      Yeah, these bonus tracks are really good. I don't know why they are not on the album that should have been a double record. Tony has a history of not putting really good songs on albums. And they are mostly his own compositions. There are several great tracks that are not on And Then There Were Three and Duke. I have most of them on the B sides of British singles. I'm annoyed that I have to buy CDs of albums I already have just to get those bonus tracks that I already have on singles and EPs.

    Run Out of Time: Wow, this is a Genesis I never knew even existed... Apart from a few familiar "banksian" chord sequences, the rest of the song is so different from their style - and that includes all eras. What a beautiful song! No wonder we're all scratching our heads wondering why it was not included on the CAS album. Great find! 🐝

      Spectacular song! Glad you agree with me and that it was also a new discovery for you as well 😊 One of life's mysteries..would love to ask Tony why! Have a beautiful week ahead!

      @@retroreactions....Like I said in another reply, Tony has a history of excluding great songs from being on albums. The best ones are The Day The Light Went Out, Vancouver, Evidence Of Autumn, and Naminanu. All great songs not on And Then There Were Three, Duke, and Abacab. From what I hear, there was enough to make Abacab a double album. I have Naminanu on a 12" single.

    Great to hear these B-Sides! “Run Out of Time” is clearly my favorite of the eight tracks. I really like the sax sound, especially at the end. “Sign Your Life Away” is definitely a bit more rockin’. I’m sure you’ll have a great lineup for us this coming week. 😊

    You should do the other 6 bonus tracks, they're all great. Don't miss out on the quirky Banjo Man or the epic Anything Now.

    The more I listen to these B-sides/outtakes, the more I think Calling All Stations should have been a double album, or at least swap out some tracks on the album (Small Talk and Alien Afternoon are ones I could never get on with, personally) and replace them with some of these outtakes (Sign Your Life Away is probably my personal favourite of the non-album tracks).

    • @drmagic60
      @drmagic60 17 дней назад +2

      They could have easily made this into a double album. I’m with you on “Small Talk”, but “Alien Afternoon” is one of my favorites from the album. That’s why there’s enough music to go around to please everyone.

      Hello. A great idea, but I'm glad at least these tracks are out there on RUclips to enjoy. I'll have to hear the other 6 eventually. Thanks so much for watching and being first here today! 🥇

    Great reaction Mr Brandon; I agree with the comments about these tunes sounding a little different than what we are used to hear from Genesis but nevertheless they are still great to listen to; thanks for the reaction my friend 👍

    It is very hard to understand why these two tracks were not on the album. Ray Wilson saidin an interview that he was surprised when "Run out of time" was not included. Genesis did this a number of times on their later albums. Their were tracks that were excluded from "We Can't Dance" and "Abacab" that should of been part of the final chosen songs. In my opinion these excluded tracks would of improved these albums. In my opinion "Abacab" should of had "The Dodo Suite" and "You Might Recall" and We Can't Dance should of had "On the Shoreline" and "Hearts of Fire" Some may say that better tracks were left off the "Invisible Touch" album also. I still love all their albums and its only my personal preferrence. Another great reaction. Many Thanks Gerald

    My favorite "B" side songs from Genesis are, Submarine and 7/8. I wish they could have made it on a major album. I don't even know where I can buy these songs.

  • @79BlackRose

    Thank you for introducing me to these songs for the first time. The latter was fine but I feel it doesn't really threaten anything chosen for the album. But the former is something else! Run Out of Time fits the album so well, yet also retaining a unique sound from their back catalogue. That should have been on the album, no question. Most definitely the platinum award!

    Run Out Of Time should have been on the album. Maybe the sax sound kept it out?(some traditional Genesis fans may have objected?). A theory only

    • @retroreactions....
      @retroreactions....  17 дней назад +1

      We're in full agreement there. Interesting theory. There's probably something to that, especially because the song in general is sort of in a different lane than usual Genesis...Happy Sunday!

    Wow, two Genesis tracks I’ve never heard. Thanks, Brandon. Sign Your Life Away sounds a bit like Asia rather than Genesis but I liked the low guitar chords powering through it. Run Out Of Time was interesting and the keyboard saxophone was new. These two tracks further demonstrate they were trying to move into new direction.

    Love those 2 songs. Run out of time should have been on the album (instead of small talk). Only regret that the songs sounds more like a good demo, but they couldn't hire a saxophone player to play on a demo. If they have chosen it to be onthe album, hope they had hired a saxophone player. They had done this on Abacab with No reply at all and Paperlate (Bside).
    There are other very good b-sides from CAS to discover : Anything now, 7/8, Phret, Banjo man, Nowhere else to run.

    The sax is not a sax , is a keyboard. I think that Genesis could it have hired a saxophonist to play that part. It's not a difficult melody. There are plenty of performers to do it. It would have been much more "honest" for the song. It sounds like a beginner's keyboard.

  • @MattLathrum
    @MattLathrum 17 дней назад +2

    Sign Your Life Away should have been on the album (except the record scratches lol). It's stronger than a couple of those that got on. But I never liked Run Out of Time - that keyboard sax sounds amateurish, a very unfortunate choice from Tony.
