  • Gibraltar has now officially recognised King Charles as its new monarch and head of state, with the Governor Sir David Steel making the public proclamation at The Convent at midday on Sunday.
After Sir David read the text of the proclamation (below), there was a 21-gun salute fired from Devil’s Gap Battery in the Upper Rock nature reserve, led by Gibraltarian Major Charles Bonfante.
Outside the Governor’s official residence, the Royal Gibraltar Regiment (RG) band then played God Save the King. As onlookers filled the pavements to take in the atmosphere on this historic occasion, the Governor then led a ‘three cheers’ for His Majesty the King which reverberated around Convent Place.
The band of the Royal Gibraltar Regiment played God Save The King.
The ceremony was presided over by the Governor, with Chief Minister Fabian Picardo and other dignitaries joining him on The Convent's balcony.
The new Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Matt Moore then led a proclamation parade onto Main Street. The tri-service guard also included the Royal Navy and Royal Air Force personnel. The public applauded as the Royal Gibraltar Police, Gibraltar Defence Police, HM Customs, the Gibraltar Fire & Rescue Service, the Airport Fire & Rescue Service, HM Prison, Borders & Coastguard Agency and the Gibraltar Ambulance Service then marched off.
The event was broadcast live by GBC television & Radio Gibraltar.
** The text of The Proclamation of King Charles III in Gibraltar **
Whereas it has pleased Almighty God to call to His Mercy our late Sovereign Lady Queen Elizabeth the Second of Blessed and Glorious Memory, by whose Decease the Crown is solely and rightfully come to The Prince Charles Philip Arthur George:
I, David George Steel, Governor and Commander-in-Chief of Gibraltar do now hereby with one voice and Consent of Tongue and Heart publish and proclaim that The Prince Charles Phillip Arthur George is now, by the Death of our late Sovereign of Happy Memory, become our only lawful and rightful Liege Lord Charles the Third, by the Grace of God of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and of His other Realms and Territories, King, Head of the Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith, to whom we do acknowledge all Faith and Obedience and humble Affection; beseeching God, by whom Kings and Queens do reign to bless His Majesty with long and happy Years to reign over us.
Given at Gibraltar this 11th Day of September in the year of our Lord 2022.
    God Save The King.

As you saw the moment she died with the double rainbow, she already is smiling down on you! Don't worry, your nation and Commonwealth will carry on like never before. As an American I always had a nationalistic disdain for monarchism but this time, seeing the traditions play out and just how far our country has fallen, it's much different for me. Ceremonies like these in Gibraltar and other parts of the world, as well as the monarchy, are fixed. My country really had something sacred but we've just gone over to trolling and disgusting politics, fascism, etc. I hate what has happened to us and I hope we can get what we had back. Be grateful you have survived so much and still have your revered national spirit, I'm afraid in a matter of years we're going to become the white trash version of a monarchy, more like an African dictatorship, but you will still have your king and your peace.

As an American we admire this unbelievable history taking place in front of us. It's a once in a lifetime event. Perhaps what amazes me the most is the utter seriousness and dedication the British people and the Commonwealth countries are now dedicating their allegiance to their "liege lord". It's amazing and somehow fascinating that such things as monarchs do and can exist in the age we live in. King Charles III is indeed blessed.

    • @Awakeningspirit20

I feel the same, given how far our country has fallen yet their traditions are not yet bastardized by politics, trolling, classlessness. I once, as an American, felt a lot of distain and disgust for the monarchy we separated ourselves from but things are different now, seeing it all in front of me, history being played out. I'm sad to announce that we as Americans have killed off whatever sacredness we once had. We relied on democracy and Constitution-based traditions to give us identity, but we have attacked them. I now feel this affinity for these monarchical traditions that invoke God and such continuity. The Brits and Commonwealth are doing fantastically with this hard transition and taking it in spades, that's what's the most impressive to me. Americans can't accept anything anymore, the Brits are still going strong.

    • @justonecornetto80
      @justonecornetto80 Год назад +10

@@Awakeningspirit20 The monarchy is a great unifier for us Brits precisely because it`s above politics.
In times of national joy and sadness we are drawn toward our head of state rather than abusing each other over political ideology. An insult toward our monarch is an insult to us all. If the monarch is hurt, we are all hurt. The monarch is a living breathing representation of our history and who we are as a people.
The difficulty at the moment however is that we`re supposed to celebrate the ascension of a new King while enduring the overwhelming loss of a beloved Queen that made this country tick for 70 years.
We`ll get over it in time but things will never be the same again.

Queen Elizabeth was a true leader with deep sense of dedication and passion for the nations especially of the common wealth. We love you and you will be greatly missed.
We commiserate with the Royal family and His majesty King Charles III and we pray the grace through this time and your remaining years of service to humanity.
