@@TheBigTuna12 i bought the license for the game and am enjoying the hell out of it as a matter of fact i think dragon quest 3 is a very well done remake. look at the sales numbers this game is doing very well so their cant be that many people that dislike the game.
Dragon quest 3 is still to this day my favorite Dragon quest game. I played it before Final Fantasy, and it was only my 2nd RPG to Megami Tensei (Released as Revelations on Gameboy) I'm struggling with if I want to buy the game or not as I've been waiting for this for so long. I'm sick of games getting preachy, we used to have so many great propaganda style games that weren't so in your face preachy, the stories were rich and are still beloved. Metal Gear, Final Fantasy 7 being the 2 big ones that people like to point out when people incorrectly state we dont want politics in games. No we do want politics we want divisiveness, we want conflict, those are what make games good. But we need them well thought out, we need the stories and the game play to be the focus of the game and not the agenda or shoving a message down peoples throats or trying to score minuscule brownie points with virtue signaling, that just makes the game shallow as we've seen time and time again in all entertainment. Whatever is done, should have purpose to enhance the game experience. Thats not even covering the needless censorship. I can relate to the desire for a family, but i'm feeling like its too late in many aspects of my life, too much to fix, too little time.
If you're a fan of classic Dragon Quest games, this is something you should get. Don't let the politics surrounding the games get to you and you should treat the next few years as Yuji Horii's victory lap for Dragon Quest.
0:20 I don't see Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake as a conflict between the left and the right. Those who are fighting about the censorship and editing of Toriyama's work post mortem are mostly pushing lies to further their own agenda. Until Toyotarou says something about this, Bird Studio and by extension Toriyama, they have accepted it. Instead, I see this is the traditionalists who want a return to the turn based JRPGs of the old days of Square and the modernists who back the action RPG Final Fantasy that has come since the rebuilding of Final Fantasy XIV. Japan is already heavily backing this remake like they did with Dragon Quest Walk and Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince whereas they didn't support Dragon Quest Champions or Dragon Quest Treasures. The success of Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake will cement the fact that the audience was always there and rather it was that Square Enix that changed and abandoned their core audience. The question is whether they will accept this or attempt to make some kind of excuse about how exclusivity is the problem again. 3:15 Like I said, Japan is backing this game and they're the fans, not the westerners. It's the people who are invested into the culture war that are the problem. Much of the problem with Square Enix's internal review board that has sprouted up since CERO drastically shifted back in 2016. They've effectively become a secondary marketing team that's reviewing and making significant changes to all titles. What baffles me the most is this attempt to push Dragon Quest to be an E for Everyone game. But at the end of the day, Japan simply just doesn't care about this and they are the primary market. It's the western media who are always pushing absolutism and looking for something to fight and be angry about that are pushing this narrative. And if you want inclusion, this erasure of a lot of certain Mr Popo stereotypes Toriyama was known for and transformation into stuff like Hit should still be treated as a step forward. 6:15 This is also why this game is going to sell well despite how much the west wants it to fail. This is a turn based Dragon Quest remake and it's what Japan wants and this game selling well will be a message to Square Enix that this is what Japan wants. Dragon Quest is primarily a game for Japan and they don't care about any of this culture war. They care more about the fact that it's a remake of the first true Dragon Quest game. They're probably disappointed that it wasn't a remake of 5, but it also kind of makes sense why they chose 3 for their first one since it was the one with the earliest definitive features of the Dragon Quest franchise. And at the end of the day, it's what they want. What people out here in the rest of the world don't really matter because of how small of the market we are. They could just flat out cancel their international release and it might actually save them money in the long run. 7:00 This feels very much like the west trying to impose their own ideas and expectations to Japan. It's fine that the game isn't for everyone and that the main audience is Japanese. There shouldn't be any expectations to globalize. Black Myth: Wukong is very much a game for the Chinese who are already familiar with the story of Journey to the West and it just happened to gain western appeal as well. This should be the case for Dragon Quest and they shouldn't be making major changes to try to push it in the west. Doing so would likely make it no longer Dragon Quest, much like how the main Final Fantasy games are treated like spin offs in Japan nowadays.
Japan is trying to make sure their products aren't always bastardized. One of the creators of DQ literally despises censorship, and funny enough this modern censorship is not like the old censorship where people were upset about the way some characters looked. This happens to a lot of their products like YuGiOh, and much more. This modern censorship uses the "this is not how a woman should be represented". It's in a sense something that's always been there, but it's settled on a different perceptive
Please don't include the whole west with the crazy people of the USA lmao, we on Latin America don't care about all that, we just want good products that are fun
@@jesseritchie9282 Yep and that's why Japan actually has very little skin in this game regarding censorship. As much as they dislike it in the interview, it's not eliciting any significant response from them. It doesn't seem like it's something they're actually concerned about. Instead, this is something they've learned to work with and accepted. This is basically the bar they've set as acceptable for the developers, the publishers, and the consumers. It's the west that's blowing this out of proportion and dragging the late Akira Toriyama into this to try to prove their point that makes this all the more horrible. He doesn't deserve this. At this point, I just want Yuji Horii and Tetsuya Nomura to end their careers on a high note and not end up like Yoshinori Kitase or be treated like Hajime Tabata. Tabata deserved so much more, but holy crap did Naoki Yoshida treat him like garbage.
Gender wasn’t removed from the game, the only difference is when you’re selecting your character. Once you choose A or B, everything else in the game is gendered. You’re still called a he or she, a son or daughter, and gendered weapons and personalities still exist. Chill out and buy the game, it has genders.
Love the content as always congratz on the kids, for Physical I recommend fasting, I have kept the weight off for over a year now! was over 200 lb before I started, now at 160
While creators should be free to do that, this particular issue with the female warrior was Square's own doing as they lowered the age rating to E in an attempt to get more sales. Speaking of tourist, I feel like the loudest voices screaming over this minor changes are the true tourist. I don't know of a single DQ game since the series moved into 3d in which the female warrior in game model matched the original 1988 promotional art where the character's bare bottom and pelvis indent os exposed. They have used this model specifically in many DQ games and spin offs snd its always been changed slightly to cover up more .. Why the outrage now i wonder.
if all that is censored is adding some cloths to a character that is not a big deal to me. is the story the same if yes that is great are the battles the same these are the things that matter to me especially with dragon quest games. adding some cloths to a character or body type A and body type B does not set me off at all. does it make sense to do body type A and body type B no will i buy the game yes and i preordered the game a month ago on steam other games have done body type A and body type B with no backlash why are some people making it out too be a big deal. i want the game to succeed in the west so we get more dragon quest remakes.
My problem with the game is the ones who censored it are the same pieces of $#!+ who shat on Toriyama upon his death. And Squeenix lacked the insight to make any statement about it.
I really feel sorry for the developers, and I love JRPG's and the recent resurgence makes me feel like a kid in a candy store... that being said, I want to buy this game out of support for the developers and because it just feels like a classic. I just burned through Metaphor: Refantazio, and currently playing Romancing Saga 2, so I really really want this game and I dont want to sit around waiting for a directors cut 😕
The game looks good. But I ended up canceling my preorder because of denuvo and its EULA. Denuvo will eventually be removed. However the EULA will make the game like a rental (where they can yank the game out of my library). Thus I will wait til it’s about $10.

And now that the game is out the half-donkeying of this censorship and DEI compliance is on full display. When you choose your main character’s “appearance” at the beginning of the game. It says “Do you want to play as the HERO with appearance A or the HEROINE with appearance B.” And if you try to equip female exclusive equipment to an “Appearance A” character, the game tells you “This equipment can only be equipped by WOMEN”. And that’s not even going into the countless number of times other gendered words like king and queen appear in the game. The game can’t even be consistent with itself.

Excellent video, I wish that more people could have civil discussions about this issue. The problem is that you cannot engage with woke people without them screaming and hating since that is how they get their way. I hope that this madness ends soon.
Unfortunately, this is the result of outrage culture and it's not just the woke people. A lot of the people against the censorship have also been invoking Akira Toriyama's name despite the fact that he worked on this game alongside The Dark Prince and Dragon Quest XII before his passing. This won't end until Square Enix learns to ignore social media and focus on their core audience back in Japan.
Brian, I love diverse stories. Being whisked away on a journey about someone that I don't know sounds amazing. With that said... Most of the time it feels like lazy pandering. When done right its next level amazing, see Neir Automata. I thought it was about sexy robots, it in reality is about deep philosophy that touched me to the core. So in spite of all this nonsense, I bought bg3 for some friends and we're doing playthroughs of that and having a fantastic time while waiting for ff next patch.
100% when it isn’t inauthentic it’s wonderful but this is a good highlight of unauthentic, when the creators don’t want it, the players don’t want it. Yet here we are
If you want to minimize the grooming of children that's on you dude. This is the vote I have, so I'm going to use it, I'm sure I'll pick it up down the road.
Ok so the hysterical around the body type issue imo is silly in both directions. I don't think it needed to change, but it isn't a big deal either. No child is going to get confused over body types. They will see boy and girl. Body type isn't for them cause they won't care and choose whatever they want. I honestly don't think there was any complaints though, so why they did this, they most have been "one guy'd". This isn't on any group, just them silly cause they saw one guy on Twitter possibly saying something about choosing gender is bad. What I care about is stuff going on with the female warrior outfit change. SE made a dumb choice in lowering the age rating to E10 when the game should be teen. Censorship is dumb, but if your game originally was T eating, don't get surprised you have to cover up the more suggestive stuff to get a E10 rating. SE should have kept the T eating and a lot of the censorship goes away. Should a woman wearing bikini armor be marketed to a 10 year old? At the end of the day, a lot this is in SE being afraid of basically nothing and them deciding to market the game to a younger audience. The game director should be looking at SE more than at western audiences as it was SE who decided to target everyone and SE getting spooked by a handful of people saying gender choice is bad.
@@omensoffate Body types in gaming have been a thing for a bit now. No one complained when Elden Ring did it. Barely any complaints when other games did it. No one put a gun to his head to make this remake. If he was so offended by body types, he could have stepped away in protest if body types were that bad.
I actually think the 10 rating is more appropriate. my friends and I all played this when we were younger than 10 when it came out on gameboy. The developers know their game and art style is child-friendly and will be played by kids just like it was at every other release it has had.
Ain't no way y'all really mad about this. I love dragon quest. Always have. This will not change that for me. I don't care if the genders are replaced with types. Bro, I know what they mean. I'm intelligent enough to infer that. And the design alterations? Let's be real. The warrior was a naked woman with a plate armor bikini that did nothing for her. I love sexy women, but damn that fit was trash... And the priestess? Girl literally looked like Great Value Christian. I want fantasy religion in my fantasy game, not real world religion. While I value the original designs of Toriyama, these evolutions in design philosophy represent the way our society has evolved since this game first released. Some change is good and we shouldn't be afraid of that fact. Besides... it don't bother me. I'm a man who plays as male characters. I don't need some bitties to oggle in every second of gameplay.
Hope you enjoy the game but unfortunately I’m going to have to sit this one out. There is a reason why video games have started to insert politics into games and the answer is all focused on kids. Thats where I draw the line because like you, if your an adult I don’t have any issue but kids need to be protected from bad ideas and confusion while they are still developing
@@GingerPrimeGaming Yeah, I mean, I've never really been bothered by things more "targeted towards kids" or whatever. Pokemon is something I still play and enjoy to this day (even though the recent titles blow chunks), so I don't mind a more childish approach to design. I'm sorry to hear that a couple design tweaks are enough to make you sit out a dragon quest game. I hope you'll change your mind because I'm sure you'd enjoy it if you played it, if you're a dragon quest superfan like I am, but I'll respect your decision regardless.
The amount of people that are mad at this is shocking to me. They've added more content and quality of life features that weren't present in the original which is a win in my book. They could add every single Dragon Quest remastered into this one game with all extra content and these same people would still not buy it due to the female having more clothes in a 2D game. The 16-bit anime tiddies are really that powerful. I guess they can watch the rest of us having fun from the sidelines. It's not going to affect my enjoyment.
The only thing I take issue with in Yuji's interview is that they blame the American market for it's ridiculousness. I was like...what? How's that our fault? Is it our fault Japanese companies have historically and repeatedly misread the American market and sensitivities? They act as if we're some kind of complex puzzle that's difficult to solve...but we're not!!! We're simple AF! Make good games, do as little censoring as possible while staying true to the original creator's vision and keep ideological agendas out of it (unless of course it's someone tied to the narrative and plot). We didn't tell them to hire consulting firms like SBI to try to unravel the Western sensibilities. How's that our fault? They've misread the American market and then doubled down and hired SBI to further jack them along. That's on them, not us. Acting like we're complicated gamers in America....please.
I suggest you take a look at how the media and content creators have talked about Final Fantasy XVI. There's no misreading. The US gets disproportionately butt hurt about depictions of religion and sexuality compared to other countries. Even consumption of alcohol and tobacco is very inconsistent enforced. XVI also had fans of the new era of games openly criticize the fans of the older games and tell them that they weren't welcome anymore. You may not have told them to hire consulting firms like SBI, but you're part of the outrage culture that makes companies like SBI a necessity. That's why Square Enix was using Nintendo in the 1990s and Sony until they started working with Pole to Win. They've been using those companies since then
It’s that power that they bully these devs to fall in line. And being that gamers were buying it (but now aren’t) that only confirmed the message that they where getting from the media
same. i will not buy this. how can they justify changing Toriyama's art. i dont who the higher ups at square enix are listening too... but they really need to find better advice about selling their games to a world audience. Twitter is not the opinion of most gamers...
@@futureactuary101 They didn't change Toriyama's art. Toriyama did in 2020 when he was working on this game along side The Dark Prince. The final version was something that was a compromise between Bird Productions, Square Enix, and CERO. Twitter isn't the opinion of most gamers and neither is this site or a certain r slash board. The only opinions who matter in this case aren't even posting here. They're on the opposite side of the Pacific in Japan because that's the primary audience of Dragon Quest. The fact that people are already trying to speak on Toriyama's behalf to put words into his mouth is already disgusting. If he did have something to say about it, Toyotaro would've spoken up about it long ago. Instead, everyone here is invoking his name to push their own agenda.

I just subscribed to your channel. Thank you for the encouragement and I agree, videogames DO need to bring the messages back to the center as they used to be.
The censorship of DQ3 remake approximates to about 12 more pixels of clothing on the sprites and more character build options than before when gear and personalities aren't tied to gender. And that's literally it. Yet people are acting like this is the greatest offender to humanity because their favorite grifter youtuber told them to act that way. Because we live in an age where whining and bitching is all there is to video game discussions. It's like people get joy out of being angry. Everything about this is blown way out of proportion and absolutely none of this will be remembered after the game launches and the grifters move on to their next target. And the fools will follow them and get angry about the next thing they're told to get angry about. And nothing will change. Man, I'm just tired. The game looks amazing, but people aren't seeing the forest for the trees. I lost a lot of respect for you because of this video. The irony of the things you say and then claiming you want a good faith discussion. You are repeating one side's hyperbolic views and then pretend to "reach across the isle". A grifter in a sea of grifters, then.
My ideal scenario would be to have a day one update that alters sprites to remove the despised changes brought on by the demands and return to how they were actually supposed to be.
Most people are completely unaware of the situation surrounding Dragon Quest and Square Enix as a whole because they want to follow the narrative that their favorite content creators have crafted for them. This censorship began almost 8 years ago and if you don't count the mobile games, this is the fifth game to be censored. If you do count mobile, this is at least the eleventh. This is how little people actually care about this censorship. It took them almost a decade and a dozen games to notice. To make matters worse, they didn't say anything until Akira Toriyama passed so that they could invoke his name after his passing as if he didn't sign off on this back in 2020 and his work for Dragon Quest XII doesn't exist while ignoring the fact that he handed over Dragon Ball to Toyotaro as of the Tournament of Power. DQ3 remake is going to do amazing in Japan and it deserves to. And the whole time, the west is going to be confused as to why it succeeded and blame it on everything else like exclusivity. In reality, the problem was that Square Enix stopped making JRPGs.
Gamer first, Yes it does suck but I love video games and enjoy a good jrpg. I will be picking up Dragon Quest 3. Don't get me wrong social media gaming. No matter what you do you will always upset a group of people. The question is, which one group will be more upset? This reminds me of Hogwarts' legacy, that game alone divided sides, due to its creator. But she had no voice or input on that game. Even with the new PlayStation-exclusive Ghost of Yotei, many are upset because they have to play as a female. Crazy huh. I feel this age where companies & corporations are more greedy than ever and people are more sensitive. Gaming was fun to play with people now I don't know anymore.
The vocal people on social media and gaming journalists will always be the loudest, but it doesn't mean they're right. The ones who you should be paying attention to are the fans who do support your games because they're the ones keeping you afloat and allowing you to continue what you're doing. This is proven by games like No Man's Sky and even the recently released The Dark Prince. But if you just listen to the loudest, you get modern Final Fantasy where the core audience has basically abandoned it and the people who were complaining aren't even buying the product.
@@GArvelo the problem is that they trying to push these political agendas into the gaming culture and its wrong. You let them in and they are all over you. It will never stop. They are deliberately trying to come up with new problems and are then bent on selling the solution. Don't support them. It will ruin gaming and it will be even worse than what already is.. Pirate the game if you really want to.

Sanitizing and Purifying for the sake of Censorship is something I would have expected out of the Religions Right back in the 90s (remember the Harry Potter BS). This is a puritanical movement that MUST be opposed at all costs, even if it destroys the industry in the process this can NOT be allowed to be normalized. If this becomes normalized this WILL just get even worse.
This is your crusade? I am sorry for you.
@@daniellion5291 Save your pity for someone who cares? Maybe the soon to be unemployed devs, they need someone on their side lmao.

@@Xcalibur_54 I agree some people are overreacting and I hope those people are not the majority of the people that would buy the remake.

@@TheBigTuna12 i bought the license for the game and am enjoying the hell out of it as a matter of fact i think dragon quest 3 is a very well done remake. look at the sales numbers this game is doing very well so their cant be that many people that dislike the game.

Not a new phenomenon, the promotional material was also censored back when the game rereleased on the gbc
Dragon quest 3 is still to this day my favorite Dragon quest game. I played it before Final Fantasy, and it was only my 2nd RPG to Megami Tensei (Released as Revelations on Gameboy)
I'm struggling with if I want to buy the game or not as I've been waiting for this for so long.
I can't afford kids, I can't afford a wife, I can't even afford a girlfriend. Once you black pill it's not so bad.

And if you try to equip female exclusive equipment to an “Appearance A” character, the game tells you “This equipment can only be equipped by WOMEN”.

It is a big deal because it’s not an option. It’s forced.

I actually think the 10 rating is more appropriate. my friends and I all played this when we were younger than 10 when it came out on gameboy. The developers know their game and art style is child-friendly and will be played by kids just like it was at every other release it has had.

The fact that people are already trying to speak on Toriyama's behalf to put words into his mouth is already disgusting. If he did have something to say about it, Toyotaro would've spoken up about it long ago. Instead, everyone here is invoking his name to push their own agenda.

My dude you have a ff7 profile picture. Very left wing game.
God bless you dude I hope you wake up soon

Im sad I wont be playing this game because the devolpers decided to open their mouthes and give power to this stupid idea of censorship and then in the same breath insult my country. I have canceled my FF14 sub and will not go back and I am done buying anymore of their games because of it. They should of shut up and shilled their game. They want to shit on someone it should be their bosses who made the decision to release this game in regions where they might need content to not be racy. Instead the perverted nerds who cant imagine shes running around with her kitty out have to stir shit up.
Did you say "self deleting"? WTF is that? Suicide or deleting your social media? I'm confused. If you arent about needless censorship say the word. Geez.
It’s susicide and what I’m doing isn’t censoring it’s just how I speak
@@GingerPrimeGaming you have a great channel. much respect. great videos. thank you.
I do blame America, but for the gender choice I have no real issue tbh
Like you cared about the series Ginger😒
I’ve played every single one
And I usually buy multiple copies and different platforms for support. I own 3 copies of DQ11 for example
@@GingerPrimeGaming you’ve only played the Erdrick trilogy, DQIV and DQXI. Don’t BS me dude.
@@GingerPrimeGaming oh really? But most DQ games outside of the Erdrick Trilogy only had two platforms not 3. And DQIX is stuck in one platform which is the DS.
I’m calling out your BS you’re not a real fan, you’re just here to grift for views considering you have low views despite your subscriber count
@@GingerPrimeGamingyou’re vague response of playing all of them just screams to me “ im not a fan but I’m gonna lie and pretend that i am a fan so that i can counter this person who calls out your BS”.
Admit you’re not a real fan and you never cared about the series only for grifting/political in return for views.
Noped out when I saw the message insert. Would like to play it but I won't support the message because who it targets as villain and as convert.
Grown man doesn't buy game because of text.
Professionally upset? Kettle meet black.
This evil needs to stop. I love this series but at this point it isn't the same series anymore anyway. Especially if we allow this now it will stray further in the future. Let them learn. Let it wither away if needed.
So you mean, we should boycott the game so that no more DQ games come to the West. That's nonsense
@@gardevoirtraunmagil3881 If that's what it takes yes. Playing censored games isn't the solution.
The wokeness in gaming and what Nintendo is trying to do to palworld. Suing over a gaming mechanic.
I've seen many hills that people fight from, but this is just ridiculous. lol
To summarize the video: Dude complains more than the people he's complaining about.
A person that thinks that people fighting woke ideology are radical right... just asked youtube to never recommend your channel again.
I don't buy woke games and also, I am blocking your channel.
Weird comment but ok. 👌
wait so you still ahve male and female but you're upset because it doesn't say boy and girl? this is a nothing burger
No that’s not the issue one bet
I wont be buying it.
I can't take anyone seriously who thinks body types in games as a stand in for gender is somehow political targeting of kids. I'd prefer just male, female, an nonbinary options for those who want them but it is legitimately hilarious that people think children are being indoctrinated by body rype options. If a kid can handle video game violence and occasionally adult humor they can handle a body type.
I mean the female warrior is dressed in an incredibly sexual manner and the female jester or gadabout I think it's called now days is literally a playboy bunny.
They themselves have said they are coming for the kids you don’t need to believe it but that doesn’t change it. There is a reason why they’ve been seeding this stuff into so much media that targets children and I’ll continue to educate parents on the danger of this ideology
was gonna buy it... gonna buy a non-woke game instead
Which games are not woke?
@@gardevoirtraunmagil3881Archaelund is a non-woke RPG, good replacement for DQ.
Good luck, you'll find a video calling everything woke these days. From Silent Hill 2 to Sonic x Shadow to Metaphor
Based take- sub!
Thanks dude, welcome in.
I can't wait to roast this woke stuff as a rising celebrity lmfao.
I don't understand why it's such a big deal. Who cares. Can't believe you opened the video with that. Wouldn't have even known it was a thing if it weren't for grown men wringing their hands over this. I hit stop and I asked youtube to nit rec this channel again. Your politics belong in your head. This is useless.
