learn a new combat system for 6hrs of gameplay... meh
What is Hellblade two about? The majority of game pass users when you look at those top games with Apex fortnight and the others Roblox all being on there I would say the average age is probably 18 and under. When are people going to stop and think that some games just aren’t meant for everyone. In fact, some games should not be in front of everyone especially help blade too, the game is about a woman with severe mental issues and it’s just a subject matter that is never ever ever going to be a top seller. Sorry I spoke this message and it certainly looks like poop. All I’m saying is at some point stop and read the room guys . People acting like the original was so amazing and now ripping on this are full of SH*t. I wish they didn’t get rid of melee because the fighting is noticeably worse but other than that it’s the same freaking game! It’s boring a lot of the time and that’s OK! Damn it’s gorgeous though
It’s a difference between content creators and gamers these people on youtube are not gamers anymore they at work and doing their job
I would buy it.
But oh wait, it isnt available on gog.
In that case I will wait for a prikce drop on steam: it has to be around 5 bucks.
If I dont own a copy of the game, Im not wasting more money on it.
Sorry, but I have standards.
If you like these kind of games, you are absolutely entitled to your opinion. But to me, it’s like you’re just watching a movie… it’s so heavily focused on visuals and cinematic appeal that the gameplay takes a huge back seat. The gameplay should never take a back seat in a video game
If they cut Tango, Ninja Theory is screwed. It's next game being greenlit means fuck all. They also spent over 5 years working on HB2, not 2-3. They made a conscious choice to go with a 5 hour game, for DOUBLE the price of the original with half the hours
I do agree that the combat and story was way bettah in part 1
Whle following the H2 development it was always supposed to be a continuation of Hellblade with the similar storytelling approach and gameplay mechanics. From what I see H2 is exactly that even in terms of lenght - according to HLTB H1 and H2 have exactly same runtime of 8 hrs (for main + extras). It's a niche game, covering a difficult topic (mental illness), offering a specific gamplay, made first and formost for the fans of H1. Has MS ever suggested or looked at H2 as a big release aimed at tens of thousands players peak on Steam and Top 5 played at xbox? If they have, they are out of their minds. And so are the gamers who expected the same IMO
Xbox needs a complete overhaul of their leadership and even that might not fix this utter disaster.
It makes sense to play and enjoy this game on Game Pass but couldnt imagine paying $60 for it...
Many of us on xbox are only playing it because it's on game pass. How many people have actually bought it?. I would guess not many.
players count on steam is controversial?!? hahaha Paul is a clown..legendary xbot..
This isnt surprisng at all, the first one wasnt exactly a real world banger. People need to reapise that the vast majority of people dont care about games like this, it also wasnt as loved as the Forbes article suggested, most reviews say it lacks everything except graphics
Needed 3 more giants to go after. The cave section was amazing, sounds design and atmosphere was terrifying. Now I want a 'The descent' style horror game
I think even on ps not sure it will do much better 50$ is too much for 5h and 3 of them is walking. Graphics did not save the order.
I play on PlayStation, I loved the first Hellblade, Hellblade 2 seemed interesting but the apparent downgrade to the combat and what little else I saw didn't justify me to get it even on PC... so I bought Indika instead since both share some similarities, I liked Indika a lot and I hope if the dev team get the chance the expand on it, and that they learn from Ninja Theory how not to make a sequel
I have to say that I loved the game. Yes, it is short and insufficient for the development time but I loved the journey.
The gaslighting of journalists is so embarrassing and sad. Websites claiming that user reviews are great are the purest form of misleading information
I mean, what did they expect ? A 5 hours AAA game with no replayability. Players just beat it on release day and will never touch it again.
Ninja Theory is going to be closed within a year. I wish MS never bought them.
My interpreation is that means people are spending less money on games. It would be in the top 5 if people were spending money.
Its the worst W simulator released
it reeks of corpo boyband focus groups its crap💩 & i hate quick time events
Every game that gets released nowadays you guys find a way to bring it down .seriously comparing hell blade 2 with redfall shows you know nothing about games redfall was a mess
Is that on us...or is that on them. It's there job to impress us. The first game was a success but it was a very flawed game. They had a chance to make better combat. And they failed to deliver. These devs keep making such stupid decisions. Look at Suicide Squad kill the justice league. Everybody who heard about that game knew it was a bad idea. Coop Looter shooter is the opposite of what the people who love Arkham games wanted. So why didn't the DEVs know that too.
I blame the marketing, there’s was just no marketing push behind this game, and even then the game itself is just disappointing as a sequel.
Why would you blame the marketing if you also say the game was disappointing. Maybe the marketing was bad because they knew the game was disappointing.
I wonder if hellblade 2 will come to playstation
I am having hard time believing you
Xbox took 7 years to make a boring movie 😅
Wow and yet all of those arent sales.

Wdym PlayStation gamers would like this type of game??? No I wouldn’t 😂 I actually _like_ playing my games. If I wanted something cinematic, I’d watch Harry Potter. The PlayStation exclusive games I play have gameplay. You know, they’re _games,_ and not walking simulators. Indie games I get on my Switch and laptop for a fraction of this price have more content, gameplay and replayability than this. Hades _literally_ exists. Like Luke said before, this needs to be a free tech demo because it isn’t a game
Taking a victory lap? =D
The Rad Brad got through it in 6 and a half hours 😂
Anybody wanna buy my Xbox?
The two main complaints I’ve heard are combat isn’t as good, and it’s too short. The first is arguably true, but come on, not like this was Sekiro or something to begin with. Too short? It’s an hour, maybe two shorter than the first. I think the bigger issue here is Microsoft owning Ninja Theory.
I'm concerned for CRAPGAMER mental health. Xbox will never win the console wars
the XBox App listed me playing hellblade 2 for 9 hours lol. i´m also surprised. but i am bad in combat. and apparently also stupid because i was searching for the damn lore stones way too long and still didn´t manage to find them all.
Oh and it took me ages to get the right graphics settings for my PC.
Given that some people are out there showing 40-60 hours of playtime on hellblade 2... maybe someone was pushing for a community effort to push it up?
People just have better things to do. Five hours of average game is a waste of time. Especially when you can put those hours into games that you already own and like to play.
That and there are just other things to do. I think for many years, a lot of gamers just played games and that was it. Especially in younger years. But there are so many other things to do in life, tv and movies to watch, etc. Players are done wasting their life away on trash/boring games.
I might check it out on PC eventually with game pass. It’s hard to imagine how sustainable this model can be. I love supporting these types of projects/studios but for the cost and length and “gameplay” it’s just so hard to justify
It's definitely worth going through on a weekend on Gamepass! Especially if you have a good PC to turn everything up!
I just finished it and had a good time playing it. With game pass it’s a no brainer. I don’t know why people are hating it so much? Why do people hate game pass but love Netflix?🤷♂️
Anyway, I will do a second play though with a different narration options next time.

I'm a PS gamer and enjoy these type of games... I didn't enjoy Hellblade 2 or Hellblade 1 for that matter.
Bleeding Edge was fun for a couple months, but not enough content to keep anyone interested. I played it alot and even have a few gameplay clips on my page. I remember them calling it their "Passion Project". I feel like it was nice for Phil to allow these studios to do these little Passion projects but they now need to concentrate on building games they know are going to sell and be huge for the brand. Variety and uniqueness is always nice, but they need some masterpiece games right now to turn their reputation around.
