I found myself endlessly watching countless videos from various other channel until I discovered yours. I started golfing just last year and had a really tough time even hitting the ball! Your videos have been incredibly helpful, and I now spend about 30 minutes each day rewatching them to reinforce your drills and tips at the range. After just 3-4 practice sessions, I can consistently hit the ball, and it feels amazing! You are truly the best instructor on RUclips, and I eagerly anticipate each new video while i keep practicing. Thank you, Danny!
The concept of ‘calm’ on the shorter pitches from last week has really worked for me. This understanding of the club in relation to the body is great stuff. Thanks Danny
Hi Danny had to write this. I’ve been struggling with approach shots for a while now and watched this video several times with interest on Saturday evening. Sunday morning was my clubs first big major of the year and I was participating and I thought what the hell I’ll play the whole round playing off the left side as you instructed for approach shots. I played a really solid 18 like this and though I lost a little distance on the driver and long irons it was made up for with much more accuracy. It was a tough challenge that day and my group were last out, on arriving back at the clubhouse with a net 68 I was shocked to discover I had won by 2 shots. I never dreamed of winning a major and I’m so happy, thank you so much for this timely advice and I dedicate my win to you. Thank you Laurence.
Hobbyist golfer here, been playing for a little over a year, & I've been incorporating a lot more short game into my practice because my home course has some really nice facilities along with the driving range. For the first month or so, my striking suffered a lot because I couldn't differentiate between my short-game & long-game swings. This video perfectly encapsulates what I'm currently working on, so thank you as always for the great content, Danny!
Thanks Danny. I didn't know that you hit different parts of the ball for short and long shots. 30 years playing the game and nowhere have I heard this before!
One of my (few) favourite chanels. I have played for more than 50 years, but have the recent years developed chipping yips. Thanks for all your great tips Danny 👏😀
Another great one. Last week I couldn't hit my approach irons to save my life (or to save my score) but I was hitting my pitches decently thanks for the previous video. Now I'm going to try this, I think the body last for pitching is what was working, so have to try the body first feeling for the long shots. At this point, I've got nothing to lose and everything to gain. I agree with all the other commenters that you're the best!
Thank you Danny!!! I kept wondering why when I was hitting great iron shots the rest of my game was terrible. The same when hitting the driver great...terrible at the rest of my game. Your explanation of the different swings is just what I needed!
Another great lesson with information that is not ever explained, I tend to pick the ball up, hitting high fades, I know understand why. Will work on this one over the next few weeks at the range.
Thanks Danny for explaining the difference between the short game and the longer clubs. yet again something to work on at the range so will definitely gives these two motions a try!
Hi Danny, well explained. Most of us golfers practice hitting the ball for distance on the driving range and not experiment with the different clubs and what we can do. Like you explained, get the feel of the swing and motion. Thanks Danny and always look forward to your videos
Danny once again great video showing in simple terms the difference in swings required when playing this wonderful game. Its a joy to watch & learn from your videos, now practice practice practice. Thank you
I look forward to your videos and satrtdaus Danny - for me this is one of your best! Love the concept of ‘body waiting’ v’s the ‘club waiting’ off to the driving range…..
Danny, this video just made sense. I have been struggling with my mid irons which have made it difficult to get GIRs. I immediately went out to the backyard after watching this video and worked on thinning out some weeds. I love feeling the difference between these swing types. Understanding the body movement in relation to the arms felt so good. I am playing a round tomorrow and I can't wait for warm-up to put this in action with real golf balls. I hope it also helps me with my aim. I noticed the higher the loft the more I pull the shot to the left, usually leaving me just off the green.
Watching again for the 5th time. Shared with a few buddies. I'm about to have a break thru. This is absolutely brilliant. 17 years ago when I stopped playing I could hit my 7 iron 150 pretty straight consistently. It drives me crazy that I can only hit it about 120. I think this is going to get some of my distance back. Can't wait to get out there. ❤
Terrific stuff again, Danny. Implanting that idea of almost what you're trying to do bodily WITHOUT the club is key, just like the hammering the nail analogy in another of your videos. This all makes so much sense; all I've got to do is remember it and make it consistent when I go out now! Cheers Danny
Thanks again Danny your the man I can’t get enough of your work it’s amazing and I’ve been practicing and can’t wait to put it to work tomorrow on the course wish me luck!! 🍀 Danny your one of the best in the business I’ve been telling and showing all my buddies that golf and could use help just like I need help to look no further and to subscribe to your channel so thanks again Danny I truly appreciate you and everything you do
Great video Danny. I'm so glad you finally said, "like skipping a stone". That's the way I've always thought of these two moves. The short game is like an underhand toss and the long game swing is like a side armed throw with more side tilt. Now I think I'll go fishing. 🤣😝
Damn... I think you just opened my eyes to something here. I can't wait to try it out on the next range session. I just started golf and this was a huge eye opener because my wedges is probably my best part of my game and never even thought about playing the irons like that.
Very important issue! I often strugle with changing clubs during the game. As a reminder I always loosen the strap of my glove if not hitting my driver. Need to find a simular reminder for Short and long game. Btw love the explanation of body waiting for the club versus club waiting for the body.
At last, the key message , seems to me is the fishes tail is the perfect image for all shots. The long shots are 3 successive fish tails 1. The shoulders wait for the body, 2. the arms for the shoulders, and 3. the hands for the arms...
Great job Danny, I like to use a putting motion for around the green and a throwing style for longer shots. My driver swing still needs to get in check will try your method until it gets right.
Hi Danny, this video makes so much sense to me. My short game (which I practice a hell of a lot) has always been fine, BUT, I couldn't understand why I felt that a pause at the top of my long shots always seemed to work well for me .... I thought I was doing something wrong when doing this as I had never heard anyone else mention this before (arms waiting for body) and have continued to try everything else the coaches have suggested. I have always had extremely quick reflexes and always found my hands coming thru way too quick.... I'll now give the hands time to wait for the body to get moving..... thank you so much.
I enjoy watching Danny, even if his accent is harsh for an Australian. In short shots with precision focus, the shaft pointing never leaves the moving body, tipping or rotating. The only power required is to deliver the correct short distance target area, spinning, flopping or running. Full shots separate the men from whoever, power comes from now conversion of lag pointing at lead hip to centre pointing shaft, the turned/leading body has to wait for that swish, power. Lag almost auto produces a bullet compression, even in the hands of ladies, when used adequately. Unnecessary in pretty short shots, even if some spin can be dialed up by design.
Love the channel - have learned many techniques that I will continue to work on. Any chance you have streching routines pre-game or even morning that are beneficial for golfers?
Love a DM Saturday vlog. I think if it wasn't for these I would've packed in a while ago. I'm not getting out as much as I ought to but I do practice what Danny shows and that gets the interest back for another week.
I've been looking for exactly this video 😂 Good timing 🙏 I hit my Driver and ironed below 7 reasonably well. However my 5 and 4 irons are something else at the moment.
I have always had trouble with trying to get the wedges to hit lower, mainly because of the bounce of the club where either the contact is bladed or I pop the shot up because I hit a little behind and I hit the bounce of the wedge. I will try to practice your techniques after I play golf on Sunday.
Brilliant Danny, thanks for another really helpful video. I feel like I’m really making progress with you this year. Can you think about making a video on long irons, ie 6 iron upwards? I really struggle with these clubs esp 5 iron. People have forgotten about these clubs and have moved to hybrids and 7W or 9W in my opinion and there is very little coaching content on YT for them. Anyway just a thought, thanks again 👊⛳️
Always look forward to your videos. The simple wedge swing, would it apply to approach shots with different wedges when 100 yards or closer? Or more so when your closer in say 30-40 yards? Great video!
Great video! You know I was wondering why my game was going short? I took a cellphone video of my swing. I was doing the short game swing ! I was just barely off. But I watched your video! I went back to the practice area. And my distance returned. Plus I tried some short game shots. Were really good! Thank you very much for your great videos Danny!😉
I never understood how I could have a great round of pitch 'n' putt on a Saturday, and then a terrible nine or eighteen holes on a Sunday. I just couldn't work out why my improving short game didn't translate to my long game. But from watching you, I'm really starting to understand and (slowly) improve.
Watch a few videos 🙏 Thank you I just went around in a 37 for nine holes My drives were dead straight with no big slices and I stayed on the fairway and this video helped heaps too Thank you again
Always love your videos each morning Danny! After watching this one...I am still confused about which clubs/shots are short game and when to switch to the long game shot? For example...I hit a full pitch 100 y, 54 degree wedge 75y, 58 degree wedge 50-60 y....which of these are considered for a short game swing? Which iron should I consider long game?
Great question and this video should help you understand this. Whenever you want to hit the ball longer you need to move the impact point from below the equator to more on and /or above the equator of the ball. Experiment doing this and you will eventually discover the maximum distance you can hit each wedge. Eg. My 56 degree will go roughly 80 yards when I focus on a swing that hits below the equator. When I want to hit it further with a 56 I will simply move the impact location further up the ball
Hi Danny love the videos I've been watching for a couple years now. I've looked through your channel and couldn't seem to find a specific topic covered. I have a much easier time hitting my short irons and wedges but as I move up to my mid irons like 5-6 I almost always have push shots is there any way you could cover push/pull shots through the irons?
Today no comment on another great video you did. Today I was lucky enough to meet Danny Maude by chance at Canterbury Golf Club. Sometimes we are disappointed when we meet a celebrity we "know" from TV or RUclips in real life. I once had the most boring evening of my life with one of the most famous and highly decorated German actors. Awful. Different with Danny Maude: he is even nicer in real life than on RUclips. Thank you for your time, Danny. And sorry for literally running into you. We will look for an appointment for an in-person lesson. Best regards Marc
Hi Danny, I messaged you last week about being inspired to get out and start playing. Been to the driving range today and started hitting balls again for the first time in 27 years. Took some time, but things eventually fell into place and started to hit some good shots considering I was using crap clubs and solid balls. Thank you for your inspiring coaching style it has helped me a lot. I'm going to have to see about getting some clubs of my own, I'm left handed which maks things slightly more awkward, is there any advice you can give me for doing this? Thanks from Steve
Crikey, my brain is scrambled with the swing thought that on longer irons I should be trying to hit the ball above its equator! You are obviously not talking about the leading edge but It’s the thought of applying a club head which is angled away from the ball that I have difficulty understanding how the sweet spot of said club head could be applied above the equator of the ball. Anyhow, now rushing off to try this contact concept at the course. Wish me luck. All the best Danny and thanks.
Too easy. Aim your sad clubhead, leading edge or even bounce at the low impact area/divot in front of ball. Unless you are 100% unco, you will connect the ball above equator passively through this arc, steep or sweep. Perhaps try collecting stamps.
Well I never realised I should be hitting so far above the equator on the ball. I’ve always had in my mind hitting the back of the ball evenly. Now I’m beginning to understand why we say ‘hit down’ on the golf ball. Just practiced the chip in the garden, I still had a couple squirt right, what causes this? … btw loving the ‘fishes tail’ becoming a regular!! Thanks Danny 😊
@@DanielMaude Thanks boss man … I’ll keep an eye on my club face (on the plus side a bush that needed serious cutting back … got cut back in order to retrieve those balls - video bonus! - win win! 😂 )
Danny whatever I do I can’t hit my irons pure. I’m a senior golfer with plenty of mobility but always chunking or topping the ball. Any idea, love the channel.
I was never aware of this! When I started out, I hit all my clubs like the short game shots you describe. High, but short and accurate. As I tried to add more compression, I have gotten better distance but I have more of a tendency to come too much in to out and close the face too much, giving a wicked hook if I’m not careful. Is there something that you can suggest to keeping the hook from coming in with the long club swing? I think part of it is the powerful weight shift forward can lead to a sway, causing more in to out path. But any tips would be appreciated.
I think you understand it perfectly. I’ve got a video coming out soon that will explain all but certainly less lateral motion towards the target can reduce the path going right
Yes they get out of position at the top of the swing and are forced to manipulate the club on the way down. Picture hammering a nail, if instead of moving the hammer straight back on the backswing you moved it to the side you would have to manipulate the hammer on the way down to make decent contact on the nail
Only confusion. Someone said with my irons to try and keep my back to the target as long as possible to help with lag and avoid coming over the top. Seems if the arms wait for the body it’s opposite.
Perhaps only 4 letter words should be used for you to understand: your remark could not be more to the opposite as to what he said. Take up collecting stamps.
I found myself endlessly watching countless videos from various other channel until I discovered yours. I started golfing just last year and had a really tough time even hitting the ball!

Think putting the sweet spot on the ball
Too easy. Aim your sad clubhead, leading edge or even bounce at the low impact area/divot in front of ball. Unless you are 100% unco, you will connect the ball above equator passively through this arc, steep or sweep. Perhaps try collecting stamps.
Great explanation Danny! 👍regards Nasir
My pleasure Nasir
Great video, Danny!
Thank you Rodney 😁
Well I never realised I should be hitting so far above the equator on the ball. I’ve always had in my mind hitting the back of the ball evenly. Now I’m beginning to understand why we say ‘hit down’ on the golf ball. Just practiced the chip in the garden, I still had a couple squirt right, what causes this? … btw loving the ‘fishes tail’ becoming a regular!! Thanks Danny 😊
Usually the club face is aiming right
@@DanielMaude Thanks boss man … I’ll keep an eye on my club face (on the plus side a bush that needed serious cutting back … got cut back in order to retrieve those balls - video bonus! - win win! 😂 )
Danny whatever I do I can’t hit my irons pure. I’m a senior golfer with plenty of mobility but always chunking or topping the ball. Any idea, love the channel.
This is what I was looking for. Thnx!
Thank you 😁
Very inspiring. Thanks DM
Appreciate the feedback Mike
This is so great for me. I've been wondering why I feel like I'm hitting my mid-long irons well but getting too much height and less distance.
Happy to help Graham 😁
I was never aware of this! When I started out, I hit all my clubs like the short game shots you describe. High, but short and accurate. As I tried to add more compression, I have gotten better distance but I have more of a tendency to come too much in to out and close the face too much, giving a wicked hook if I’m not careful. Is there something that you can suggest to keeping the hook from coming in with the long club swing? I think part of it is the powerful weight shift forward can lead to a sway, causing more in to out path. But any tips would be appreciated.
I think you understand it perfectly. I’ve got a video coming out soon that will explain all but certainly less lateral motion towards the target can reduce the path going right
Great lesson.
Glad you liked it Tony
Well done Danny 👏 😊
Thank you Roy 😃
It’s no surprise you have, a million plus subscribers and counting.
Thanks for the continued support Stephen

great video Danny
Glad you enjoyed it Mike
Hi
What should be the correct tee height for a driver( in cm) ? Thanks
There isn’t one, experiment teeing it low and see what happens then gradually increase the height and find one that works for you
Thanks! Perfect video!
Thank you! Appreciate the support 😁
Hi Danny in the vid you did with Pete he talked about how most golfers manipulate the club could you elaborate on this in regards this video
Yes they get out of position at the top of the swing and are forced to manipulate the club on the way down.
Picture hammering a nail, if instead of moving the hammer straight back on the backswing you moved it to the side you would have to manipulate the hammer on the way down to make decent contact on the nail
Got it could you do a video on Pete’s axe drill?
Extrem stark! Danke Danny 🙂
Thank you Chris!
Another great vid. Can't wait to get on the range. Using Phi Golf simulator until than
Have fun
Great tips thank you
You are so welcome John
@@DanielMaude wish you were in Sydney Australia for some lessons 👍
thank you Danny.
Only confusion. Someone said with my irons to try and keep my back to the target as long as possible to help with lag and avoid coming over the top. Seems if the arms wait for the body it’s opposite.
That can help the body lead and the club head follow
Perhaps only 4 letter words should be used for you to understand: your remark could not be more to the opposite as to what he said. Take up collecting stamps.
Good lesson..Thank-you
Thanks Nan!
Why would you want to use a 7 iron for short game versus longer distance? Why not use a different club?
Thanks so much Danny..
@frankbanares6349 you are most welcome 🙏🏻
