simba, kimba right, very original Disney.
+Jacob Pittman Simba is the Swahili word for lion. And Kimba's Japanese name is Leo, which is the Latin word for lion. Both are names that have been applied to many fictional lions outside of those two franchises. Heck, you could just as easily say that Disney stole the name from Scooby-Doo.
I would also like to point out that although the Jungle Emperor franchise dates back to the 1950s, the original series has very little in common with The Lion King besides the basic premise of a lion ruler and the fact that it's set in Africa. This movie is the one that most people seem to point to when they accuse Disney of plagiarism, yet it came out three years AFTER The Lion King.

Kristýna Sulková We’re sorry...
Nothing wrong with Lion King -- it's a great work that stood the test of time. But for Disney to send a cease and desist to the company behind Jungle Emperor Leo back in 1997 for ripping Lion King --- that's the kind of stuff that feeds into the Evil Empire Disney narrative.
Still don’t understand how they had the right to do that when Kimba the white lion came out years before it. This movie is simply a remastering of it.
Everything is wrong with how the Lion King came to be. Disney stole the visuals and themes from Kimba the White Lion and after Lion King they sent that letter simply to hide from Western audinces at the time that Disney had just done some ripping off so that The Lion King looked like an original idea.
And I have the STRANGEST of suspicions that it was Katzenburg behind that cease and desist. This was the same jackass that nearly destroyed 2D animation for Disney when he was trying to push the Black Cauldron that bombed and lost to the Care Bears movie. The same jackass that screwed over Richard Williams and his personal project, "The Thief and the Cobbler", just because Richard turned down the offer to direct Beauty and the Beast so Katzenburg greenlit Aladdin to spite him. SPEAKING of Aladdin, Katzenburg was also the same jackass who broke the contract with Robin Williams when Robin didn't want his voiced to be used for more than 25% of the marketing when the late Mr. Williams refused to turn down his role as Batty from Ferngully (his very first VA role) so in turn Katzenburg also attempted and successfully sabotaged Ferngully. And in turn, started the streak of films cynically hiring big names for voice acting in films just for marketing purposes even after he left Disney instead of focusing on characters, ALL because he wanted to make money off of Robin Williams's name despite that the late Robin did not want that at all!
Jeffery Katzenburg: Petty Asshole.
And take it from me, I grew up with Disney and will continue to do so, but even I condone the actions that the company and certain CEO's make behind the scenes. I love Disney for animation, the films, and the iconography it created that can impact and influence one's childhood and family life. But I hate hate HATE the corporate methods it run on since the Michael Eisner days, and Disney still has this 80's mindset about making enough money to keep making more and more and more and more etc.
Finding Nemo was ripped off too, again they event countered and sued the original writer of the story and won!

Mayor Microraptor someone from 9 months ago that actually watched the Kimba content ad came to the obvious conclusion
I think a lot of people are missing the point. It doesn't matter if you think The Lion King is better. What matters is that Disney took a movie/show, plagiarised the snot out of it (not story beats so much as characters, themes, and story elements), used their financial muscle to block the original creators from releasing the product in the West, and denied ever hearing of the movie (kinda like if Disney pretended to not know who Miyazaki is nowadays). For anyone about to tell all their friends about how The Lion King ripped off KImba the White Lion, go watch YMS: Kimba the White Lion
by YourMoviesSucks first.
It's a very unfair comparison. You aren't just comparing two movies, you are comparing one movie (The Lion King) to several feature length films and over one hundred episodes from various series (Kimba). Kimba had exhausted so much imagery from African nature by 1989 of course there will be similarities. And a lot of the visual comparisons are really weak anyways. Things like warthogs and herds of zebra. They're both in Africa, what did you expect?. The names are also very believable as coincidences. Simba straight up means lion in Swahili. Kimba was even going to be called Simba at first, but it wasn't thought to be marketable. And worst of all, a lot of the most extreme cases of similar imagery are from the movie you're watching a trailer for right now; Jungle Emperor Leo from 1997.
These controversy has become way beyond common knowledge and people already eat up and dig these that LK is rip-offs narrative at these point, whatever fuck it!

Never understood why people think the Lion King is a rip-off of Kimba or vice versa. Sure, the similarities are there, but Lion King and Kimba are their own stories and world. One is about the encroachment of humans (white humans to be exact) while the other is about the internal struggles of being a king of a pride.
But I guess that's what happens with cultures and industries that don't talk to one another. I bet it was more of the timing of the two movies that was the real problem when it comes to that controversy. A shame since neither series deserves it.
People think TLK ripped off Kimba because 1) they haven't watched or read Kimba and were misled by (purposefully?) dishonest and disingenuous comparative videos and articles on the subject, and 2) because Disney lied and contradicted themselves on many occasions regarding Tezuka, Kimba, their sources of inspiration for TLK, before backpedaling and changing their tune. Not to mention the fact that they didn't reveal before 2015 that at some point, the animators had access to the Kimba manga, which they read and compared to the movie they were working on.
So, people naturally assumed that if Disney lied in the first place it was because they didn't have a clear conscience and that they had something to hide.
See? That's the problem: piss poor communication. We went from "TLK is a 100% original story, our first animated movie that is *NOT* based on any pre-existing story, literary work, or fairy tale. It has _never_ been done before" to "TLK is based on Hamlet, Bambi, Ben Hur, the biblical stories of Moses and Joseph...". From "nobody at Disney had ever heard about Tezuka and Kimba" to "of course, we know about Osamu Tezuka, and we have the utmost respect for the man and his legacy". From "we only heard about the similarities after the movie came out" to "an animator showed up one day with a copy of the Kimba manga, and he showed it to us, notably a setup that looked like Pride Rock and I remember thinking wow, that's really close to ours!".
I love how it's the same art style as the original but with Superior Animation!!
Jungle Emperor Leo was created by Osamu Tetsuka as comic books in 1950〜1954. And then it was broadcasted as an animation on TV in
Japan in 1965〜1967, the first colour movie was 1966. That was just when my mother was around 5 year old and When I was about 5 year old in 1989〜1990, Leo was remade and came back.

Honestly all the lion king comments are doing far more harm than good. Dont you guys agree kimba should be known as more than "that thing the lion king stole from" cause that's all its known as over here
Yeah, that's because Disney blocked it from being in US theaters, claiming it's a Lion King ripoff. There's no telling whether or not the movie could've added to Kimba's popularity, but fact of the matter is, Lion King stealing from it definitely stifled it.

Slimba is remake of kimba
fatba is the sequel to slimba

Marc Meng totally agree with u
But animes are us inspired too
I more love lion king but im so disappointed of what Disney did
