Fact: Super Wagons are cool. So we all wanted an #M3Touring ever since they made that E46 concept car. And on the 50th anniversary of #BMWM they fulfilled our desires: but should we actually have asked for it? This appears on paper, a car compromised - with a whopping 85kg extra weight due to because of going touring, no carbon roof, Slower to 60… and a face many still aren’t happy with.
But in my expedience, what’s on paper doesn’t mean sh*t in reality. #BMW M have allegedly pulled a rabbit out the hat with this one and we’re gonna find out together on a first drive today - where I’ll compare it to the other M3 and M4 variants, the CSL, And most crucially - the new C63 hybrid. Let’s see if the M3 touring is worth the hype!
This car has come in a generation where, not everyone is happy with the M3. Particularly its face - but reviewers like myself, love it for its dynamic and emotional prowess. The M3 Touring comes in Competition XDrive only, meaning AWD and paired to the 8 Speed torque convertor box. And the most powerful normal M3 too (more on CS later) with the S58 engine making 510 BHP and 650NMs. The Xdrive is the clever one from M5, so switchable drift mode. More crucially, means car feels more RWD most of the time.
So a heart basis, but the touring body however, adds complications. the body in white NEEDS extra bracing for the rear structure and it also needs a unique rear axle subframe. All of this to make the car as close to the Sedan as possible. The glass and rear structure adds additional weight - thus adding 85KG to the car, and slowing the 0-60 to 3.7 seconds… So it makes the car less dynamic, and not as fast…. Or does it?! We will see.
The design is epic: Just the doors shared with a standard 3 series. Your eyes drawn instead to the massive front arches, and all new rear end! Giving this car bulk that the C63 doesn’t have. Speaking of C63S E Performance, what does this drive like compare to that wagon? I’ll try and fill you in!
We will also talk about the Future - will they make an M3 CS Touring? They better! And is this the only M Perf wagon? Rumour has it, the M5 hybrid might also gain a touring version!

as a c63 owner. The next gen c63 is trash. To edit this I brought C63 edition 1 with every single option when they lunched. The car cost almost 130000 dollars plus tax. The only reason I bought this not other is because the V8 sound.
Same here. I suspect the new one is a 75,000 miles and throw it away.
Imagine how much crazy tech AMG needs to put inside of the new C63s with a small 4 cylinder. It will be very costly to maintain in the long run.
But no one can deny the power figures. Personally I pick raw power over everything so I don’t mind it

I'm not really into wagons but man I've been a huge fan of the M3 since it came out, absolutely stunning, and insane road presence
For 27 years I only owned BMW cars... Gap between "ultimate driving machine" and the rest has been shrinking this whole time, but it is still there so I am going to keep buying BMW.

@@MrCathal09 Sure.. My first one and the first car I bought was 320i e30 (1996). 1999 I bought 325i e36. 2001 I bought e46 320d, two years later I got one year old e46 M3. Drove it till 2007 when I bought 325i e92 (new). I got my first kid in 2009 so I sold it and bought e91 320d and we traded my wife's A3 2.0tdi for e87 118d. 2012 I sold my car and bought f10. Drove it till 2017 when I bought f31 320d and I still have it to this day (124 000 miles), only my wife drives it now. We sold her e87 2014, when I got company car (Merceses C klass), and after that I had another C klas as a company car. Now I drive BMW X3 (G01), 18 months old 30i (it is a company car), so I didn't buy it same as Mercedes. We plan on keeping f31 for another year or two and then go for petrol 1 series... That is my whole BMW history. Drove other cars as well (friends, family, rental...), but I only spent my own money on BMW.

Personally I think it’s very close to perfection wound of loved a touch more power to compensate for the extra kgs.... but looks stunning even the front seems to look softer in the wagon I know it’s the same lol the rear is amazing the interior is stunning

With you all the way Raz. I have a C63 Black Series and a C63s Final Edition and I would swerve the new C63s for this M3 Wagon. It looks the part and I understand it drives the part also. As always would be good to meet up at some point. I have yet to transform my C63 Black Series but plan to do it sometime soon.
Very nice wagon. I’m looking at picking up a F80 M3 2017 or a 2017 C63 wagon. What ever way I go, I just want to keep it for the occasional spin. I love the M3 but the 4.0 V8 is tugging at my heart strings.

But the rear door is the regular version so there is an abrupt bulge when the rear door transitions into the rear fenders? Am I seeing this right?

1 thing i dislike is the smaller diameter front wheels. Other then that i love it.
Just bummed I probably won't even see one in person being in the US. I know we have the better-sounding M and AMG cars without those OPF filters but hate that we don't get some of the niche cars like the M3 Touring.
I own a X4M Competition in the UK. Watching videos of it in the States brings a tear to my eye. Unfortunately, I can't justify paying the money to make it sound like it was meant to. I love the car, but it sounds like dog shit. My 2001 Volkwagon Golf V6 4motion sounded better than my 2022 M car🤦♂️

The front end looks good on the wagon.
Great car I was potentially considering him as my daily but.... it has to small fuel tank, 59ltrs when during test drives I was not so furious and he was showing average consumption 15ltrs/100.
It is funny that every shot taking from outside you are diving so slow but every shot taking inside of the car you are driving very fast.

Too bad we will not get it in the US. Is the steering feel on this any better than on the M4? The M4 felt very artificial and didn't really offer much road feel but I hear you say you like the road feel on this one.
You will get the M5 wagon
BMW digital dashboard 🖥️ is super crisp, clear, and nice and large. The problem is it’s NOT seamlessly integrated into the dashboard as it should be, it sharply 🔳 jets out too much. It needs Google Maps 🗺️.
Mad car. Comfortably beats an rs6 from class above so i doubt it'll have much trouble with an rs4 or c63 wagon
I have tested all 3 cars, the M3 has a fantastic Dynamic but the Rs4 competition is drammaticly faster and more aggressive.
Amg is a very lower range

Because AMG does not exist any more…and M cars were always better, the only benefit of amg’s was sound (maybe…in the past with 6.2/5.5 L Engines)…

Interested to know how the ride comfort compares to the G80/G82... I have a G82 and as much as I love it, it really isn't a daily...
I would have to disagree with you there. I think the suspension in the G80 is perfect for daily driving. Do you have the carbon seats? Maybe the comfort seats make it more bearable day to day.
For extra comfort, don't forget the MSS Springs.
@@NickLinacre Yeah I have the ultimate pack on mine which includes the seats. They are a pain to get in and out of but I dont have any complaints towards their comfort, even on long journeys I think the seats are great.
If my commute only involved back roads I would love to use it as a daily but for me at speeds below 30/40 mph I hate the thing.
@@chickenballpizza4902 Fair enough. I have sat in the carbon seats and knew they wouldn't be for me. They look fantastic, but for daily driving they are just a headache. But other than that I feel the car is sublime, even at low speeds.

2 years waiting list? There's 17 on Autotrader. All have sub 300 miles and some have 50 miles, which is just delivery miles
I dislike the big screen. It suits the the 7 series BMW’s but not the lower models.

currently 14 and my dad wants to buy me a luxury car when I turn 16 and my dad said i should pick between a benz/bmw/mustang which is better? I want a practical car though id love an suv so that i can joyride with some friends
The 4 cylinder +200kg fake C63 is such a mistake from amg made even more clear by this M3

The major issue is not the looks - I think it’s stunning and imposing.
The major issue is when are BMW going to sort out the steering.

I've been an Audi fan for years, always turned my nose up at BMW bland interiors. But the last few years they've massively stepped up their game and they are building cars that will appeal to all of us let down by Audi and Merc. You can keep your 4cl AMG's and your diesel S4's. The M Sports division is now the go to.
Why buy a c43 or s4 when you can get an M340i?

Why would anyone spec those seats in a daily driver? They's drive you mad. I think I'd still go for an Alpina B3 instead. More subtle and probably a more comfortable daily.
Thank you for supporting BMW for doing the right thing (at least for now), unlike the new rubbish AMGs. No one should ever buy the new C43 or C63 and enable this behaviour from Mercedes, and this is coming from a previous gen 43 owner. Let's hope BMW is still making straight 6s by the time I get a new car.
I think that BMW did the right thing waiting for an AWD M3. Saying that BMW makes the 340i xDrive witch is all the car you will ever need with plenty of performance and within that huge grille you are just a tume away from the perfect sleeper!

BMW retired the kidney grill for the lung grill.
We make too much of the CF vs. steel roof. A CF roof will drop the weight and CG microscopically. It might mean something if Schumacher was racing Senna at 110% on an F1 track, but to us mortals… it means nothing.
On the road ... 500hp is stupid power that can't be used. That doesn't mean we shouldn't buy it of course ;)
I like the M3 sedan, not a wagon fan. BMW I6 engine is so good, much better than new C63s. But that screen is like a second thought.

The M3 Touring should really come with a solid *Carbon Fiber Roof,* or a solid metal roof with solar panels.
04:18 should really be a RS4 not RS6 shown as a comparison.
M3 is literally in a different league to the rs4. Hence why it competes with higher class cars
Because M3 is faster than RS6, and RS4 is way out of the league
No need for a Pano roof on this M3.. Rear seat occupants are likely to ride with their eyes closed most of the time anyway..
