Can we take a moment to realize how impressive the C17 Globemaster is?! They stuffed a helicopter, other pieces of heavy equipment plus people inside the C17. And it takes off without the need of a full runway! C17 is an amazing aircraft!

I live near March Reserve base in Riverside, CA and see the Globemasters daily. One departed right in front of us yesterday with a steep climb. Very cool.
I used to drive past this air strip when I lived in London and I never ever thought a plane of this size could land there let alone take off, incredible!
If it's landing then it has to be able to take off otherwise who want to be stuck.... And also takeoff and landing are both equally proportional to weight

You wouldn't think it, would you?! The C17 is the largest plane one will see at RAF Northolt on the odd occasion they bring something in or out. The C17 is designed to land and take off on the shortest of runways. Commercial aircraft of a similar size can not do this. All though it's worth noting we have recently had the new UK VIP Airbus A321 Neo landing here.

I thought my skills at reversing a truck and trailer combination was pretty impressive... But reversing parking a C-17 Globemaster is definitely a few levels up.

It is impressive and I have seen it at many air shows here in the U.S. What is even more impressive and a bit scary is the C-17 can open its reverse thrusters at cruise. If it needs to get down in a hurry, it can.

First time I see a fixed wing aircraft that reverses off the runway
I was just thinking that!
C-17 party trick, been doing that for as long as it’s been in service. If it goes quiet from the chap on the rear ramp, you’ve hit something expensive with something also expensive. Or they fell off.
It's just like backing a car into a parking space!
That must be the Italian version, 1 forward gear, 3 reverse gears.....OK, I'll get my coat.
It took me a couple of minutes to understand that the plane was backwards.
0:25 so nice to know that the Secret Service brought their own ambulance van/truck with them, and fully bulletproof of course.

I kept replaying the Olympus Has Fallen 2 movie in my head.
That is a much smaller motorcade than normal. I saw the president in NYC and he had at least 45 vehicles that time. So I can see this is a subdued visit for the Queen.

Sorry but there was nothing 'subdued' about this visit. Just the usual Yank ego tripping and power projection in total disregard for the sad occasion that everyone else respected. They arrived by bus because it was safe to do so. Not the Yanks oh no.
What you see here is just ONE C-17 for ONE Marine One helicopter and whatever else it needs that was never used. 3 other C-17s went to RAF Mildenhall to collect the two 'beasts', all the other cars, trucks, fuel blah blah that they deem 'necessary'. FOUR C-17 AIRCRAFT!
And then there was Air Force One and Air Force Two as well.
Smaller? I think not.
There was barely space for what he brought on our tight little island; the only other person who feels the need for this sort of security here is Harry's wife, and she forgot to ask the White House if she could borrow it..

There were no flags because they were leaving Stansted having delivered the President to catch AF1. Nothing to do with respect for anyone. In fact many of us think the fact all this was needed by the Americans was highly disrespectful given London was THE safest city in the world last 2 weeks.

The C-17 Globemaster III aircraft is capable of turning in a small radius and can complete a 180° star turn in 80ft. It can also carry out routine backing. A fully loaded aircraft is capable of backing up a 2% gradient slope using the directed flow thrust reversers.

The C-17 Globemaster of the US Air Force is a serious work-horse.
The best protection for the president would be to use this entire fleet as a decoy while he sits in a normal, blended In traffic, slightly tinted car with a few secret servicemen.
