    The third-ever #BMWM M5 Touring is here! Yes it’s 2550KG, but I’m tired of focusing on that. Would we have preferred a 4 cylinder hybrid or a PURE EV?! Hell no. And the days of the pure ICE super wagon are gone, so instead we get this. A rare V8 wagon in 2024, try to find one somewhere else! And also a long-awaited return of #BMW’s performance estate, especially to the USA where the M5 Touring is finally coming!
    The G99 #BMWM5 Touring boasts a completely unique body, wider at the front and rear giving it some serious road presence. But the big news isn’t the stunning design - it’s that hybrid powertrain.
    Today, we’re breaking down all the details: how BMW M transformed the standard 5er into a true super wagon. From its hybrid V8 setup to its interior upgrades, chassis tech, and design, we’ll cover everything you need to know, including how the Touring compares to the M3 Touring sibling, which is a more important topic than ever before I feel!
    BMW M fans have long waited for a new M5 Touring, and this G99 marks the return of an icon. The first-ever M5 Touring, the E34, debuted with 335HP and sub-6-second 0-60mph performance. It was a true sleeper but struggled with sales. The E39 skipped the Touring format entirely, but the E60 brought it back with its screaming V10 engine and aggressive looks. Now, after skipping another generation, BMW M has given us the most advanced M5 Touring yet, and it’s finally coming to the USA!
    The G99 M5 Touring combines a 585HP V8 engine with a 142HP electric motor for a total output of 727HP and 1,000NM of torque. It sprints from 0-60mph in just 3.5 seconds and reaches a top speed of 189mph (305km/h). We test it to launch control as fast as the sedan however!
    The benefit of the hybrid system however, is a 18.6kWh usable battery, which delivers a range of 67-69km (42-43 miles). This we found to be accurate, and adds a different layer to ownership vs something like the M3.
    The interior is class leading, and easily a level about the 3 series and rivals. We will check it out, along with the boot space available, and the exhaust sound of the V8.
    BUT - The M5 Touring weighs 2,550kg, 540kg heavier than the previous model. Yes it has M’s Adaptive suspension, tonnes of rigidity measures, chassis tech, XDrive with the famed M differential - but can it negate that weight?? And how does it stack up to the Sedan? Let’s find out in this full review!

    Let’s be real, 80% of the people complaining about the weight are not in a position to buy one and even if they did, most of their driving will hardly be pushing it like crazy where a lighter car would help, better yet they’ll probably do silly things with it. Plus if every enthusiast were so particular over lightness, we’d all be driving Lotuses, MX-5, GT86/GR86. There’d be no GTRs, M5, M3, E63 around at all. People just want to fell like they fit in to the community because they say the same things as Chris Harris or other journalists and influencers say.

      yes you have a car of 2000's. Still red calipers still red stiches still old looks... front? When looking at the mirror i cant even understand which audi it is. it can be a Audi A1 or A8 or RS7 all looks almost same from the front. Get a M8 Grancoupe or RS7 or GT 4door they all have huge sotrage + 18 times better looks. i had a 635 hp Brabus GLE63s the feeling of speed was like a 240 260 hp porsche. Will never get any FAST wagoon/suv again. Yes its a iconic car but todays cars are larger and closer to the wagoons storage. and even if i need that much cargo space every day then i wont need a 700 hp. Not good at anything. i can sleep in my M8 Grancoupe s back (with a girl)

      @ not sure what you are talking about? My RS6 is a 2024 model and apart from the minor exterior differences it shares the absolute same specs with the RS7 and consequently does the same times on the track. Both the RS6/RS7 Performance smoked the M8 Gran Coupe and AMG GT63. There are several videos on RUclips for comparison. I prefer the looks of a wagon and would take it any day over a sedan/limousine. But that’s up for personal preference. No idea though why you mention SUVs in the mix that have absolutely nothing to do with the performance of an RS6/RS7.

    THE STATION WAGON IS ALIVE! And I am glad it is. I absolutely love this new BMW crossover, although to me, who grew up as a young kid in the late 60's and 70's, whose parents had a Ford Country Squire Station Wagon with a big V8 motor in it, it's a STATION WAGON! The station wagon was a vehicle that many families had back then, It was the SUV of the 50's, 60's, and 70's. Long before the name "SUV" was ever even thought of. Big, huge, boxy station wagon, gas hogs that could seat 9 persons with ease. And the most fun for a kid was to sit in the farthest seat back, which actually sat BACKWARDS facing towards the car behind you. It was fun. You would wave at people behind you and play "slug bug" with your friends and siblings. A much better time in America than today when 99% of the citizens got along great with each other, not this division we have in society today. And nobody cared about gas mileage back then because the big huge station wagons of yesteryear would only get about 10 miles to the gallon (if you were lucky!). But gas was cheap and nobody cared! The highways and byways of America were FILLED with these big giant station wagons back in the day. I can literally remember when we would pile ten or eleven people into my friends parents' big Chevrolet nine passenger station wagon with bench seats in row one and two and you could squeeze eight people in the front and back seat, and then another two or three (if you SQUEEZED in) in the rear facing tiny back seat, which was really designed for little kids, but we would squeeze people back there. It got ten or eleven friends to the mall, movies, the beach (I lived near the beach), or wherever you wanted to go. And gosh only knows how we didnt all get hurt. Nobody wore seatbelts back then. Nobody. In fact, my VW I drove to school didn't even have them in the vehicle at all! Crazy to think about now days. Seat belt laws didn't come about until the 1980's. I absolutely love this new BMW! Put me on the list for one of these bad boys. A direct competitor to the Audi RS6! COOL. I actually saw a new Buick wagon the other day and it looked great! I'm sure Buick calls it a "crossover" or whatever. It's a station wagon, just on a much smaller scale than they were back in the 70's. MUCH smaller. A station wagon back in the 70's would make a Chevrolet Suburban look like a Chevrolet Spark! LOL. They were cars on a scale that young people today can't imagine. Most young people today have never seen one of those huge ghostbusters sized station wagons which FILLED the roads of the 1960's, 70's, and 80's. They were everywhere. Hell, my Aunt had a giant Mercury Marquis back in 74 that was longer than a UPS truck is today! And it was a 4 door luxury car. Cars were absolutely MASSIVE back then. MASSIVE by today's standards. And VANS covered the highways too! Not these little mini-vans, I am talking about huge, full sized, extended length, VANS that could haul 20+ people in the models with several bench seats. Large families back then had one or the other. A huge station wagon, or a huge van. They were the SUV's back in the day. Again, no one had ever even heard of the word SUV. And vehicles were giant METAL vehicles, not these plastic things we drive now days. And not one "driver assistance" aid on the vehicle at all. We were happy we had an AM/FM radio, let alone all these electronics and driver assistance aids we have on our vehicles today. Granted, I love all the tech on our new cars, but back in the day, you were lucky to have heat in your vehicle! Basic model, meant, you got steering wheel, AND NOTHING ELSE! You had to buy a big luxury car like a Cadillac or Lincoln to get all the fancy stuff included and most of it was "options" you paid extra for! I can't wait until this vehicle comes to America. Put me on the list. I would love to have one of these incredible machines! V8 twin turbo and hybrid technology too! Yes sir. Thank you BMW for bringing this here to the USA. No doubt you will sell more of these vehicles here in America than anywhere else in the whole world! America loves vehicles like these.

    This was the most reasonable and well rounded take on the new M5 saloon/wagon. You don’t want a V4 nor do you want a V6, you get to keep a V8 in a storm of regulations and manufacturer cut backs and trending EV only options.
    Plus the usability explained and practicality of gas usage no matter how you cut it, simply highlights the genius of this offering from BMW. Tough spot to be in and they still churned out quality. Any other review fails to highlight the points made here.

    Lets be honest, no one who buys this is going to care about the weight bc they have more fun track focused cars in the garage... this car is meant to be the perfect daily city cruiser and highway crusher. With all the space and ability to go in just EV mode, its also more practical than its competition. For what its meant to be, this car is best in class imo.

    For me its great car, dont care about weight. Waiting a bit until they will present competition ( im sure they will ) and i will then think about it. My main concern is 550e that it might me enough for me and its much cheeper but damn this look of M5 like angry tank heading for war....

    Weighs the same as my X5. Dash overly complex & that light up grill should be on barbies jeep . Plus the 4 wheel drive system on bmw is no quattro had issues with the X5. Still all that said in that yellow I might call in to my local dealership for a test drive in my C8 to see how it compares back to back. 😉

    Looks great and is surely great too. I wouldn't mind a hybrid either, but the problem for me is the plug-in hybrid. I have to refuel gas and charge electricity - so both.
    That's complete nonsense. Either gasoline, mild hybrid or fully electric. But not both in one...

    Why on earth are the guages blurred out? What could possibly be in there that you wouldn’t want us to see? A reflection? Or the fact that when you say you are going fast it’s merely a ruse. I know that car has a lot of power but BMW is good at marketing, and I almost believe that that is the reason for the blurred out dash.

    Porsche 911 GTS made hybrid without stupid plug in system and without penalty weight so it can be done. It would be more expensive but people who buy those cars would pay extra. BMW went easy way because current board simply don’t care.

    • @Cars-k8e
      @Cars-k8e 2 месяца назад

      Would the same hybrid as Porsche uses on its 911 help that much with the emissions? I am sure it won’t and BMW gives a figure of less than 2 liters per 100km, means this stupid plug in hybrid system makes a lot of sense. Because of this plug in hybrid system BMW will probably sell double as much M5s as they did with the previous model… it’s a huge advantage for tax in Germany and Austria. So I am honestly super happy they built it this way. It saves me 60.000€ compared to a non plug in hybrid

    • @pevvex4452
      @pevvex4452 2 месяца назад

      @ you are missing your point. This car is pointless. You pay for a hybrid system which makes car heavier and much slower. They tell us battery will give you extra power to make it up for weight penalty. When you use the car every day it’s a lie because you don’t have the battery when you need it. You can’t use the whole hybrid because the battery is always discharged. So you end up driving 2.5 tons V8 using in fact only V8 because the battery is always off. So you paid less money for more but in fact you have less car for less money. I had a chance to drive it and it was terrible experience and I guess you have to try yourself to understand what I mean.

    • @Cars-k8e
      @Cars-k8e 2 месяца назад +1

      @ I drove it and I liked it. why would the battery be always empty?
      It’s a perfect daily driver. I can’t tell a difference between a 3.0 or 3.5 sec from 0-100 to be honest. The plug in hybrid makes it 60.000€ cheaper than the previous M5

    • @pevvex4452
      @pevvex4452 2 месяца назад

      @ honestly the weight doesn’t matter for every day driving but the battery is never charged enough to use it. It’s never more than 20% charged and it’s never enough time drive in electric mode for few km.

    • @Cars-k8e
      @Cars-k8e 2 месяца назад +1

  • @johnmuzic3475

    Since this is doing 0 to 60mph in 3.19 on wet slippery uk roads with the much more restrictive exhaust system...I think that here in the Southeast USA with good quality BP premium gas on a nice cool dry day down here, the 0 to 60mph time for this should be easily 2.9 sec....people down here have already gotten 2.5 sec. dead stock on pump normal gas with the new M5 sedan....with a good ECU and TCU tune which should cost around $2,000 more, the word from tuners is that they'll get you an extra 250hp and 250 lb/ft of torque, which would put you at around 970+ hp very conservatively even for the more restrictive UK car and the - to 60MPH time its said will drop to 2.2 sec. with dry weather and good PZero tires...so with additional full bolt on mods like downpipes/mid pipes/full race exhaust and running on VP109 race gas or ethanol and a proper race gas ecu tune, it should produce 1350hp the tuners are saying and should drop the 0 to 60MPH time to a Sapphire equaling 1.8 sec and the 1/4 mile times would be about 9 sec. flat...once again that would be for this M5 with full bolt on mods and full exhaust and ECU/TCU tune running on race gas or ethanol...but no internal engine modifications at all...that is just insane...now imagine when the tuners inevitably drop in much larger aftermarket turbo's and hotter camshafts, forged stronger engine and transmission internals, hugely upgraded cooling/heat exchangers and methane injection/ice box to keep it all cold....then they're sayiing it'll make up over 1800hp with full boost and ethanol or 109 octane gas...and since those upgrades will only make the car lighter and stronger and breathe better, it shouldn't hurt the car at all...this car is so much cheaper to buy than a Panamera Turbo S e-hybrid or AMG 63s e hybrid, even dropping in 60k worth of aftermarket upgrades to get to 1750hp would be worth it....people here in the USA love aftermarket upgrades and it will be done to some of them for sure...
