Great video, Matt. You do an excellent job of explaining things clearly and enthusiastically. Watching your videos, I've dropped my scores this year from struggling to break 100 to the very low 90's (shot a 90 even a couple of weeks ago), and am looking to break 90 before the year is out. Fortunately, here in SoCal, I have a twelve month golf season to work with. Keep the great videos coming. They're great.
This video finally helped this senior understand his swing. Golf is a dynamic activity - it's never the same. This video helps manage my game when it goes a bit sideways. Thank you Mr. Short Game.
Your swing and follow through are well versed. I tend to hit most of my iron shots with a 3/4 swing with some good distance. Thanks Matt, informative content
SO BRO! I went to driving range today for the first time in my life and I hit 148 yards with my 3 Iron. A solid wedge swing that totaled about 89-112 yds, 1 iron 123 yds with 112 speed which is nuts. ANd its cause of you man
Such a great job with the videos. I also enjoy the way you explain them. Clearly, you're a great golfer, but you speak with a humility that's very relatable and approachable. I'm a fan. Thanks.
I learned how to hit my pitching wedge from you (60 yds out). I’ve been struggling with hitting the rest of my irons though. It’s been hit or miss - no consistency. I am playing golf today and running off to the driving range right now to try and work on this lesson. Thanks!
Hey Mr Short Game - just a quick note to say your vids are great. Your instruction is simple and informative. I'm stuck in a bit of a golfing wilderness in terms of golf courses as I work out in China and have been for 2 years. However I am blessed with an excellent practice facility so am trying to get a good regime going. Your tips are much appreciated. Thanks
Been watching the channel for a while...trying to apply your guidance to my game. Recently I started to focus on my Hybrids and Driver... Once I did, I lost my iron swing. Went to a par 3 course to work on my short game and boom... found my swing. Seems my body syncs around that 60% swing and now I am happy with that 75 - 80% swing. More consistent and only loosing a bit on yardage. Great video... just makes sense to me.
Thanks Mr SG! I watched this yesterday and it really resonated with me, in particular, for my wedge play. I put it into play today and the confidence it gave me resulted in 41 points and a win in the club comp! 👍
One the things I look forward to on Monday is the video from MSG. And today was another great one. Thanks again for all u do for us. Make it a fantastic Monday
Superb content as always Matt... I've been doing exactly this recently and finding better results, then you post this video and its made me more determined to carry on with the 3/4 swing method, i hit a beautiful 3/4 6 iron the other evening, it felt so much more controlled and to be honest, there wasn't really that much of a loss in distance because the strike was so pure. Thank you for all your hard work and highly informative videos, I for one truly enjoy everything you post up 👌🏼🤘🏼
That’s weird coach because of my back problems I found myself using the wedge swing set up and I been seeing that exact result smh crazy thanks for letting know it does work 👍🏽👍🏽
Going to be implementing this wedge swing into my irons in the coming months… I have been seeing my iron play decrease lately and I believe it’s because I became comfortable and started putting too much power behind the swing so therefore increased my margin of error. Hopefully taking a different approach will get me back on track. 👍🏽
Wow thats what i want for my age 60 years old i dont need full swing for iron...i am practicing now a 3/4 swing for all my iron except for my driver and hybrid...many thanks.
So true!! I tried this 3 weeks ago . I can’t turn like I use to when I got so far I would just raise my arms and then cast it all over the place. Cut it down like you said and way more accurate and repeatable. Irons same distance too. Tried with driver and more accurate but more work needed. Thanks so much 👍
I’ve been watching these tutorials for the last 8 months and have taken my scoring down 10 shots to the low 90s consistently. My question is the 9 iron? Do I base which swing on distance or is it just what feels comfortable?
Matt I absolutely love this video , everything you explain and demonstrated i experience,, I feel same way, of course I do,, just needed explained to me!! so true about feel the video looks nothing like it feels ,, my swing was so long because I thought it gave me more power, to correct it my feel had to be waist high before I started my downswing ,, so strange that feeling,, but totally understand what your saying,, and love the slightly open face in routine!! really can talk about this for hours but anyway Thanks again Matt love the message !!
Great stuff. I appreciate your instructional videos and the way you present them. Very easy to watch. One observance I have is the difference in distance between your wedge and 9 iron. With the same swing, your wedge landed about 119 yards and then rolled a bit while the 9 iron traveled in the air 139 yards. 20 yard difference is too much in my opinion. Can you expand on that a bit? Thank you.
This feel / motion teaches your brain how to swing the club with the body instead of a shoulder / arms only swing so many people are plagued by. Start small and work up to longer clubs. My best 9 holes ever was a one-under many years ago when I first got my old Mizuno MP35's. I was so intimidated by the look of the clubs standing over the ball that I made an effort to just hit 3/4 irons all the way around. I threw darts all the way around. Whenever I start to lose my irons I try to take my feeling back to that day and just swing L to L.
Great content as always!! For some reason I always have a 3/4 swing with all of my clubs. Still hit with good distance. When I take full swings I lose control of my club face and always hit the ball off target. Not sure how to fix this or if I should even bother fixing it.
Totally with you. That full shoulder while keeping the head still is so difficult. If I reach that far back it gets squirrelly. I know it's not as pretty..but the 3/4 swing keeps me under control
This is similar to the gear method I use. Gear 1 is for technical manipulation (I’m working on something) it’s a zero power swing that is all about maximum control taken as slow as I can manage. Gear 2 is my control swing it feels like a half swing but it probably closer to the 80% it’s a usable swing that still is more about control. Gear 3 is a full swing, gear 4 is a max swing.
I know you’ve done some work with hackmotion - in this video you’re not talking wrist angles, but are you maintaining extension with your wedge swing and flexion in your full swing at impact?
Thanks, Matt. To you and your followers, what percentage carry and distance do you get on your wedge swing versus standard swing? Trying to see if I should use wedge swing for when in between clubs?
I happen to try this about 3 weeks ago as I can’t get around anymore . When I get so far back I just raise my hands and then it’s a mess. Way more accurate and distance is the same or better with about a 3/4 swing!
Mr. shortgame, I am a big fan of your golf lessons. I've been watching and learning your videos for a long time. I would like to ask you for help getting back to play golf. On May 15, 2021, I had an open heart surgery and I've lose all I ever learned about golf. I'm 58 years old and I loved playing golf. I still love the game but I need to re-learn how to swing. I was a 12 handycap and now I need help to relearning how to swing. Please help?
I need some advise. Whenever I hit my wedges the ball flys up really high and I can not hit it farther as I would like to. Roughly 60-70 yards with my 56 wedge .Any advise will be greatly appreciated. Thank you
Do you still release the club with the wedge and have your trail arm crossover top of the lead arm in the follow through? (Forearm rotation). Do you do this with all clubs? Driver, fairways, hybrids, etc?
Great content as always. You make it sound so easy. I can’t even hinge my wrists in my golf swing. I’ve been doing it that way since I started many years ago. I’m getting a lesson this week to try and fix that problem because I’m tired of being shorter than all of my buddies and I’m at the biggest at 6’4 220 driving it only 235. Any tips for working on the hinge when I’m on the range? Thank you
Your wrists should hinge naturally. Don’t even think about hinging. It’s really the right arm that will cause the hinge. If you have that right arm tucked to your body and a good full turn in the back swing it will hinge. Just look at Ben hogans swing.
I always blade with my 60 degree unless i close the face all the way and hit like that which i have gotten pretty good at doing but the place i play at has hard grounds not much fairway grass were its hard to get under the ball. Should i switch to another wedge?
I think the wedge swing should be used all the time! Unless you’re trying to just get the ball to stay on the green by carrying a front side bunker/water, you don’t need a towering high shot.
I set up very much like you, but when I hit my pw I only get 110 carry but the contact feels clean but my swing speed is comparable to those who hit theirs 130 carry. What could the issue be?
As I've gotten a bit older my iron swing has naturally transformed to resemble my wedge swing, which gives me a bit more control at the price of losing some distance. You've inspired me to work a bit harder on my iron swing to make it look like I'm not chipping on every single shot! All your tips have really helped my game this season--shot my best score this week!
the pitching wedge is going 120 and the 9 iron wedge swing 140? So what happens if you have to hit it 130? Do you then full swing your pitching wedge or dial back the 9 to half swing?
so it's ok to have the face slightly open, I've always been told to have the face squared or slightly closed, what's the benefit of having it slightly open?
I think having it slightly open benefits most average golfers because they usually have a slight outside to in swing. The open face is able to get the ball the stay more on line with a fade. Additionally, it also gives you a little wiggle room if you have a tendency to pull hook from closing the face too much through impact.
the one thing both of these swings have in common is that they shouldnt require any "timing" a good golf swing gets into the right slot and rotates through impact regardless of club. needing good timing is a bad thing lol (noticed he said timing in the video, hold up a minute)
Great video, Matt. You do an excellent job of explaining things clearly and enthusiastically. Watched a lot of Golf RUclipsrs.
Your technique explanations help and resonate for me more than anyone else's 🤙🤙 Thanks!
Couldn’t agree more 👍
Always found your methods to be straight forward, repeatable and useful. Thanks.

Thank you as intuitively i knew there was huge difference in stances for each type of club, and swing as well. now i know. thank you sir
This 80& 90% rule is one of your best lessons. It got me into the mid 80's first in a long time. Thanks
First time watcher, instant subscribe, great video dude and can’t wait to see more of em!
That’s good stuff! I have been focusing on using the 9 to 3 method and my shots have gotten better. Focus on the short game and everything works out.
Happily subscribed! You have the best instructional for people like me that just started playing! Your explanations are very easy to follow!
Re-watching this video as this topic is so important. 👍👍👍
Killer video. Trying that tomorrow morning!
Thanks Mr SG! I watched this yesterday and it really resonated with me, in particular, for my wedge play. I put it into play today and the confidence it gave me resulted in 41 points and a win in the club comp! 👍
Ever since I got pretty good with my wedge, I've started slicing my irons. Going to try these tips out on the range tonight.
Love your vids. Can really relate to them and have helped me tremendously.
New to golf, first summer playing. Your videos are a big help learning fundamentals. Awesome video, thank you.
Thanks for all
These awesome tips!
Sincerely enjoy your videos especially when they are at outdoor ranges or courses. I look forward to the next one.
One the things I look forward to on Monday is the video from MSG.
And today was another great one. Thanks again for all u do for us. Make it a fantastic Monday
Can’t hear “great success” without thinking of Borat.
Very nice! 😂

감사합니다.
Thanks so much
Did this swing a few weeks ago. Best 9 iron shot I ever hit. Ended up with a birdie putt. Use this on my wedges and 9. Just need more practice
Nice job explaining difference.
Thanks Matt, more great advice. Cheers
Wow thats what i want for my age 60 years old i dont need full swing for iron...i am practicing now a 3/4 swing for all my iron except for my driver and hybrid...many thanks.
Hey Matt, I was watching Justin Rose do a clinic and he kept the lead arm and the club in a straight line down to the ball, with his irons.
So true!! I tried this 3 weeks ago . I can’t turn like I use to when I got so far I would just raise my arms and then cast it all over the place. Great content. Always love your videos.
Awesome.Doing the wedge swing but never applied to irons. Can t wait to try.

My favorite channel!
I wish you gave personal lessons. I would love to get advice from you to help my game. Keep making the great videos.
Great tips. Thanx Matt!
Awesome!!!...I like the wedge swing...thanks.
Helpful👊🏽🙏🏽
I always come back to this video. I knwo where i have been messing up. I been full lofting it which i then shank or completely mess up my swing.
Mr. SG you are my go to guy.
Great video. Thanks
Fantastic video!
Awesome brother thanks 🙏
Thanks Matt, great lesson.
Great demo!
Excellent advice. thanks. But what if you need 129yd carry? the 20 yd gap between PW and 9i is quite much.
Great video .
Mr SG, you’re a genius!

Diggin the Billy Hoerschel shoes.
Can I apply this to 5w 3w and driver? Great stuff. Mike

me too. I just assume its my body type. short arms/pot belly. im not flexible/maybe not enough turn.
Totally with you. That full shoulder while keeping the head still is so difficult. If I reach that far back it gets squirrelly. I know it's not as pretty..but the 3/4 swing keeps me under control
The payoff at the end makes me want to happy cry. MSG your channel is perfection don’t ever change.
Hi Matt,
Interesting you mention opening the face slightly at address, does the same apply to driver?
Thanks

I've recently been hitting my wedges right. Face open at impact. I used to hit them really well but I can't tell what's changes. Any ideas?
Thanks for sharing
great video Matt! Question - what kind of shaft do you use in your irons? Thanks!
Great channel and vid! Does the hands slightly forward/open face tip apply for hybrids/woods/driver as well?
I need some advise.
Whenever I hit my wedges the ball flys up really high and I can not hit it farther as I would like to. Roughly 60-70 yards with my 56 wedge .Any advise will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
Are you conscious of any hand manipulation through the ball or are you more “quiet hands” with body type release?
Thanks 🤗
Keep the videos coming babe

I like it, gotta practice it.
Did u write ✍️ a book yet with pictures 📸...I want one... excellent lesson 👏..

Will moving the hands forward a little and opening that face cause you to slice and push shots?
Are you going to build an outdoor putting green at the new house?
I’m steeper with my short irons, more shallow with long irons & even more shallow with driver. I’m a 4 hcp.
nice shoes
Great video. Can't wait for the next dance video since you're wearing your new Fred Astaire shoes. :-)
You use graphite shafts in your irons & wedges?
So 20 yard gap between PW & 9i?
All the… most of… some of the time. 😂 Gotta be honest right?! Great video as always.
Going to try hitting my 7 iron with my wedge swing and see how that goes
my problem is i dont use much wrist hinge. need to practice that. thank you.
LOL lose the clown shoes! (Love your channel)
