i got the new m2 macbook air in midnight with 16gb ram and the upgraded 10core gpu, i fairly often use a windows 11 emulator to run solidworks and other programmes for my engineering degree, battery lasts 8/10 hours with some intense 3d modeling and its incredibly fast and smooth. i dont even bring the charger with me because it lasts so long, other students with windows laptops have to charge after a couple hours. it's crazy how efficient it is
Software engineer here, same machine, running dozen active tabs, softwares + servers + databases + 4k 120hz monitor, only 10% of cpu load, it's impossible to get all juice out of it, for you it's like driving ferrari with 5km per hour :D even the cheapest m1 base air model with 8gb ram would be more than enough for most of the people

great vid! I remember seeing my older sister's iBook when I was young and thought it was so cool. then later when I got into college I got my first laptop which was the 2006 MacBook prob. most of everyone in my art school was using that or the white or black MacBook. years after college I was on iMac after iMac, now I got the M1 MacBook Pro to replace my 06 MacBook Pro (which still works). time flies
I have one too but it has the white screen of death. I got a 2011 Macbook Pro logic board to put inside of it but I've been waiting 2 months to be able to do so
The original MacBook Pro was fundamentally a PowerBook G4 but with an Intel Core Duo chip system, an iSight webcam, a MagSafe power connection, and no built-in S-video out or modem. So it was a pretty good start. I also remember how the 1st-generation MacBook Air replacing the Intel GMA with an NVIDIA GeForce 9400M was seen as a big improvement by many, along with in early 2009 when it was added to the polycarbonate MacBook. (My first Intel Mac was actually a 2009 polycarbonate MacBook in that older form factor and the NVIDIA graphics; a great start for me!)
I had many, many MacBook and PowerBook models over time. I actually keep a iBook 14" early 05 model around. But my most recent jump was from a 2015 MBP 15" to a new 2021 MBP 16" (it was long overdue, felt that the touch bar and lack of ports was a gimmick in the 2016-20 models) and it's been an amazing laptop. I've owned several variations of the MacBook (normal/Pro/Air) and honestly previous to this 2021 model, the carryover style PowerBook G4 06-08 MacBook Pros were my favorite, and I feel that the 2021 is a bit nostalgic to that model, mostly in regards to the laptop's case with the rounded bottom edge and the flat edge around the display.
Good overview of mac portable history but I feel there’s a couple omissions that should have been mentioned: • You didn’t mention why the powerbook was so revolutionary. It was the first portable computer to have the tracking device below the keyboard which had the added benefit of a wrist rest. I think this trackball is hands down the biggest influence Apple has over the entire PC notebook market. More than Airport and more than the chicklet keyboard. • You didn’t mention the Powerbook G4. The first portable with a metal case! And thats when they started to get super fucking thin. You can trace todays Macbook Pro design back to the G4. I used to go to Macworld every year and have experienced only two jaw drop holy shit i can’t believe this thing is real moments: 1) seeing the first iPhone rotate in that cylindrical display and 2) Closing the lid on the Powerbook G4
I remember the time where steve jobs introduce the original MacBook air and steve jobs was proud of his creation and i like these nice videos and even before watching the video i can tell it will be a banger of a video
