    Apparently, the thumbs down people prefer continuing to skull and chili-dip their wedges. Eric is one of the best on RUclips and I am so glad I found him. His 10 and 4 drill had me hooking the ball off the planet which helped me learn proper swing path and forearm and wrist action. Now I can hit nice baby draws and my slices and weak fades are a distant memory. Love the solid ball striking I am achieving,

    @ruudengelhart5127 3 года назад +1

    Erik, can you help sum up the main differences with a full swing (non-wedge)? Things I can think of:
    1. Because you want more compression with a full swing you keep the clubface closed.
    2. In transition the clubface closes even more when shallowing out the club. Because of this you need to lower some amount with your body in the downswing in order to prevent topping. A wedge shot is more stable and all shoulder turn.
    3. A full swing would require more forward motion compared to a wedge shot in order to increase power.
    Other stuff I am missing?

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  3 года назад

      That sounds about right!
      Of course the setup is quite different.
      In swing pieces you mention are good

    Thanks Chris for covering the fundamentals of hitting wedges. You did not mention what degree wedges to use but I carry 4 wedges- pitching wedge for 100 yards; gap wedge for 85; sand wedge for 70-75 yards; and 59 degree wedge with a wide bounce for yardage under 70 and for bunker shots. Would you recommend hitting a 65 degree wedge?

    • @CogornoGolf

      Thanks! I like to use 56* SW for all shots 30-110.

    Many thanks for all your videos - they're really helping me enjoy my golf more. One thing I've never understood about wedges is whether we should aim to compress the ball as with other irons or try to use the bounce to slide the club under the ball?
    In you iron videos you talk about flexing the lead risk and supinating with body rotation to compress the ball and ensure solid contact. Should we be trying to do this with wedges too? You dont make a point of it in this video for instance. Particularly if we're trying to build a system that incorporates both wedge and say a 9 iron to take us to 150yds, it would be good to know if we should be aiming for the same wrist work and swing with both wedges and irons.
    Hope the above makes sense. Many thanks in advance for your advice.

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  5 лет назад +1

      I would say bounce up to about 50 yards, then more compression style beyond that.
      1. Should you be flexing and rotating with wedges....not as much inside 50, no.
      2. Outside of 50, if you need more of it....yes.

    Hi paul here, since covid19 lock up something you did not have I can chip well on the range 6 wedges 4 balls each 24 perfect hits, now on the course I have put weight on yes but I feel like I'm in a corset my body feels tight only when I chip . or wedge play and although today will be my 7th round back I am thinking of giving it up as I do not hit the ground I hit the centre of the ball and a nailed on par becomes a no score or 7 or 8 it is not dangerous to other golfers but soul and confidence destroying for me. I would have a lesson but not while covid19 is here and my 2nd jab is not far off then I will consider it. But by then I may be better than some pros YEAH not a chance. ON THE MASTERS I COULD GARENTEE WATER EVERY TIME . WE USED TO PLAY FOR A £1 BUT IF WE DID SINCE COVID19 I WOULD BE £7 DOWN ALREADY

      I like to keep things neutral.
      Chipping around the green inside 30 yards slightly weaker than normal can be beneficial (face more open, more bounce)

    I'm a scratch or I was until 3-4 months ago when completely out of nowhere in the middle of a round... The chip/pitch yips showed up and are still a prob to this day. My GHIN is now 4.1. I have days and times of pure clips where Nothing goes wrong until I yip one across the green or 2 yards in front of me and it's back too the drawing board. I've watched so many videos and plenty of them have worked but it NEVER sticks. It's so embarrassing and bad that if I miss a green my anxiety shoots through the roof and obviously that's never going to help. I'm so stressed and frustrated that I've considered quitting but can't. This sport got me my college education and at one time was the source of my income and now a Stupid straight forward pitch can give me hives. I've started to change the entire way I play. Never wanting any less than 85 yards for fear of the yips and that's not a fun way to play for me. I'm not Bryson but I avg 307 carry with my drives and can't take advantage of that. After viewing your chipping / wedge videos and practicing your methods, my chipping has improved greatly. I still struggle with extreme uphill or downhill lies, especially within 20 yards of the green. It would be great if you could produce an instructional video for these type of shots.

    Here’s a question you may have some interest in addressing: How do you decide whether you want to make a low medium or high pitch shot?

      Hey Ron!
      Good question.
      1. You should always play the shot that YOU can best perform. Play the odds.
      2. Medium is good 90% of the time....atleast.
      3. Low would be to a back pin with a lot of green and no ridges to fly.
      4. Low could also be front pin with fairway in front
      5. High would be over an obstacle like bunker
      6. High could be to a back pin OVER a ridge
      That would be a good starting point

    James Brey below commented on the distraction with the players in the background. I wonder about the dress code at the Bethlehem Club.A collared shirt would help. Great content in the video however.

    This is good, but can you fix my slice in just 15 swings?

    How annoying with those two people in the background. Can’t you ask the driving range people to ask people to use the other end of the range !!! During your shoot .

      Hey James! Lol..would be nice right!
      We are very lucky to have a golf club that is really good to us and provides us to much benefit! They still need to make money!
      Unfortunately we cannot move people, just lucky to have a range to use in the first place!
      Hope you enjoyed the video
