I just bought two of these for my son and myself. My son is 13 and neither of us has ever flown an RC plane. We both were flying these on beginner’s mode and they were quite easy to fly. After 3 minutes we looked like pros. Very fun and easy to learn on using the beginner’s mode. Love your videos.
I bought the "Rage RC" branded version of this plane. I've actually been flying smaller planes like this, with the biggest plane I tend to fly being the Voodoo P51; being able to take these small planes and fly them pretty much anywhere make them a MUST HAVE in any pilot's hangar. Thanks for the video Brian and family, you guys are the best...
Volantex now makes a 500 P-51 in 7.4V. Super nice plane. I only see it on aliexpress and one other site, but it is magnificent looking. Flies well, too. The paint/marking contrast makes it pretty easy to stay oriented visually.
I fly mine in expert mode all the time. It took me about three weeks of flying to get there. A few seconds at a time. Then it just clicked. I do lots of loops, rolls, Immelmans, and split-ses. Once you get calibrated to the roll and pitch rates it's fairly instinctive.
@BrianPhillipsRC Actually, once you figure out expert mode you'll appreciate not having the stabilizer. The thing reacts to what you make it do and starts to feel like an extension of your brain. Also, it's so light that if you crash it in the grass it really takes a lot to damage it. Go up high, turn it off, and just EEEEAAAAASE into some turns. Maybe do an Immelman (half loop upward with a half roll at the top). Get to where you can do three of those going up then do one Split-S back down. When you get squirrelly just flip back to gyro mode, regroup, and try again.
I have the T-28. It's my first 4CH plane. I've never used beginner, mostly fly on intermediate, and when conditions are calm enough expert works well once it's mechanically trimmed. My controller does not hold a trim. I lawn darted it repeatedly while attempting to trim it up and there was no damage. My son has the F4U which has better aileron and rudder authority, but is prone to tip stalling at low speed. I think that the Corsair and Trojan are the best fliers.
Great fun review. I've found this is 7g heavier than the version 1 at 54 grams. The 47g version 1 Red Tail also flies better in expert mode. But this has a clear canopy, and I replaced the flat 2D pilot with a 3D printed pilot that is painted now and looks awesome. I switch between modes, so do rolls in expert say, and then back to one of the other modes. I sometimes fly expert to challenge myself but these are much more twitchy than a larger plane. 4 beeps out of range, 2 beeps low power on these new V2 versions. V761 protocol I've been told. I put a phone number underneath my wings in case it goes over a fence (up to you). Great planes. I have 15 in my squadron. Low risk flying, just smiles all the way. Any chance you could do a 1500mm XFly Tasman? I've just bought one and find it a great aircraft for sure - would like to know your views.
@@BrianPhillipsRC I envy your bravery, I always hold myself back and don’t try anything risky 😊not that I don’t crash though 🤣 can’t wait to get the Volentex
My RC P51 flies unstable when gliding with engine off. How much weight did you add to the nose and where? My center of gravity is near the front 1/3 of the airfoil near the main spar, which I thought is common... 🤔
I didn't add weight. You're about right, as far as I can tell about your CG locaiton. I know there can be some disparity from model to model in this size class, as I've noticed, but if you err on the NOSE HEAVY side, you can just back it off, one dime or penny at a time, if you wish - that's how I WOULD do it, if I were doing it.
Be careful with doing 1 touch aerobatics in beginner. The plane will do 2 rolls in a row if you try to turn directly after performing a roll if you start your stunt on the first beep. When you press and hold the 1 touch stunt button, it will beep 4 times. I recommend giving a stunt command on the 3rd or 4th beep. I was showing off for my kids and avoiding my obstacles with precision until it started a 2nd roll instead of avoiding a tree. I hit a tree at full speed and all the plane needed was a spare prop. I love this plane and plan to get another.
Hello brother, I live in community Thailand. It's hard to find a place to fly, but I'll try to ride a motorcycle with an xk box. a160 goes further Your home is beautiful and has space for nature and good weather. May you be healthy .
I actually fly this more than my umx p51 and umx p47. Ive crashed my umx p51 and almost crashed my umx p47 because the dsmx would lose connection. It takes $80 to buy a new fuselage and tail to rebuild my p51. But the dsmx made me lose trust. While this is brushed, i paid $75 for mine and the sfshss protocol necer failed me. And compared to my umx i hit a tree and i was surprised, that not even the paint was messed up. If they made a pro version with brushless motor, its over for horizon.
As a Brit im born to hedge towards the spit, truth be told mine was a bit on the twitchy side , and the mustang is the first thing i fly in the spring to get my eye back in as its a nice gentle plane in the air.
Brian, cool plane -but any ideas as to why these manufacturers sometimes offer these with Futaba protocol, but never with DSMX so they can be used with a spektrum TX? It seems like they could sell more of these if they did. By selling a BNF, they could keep the price more competitive. I think these look ok, but having flown multiple UMX, and a couple of these "off" brands, I'd almost always consider throwing in a few more $$ for a UMX. But, if one of these cost say $90, and not $ 115 I'd maybe buy one. Thanks,
Hi there and thanks for the video. I got one myself and I have a question not able to find an answer in the manual: what does the 3 beeps in a row mean while flying? I understand low battery is 2 beeps.
I'm wondering if I lose the plane can I buy another in pnp model and use my old controller? I now have an extra one, but it's for the Corsair and doesn't work on my mustang, there's no binding button , is each controller only for a specific plane and worthless if the plane is MIA? or is there a procedure? The Corsair is fastest and is the most aerobatic of these minis, and 2 blade prop seems best
I can fly my eEachine (= Volantex) warbirds in Expert mode, without changing the CG, simply by applying full down trim before switching modes. The gyro offsets the down trim while in novice and Intermediate mode, so it still flies "normally". I think these models are trimmed to naturally climb, and the gyro just trims it back to level, in both gyro modes. Why would Volantex/Eachine do that? To find the answer, launch it with the full down trim setting that lets it fly OK with no gyro - but with the gyro on. You'll need to be quick on the elevator, because they want to dive into the ground UNTIL they are up to speed!!! Whereas in their "natural" up trimmed state, they climb away safely. Give it a try. My experience is based on Eachine P51 and T28. With the P51 I shortened the pushrod and have scary launches. With the T28 I use the down trim as described. I'm not a "gun pilot". Loops, rolls and cuban 8s. Thats it for me. But I have flown both models for the full 9 minutes, under control, with no gyro and standard CG. I started by adding nose weight to the P51. It didn't solve the problem. Then I gave the T28 to a much better pilot than myself. He discovered that full fown trim made it manageable.
I fly mine with a touch of nose up trim any way. That way if I get screwy I just go wings level and it will climb. On one of them I had to stretch the elevator pushrod at the bend ahead of the attachment point (the U-shaped bend) in order to get enough nose up authority. All of them so far have been just fine with the CG. A really fun plane in expert mode. Took a bit to get used to the rates but once I did it was off to the races.
Don't do that. Stretch or pinch the elevator pushrod at the U-shaped bend if your elevators are not able to reach neutral. Also trim nose down if needed until it flies the way you want.
I wanted to buy 2 for gifts with your link, with 3 bat. 102€ the piece wh free shipping from China) but on Bangood it ‘s 74 € free shipping from Eu warehouse. Sorry I like your vids though.😅

Anyone having problems with the battery compartment? Mine doesn’t have the little thing you plug the battery into isn’t their
It might be tucked up inside.
Also I recommend 450mah batteries from URGENEX. Comes with a neat little charger plug that lets you charge five at once.
Hi Brian, is it possible to add spektrum satellite rx on this?
Hi sorry to bother you but do you know if this model can be flown on mode 2 as my buddy flys mode 2 I'm mode 1 many thanks happy flying

As a Brit im born to hedge towards the spit, truth be told mine was a bit on the twitchy side , and the mustang is the first thing i fly in the spring to get my eye back in as its a nice gentle plane in the air.
The Mustang flies the best of all of them.

Beutifull plane, it has telemetry
is it worth adding a bit of weight I.e 1 or 2 gramms of blue tack towards the nose even if not using expert mode?
Not really. Weight is the enemy in these.
Try stretching your elevator push rod at the U-shaped bend.
Or pinch it for nose down.
You want to find the correct neutral position for each control surface/axis.

Low battery.
Low throttle.

Those seem to be the times I get beeps.
