Make your own Leather Bucket Bag (with Pattern!)
Kayleena designed up this beautiful bucket tote bag, and we just had to do our first full bag pattern and make a full tutorial video out of it! This leather bucket tote is small but mighty, featuring a double seam on the bottom and a super sturdy, yet simple, construction that will lend itself perfectly to small farmers market trips, or simply showing off some dried flowers on a shelf :)

Love watching your videos! This is the perfect bag I needed for the stuff I carry for my kiddo everyday. I hope there’s a kit that can be purchased or this bag can be purchase, momma is so busy don’t have time for her hobbies when the kiddo is young
I like the design. I think I need the wider top, one handle. I bought some lovely yellow buffalo hide a couple of months ago. This is perfect for it. I think I’ll make a smaller red one for my threads.
Maybe you could make so the shorter handle would go inside the bag when your using the longer handle.. but using still using the same screw

the cool bag i was hooked in on it as a leather bucket i am looking for a pattern for one don't get me wrong it is a great video and i can make a pattern from this to make a bucket too
If you will punch your bottom and welt (gasket) then wet mold the bottom you can stitch super easy without glue. Way faster.

I really hate to mention this but....the clips you use to keep glued edges together are called (in Pennsylvania, at least) 'binder clips'. I use them all the time but I line the jaws with thin, scrap leather so metal never touches leather. The other thing I noticed was where the two side panels come together at the top, 4 layers of leather? Could that be adjusted so each liner is short. Kind of fitting next to each other? (Hope that makes sense) Nice design. Kind of want to try it.

Hi. I really need some help with this bag. I bought the pattern. cut it out and watched the video over and over again.
But I am confused
- Each piece of leather for the angled side bag measures 11 3/4 inches - so 23 1/2 inches for both
- Each piece of leather for the straight sided bag measures 11 1/4 inches - so 22 1/2 inches for both
so there is 1 inch difference but the base seems to be the same for both.
I cant work out how this will work out?

How would I figure out the size of the bottom piece? I’m using a different style tote but like this bottom detail but don’t know how much to allow for the size of the bottom with the thickness of the 3/4 strip.

So I am super new to leather making and watching your videos, I feel that I could make just about anything. I hope this isn't a taboo question but but I would love to be able to make things for my wife who is vegetarian, would these techniques work with vegetarian friendly leather? Love watching these videos.
It should work just make sure you get a imitation leather that matches the firmness, thickness and strength of what the real leather would be
I'm still watching the video but why not using water base glue?
Because it's not as strong or as fast.
@@eiward Here ( EU) is getting more difficult to buy glue like that one.

I call it a gasket. The thing you’re calling a welt, that is. Idk if that’s right or not but it works and helps me differentiate between it and a true gusset.

I got this pattern and there no edge allowances, the panels are way too big and the rim liner isn’t even the right measurement. What happened? I have watched this video many times and not helpful. The diagonal bag is way off.

I like your work! I am a novice hobby leather worker. Can I ask your advice on something? I’m currently making a padded leather sleeve-like case for an iPad with a keyboard on it. I’m using 7-8 ounce leather because I have a lot of it. I was planning on the case being one piece that folds then stitched to form a cube-like look. The front and back are continues and there is a seam on the left and right bottom edges and the 2 vertical sides. How would you recommend to stitch the bottom seams? The leather seems pretty thick to bend down for the bottom and front seam. How would you go about it?
This is hard to understand from your description.
I would recommend you get Al Stohlman's books on stitching leather cases; they show lots of different methods for stitching different cases.
They're available on Amazon. It's a set of three.
Well that sounds like really thick leather for what you’re making. If it is veg than leather you might consider wet molding it to conform to the shape of the iPad, and this will bring the two edges together for stitching. You could also add a welt approximately the same thickness of the iPad, this might take several layers of leather and could be a challenge to stitch. Other more advanced options are to use a strip of thinner leather as a gusset, skive down the edges of your main pieces to improve conformation, or combine some of the above options.

I bought the pattern and I’m going to make the angled one. The print accuracy test doesn’t come out right for me and I have no idea how to adjust it. I proceeded though, thinking that maybe the pieces would all be out by the same percentage and everything would be fine (quite possibly flawed thinking there 😉). This is my question - I overlapped the body pieces according to the marks but the liner is not wide enough if I again follow the overlap marks. It matches if I don’t overlap the liner. So, should the liner not show the overlap or is my logic re the printing flawed? I’d rather find out now rather than after I’ve cut it all out 😣.

I had the same issue. Appears that the main body piece is a half inch too wide. Not sure though
I have made the same discovery. Is it possible that angled liner is designed to be aligned with one edger the top piece so that the overlap when sewing is minimized? Did you recut a new piece? How did it turn out?
@@tomfoster2053 Hi Tom! I shortened the width of the angled body piece by a quarter inch on each side so that it is exactly the same width as the top liner. I shortened by a quarter inch on each side rather than a half inch on one side so that the marks for the Chicago screws remained centered. With this adjustment, the bucket bag I made turned out perfect, and the bottom of the bag fit perfectly into the side panel pieces.
Damn it I wasn't going to buy any more patterns!
I have found through necessity rather than choice that there are no end of household objects you can use for shapes, templates and wet moulding
