The short game and the full swing are two completely different animals, and require different technique and movement patterns. In this video we're going to dive into some of the key differences.
In the full swing, we are typically looking for power and distance. We want to compress the ball and create a penetrating ball flight. To accomplish this we want our hands out in front of the ball at impact, and our trail elbow rotated in at impact.
In the short game, we are often looking for a higher and softer shot. We are not as concerned about compressing the ball, and, with our wedges in particular, want to use the bounce of the club. We don't need to have our hands out in front of the ball at impact, and we can allow for an open club face.
