Caique owners reply below! What has been your experience owning one?
Everything about a big bird, in a small bird body.
Big bird bites, big bird energy, big bird attention.
BUT; you also get big bird humor, big bird engagement, and big bird personality.
It seems like all that energy finds outlets in creative and otherwise chaotically hilarious behavior and play.
It's pretty much every up and down of big birds, in a small bird chassis that reached some form of critical avian energy density.
@@tnpcook "reached some form of critical avian energy density"
By far the best description I have literally ever heard.
@@Fivesaflock When the energy density goes critical, it manifests as a hopping caique, or a kugelblitz style black hole.
However, if the ensuing explosion overcomes gravity, it will instead expand to form a sulfur crested cockatoo, which may cycle it's fuel over a greater lifespan.
Parrots are pretty much astrophysics with feathers and a similar level of explosive noise.
I got one but he isn't near as difficult as difficult as yours lol.
I own a toddler on crack
My Caique is 9 months old. He was practicallly wild when we picked him up from the breeder. We've had him for 4 months now and he is the loveliest bird..ever! He is playful, loving, clever and relatively gentle now. Just took him a little while to learn to trust us and to learn how hard to bite so that it doesn't hurt us. He is a real lttle gem. If he bites a little too hard, I just gently tap his tail - he seems to understand this. We love him so much!
**casually plays with bird like they are a liquid**
I have 5 Caiques, two white bellied and 3 black headed. They are everything you said and more. Luckily my birds get along. They are fully flighted and are out most of the day. They each have their own oversized cage for naps, night and when I have to confine them when I’m not home or I’m cooking. I usually have one or all hanging off of me all day. I play with them and use foraging toys when they’re out. They can be noisy. I think it’s flock mentality. Yes, my toy budget is huge! I also feed chopped seasonal vegetables, fresh fruit and pellets at different times during the day. I would suggest that if someone thinks they want a caique to see if there’s a rescue close by to actually get to spend some time with one. There are usually caiques in shelters due to the fact people only see the beauty in the bird or videos of the cute antics. Caiques can be nippy and they can hurt. The other thing I don’t think you mentioned is they are little poop machines due to their high metabolism and activity level. Thank for talking about caiques. They are a very big bird in a small package..☺️
Thanks for sharing your experience! I CANNOT imagine having 5 Caiques. I think I'd lose my mind lmao. 1 is enough for me!
You most be a super human to live with 5 caiques EVERY SINGLE DAY! I could not handle that. You are a brave person
@Jan Kelley Having both BH and WB do you see a temperament difference? I have always held that the BH are not as much "people Birds" as the WB are. Not that they cant be, just that they are more driven to play or explore than to be with a person than the WB are.
William Parson, my Caiques do demonstrate some differences. My white bellied are very self confident when confronted with new things, people, and food. They also seem to be a bit more nippy. My black headed are beyond sweet with my husband and me. My black headed are also more noisy. One of them really never stops. She makes all kinds of sounds from normal caique sounds to imitating some of the wild birds, kisses, wolf whistles and laughing. They are a little reticent with all things new except toys. Like people they have their own personalities. I’m also fortunate in that they all get along. Hope that helps.
You mean your 5 caiques you let them out fly freely outside of your house? Wow... so they will come back every day never miss?
A woman got on the bus with a pet taxi. Soon the air was filled with the most beautiful sounds! Such a wonderful bubbly magical noise, it didn't squawk or screech... everyone was completely mesmerized. The owner said it was a caique parrot. I wondered if this is a typical trait of caiques.
My caique loves attention from other humans and will be on his bestest cutest loveliest behaviour when he's in public 😂 he's an angel when I take him in his backpack
If you want much of your life to revolve around a single bird and have pain tolerance...Then they earn a perfect score.
Feel like the 2.8 is a lil underrated but for the right reasons
What about cockatiels mine won’t stop biting me you need pain tolerance for tiels
@@paleoguy2165 yea I feel you on that I went through a rough patch when I first got my caique he was a pissy bird at first and I needed a real pain tolerance for him but he got through it and he’ll rarely bite me but it definitely takes awhile
@@epiccrocgaming1759 mine only lets me cuddle her when she’s on my shoulder. She won’t let me touch her otherwise becuase she’s angry and afraid of hands
I see this a lot I’ve had one for about 5 years now she’s very friendly and just likes to be on my shoulder I work an 8 hr day and she’s always happy to see me she is a bitty little turd but I’m a welder by trade so her bites are nothing really. I’m an introvert anyway so the attention thing is not a problem
this is the bird version of clint"reptile lmao
Haha
This is what I’ve wandered forever for
So true
I LOVE that, this channel and his are the best
So true xDDD, I'm not complaining tho
You did a brilliant job on this video. Everything you said was spot on! Being an owner of a black headed Caique, I can attest to it. 🐴
Saw a befitting sign:
"Donate Blood ... tease a Caique"
No he didn't he just took all of his ideas from Clint's Reptiles
So a few years back i gave my Caique an empty beer can to play with. Ihad no idea how he'd react to it. The empty can has become his mortal enemy and it doesnt matter where the can is, either in the middle of the room on the floor or in his cage, my bird spends hours and hours chasing and killing his cans. Its literally the best toy you can ever give your Caique. You should try putting an empty can in his cage, you and your bird wont be disappointed.
Mine loves cans too! But moreso just tries to rip the tab off then pushes it off an edge.
Empty water bottles are the same for mine!
I know it's an ancient comment, but worth noting. Heavy metals are toxic to birds. The aluminum can is likely fine, but don't play with aluminum foil, as it contains tin!.
Try flip flops 😂
@@tnpcookTin is not a heavy metal, nor is it in anyway toxic to animals.
Caiques are so crazy (but adorable)! I have lots of respect for anyone who can deal with them. I definitely don't have the energy or patience for a bird like that. :D
Wdym my caique is very quiet
@@Negrokiller80 I mean that they're so active! And mischievous for that matter. You really need to keep an eye on them. :)
@@Quetzaluki you are true but i have a caique
Caiques are incredible parrots to own. They have enormous personalities.
cuteness = 1000
They remind me so much of conures in their mannerisms and character/silliness 😄❤️
Aww look at your baby bird making all her happy monkey noises while you're shuffling her entire existence all over the place.
Can't wait for a big and mini Macaw review! Macaws are love!
I have two Caique brothers who are almost two years old. Very, very high energy and maybe it's because they're still young but they need to be monitored constantly otherwise they will find and destroy things they shouldn't. Your video was fantastic. Bigger cage the better (bar spacing important). They wrack up the bills with all the toys for sure and you really can't skimp on the toys because of how high-energy they are. Also, they are super smart and they continue to surprise me with the things they figure out. Your description of noise level was spot on. Usually quiet but they have their moments for 15 + minutes a day which consists of very LOUD screaming. Otherwise they are quiet birds. I love how open they are to trying new foods and they are generally fearless birds.
I own 4 Parakeets, they work out great for me. I think they are absolutely darling and since I am always occupied they do good without me constantly being with them as they have each other. They are also easy to handle, bites don't hurt (not to me anyways), easy to take care of and clean up after. The only downside to Parakeets is they get sassy vocally. They will have their loud moments where they are absolutely losing their minds especially while playing or if they see or hear something that alarms them or that they don't like and if you tell them to shush they just go to the edge of the cage look at you and squawk at you like they're telling you off. I love them so much it's hilarious they have such big personalities.
I love watching videos like this because I get to see a really cute bird and learn why they are the wrong bird for me. I really want to meet a caique though.
I worked with birds for a little bit. Our Greenwing Macaw "Buttons" was a bit of an asshole and would 100% obliterate any buttons you had on your shirt. A Blue and Gold Macaw who was mildy temperamental depending on the person. A pair of genius level IQ African Grey. A few other birds and finally... A White Bellied Caique. I absolutely loved that bird. He was always so happy to be handled and didnt seem to have an ounce of aggression in him. I was a little sad to see him go 😢 but happy he went to a good home
I’m very thankful for this video! Has answered a lot of questions! Think I’ll stick with a cockatiel 😂
Pernamently 😂😂😂 love your videos man!!! Keep up the stellar work 🙏🏼🫵🏼
And this is why your videos are so helpful. We strongly considered a caique but I have a feeling with our other species it may not be so good!!
This was incredibly helpful! Thank you!
You are bouncing him and flipping him every time you talk with your hands haha
I really love you video.. thank you so much for the information given..I really appreciate it.
Great advice!! He is gorgeous!!
Finally the truth about these Flying Pterodactyls!! I have 2 and they require sooo much time and money.. it’s almost like having kids.. also there is a time of year when families try to “reHome” them because they realize how vicious the caiques bite are and the mood swings of these birds..
Great videos!! I'll watch them all
Thanks for the support!
She's SO BEAUTIFUL. I have a female cockatiel and is a little beast! bites me, SCREECHES and is always moody. Your bird seems quieter than mine ! 😆
This video is very true. I’m so glad I got my amazon before getting my caique because oh boy they’re a handful😅 sometimes I wish I could have just 5 minutes without her crawling all over me but I guess that’s not gonna happen for the next 40 years.
Also I will say that they are very loud if you have two and not just one. My parents have one too. My mom think she have damaged her ears from our caiques actually. So get one and not two unless you don’t care about noise. But I will say that their energy level is difficult to keep up with if you don’t have two and they bite a lot in their play because they like to wrestle.
Just something to consider.
You called us “flockers” 😂 😂 😂
I love the ratings and honesty. When I think about it, of course this bird is a lot of work!
Chill parrots are nice and all but nothing beats a bit of wrestling with a caique.
Ive hade my caique for 3years now l cant get enough of him
Great vid, mate.
Did you start researching Caiques because of a funny video?
Did you get this series from clints reptiles I don’t mind it I’ve been looking for videos like this I hope you keep up this series
Yeah got the idea from them and back when I was researching birds, wished there was something like this as well.
yes
I wanted green cheek conure at the start but then i saw a video of a caique being silly and got myself a caique :>
Are you a fan of Clints Reptiles?
This is a great video and really hammered home to me, that I probably would not be able to properly care for a Caique they way they need/deserved to be treated. I was obsessed with them the last couple of months - as you said in the description it was via viral videos in most part - and really this video has just hammered it home, that if I did get a Caique it probably would not be fair on he/she and me to not be able to give it full attention because of work/life etc. Still though - I would like to try and arrange my life around having a parrot at some point, once I do alot of research/investigation in the future. Good video!
Glad to help! I've seen people who get caiques and not understand the time commitment with them. They're pretty difficult birds to care for than many other parrots.
Great video. I’ve owned a male Caique for 14 years and love him. But I would also agree with all you covered in this video.
I’m happy to see a new bird joined the flock. Birds are amazing. #FivesAFlock
We've had Sakura our Caique for a few years now. I think our flock of 5 is plenty ha ha ha!
My green cheek conure sounds like everything a caique is. A caique is my dream bird and one day I will be ready to own one but right now I have an IRN, GCC and a Quaker parrot. My GCC is very jealous and aggressive so I would not want to make things worse by having two birds like that! :P
Thank you soooo much I just played with my first Caique and immediately was set on bringing him home. Def was caught up in the pocket puppy mindset. Def will start with a diff bird and come back. Thanks for your knowledge!!!
You don't need to start with a different bird, just get the caique , And do your research, I own 3 , it's not the end of the world..
Yeah no way. Please don't, lol. always best to start out with a simple parrot or even a canary or finch :) the easiest starter parrots are budgies and cockatiels. And they are very emo birds, parrots are. So just bc it's a budgie doesn't mean it won't take over your life lol. If you have 2. They will depend on each other's comfort more than on yours, so it's a little easier emotion wise that way, but there's also fighting :P definitely nevertheless ever start out with ANY rainforest parrot or any speciality bird. Remember budgies and tiels can live 15 years :)
@@TheCandiceWang Don't tell ppl to get an animal they don't really want as practice for getting the one they really want , As I said I own 3 caiques it's not the end of the world.
@@streetfightervsxenoverse1832 They can be a handful and need time and constant attention, please don't tell people to get this bird without the pros and cons they are hard to maintain and all yes they are lovely creatures fun and all
@@mrghost5116 That's what research is for anyone can look up an animal they want as a pet and read about the pros and cons ..
Great video. Love your channel. Soon it will blow up :)
Hope so! Thanks for the support!
We have the same one for a year now. It's our first bird and it's awsome.
How’s it doing now? I’m thinking about getting one!
I am just watching Sakura in the background… lol I have a caique myself a orange headed and he is just like Sakura and laughs all the time he hops around so much
I love your fun parrot videos that give pros and cons of each species! I was hoping you could point me to info that you used to raise your bird Sakura and what tips and tricks worked for her. I know each bird has its own personality I was just curious about what worked for you. I recently got a 6 month old male white bellied caique and want to make sure I do a good job raising him giving him the boundries and interaction he needs. How did you work to get Sakura so handleable?
I have been working on some tricks and introducing him to some people who live outside of our household. Right now he seems to be willing to comply to the whims of whoever is holding a grape or walnut chunk 🤣
I have two caiques, one black head one orange head, i thought i’d go watch videos about them to further expand my knowledge. I do have one question. How do u deal with the pooping! lol, my parrots poop around every 10 min and i was wondering if theres a way to Yk increase it to 15 min? Also whats the best bar spacing in their cages?
I own one, great review. They need a lot of attention, but they're epic.
Do you clip your birds' wings? Love your videos!
Hope you can give a review about Quaker parrots! :)
I've had a WB Caique for 14 years. He is15 now.... Not to be critical, but one criteria You've left out is 'entertainment', where I've learned from mine goes 6 on your scale of 5.... And Yes,, he lets you know when he wants attention..... Great watching him roll around in the palms of your hands.... Thanks.
Your like client's reptiles but only birds lol
Amazing
Can you do a review of the canary winged parrot? Thanks
i really want to get one , i’ve had cockatiels and a green check conure , i think i have the experience, they are so smart , love them
Love my caique and would never consider giving her up, but my god she's the the most adorable little bipolar monster in existence. Luckily I've learned to read her body language and vocalizations and now know when to back off or change my approach before she uses that needle on her face to leave a small, sometimes bloody mark. Her cage is in my home office and I have perches and toys hanging from the ceiling and she uses every single one and goes to town, so if you don't want to actively play with them all day, you need to provide a ton of different toys. 96% of the time she's a wonderful gem, but that 4% would make me hesitate to recommend a bird like her to most people, even bird lovers.
One major positive: caiques are known to be able to bond with multiple people in a household and are less prone to finding a single person to like at the exclusion of everyone else. Ours is equally excited to see either my wife or myself, which is great.
Well, I have never had any problems. _BUT, She is outside the cage with me around 6 - 8 hours PER DAY. I do work from home._
Very useful
Green cheek conures lay on their back to!😁
Thanks for an excellent review and tips. I was hoping you'll give a caique at least one 5 out of all the areas you've covered but 3's are not bad either. Good job.
If I had a category for Fun, definitely a 5 for me ha ha. But I've seen enough caiques for adoption to know they're not fun for most people ha ha.
@@Fivesaflock yeah thats a problem. I had no plans for a third but there was an adorable WB in a petco i kept my eye on that was gone one day. it showed up back in the "fish tank" about a week later because the familly that bought it couldn't handle her. I spoke with the manager and told it it was petco's policy to not have these types of birds for sale and talked him into selling her to me at cost. I consider it a rescue because she is super timid compared to the two i weaned myself. Still a sweet bird though.
Thanks from Long Island
I give this video a score of 3/5.
I love caiques and i think i want one after college
Could you please do a video on Eclectus parrots?
Definitely plan on it once I get my hands on it!
We love our three! As males get much older, they seem to be more aggressive than females. I’m so glad kiwi (on my head) is a female!
Very helpful rating system. I am thinking about getting my second bird (I had a cockatiel and parakeets as a child). Now that I am an adult, I am considering getting a Bourke's Parakeet. Would love some insight on those pinkies :D
The rating system is stolen from Clint's Reptiles
My caique likes to sleep in my shirt. She's been in my shirt for 3 hours now. Clingy? Yup, yup, yup. Been mine is actually pretty calm, strangely enough. She likes just hanging out on my shoulder, but she has her weird moments
Yep I love that kiwi can be a cuddler when it’s just us two!
im interested to know what you think about monk parrots ?
I had a male Quaker until he passed away recently. I found a breeder that is raising BH caiques and I was going to get one but after reading the reviews and comments I don't think I am qualified to get a caique and will get another Quaker instead. I am disappointed, because I really would've loved a caique but I think I stick with a Quaker.
What's your best recommendation for a quiet apartment bird/parrot?
Green Cheek Conure or Cockatiel are great for apartments and are small enough to not take up much space.
@@fredriksvard2603 GCC are the BEST birds to own as far a quietness. The loud annoying one is the sunconure. Suns are beautiful but extremely loud 😖 i had one and sold it after just a few months. I have a green cheek and pineapple conure and both very good birds. I have a Caique, African grey, yellow headed amazon.
Two finches lol

Do you know where/how I can get a caique for cheaper? They’re so expensive
Please do Sun Conures!! 💗
I would like you to review Golden Conure.
Definitely will when I get my hands on one!
OMG, I have one lololol they are something serious lmaooo
My caique was over 2400 with a good cage, diet and toys.
Honestly, they might be perfect for me, I live alone, I'm an artist working from home, I have 9 years 9f experience owning birds, and since i work from home I can have 'loud hours' to when people are at work, which is what I've heard many cockatoo owners do if they live in apartments
I have an African Grey (Sully) who is 23 years old. He picked my husband as his person and tolerates me. I am thinking of getting a Caique. The first African Grey we had was never in his cage except to 😴. He was always on me. Is this the type of attention a Caique would need?
Dont want one but They're so cute 😍❤️
Very informative video. Can you make a video on Senegal parrots?
Definitely plan to when ones available for me
Hi, great video, may I ask you a couple of questions? I had a male budgie for 14 years until he passed away, now I'm considering to get a parrot again. I'm trying to figure out if Caique is a good choice for me. I was perfectly fine with what a budgie was, all his energy, behaviour and stuff, but now I want a slightly larger bird. How is Caique compared to budgie? Does it require a lot more maintanence and care in comparison?
Another thing I'm interested in is how Caiques behave when guests come to your place? For example, my budgie absolutely didn't care what people were around, he could land on anybody, was super playful with everyone and never bit anyone except for his owners :) But my relatives' Cuban amazon parrot basically tolerated only one person - my aunt and was hostile to everyone else, her husband my uncle, their children and especially any guest that happened to visit them so he needed to be locked in his cage. How do Caiques treat guests and different family members?
A Caique is definitely a big step up from a Budgie but if you're willing to put in the hours and work extra, a Caique is extremely rewarding.
How they behave with guests really depends down to their individual personality. I've met Caiques that absolutely hate strangers, but mine tolerates everybody except my brother, who she absolutely hates and will try to chase and attack. What I believe it boils down to is if you give enough attention to your Caique when you have guests over or not. These birds get so jealous super easily, and if they misplace jealousy with your guests, they can turn nasty.
Fivesaflock thank you for the answer!
I sit and cry as I watch your video. As I miss my late Caique (orange head also known as white bellied)
I was waiting for breeding season in my country but due to his passing I didn't get a chance to buy another male
Now with breeding season here would you suggest I get 2 males at the same time. I have a HUGE cage.
Great video. I like how you balance the pros and cons which I think is sorely needed as many will override reality with, “Eh, I’ll learn along the way.” to then have to give the bird up.
When you’re handling it is it biting and you just know how to minimize the intensity or is it just playfully nipping.?
Maybe I missed it but how long do these cuties live (which can be another factor when deciding to own).
They definitely use their beaks to play. It's not biting at all, but just being very physical. They last around 30 years.
@@Fivesaflock Thanks!
Just gonna add they can become very aggressive over a lot of stuff and they're bite is a solid 7/10 on the pain scale, but overall i think they're a great bird not beginner but a great bird if u have the time to train it and all of that 😁very time consuming I also know that u put this up a year ago but just wanted to share my thoughts and opinions on this bird
@@mrghost5116 Never a time limit on sharing info! Appreciate your experience. Thanks. 🙂

Our white bellied caique has been the greatest addition to our family. The only disclaimer I would amend regarding their jealousy though. Doesn't apply to only humans and birds. Mango will actively attack our American Bully if given half an opportunity. And Yes. It is funny as hell to watch a 50 Pound Bull Breed dog run from a little bird. Still, She will make the dog bleed given a chance.
