THANK YOU Trevor. I've sucked at this shot my whole life. I've done my head in & I have HONESTLY spent hundreds of hours on trying to flight my wedges lower. After watching your video I went to the range & I did everything you said & it worked immediately. I flighted my wedges beautifully the entire session. I almost started crying because of all the pain and effort I went through trying to hit this shot & it never eventuated. Thank you once again.
So cool to hear your success with this! Can’t begin to tell you how happy this makes me when I hear success stories like this. I’m sorry the amount of previous time and efforts you put into this prior. Glad this helped out, thank you for the feedback and please let me know if you ever need anything!
@@tsgolfpracticed flighted wedges again yesterday & they continued to come out low with tons of compression. Compressing a golf ball was a totally foreign feeling. God it feels great to compress a golf ball. I'm taking a lot of your other lessons on board too. Thanks so much again.
@@tsgolf My only swing thought these days is - Arms are faster than the body + less tension in arms + body. I have played the best golf of my life. Crazy how one thought can stop you from committing so many mistakes in golf swing. I will also add that the swing thought is exactly in Trevor Saltzman voice - infact the word used in a video is etched in my brain "lackadaisical" Great work man! Appreciate the videos.
I appreciate this drill so much! I had been struggling with my wedges and this was exactly what needed. I worked 2 hrs on the range and played the following weekend. I had a birdie a d chip in eagle and shot a 78. Keep the videos coming. I'm subscribed! Would love to also see a video on teeing the driver higher.ive been hitting bombs doing that but I need to refine my technique.
Thanks so much for sharing! I’ll add the driver video to my list for sure! Glad to hear this helped out and thanks for the comment and feedback here! 🙏🙏🙏
Incredible! I was just working on this at the range last night. I have a tendency to get my launch angle too high. I understand the concept of placing the hands forward at address to help compress, but appreciate the emphasis on closing the face a bit so as to not swing open. Anxious to try this tonight!
@ thank you sir 🙏 have been approaching the hole nicely through my last few rounds then absolutely failing at 40 - 90yards. Something about the short length of the short irons just throws my whole swing off. Topping, chunking, flipping, hooking, shanking… just pure enjoyment out there. Results in half the card being doubles
Thanks Trevor, I finally found a channel where the instructor cares about explaining the what, how, and why. Will the ball spin/bite or role out when it hits the green? Can you do a lesson on releasing the club for a standard golf swing? I'd like to know how to release naturally...I mess up being efficient by either flipping, rolling or throwing. Thx man🤛
Thanks so much! Means a lot to hear this! The what, why and how is everything in my opinion! This shot should have a good amount of spin on it (lands on the green, takes a hop or two and then checks). Will also add a release pattern vid to the mix next time I shoot content! Thanks again!
4:15 hello sir, I like the idea of closing it down for wedges. My question to you is this all of my irons I feel do not penetrate to the Target. I was curious if you could do a video from pitching wedge to let’s say six irons with the same concept, I have no trouble hitting the ball very hard at a pretty good distance. I do not believe it is maximize because of how hard I hit the ball I’d be interested to see the relationship of the close faced for the mid irons. Thank you.
You could do this with other clubs but I wouldn’t grip the face as closed. A lot of geometry wise would depend on what your actually ball flight is and current geometry is on a stick shot (is the path into our, out to in, or on plane). Happy to help anyway I can!
Hello , I was hoping that you can implement a side view camera as you build your channel. It is great to see down the line, but side view especially for impact scenarios gives a complete view and understanding of how the club covers the ball. I have tried this wedge flighting set up it is working. And I have tried it with other clubs. It seems to help. Perhaps you can add a second video (part 2) to this lesson soon. Keep up the great information.
@@danraymond6025 I will certainly be adding another camera angle in the future for these videos. Hopefully sooner than later! I’ll add this topic to future content I shoot as well and do a recap / addition on how we can use this for other clubs and shots as well!
The setup would change and the club face angle at address would likely change and there could be more of an upward release pattern (extending the lead wrist) combo’d w/ spine extension (a lot of this can be changed thru the setup process though). I’ll add this to my list of vids!
I’m mad that I’ve never thought about pre closing the face of the club prior to setup. I always just tried to hold off or cover the ball even more. Can’t wait to try this out!
super awesome tutorial.. covering pretty much all my concerns re wedges.. I'm totally into Trevor's swing style and teaching method.. so concise and easy to comprehend. Just a quick question if you want to volume down the wedge swing for chipping, would I narrow down stance with chipping around the green, say >50 yards? Many thanks.
You could narrow it a bit, could also add a bit of knee flex and grip down on the club more as well. Make the club shorter when possible. This will allow you to feel “LOW & LOW” in the backswing and follow through! Thanks!
Thank you - great in depth pointers! how do I think about dialing in distance? if I accelerate around club parallel and feel the club dropping prior to that then it doesn't seem possible to use the clock system.. so is it just feel, or is there anything else to guide?
A clock system is great if the player can hit the actually spots. If that doesn’t work, use a feel based system designed around 4 feel lengths (1 shortest, 2 mid, 3 which is 3/4 and 4 is full). I’ve also use hip, rib, shoulder as lengths and then adding the fullest shot. Hope this helps! TS
Came back to this video to refresh myself after our lesson from a few months ago - this is absolute $$$! You slightly touched on this in the video but would you hit full PW shots like this? or basically use this kind of shot for 3/4, 1/2, and down shots only (for all wedge types)?
Tremendous lesson Trevor. Really been working on feeling those feet pressures. So even though this is a lower ball flight with a sand wedge it is going to have increased range but more stopping power due to the ball sticking to the middle of the face? With my lofted wedges the ball goes a million miles in the air on a full swing and very short
Correct this will be more flighted down with this but the shots should land on the green and stop fairly quickly do to increased friction at impact. Low launch and high spin! If you struggle w/ hitting it to high, take small doses of this setup into some of your iron shots to try! Thanks, TS
Would use this out of most any fairway lie (downhill, uphill or side hill). Could use this out of the rough as well with good kid. If the ball is sitting down will need add a bit more hinge to come in steeper. Out the rough the ball won’t spin as much so good option for back pins w/ green to work with.
I’d say this is more so around fairway shots and mild rough. Thick rough would be difficult to say how you’d need to play it because the lie determines so much of it
Great explanation and demo. Question. This seems like it requires a reasonable lie with turf under the ball. You don’t talk about the bounce so I assume you’ve used so much shaft lean that the bounce is a non factor? Off a bare lie or soft lie is there a danger of the leading edge digging in?
This is absolutely more leading edge! How we control the turf interaction is with the amount of extension that we have through the shot (more so ribcage area and keeping the shoulders moving). Shouldn’t dig when we get that right! If you keep the chest down to long, then it’ll have the analogy to dig more
Obviously, this flights the ball lower. Does it also produce more spin than using a club that has the similar loft with your hands in normal position (not as far forward)? I feel that the flighted wedge ignores the bounce and I normally would take a less lofted club and make sure that I have enough bounce to not dig in. Or is the bottom of the swing far enough in front of the ball that you don’t dig in (fat) and more likely to hit thin?
Friction will create spin in this case (low launch and high spin). The wedge is still designed from a bounce stand point to get you into the turf and then out of it! Multiple uses for bounce. Completely understand where your thought process is w/ the bounce and using less lofted club to play the shot. This is also an option for a certain shot type I’d use/ teach. The more options we have, the more powerful we become! Thanks and pleas let me know if you need anything or have any questions!
Been looking for this kind of instruction! Thank you. I see all the audio comments, I am an audio engineer and film maker and you had some kind of intermittant connection issue. You could actually fix this video, it will take some time, but you could simply over-dub all your vocals; i.e., watch the video and re-record everything you said and thus create a new audio track. You won't need super precision to lip synch, the content is what is important, not the visual. You would be surprised at how many voice over-dubs are done in film vs the live take.
