@cernunnos_lives As a matter of fact it was actually not WotC who fired all those people. This decision was made at the Hasbro level which is above WotC. It is wrong btw that 1000 people where fired at WotC - it's the total number of people fired by Hasbro (which doesn't make it any better of course). About 650 people where fired at WotC, the rest where fired across other Hasbro owned companies.
I believe Larian came into conflict with WOTC, resulting in them firing the entire team that supported larian with BG3. IMO the origin of this conflict is that larian loves mods and wanted to make a full customization mod tool pack but WOTC forbade it. The reason for this is wizards sells their virtual tabletop subs and are actually releasing a new VTT that looks suspiciously similar BG3 LOL. Basically, the biggest fear for WOTC is people using BG3 to run virtual campaigns instead of buying into their ecosystem, and it's ultimately this that caused a rift and made Larian opt out of continuing to work with wizards. Larian with how big they are now could've easily worked on bg3 dlc etc AND work on their other projects, so I dont believe larian when they argue this 😅. Anyways, nobody can convince me that larian didn't leave the door wide open for modders to unlock the full mod kit unofficially in their latest patch. They know exactly what they were doing lol.
@Morden97 WOTC is only slowing down the inevitable since Larian can do the same thing with Divinity series. And besides, Dungeon and Dragons is just medieval fantasy, nothing really special about the IP itself, so if not BG3, then the next game Larian makes will have mods and custom contents.
I won't try and guess the reason, but it seems to me they def left cause WotC is too hard to work with. Think about how WotC is. I bet it SUUUUUCKS working with those types of people. Also, all of Larian is White. WotC probably HAAATES that.

What got me hyped for Baldurs Gate is that it was finally something to fill the void left by Dragon Age. It's one of those cool cinematic RPGs, but with insane reactivity, combat and really just gameplay in general. I was already a fan of Larian, but I wasn't too hyped about BG3, since I dislike D&D as a system, but Larian really did it for me somehow.
They did what all game companies should do and now they're focussing on their next project. I went from being completely unaware of Larians existence to being super excited for another Divinity game thanks to BG3. I can't wait to see what they have in store.
I used too live close to Ghent and Oudenaarde (where Larian Studio was founded and their current main office is), hell i passed their office on my schoolbus, and met one of the developers at Larian during the development of one of the Divinity games at a friends place as a teenager. That guy (i forgot his name) was so passionate talking to me and my friend about how he absolutely loved DnD and the games they worked on. If that guy represents the whole Larian team I very much see that the stuff they make are pure passion projects and i 100% agree with their choice to quit while they are ahead. they love what they do and it shows in the results. forcing DLC or BG4 onto them would just drain them and most likely just end up making the resulting product suffer.
whenever bg3 comes up i still see plently of comments of people saying they played it although it was turn based, not because it was turn based. Or refuse to play it because it's turn based. So i wouldn't see it as success for the turn based genre, when it's not the genre that convinced people, but the presentation of the game. Swen himself showed his awareness of this, when he said how important cutscenes were for the success of bg3.
When I realized my cousin who doesn't really play games played BG3 I understood why it's so popular. She plays on the easiest difficulty and basically just plays it for the story and dressing up her characters. I don't think the game is popular at all because of the gameplay whatsoever, that's just why us "gamers" like it, but it sold like hotcakes and most of the people playing it aren't "gamers." Then you see the articles about the bear sex and other lgbt friendly stuff and you start to understand that the game hit that exact right spot of pandering just enough to the right people to get lots of media attention, create a great game that gamers would enjoy, and make a really interesting narrative that normies could get attached to.
As good of quality that BG3 was i dont blame them at all for wanting to show the world what they can do these days with their own IP and reap all the profits from it. Im glad they went this route
Because they made one of the best games of all time! They made it out of passion.. when you keep a series going the passion fades over time. We don’t need dlc like rdr2 doesn’t need dlc or a sequel Every gaming company should do this. Give us the best game they possibly can on release date then move on to the next thing
BG3 popped off because it's one of the best games ever created . Larian loves games and put that love into bg3 . Larian and From are the 🐐s . I will always pre-order their games just to show my support .
Honestly BG3 was my 1st experience with CRPG's and Larian. I went back and played Divinity original sin 1 and 2. I can say it's Larians "touch" that I fell in love with, not just the world of Baulder's Gate. I'm confident what ever they do next will capture me just the same.
Not sure why IGN felt the need to make a video months and months later. Swen was pretty open about why they were moving on. They want to work on their own IP and the team didn't feel like continuing to work on Baldur's Gate 3. They were going to make DLC and decided to stop because nobody wanted to do it. It's not some mystery.
There's always stuff left unsaid and that was what their media people trained them to say, as to not burn the bridges publicly. It's almost unheard of, having such a massive hit and immediately saying no further content will be provided & sold. You add WotC history and some stuff start to make sense. Them not wanting to leave money on the table and dedicating to their own IPs is probably close to 80% of the reasons, but some toxicity from WotC def happened. Also, massive blunder from WotC letting them go without a fight. It probably wasn't unanimously internally.
They said this a long time ago there was some issues with the IP holder so they seemingly canceled any DLC/xpacs in the hopper and alluded to moving on to divinity 3 which a lot of us are waiting for despite also liking bg3. So it’s sad but not THAT sad
What makes Lae'Zel so good, is that things she would get mad at you for in the beginning, slowly stop making her mad. And eventually, she likes it even. It really felt like you impacted her way of seeing the world. Her demeanor is just completely different by the end
She's racist, xenophobic, self important, egotistical. She threatens you with grave bodily harm multiple times for not bending to her moronic "orders". She insults you constantly. Regarding you as a slave. All culminating towards her sneaking up on you and holding a knife to your throat while spewing a self important monologue. Ended her immediately when that happened. She had no redeeming qualities before that point and was actively repulsive, physically and personality wise. If you're going to make a character like that with the intention of endearing them to the player at some later point then you need to at least give them some redeeming quality to make up for their sheer repulsiveness. No one in the party even acknowledged the corpse on the camp floor for the rest of the game.
The scene by the sunset is what made me realize she was 100% worth it. Through all of the fights (jesus christ she beat my ass) big revelations and questlines, Laezel carried me through all of it. Seeing her appreciate my presence at the end of it all made me fall for her completely
Been playing a second playthrough with the Paladin class. Ive immediately found new characters & areas I completely missed the first time. I’ve also just been playing more aggressive on tactician difficulty. For me personally I’d say it’s my front runner for game of the generation.
On a side note, Hasbro was the wedge that came between Larion and WotC. They're likely also the driving force behind the change in the D&D content pricing.
"It feels like you can't do anything wacky in video games anymore" Chill, its only been a year! (Also I'm pretty sure some people said it was bestiality at the time)
One studio that could potentially make BG4 in the future is Archetype Games. The studio was put together by BioWare veterans, and the studio head is James Ohlen, who has worked on many D&D games, including the og Baldur's Gates. And Wizards of the Coast is their parent company. That being said, Archetype has their hands full right now, making their first game, scifi rpg called Exodus.
If owl cat did a Bg that would be cool as long as it’s fully voice acted and all that good stuff. That’s my only gripe with rogue trader. Would love to see Larian do some 40k stuff
I also agree with it, part of the reasons I invested into the early access of BG3 was DOS2, not DnD. Never played any DnD campaign beforehand and couldn't care less, but now I'm interested in the DnD lore, because of larian.
@NeoN-PeoN I'd say it's a bit of both actually. Larian had a fanbase for sure, but the D&D connection has undoubtedly drawn the attention of many D&D players as well. Plus the fact that a lot of older gamers like me are big fans of BG 1&2 and where very excited for that reason (in addition to the others) when BG 3 was announced.
Larian was good, but never had AS HUGE as a fanbase as they got with making BG3. I don't even think they wanted to make BG3 because of being fans of DnD, but rather to bring in as many new fans as they could. I know they're all fans of DnD, but their games' rulesets were always better than DnD IMO, and they probably knew/know it.

I would have loved to see expansions - perhaps set in Neverwinter or Waterdeep. But, I get it, and respect Larian for (so far at least) always putting fans first and not doing things of they arent sure they can do it well. WotC and their constraints essentially made doing justice to an expansion very difficult.
Wizards of the Coast is in a very different direction compared to when they started this partnership with Larian. Based on a speech Vencke did, most of the people they delt with were fired from WotC. Considering that Hasbro is now on a tight grip, holding the company on a leash, I imagine Larian had an experience of this partnership getting sour and sour by the end of the project. They probably had more executive trying to push them into bad bud lucrative decisions than creative partners trying to do something unique as it was at first. 8:49 That guy in the left, he was THE lead designer of D&D 5e and one of the most passionate souls around. He was canceled when cancel culture were at its peak, and he was put aside by executives. That guy was a huge loss that D&D will never recover in this iteration.

I am excited that they are following their passion. They will make a lot of wonderful things if they prioritize passion over money, then the money will come. Love Larian!
They should do "A Song of Ice and Fire." Imagine being able to fly over Old Valyria at it's zenith, or exploring the cursed Shadowlands all the way to Stygai, or even sailing to Yeen or the Flesh Pits... Larian would do soooo good.
Good on Larian for knowing their worth and having a vision and staying true to it. I would genuinely love it, if and when ubisoft totally implodes, if somehow Larian got Rainbow Six and really got to lean in on a great campaign and then print money forever making a great team pvp.
Regardless of if anything comes next, I do hope this portion of the universe's timeline is left alone, so that players can rest easy knowing whatever ending they got for the characters and whatever canon they set for what happens to the characters left remains safe.
The game has enough to do. I beat my first playthrough this morning. It’s bittersweet to walk away but such an amazing experience. I’m not gonna do another playthrough. I played how I wanted and loved it.
The game's a freaking masterpiece as it is, I'm glad they're moving on. It has a few bugs and glitches of course, but that's expected for such a massive game, and all of them are pretty minor. Fully supporting Larian in whatever project they come up with!
As a huge Divinity fan, I can't wait to see what they cook for Divinity 3 with the ingredients they got from Baldurs Gate. Hoping they bring back the actors for the main cast.
16:22 I thought Steven Ogg’s story was that he got irritated after being approached in real life as if he acted like Trevor Phillips, and not as an actor that has been in other media
I am not even done with Act 2 and I can already say that this is one of the very few modern games I have played that leaves nothing to be desired. I really can't come up with anything they could put on a DLC that would substantially add anything to the experience, it is fantastic as it is. And let's also be honest, they have set the bar so unreasonably high that the best course of action is to let it rest, enjoy the success and take their sweet time with a different project
Just speaks to their passion. They put stupid amount of content and quality in BG3, that we completely understand. They respected us, we respect them 🫡
5:05 I'm not sure if that's the case when they do in-game testing, and they observe people getting lost and not knowing what to do with out the yellow or white paint. I also believe it could be a case by case basis
It 100% is case by case. Studios didn’t randomly start doing that. They started because people needed help, then people started expecting it. The only people who feel like it’s not needed are the people who specifically play games that don’t use it. If you’re not playing like Elden ring, you’re used to the hand hold stuff.
Damn, I really gotta pick it back up and try the new endings! No joke, I've heard they're a game-changer. It's wild how they've managed to keep the hype alive even after all this time. Can't wait to see what all the fuss is about!
I’m actually pretty sad with this news because Baldurs gate 3 was the only game I’ve played from the franchise and I really looked forward to seeing more from this universe. Larian achieved what few studios are able to nowadays and that’s garner the gamers adoration for their game. They made a good product and the gamers will be excited for their next one. WoTC is completely irrelevant when we’re speaking of a great product.
9:45 I heard they released the initial BG3 early access with a completely different UI and then changed it completely based on feedback from players. To me this is a stong argument for early access.
I think it has partly to do with the company that owns the rights to D&D. It might be that there has been some conflicts between Larian and the company that owns the rights to D&D atm. On the other hand with the cash that they made with BGS3 they can now do a product of their own which could potentially bring them a steady income withouth having to split the profits with anyone else. Having said that a fallout game made by Larian could be potentially pretty good.
Whoever WOTC taps to work on BG4? Good luck. BG1 and 2 were done by BioWare when they were early in their peak. Larian knocked it out of the park with BG3. The next guys have huge shoes to fill.
I get it. I had Lae'zel with me for my entire 1st playthrough but now i never bring her along anymore. I just personally do not like having her in my active party regardless if it's an evil or good playthrough. Just to clarify for those that don't play D&D, everything he talks about with D&D Beyond only affects that platform. You can still find everything free online (minus modules). I've been running a weekly homebrew campaign for 5 years and I don't own any books on D&D Beyond (and honestly I don't need to own them physically at all.) Don't take his $2000 quote seriously whatsoever. Unless you want everything and only want to use DnD Beyond.

IP of the product was a big factor in my showing interest for their product. Me, and millions of others. Product being amazing was great plus, but my main factor was - it is continuation from BG 1 and 2.
You nailed it: the problem with these companies is that they’re making games for casual gamers so they can make more sales, and turn out generic cookie cutter games more frequently for each new age group, but they’re using beloved IPs as the vehicle, and those IPs were not initially for casual gamers. It’s a slap to the face to those who supported them. Disgusting. The best thing they can do to rectify the situation is to sell all beloved IPs to companies who are dedicated fans of them, so they’ll use Devs to make it great and continue the journey. Idealistic, I know. But this situation is greed problem that can only be remedied by a moral solution.
I think Larian is in everyones watchlist now. With the experience they now have, they can probably make a better game, without any restrictions. I really hope they make another similar game, but in their own vision. I highly doubt D&D have a patent on rolling a dice and succeeding or failing at something.
Yep, I already knew WOTC would ruin things up. Damn to Hasbro too
I won't try and guess the reason, but it seems to me they def left cause WotC is too hard to work with. Think about how WotC is. I bet it SUUUUUCKS working with those types of people. Also, all of Larian is White. WotC probably HAAATES that.
@@tonyleo253 I think it's about the ruleset, that people are familiar with that they try to protect and Larian can't do anything about that in their next game
lets not talk bad about ex-es
it was important relationship, passionate
we learned to recognize red flags
parents did not like each other either
moving in together was never an option
time to move on to that hot red head number 3 we always talked about
It’s sad to see them leave, but honestly I’m so excited to see what they have in store for the future
Better quit while they are ahead...I don't want to see this stellar studio tainted by the virtue signalling corpo garbage. Which I'm sure wizards of the coast wanted to shove in
As they should, I'd rather they try something new rather than milk BG until it inevitably declines in quality
Well said.
What?
What got me hyped for Baldurs Gate is that it was finally something to fill the void left by Dragon Age. It's one of those cool cinematic RPGs, but with insane reactivity, combat and really just gameplay in general. I was already a fan of Larian, but I wasn't too hyped about BG3, since I dislike D&D as a system, but Larian really did it for me somehow.
this!
I would like to see them do things in Greyhawk
@@Arnsteel634 I heard they are doing a Sci-Fi project now which is great to hear
@@NoName-ym5zj anything from them is a buy
It went from "gamers don't like turn based anymore" to a smash hit and Goty winner, nobody expected that.
whenever bg3 comes up i still see plently of comments of people saying they played it although it was turn based, not because it was turn based. Or refuse to play it because it's turn based. So i wouldn't see it as success for the turn based genre, when it's not the genre that convinced people, but the presentation of the game. Swen himself showed his awareness of this, when he said how important cutscenes were for the success of bg3.
I don't think the majority of players even knew it had tb gameplay. They just wanted some bear mating action.
If Owlcat is going to make BG4, it’s going to be freakin awesome. Pathfinder games had so much cool awesome stuff
Owlcat will have big shoes to fill
As good of quality that BG3 was i dont blame them at all for wanting to show the world what they can do these days with their own IP and reap all the profits from it. Im glad they went this route
Because they made one of the best games of all time! They made it out of passion.. when you keep a series going the passion fades over time.
We don’t need dlc like rdr2 doesn’t need dlc or a sequel
Every gaming company should do this.
I'm confident what ever they do next will capture me just the same.
a Larian space sci fi game could be a lot of fun
Yea that’s what I’m waiting for. I’m not much a fan of fantasy settings but sci fi will have me sold
I would love something so epic that it can completely replace Star Wars for me. Or something that can replicate the impact Mass Effect had on me.
Their own take on Spelljammer (without the licence, obviously) would no doubt be absolutely phenomenal.
That is what they are working on right now...it has been hinted at.
im hard asf just thinking about it
Not sure why IGN felt the need to make a video months and months later.
Because they got negatively impacted over their recent “journalism” and they needed to entice the fans by talking about something that will get views.
They said this a long time ago there was some issues with the IP holder so they seemingly canceled any DLC/xpacs in the hopper and alluded to moving on to divinity 3 which a lot of us are waiting for despite also liking bg3. So it’s sad but not THAT sad
You play as dark urge feels like you play dlc already
Dark urge is perhaps the worst implementation of evil in RPG history.
@@threestars2164 is it an evil run though? I'd rather call it chaotic run
@@threestars2164this is the most exeggerated comment I’ve read in my life, rofl.
It also makes the game actually feel like a sequel to the first two games in a way that the default Tav story doesn’t
?? That sounds like every companion released by Bioware. Recycled character development.

I’ve also just been playing more aggressive on tactician difficulty.
For me personally I’d say it’s my front runner for game of the generation.
i hope for a original sin 3 or dragon knight saga remake or any game in that universe
Why Larian walked away well I actually think it is solely has to do with wizards of the coast wanting more money
On a side note, Hasbro was the wedge that came between Larion and WotC. They're likely also the driving force behind the change in the D&D content pricing.
I would love larian to do a "the expanse" game just like baldur's gate ... my god that would be absolutely brilliant
2:58 for me was the fact that this was a complete game with no micro transactions. I wanted to vote with my money and say “this how I want my games”
At my 6th play through the game still shows new stuff at every little part of the main story. best rpg ever created for me
If owl cat did a Bg that would be cool as long as it’s fully voice acted and all that good stuff. That’s my only gripe with rogue trader. Would love to see Larian do some 40k stuff
Without a doubt, imo, BG3 sold so well due to LARIANS reputation of making the best Turn-Base Strats. NOT from DnD clout.
@@Th1sUsernameIsNotTakenit usually take a few good and successful games before a studio gets mainstream success. Another great example is Elden Ring. Sure Fromsoft made some great gave before ER but it’s the game that put them on the map.
@@ryanvacation7319 acting Like Fromsoft hasn't been extremely successful and on the map is just being dishonest.
Dark Souls and Armored core already had them on the map.
DS 2 into bloodborne established that even further.
DS for it's time sold absurdly well around 2 mil, and DS2 went above 5 mil if IIRC.
Even if you want to say it wasn't until DS2 this became so, that's a decade ago. NOT because of ER lmao.
Agree with your vid, but younger gamers out there keep in mind back in the ‘90s each book (players handbook, monster manual, etc was 30$ each, which correcting for inflation is 60 bucks each today. And we still loved it! So I wouldn’t complain about 30$ sourcebooks today.
They have been working on the game for about 7 years. They're burned out, which is understandable.
“Leave them wanting more”. Players always want more content, but it’s almost always less enjoyable than you think it will be. Whereas a new game will be a whole new experience and may become your next beloved game. I’m so glad they are doing this. 👍🏻
I wonder is WOTC forced them to put all the idenity politics into the game as well.
@@misanthropicattackhelicopt4148 identity politics is the lesser of the problems. Actually, they are quite happy with people beating that scarecrow while they pass much worse business practices with much less noise and controversy.
I love that they aren't doing anything more, like of course I would love more stuff for BG3... but there are so few times where companies prioritize Passion and Artistry over money. I am excited that they are following their passion. They will make a lot of wonderful things if they prioritize passion over money, then the money will come. Love Larian!
I'm sorry to hear you're not a big fan of Lae'zel. She's my absolute favorite companion and character in the game.
The only thing a Belgian can genuinely be proud of: Larian studios. A national treasure.
It about time lol bg3 have more support then most lived sevice games in these year alone
Yes BG3 was in a large part a work of passion. And this make all the difference when you play it.
The clip that make me laugh the most in this game was definitely “Owlbear from the top rope” that was the funniest boss kill I saw.

They now have name recognition as a company. Moving on to create their own IP just makes business sense. Wish them luck!
Just speaks to their passion. They put stupid amount of content and quality in BG3, that we completely understand. They respected us, we respect them 🫡
While I'm saddened that I won't see a BG3 expansion that shows more of the city, I'm more excited about their new IP.
The fact that this game wont ever get a true sequel is just a crime. Smh
If they’re happy and don’t wanna add anything to it, feel it’s complete, it’s best to let it be.
We have loads of great mods with more to come. Let Larian cook with their new projects.
A dlc exploring avernus or a new game with new characters would have been really cool to see. Hopefully the modding community will expand bg3 for the next decade and create a dlc like fallout London
They made a masterpiece. Time to make another one
So many great TTRPG’s out there, I would love to to see a Mothership, Delta Green, Vaesen or Call of Cthulhu game.
Here;s hoping they'll do a BG3 style game for Warhammer 40k
Check out Rogue Trader from Owlcat. It's not quite Larian's style, but it's a great crpg nonetheless
@@Otinashi I really really enjoyed rogue trader! My only advice is don't go in expecting full cinematics and voiced lines. Owlcat are much smaller. But system wise and story ? Wow! I dare say I enjoyed combat even more than bg3
Here's hoping they actually make a new IP based on a world they created.
I would like to see a Larian CRPG in a sci-fi setting, whether it's licensed or original.
@@jcus006 RT's combat is definitely a lot more enjoyable than BG3, which stuck hard to DND 5e rules so it got annoying pretty fast. If anything, my gripe with RT is that it can be very convoluted when it comes to character customization (especially between buffs and abilities) if you're not familiar with CRPGs/RPGs in general.
To me no matter if the next project is BG4 or even the divinity series, I would still play, as long as it is obvious they put time and care into it.
BG3 not being worked on is a good thing imo. Patch 7 added alot and Larian has had their spotlight with the game. Time to move on and make more. Customers want the status quo, sometimes to their own detriment imo. We live in a game desert where your only choices are indie titles or battlepass microtransaction slop that has been around for a decade. Good on Larian, I say. Make more games. Further the artform. Improve and innovate!
The same reason why a band would not only record albums of the same theme in their entire career.
Larian achieved what few studios are able to nowadays and that’s garner the gamers adoration for their game. They made a good product and the gamers will be excited for their next one. WoTC is completely irrelevant when we’re speaking of a great product.
I really hope they do a sci-fi CRPG next, but honestly I’ll pick up whatever they end up putting out day one. They’ve totally earned my trust.
9:45 I heard they released the initial BG3 early access with a completely different UI and then changed it completely based on feedback from players. To me this is a stong argument for early access.
The original BG3 UI was from DoS2 as it was the same engine, just evolving and expanding in features from Divinity to Baldur's.
I love LaeZel 😂and that slick mouth. Zel is my go to but so is Karlach and Astarion. But also Shadowheart. I’m constantly trading out companions
Obsidian could certainly do another great BG. I love the BG3 and Divinity but the Pillars of Eternity games are my favorite crpgs of the last decade
I get it. I had Lae'zel with me for my entire 1st playthrough but now i never bring her along anymore. I just personally do not like having her in my active party regardless if it's an evil or good playthrough. The reason i keep her alive in camp it's because i like her voice acting, Devora Wilde did a great job regardless of my feelings for the character.
I know they are going to make something new of their own, but I'd still wish they can take a crack on remaking "Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura".
I would do anything for them to do Star Wars. My god it would be one for the ages.. I would do anything for that game
That and 40k. Maybe even a dune or LOTR game. If people see the studio name next to a property that big, people would go wild.
40k is too niche. Truth is Larian’s name next to any IP would be interesting.
Anyone that knows WoTC as a company: We already knew for like a year now.
Anyone that plays D&D: We've known why since 3.5
Anyone that plays Magic: *VIOLENT CONFUSED SCREECHING*
I could see Larian working with Hooded Horse.
they seem like perfect match.
Luke, MY MAN! You don’t need to spend $2000 on the D&D stuff, at the most you need to get the 3 core books, and then buy a campaign book or custom make your own with all the free stuff online. It’s far easier than people might think.
16:04 OMG THE BEAR! XD NOOOOOO! 😂
Edit: I gave laezel a chance on my first playthrough (haven't finished yet please for the love of mangos don't spoil it) and I am loving her story arc soooo much.
BG3 did not need a DLC in a traditional sense, but I would love for an update to add more companion content even if that would be a paid update. And by companion I of course mean Shadowheart. In fact, a steady stream of Shadowheart-focused updates to BG3 is the only live service I would ever pay for 😂
Larian working in a warhammer rpg 🙏
I hope they do something scifi related because I don't think they've done one of those yet, their own star wars, but like the prequels, like universe would be awesome
All I know is whatever Larian's next project is I'll be Pre-ordering it and I never pre-order anymore. They honestly deserve that.
I’m gonna save once sometime their heart wasn’t in it. They worked on it for so long that it wasn’t fun anymore and it didn’t feel like half asking dlc or a sequel because Leanne has integrity
The best part is that Baldur's Gate 3 could have been everything that it is, and no one would have batted an eye if not for bear sex.
If the Baldurs Gate license was in EAs hands, we'd already be on Baldurs gate 25
Just to clarify for those that don't play D&D, everything he talks about with D&D Beyond only affects that platform. You can still find everything free online (minus modules). I've been running a weekly homebrew campaign for 5 years and I don't own any books on D&D Beyond (and honestly I don't need to own them physically at all.)
Don't take his $2000 quote seriously whatsoever. Unless you want everything and only want to use DnD Beyond.
If you wanted to you could use the original D&D rules from the 70s too; D&D is pretty flexible.
btw, I Bought BG 3 not because I am Larian studios fan, but because I am a D&D fan. II am not sure Larian understands that.
People have access to the level assets now so I’m a few months we will have fan made mod DLC available anyway
The Rogue Trader devs would be dope just need to get the same level of voice acting and I think it could be done pretty well
I think Larian is in everyones watchlist now. With the experience they now have, they can probably make a better game, without any restrictions. I really hope they make another similar game, but in their own vision. I highly doubt D&D have a patent on rolling a dice and succeeding or failing at something. Take BG3 as a base idea, and start thinking how they want to do things differently.
I put off playing it until I finally convinced myself to continue past the first couple hours this week. I wanted to make sure my current interests aligned with it so i wouldn't get distracted. It's been 3 days and I've played almost 15 hours since. I'm just now getting out of the starting area
They gave us all we could ever hope for without diluting their product for a money grab. Good for them
