    Honestly this is one of the best chipping/wedge explanations available. Your explanation and key points of reference with Andrew are fantastic. His concept about planes landing on a runway are mind-altering in the best way. I am now thinking about chipping in a different way, with your advice on stance and to bring the club straight or outside but never inside. Not digging the club, just keeping the plane on the runway. Your enthusiasm for the game and for the guests you incorporate on the show is fantastic.

    It’s a good video Eric. Orthodox form of pitching. For me personally the maestro for pitching is Lee Trevino. Arguably one of the best wedge players ever. His instruction on pitching talks about riding the pony. He learnt that from Mr Ballesteros. That way you have no chance whatsoever of shanking the ball. By the way played my first round following your video instruction on left hip around and right shoulder down. Shot gross 69 net 59. Not bad for a ten handicapper! The course was relatively short and tight but still got to put the score together. Thank you keep up the great videos and look at the Trevino pitching video. 😊🏌️‍♂️👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

    Excellent instruction! I practice 50, 70-75, 80-85 yd pitching all the time. Thanks to EC I changed which wedges I use now. Instead of trying to hit a wedge as far as possible I use less loft and strive for accuracy in regards to distance and direction. My wedges are 58, 54, 50 and 46. For most pitches up to 75 yds I use my 54. My shot dispersion is very narrow. I do struggle with distance because I tend to hit fat shots. As for the statement you can't stand too close to the ball for me I can't listen to that advice. My bad shot is the shank and I've been able to reduce those shanks considerably. I strive to swing the handle to the right (I'm lefty) with more body rotation and less hand release.

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  4 года назад

      Excellent, Dave! You are heading in the right direction my friend!
      If you continue to struggle with fat shots-go back and check the basics in our wedge videos (especially the masterclass ones)
      Setup pressure slightly forward, feet close, handle slight forward. Backswing on out slightly outside plane. Chest turn downswing

      @@CogornoGolf Thanks Eric! I also found that if I look at the front of the ball instead of the back I make better contact. I've also tried looking at a spot a couple of inches in front of the ball. Once you get used to doing it the results are great.

    Great! This wedge play, can also apply to 50* for 70-80 yards, P for 90-100 yards, 9i for 100-110 yards … for average amateurs (not for pros and good amateurs)?

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  4 года назад +1

      Yes 100%.
      I would ALMOST always suggest someone take MORE club, not less when hitting shots inside 120

  • @mmckivigan

    Can you comment on the takeaway as it compares to say a full swing 7 iron take away? Would you still expect the left hand just past right thigh before going up checkpoint or is it going up a little earlier? I guess the question is this takeaway a little different than a full swing or the same and the swing is just an abbreviated full swing?

    When are you supposed to chip the ball (50 yard)? When are you supposed to pitch the ball (50+)? And the clubs I'm supposed to be using? I am an Amateurs.

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  Год назад +1

      Hey Mark!
      There are a number of variables to assess in terms of making the best club selection for a given shot (lie, grain, wind, how you want the ball coming into the green etc.).
      Ideally, your lob wedge and sand wedge would have different bounces and grinds to give you the most versatility in your shotmaking from a wide variety of lies.
      I would look at all shots inside of 30 yards as being a "chip/pitch" shot. All shots 30 yards and in is where opening up your wedge to varying degrees and using the bounce is most relevant.
      30-50+ yard shots would be where you are gradually going more into a normal, full swing type of contact with the leading edge. 30+ yards is also ideally where you would start using a distance control system (anything inside of 30 yards would just be "feel" based).
      Here are a couple of resources for you!
