No country, anywhere, does things so well, any procession,no matter what,no matter where in the country. Nothing comes, remotely close,to just how well the British do things. Full uniforms,Police,Army, dogs, horses, public everywhere, brassbands etc. Always an amazing spectacle.
'Police convoys' are escorted by the Met's Special Escort Group. That's likely either UK royalty or a senior foreign leader, hence the band giving way.
Soldiers generally don’t salute Police as you clearly know and have correctly stated. You will see Old Soldiers now serving in the Met Police correctly saluting King’s and Regimental Colours as they pass. It was likely there was a member of the Royal Family aboard given the types of cars and the police escort. Troops on Public Duties get to know the Royal Vehicles very quickly. Also, the Mall is clearly closed at this moment to normal traffic. Any emergency services responding and who feel obliged to use here would have radioed to the Police escort for the Guard/Band why they are approaching and if there is Royalty aboard. This allowing the Guard/Band to take appropriate action. This is the only time the Guard/Band would give way as Marching Groups of Soldiers have right of way over all vehicles according to the Highway Code. This is standard practice and is unlikely to have changed since I was doing this. I hope this helps answer your question Sir. Thanks and all the best😊 Ian
We're from Merseyside and he went to sign on in the Grenadiers, our dads old regiment. Recruiting Sergeant was a Mick and signed him up there and then into the Irish. I wanted to be Welsh Guards or infantryman in the King's or Cheshire regiment myself, but joining at 15 almost 16 into the boys army, my old lady wouldn't sign the papers unless I went into the Sappers, which I did.
The people lining the street didn't watch it, they were looking at their phones. The first time they'll see it is watching it on their phones, so they might just as well have stayed at home and watched this video.
Nice video. The gait of the Wolfhound matching his owner is incredible. But the one thing to pull from this video is the silence. The Mall is normally bustling with people and noise but those present were respectful of the circumstances.

No. The Garda is the Irish Police. These are Irish Guards, a Regiment of the British Army with a long and glorious history.
