    Hahns have the personality and intelligence of a Blue and Gold, in the size of a conure. (Little bigger). I got to hand feed these guys when I worked for a lady who used to breed them, as well as Red Bellied parrots and Eclectus parrots. I'll have a Hahns some day when I have a house where I can have my bird out with room, vs having to keep him/her in a cage all the time

    😊 for all your videos! My husband and I are binge watching your videos. They are really great. We have a 3 year old Senegal that has never really met another bird. We are thinking about fostering parrots. We are trying to learn more about parrot body language and certain species. Hoping our bird does not hate other birds. And your Hahns is adorable!

    • @ParrotBliss
      @ParrotBliss  2 года назад +2

      Yay! thanks for binge watching! Senegals can be like that, almost independent, but when they are out of their cage they seem to ‘hang’ with the other birds. Fostering sounds wonderful! We just adopted a couple rescues - and of course, our favorite rescue has a plucked Hahn’s. They often come with challenges, but I think it’s worth it. Adult parrots have some advantages, like being established, which is easier than making sure a new baby grows up eating, playing, learning to be around other people/birds and such. Keep me updated as to what you foster.

    lol yeah as a Hahn's Macaw I can relate to this video... our Max is now 6 months old. He can be very loud but not often. He loosing a lot of his baby feathers atm. we feed him a mix of pellets and fresh fruits and veg. we keep the seeds for treats for training... he absolutely LOOOOOVE sunflower seeds. he also loves putting his head in our hands so we can pet the back of his neck. He does do this low sound (like four litle squak) together with a slight movement of his wings a lot. We think it is because he's still young but we're not sure really.
    He loves being with us. He is quite touchy, loves the contact. He are working on him accepting for us to touch his wings so we can put a harness on him. His recall is also quite good. For now all his time is in our house. We do have a green check conure, just a month older than him... they don't get along too well but we try to let both of them out at the same time supervised obviously as one or the other will start a conflict... Max our Hahn sometimes goes towards her with his neck down like a sign of submission but not sure what that means...
    Everything you said in that video is so true as we can relate to it with our 6 months old Max.

      Max sounds wonderful! Yes, my impression is that Max is trying to become friends with your Green-cheek. Make sure to continue to spend lots of time with both of them. They are both social birds that require a lot of ‘being part’ of the family/flock. I would guess that they will become better friends, both birds, as they get older. Please let me know. And, how wonderful that you are going to harness train him! I think the stimulus of going out is so good for them!

      @@ParrotBliss Hi well while Nika our GCC is still as goofy as ever and all is well with her bar the harness training as she flew off when the harness was nearly on her but she got cough in it and freaked out. We're back to square one to desensitise the harness with her and she is slower but ok. Our biggest problem is Max our Hahn and I'm writing to you as you also have a Hahn which not many people have. We go so attached to them both but we are worried lately as he flew 3 times against a window and ended up on the floor. We picked him us straight away but his behaviour has changed even in his cage as he looks hesitant to move in his cage, he tend to spend a lot of time on a perch or on our hand without moving as he used to and he doesn't want to fly anymore. he doesn't look injured as I did a quick check but not being an expert we booked a vet appointement to be sure. It feels to us that his confidence is really down atm. He still does like to be on our hand and at times he flaps his wings as if he was about to fly off but tighten his claws on my hand to ensure he doesn't. So we stopped the training and try to reassure him - he likes to cuddle against our hand and doesn't move much in his cage. He still goes to his food ball and water ball and like yours still drop some of his pellets in his water ball. but he spends far more time on his perches or ropes without moving. Would you have any suggestions for us. Obviously our daughter is getting really worried and though we are reassuring her we are worried too. He is still young and we remain hopeful and we take him out of his cage to be with us every day so he doesn't feel isolated.

    • @ParrotBliss
      @ParrotBliss  2 года назад

      @@glouisfr i’m so sorry to hear about this - I’m glad you’re taking him to the vet. How long has it been since he flew into the window? I wouldn’t expect his behavior to be so affected unless he was hurt. I understand why your daughter is worried, I am too. You were, of course, wise to temporarily stop the flight training. I would just coddle him and continue to spend time with him, like you are. Hopefully you’ll learn some thing at the vet. On the other hand, if it’s only been one day, he might just be recuperating. It’s just that it sounds like it’s been more than a day. But, I’m not sure.

    • @glouisfr
      @glouisfr 2 года назад +1

      @@ParrotBliss probably just a week ago. He did fly into a window before but recovered rather quickly like within few minutes. But now it's been nearly a week and while we had an appointment set for today they cancelled it so we had to find another vet to bring him to as we didn't want to wait any longer. My wife dropped him at the vet this morning and we're waiting news...nervously. Both are our daughter's birds but working from home I did spend a lot of time with him as he loved flying around and spending time on my shoulder while I was at my desk and then I did all the training with my daughter. I had no interest in birds before bar just admiration but I think I got quite attached to Max. He's still so young and probably paid the price for our inexperience. I can see since he was far more quiet, staying for hours on one perch and I could see he was not confident moving in his cage which is worrying me. He is eating, and drinking but even when we offer him a sunflower see which he loves he just looks at it - he has some light squawk and a small jerking of his wing when we talk to him but he is dead calm otherwise... so worried.

    • @glouisfr
      @glouisfr 2 года назад

      @@ParrotBliss Hi, it is with a heavy heart that I give you an update on our Max. My wife brought Max to the vet and I'm glad we ended up with this new vet. They kept him on Friday and called us back earlier to say he is seriously sick. She had a discussion with us on what we feed him, toys he has in his cage. his cage activity. She ruled out any environment issue as she said it would have impacted Nika our GCC who is, in contrast, thriving. We only feed them pellets and fresh fruits and vegs, we spend at least an hour every day with them out of the cage and some time is used for training - no more than 5 mins sessions. She told us he is leaning more and more to the left and has less strength in his legs, he uses his beak to help him balance and move around. She gave him antibiotics and some painkiller, done pretty much all sort of test short of blood test as she said it is quite stressful for them and she is not sure in his condition it will make much of a difference as the analysis can only be done in the UK so it would take a fair amount of time to find any results. She is preparing us for the worse. She is not 100% but think it is neurological and not necessarily due to his recent hit on the windows as he was never comfortable flying. We're waiting for more update but I don't want him to suffer no matter what. Never thought I get so attached to a bird but the bond, affection, love and compilicty they give is just amazing.

    Why want a bird like Emerald? For me, she’s so cute! I’ve also heard that they need a lot of interaction and they are prone to plucking. I would love a Hahn’s but I would be concerned with the Caiques. They are know for being evil toward other species. My Caiques are very much like boomerangs, especially the 2 that are best friends. I’ve leaned to function with them hanging and climbing all over me. You’ve done a fantastic job with Emerald. She fits her name. She really is a jewel.😊

    • @ParrotBliss

      Keri has a Hahn’s too… Yes, they must be prone to plucking because the one at the Bird Gardens is plucked and Emerald plucks a bit on her back (has since before she came here). While Hahn’s are amazing, I agree. Caiques are the world and there isn’t much more room in the world for any other bird! Two of my Caiques I can’t let out, they attack my daughter and YNA. The other two are ok. When they are out, they don’t bother with Emerald or anyone else. They look for food, new toys, me -aka, something to nibble, explore and check out- or my tea to drink. Yum! Dirty-birds-tea! LOL
