I made hundreds of these when I worked in a leather shop in the sixties. Our patterns didn’t have hole markings. My favorite leather was yellow latigo dyed with Fiebrings
@@mylastlight I'd have to watch the video again... Tbh I don't often work in inches so I get a bit confused with all the 1/4 and 1/16ths flying around! I guess smaller would make sense if you wanted a tight fit. Although when I made the bag I did the 1/4, 3/16 as above and it worked out fine 😅
No you want it to be slightly smaller. It’s a circle with a square lace so it will stretch into a tight fit which is what you want. I’ve made this pattern and it was perfect. Hope this helps. I know I’m late to your comment lol @mylastlight
I made this bag in the early 70’s. I had a lovely brass “rising sun” pendant (a lot like a harness brass decoration) that slipped through a slit in the flap instead of the leather strap for the closure. I used a natural veg tan leather and let it develop its own patina. I loved that bag for many years, until I lost it in a house fire.
Thank you! I had posted on the old video looking for the pattern. Very much appreciated! I also love the small version. I think that is a nice improvement over the vintage size.
I love this bag! I just bought the pattern on your website! It explains very well! It is possible I make more patterns of bags with braided handles. Thanks from Spain!😀
She wasn’t his wife. Just an employee who worked with him for a good amount of years if I remember correctly. She just recently left to do her own thing
What was the measurements on the edge for the lacing? 1/4" or larger, let me know what would be a good spacing. Thanks a bunch! Btw I love the flowers added onto the flap strip.
Could you please correct what you meant on hole vs lace size? Is it a 16th of an inch smaller or bigger than the lace? You said one thing and then gave the opposite when you said the sizes.
Great work. Really enjoy your videos. How much lace is needed for the small bag and the large bag? I won’t to make one of these for my wife. Thank you.
Thank you so much for this. I've been working to make a pattern for this since I saw the original video. My sizes are about the same as yours but I was having nothing but problems with the lacing holes. Thanks again for one of my wife's Christmas presents 👍
Is it possible for you to create a larger template of this bag, roughly the shape and size of a messenger bag or laptop bag? The design would be perfect for something like that, albeit wider.
Ahoy Eric! Hope you're doing great. Just replied to one of the comments here but I'd rather try to ask you here. I'm from Brazil and I noticed some folks got confused the same way as me with regards to punch and lace. Also when I looked at my ruler with some conversions from inch to cm they have some dozens and hundredths, so would you know what I could use to make it work down here? I imagine something like: punch = 5cm hole and lace 6.25cm or try to go to 6.5cm (but still a bit confused cause I thought it should be the opposite)
I'm confused. The lace is 1/4 inch = 4/16ths You said you would use a punch that is 1/16th larger. 4 + 1 = 5, or 5/16ths However, you stated you used a 3/16ths punch. Did you actually use a 3/16ths or a 5/16ths punch? Thank you for this otherwise great project idea and pattern pack.
I just tested and can confirm that the punch should be 3/16th. 5/16th is way too big and leaves quite large gaps around 1/4 inch lace. I also tried with a #4 (5/32), and it is too tight to pull through without a lot of difficulty and leaves the lace looking folded and compresses. So I'm off to buy another punch!
Yep, I'm from Brazil and got confused the same way when I looked at my ruler with some conversions from inch to cm... since they have some dozens and hundredths, would you guys know what I could use to make it work down here? I made the small bag. It turned our great! However, I can't find what length the 1" cross body strap should be. Any suggestions on a suitable length? I appreciate your work and the high quality videos!

I love that I'm not the only one who writes reminders/lists on their hand! Love it!
5/6 Oz leather, 1/4 inch lace, punch holes 3/16 inch (1/16 inch bigger than the lace), strap is 10 Oz and 1 inch leather for those wondering!
I'm confused because 3/16 is 1/16 smaller than 1/4, 5/16 would be what you need, or did he mean go 1/16 smaller

I’m currently doing 3/16 holes and 1/4 lace and it’s tight I should have went 5/16. I think Eric misspoke.

I've made 4 of these using the tools I put in the first comment and it worked absolutely no problem
Very easy pattern and the results are lovely. Made three already. I made 2 of them 10% larger than the smaller pattern. That size is perfect for me.

Great looking bag and it should be easy enough for novices to produce well.
She did a great job. Love the small pouch.
Awesome! Glad you were able to make these! Great job
These are cool purses. I have the original Tandy pattern. Made a few for family members.
Those look great! I really like the darker ones with the Corter Lether logo!
These made excellent christmas gifts! Thank you for selling the patterns!
SUPER AMAZING AND INCREDIBLE WORK. THANKS FOR SHARING THESE BEAUTIFUL BAGS. KEEP UP THE EXCELLENT WORK 👏👏
Wow! I love those.😃
Thank you! I had posted on the old video looking for the pattern. Very much appreciated! I also love the small version. I think that is a nice improvement over the vintage size.
I love this video, and this bag ,so much!
Excellent design. Thank you. I think the smaller one would make an excellent pouch to attach to backpacks ect.
Great little bag. Might just have to make a couple for some friends!
This is a great pattern. I will be getting it in the future. I have a few projects gong right now but I will be dong these. Thanks
very very simple and nice. good job ❤️
It could also make a nice belt pouch for Rennfaires. I remember these when I was growing up, in the 60's...
Awesome job! I can’t wait to make both of them!
awesome Workmanship 👌
Simple and beautiful nice work, I like it .
Cool project!
Thanks So much, will be making TONS of these
Thank you for this tutorial - can't wait to try!
So beautiful!!
Beautiful!
Very nice and rustic. Definitily something for LARPERS and cosplayers. I'll be doing one of those after the currently in Working vambraces
Really nice! 😍
You could keep the lace long inside the bag and attach a small snaphook/carabiner and use it as keychain lanyard
LOVE IT!
How much leather do these bags take? I want to make this bag, but as a beginner l don't want to buy a whole hide unless i have to.
gracias por compartir tus conocimientos maestro.. exelente 🙏👍👏👏👏👏👏
I love this style , in my profile pic is the first one I made in this style, great work as always by you guys. Love your work and the vids👌
Could you let me know if a 3-4oz works a bag like this? I wanna try but I'm kinda skeptical about buying a entire piece of leather
This is great! Patterns ordered. :-)

cute phone bag is in style
amazing props to the wife for all she does in this 🎉 amazing dedication and cooperation

Very nice. Am into my Bushcraft a mixed leather and waxed canvas one would be great for a small tinder bag

I just purchased the pattern
What are your suggested lengths for the straps ?
Thank you so much for this. I've been working to make a pattern for this since I saw the original video. My sizes are about the same as yours but I was having nothing but problems with the lacing holes.
Thanks again for one of my wife's Christmas presents 👍
Great job as usual you pair!
What length strap did you start with on the smaller bag?
Keep up the great video's...love your work!
Fantastic! What are the dimensions of the smaller bag? Making sure it will fit my cell phone.
Is it possible for you to create a larger template of this bag, roughly the shape and size of a messenger bag or laptop bag? The design would be perfect for something like that, albeit wider.
Hermosas 💞
I can’t figure out how long the lace must be. Is it written in the patterns?
Thanks!
Can anyone give me guidance on overall strap lengths for the small and large bags? Thanks!
Just wondering if you ever got the pattern into PDF form. It's been 2 years.
How long do you cut the strap?
Ahoy Eric! Hope you're doing great. Just replied to one of the comments here but I'd rather try to ask you here.

Can the digital pattern effectively be enlarged for a even larger bag for hiking or whatever?
Hey there! What stitching irons are you using? I found the Weaver irons to be incredibly uneven
Are vertical card wallets still for sale. I can’t find any on the website?
Hey I have a question, what is the length of your strap that you put on it. Thank you!
Belíssimas, show de bola ⚽️ 👏👏👏👏👏👏👍👍👍👍👊🇧🇷
São horrorosas como muitas pessoas.
How much leather would I need to get for the small bag. Would a panel or two be enough, or would I need to get a side?
Can you include written instructions with the pattern? I cut the bottom and side pieces seperately by accident
I'm confused. The lace is 1/4 inch = 4/16ths
You said you would use a punch that is 1/16th larger. 4 + 1 = 5, or 5/16ths
However, you stated you used a 3/16ths punch.
Did you actually use a 3/16ths or a 5/16ths punch?
Thank you for this otherwise great project idea and pattern pack.
The math or the word larger/smaller?
I'm sure he meant 5/16" holes, and just misspoke. It happens. Definitely looks to be that way with how easy he pulled the lace through
I just tested and can confirm that the punch should be 3/16th. 5/16th is way too big and leaves quite large gaps around 1/4 inch lace. I also tried with a #4 (5/32), and it is too tight to pull through without a lot of difficulty and leaves the lace looking folded and compresses. So I'm off to buy another punch!

hi what would you sell the bags thanks
Whatever the market in your area will be willing to pay
I wonder how it would look if you tried this using some leather cord in a contrasting color??
that was often times done! it looks nice too :)
I made the small bag. It turned our great! However, I can't find what length the 1" cross body strap should be. Any suggestions on a suitable length? I appreciate your work and the high quality videos!
I think it’s up to you or the person you are making it for.?
it's beautiful
but if u add some accessories or something to it
it'll be more beauty
are these for men also?
put a belt loop on the back of the smaller one and its a belt pouch.
*Awe....you missed your chance, you should have made it "Peasant Vuitton" lol.*
The scoutmaster in me wishes you’d have tied a figure eight knot instead of an overhand knot as a stopper.
👍👍
Love this pattern. But if the lace is 1/4“ and we need to add 16th of an inch would be 5/16th. Perhaps i misunderstood the video
i added a back pocket by cutting 2 front pieces and putting it on the back
im having 70s flashbacks
that seems a bad way to attach a handle
Nice work but these bags are HORRIBLE.
😩 hard disagree but everyone has their own style!
@@CorterYes. Next time papers bag. Thank you.
Why are they horrible?
