- The Goffin's Cockatoo is an incredible cockatoo that is jam packed with so much parrot. They're incredibly popular because of their cuddliness and fun personality but they can end up being quite a handful. But as fun as they are, is this the right pet parrot for you?

Goffin's Owners! What has been your experience owning these parrots?
Read my long comment below.
My first goffin didn't like men or My mom and daughter he tried to attack them he would fly to me I loved haven him he was so sweet always sit on my recliner or couch and cuddle with me I also have a blue and gold macaw and a cocktail too
Please don’t support breeders and pet stores. So many cockatoos and parrots are dumped after a few years when they get hormonal, and they spend the next 50 years in misery, ripping out their own feathers.
My family has had our goffin for 27 years. Since he was an egg lol. He is extremely messy sometimes makes messes on purpose. He’s also very affectionate and loves/ needs attention. He’s extremely smart and loves to play puzzle games. He’s loud, and a bit destructive if his mind is not challenged. Oh yes attention again lol he loves to dance and get/give kisses.
If you would do well as a preschool teacher, then maybe a Goffin's is right for you.
I have met a few goffin's in my life. They are amazing birds but they are not for a lot of people. They really are 5 birds in one. Imagine the most troublesome toddler you have met. Now imagine having to live with them for 30 years.
A family member had one when I was growing up in the 80's. They had to use padlock to keep his cage closed. He managed to unscrew EVERY THING! He could pry trim off the wall or shred the wood. He ripped holes in the curtains. He would hang on the door frame and turn the dead bolt, locking people out. His screams and shrieks could rattle your ears and man could he bite. He could bite to the bone. He could destroy things in the time it took to unload the dishwasher.
On the other side was a bird that was very affectionate and silly and fun to be around. He liked to call for the cat and tease the dogs. He would grab the cat's tail with his foot when it walked by. You could see the delight in his eyes and the cat jumped and ran away. I love goffin's but I would never intentionally go out and get one.
You literally have the best bird review videos on RUclips. You pack in a lot of information, but don't drone on & on & on... You always hit the 5 main points, so I appreciate the consistency. And you just keep it fun & interesting. Thank you! I've been a subscriber for quite a while now & thoroughly enjoy your videos!
Wow, thanks! Really appreciate the support!
You’ere saying the exact same thing I wanted to say, thanks a lot❗️❣️❗️🦜💚🤗
this sleeping pose with the beak under the wing is just beyond adorable
My Goffin's is 37 years old. I got him as a rescue at 7 years old from a family with a small boy that harassed him. He is lovely but never wanted so be in a room where all the action is. I had previously had a Conure that was rarely in a cage and was on a stand in the kitchen. My Goffin's cage is in the laundry room and comes out and spends time with us in the morning for about 2 hours after that he flies back in his cage. He's been a lovely pet, He plucks his chest in the spring but other than that he's been a pretty happy bird although not as curious as most. Takes him a long time to explore new things and new toys. He seems to really thrive best when he gets to stick to his routine. Love to be petted and get treat but doesn't like new treats. He favourite is dry spaghetti noodles. We are sad knowing he is getting to be an old bird even though he is still doing well.
Another plus for Goffin's is they seem usually like to dance and have great taste in music.
I own a Goffin Cockatoo and he is just so friendly :).
I had a Goff in cockatoo for five years but unfortunately she got stolen:(
She was practically my daughter, I loved her so much she was amazing!
Like you said it’s a five year old with wings. She was snuggly as hell and she loved almost everyone, super gentle and caring bird.
If you spend most of your time at home and willing to put ALLOT of effort into it,that’s the best pet bird ever.
Negative points were: very loud and noisy, messy, needy and sometimes a bit aggressive to some people in hormone season. Also and very important , the Goff in cockatoo is illegal to keep in most places on earth so I don’t recommend to people who might need to move/ switch country ecc..
I would get her all over again if I could.. despite all the negative points.
Just keep in mind:)
I can not imagine someone stealing a bird like that. I had a family member offer me a juvenile sulphur crested ,but I was holding out for a goffins because I already had 3 large birds and I knew that I could not manage such an intelligent demanding bird with my other ones and still get a goffins
What do you mean stolen?! How does that happen?
You've earned yourself a subscriber. I've been surfing the internet for reviews on goffins cockatoo and you've been one of the few straight forward people I can rely on for good info. I've been blessed with an opportunity to take in a 23 year old Goffin's cockatoo for as long as it lives. I'm confident that I have what it takes to care for her!
Goffins has always been one of my favorites.
I have a 5 month old goffins. His name is Joey. Hes the light of my life!
And amazing content! I appreciate the informative videos since I am thinking of getting a pair for myself again
My Corella, or bare eyed Cockatoo, is very quiet, I can do anything w her, super sweet, but attacks people who are nervous, or try to touch her, usually, chews wood in d house, a real character, Ive had her a year, still hard to get her to eat healthy, she throws the veggies at me in a a very dramatic way..she's great!
Thanks for making the meyers parrot video a long time ago this had made me like him even more
I have a Goffin's cockatoo. She's 35 years old,, healthy, and sitting on my shoulder as I type this comment. Her name is Guinevere.
That sleepy goffin's is so cute! I wouldn't get one because I don't think it would fit in well with my other birds. I'm an amazon and macaw gal myself as my orange wing is my life 😍though they are the sweetest birds
I only adopt! That way, you're both going to be rewarded. Lots a love, kindness, lots of attention, food, and play, for the bird, and for you, lots of ❤️ LOVE, attention, love... Did I say LOVE enough!
I used to not like Cockatoos for whatever reason. But the more I learn about then and watch videos featuring them, I've come to really like all sorts of Cockatoos. Really funny birds, but I wouldnt want to get one for the sole reason I doubt I'd ever be able to fully provide for the permanent 5 year old.
Love this guys videos, and respect to the pet store for loaning him their beautiful birds for the videos
Thanks for the support!
I went today to Omar’s and it’s so dope in there, highly recommend.
AKA Salmon now is sooo quiet he doesn't want to play with toys or anything
This was a great video! So informative Ty!
I love Goffins! That bird is so cute!
My ozzie is so clear, he talks none stop , calling the cat in says everything lol . He dose play up when I on the phone to point I have to say " sorry that's my bird not my child lol "
You're exactly right on all points. I had a Goffins cockatoo and she wanted to be around me constantly, if I left the room, she would squawk for me. She was a sweetheart, but unfortunately I lost my job and my house, so I had
to get rid of her and my Triton cockatoo.they both have good homes,so I'm happy for them. Your channel has very good content and is very informative. Good job. 👍
I had a goffin cockatoo that had to be put down at a young age at 17 due to an infected broken wing back in 2010 when I was 14. We grew up together and she’d still be here today if she never broke her wing. 😞
Really hope this series continues.
I’ve been learning so much! Thanks!
Nice seeing Squirt in the background of one of your photos lol. Love going to that place.
Definitely want one of these little guys.
Great job on your research! I always wondered how accurate you were since I didn’t own the birds you reviewed. I OWN THIS ONE.
YOU DEFINITELY ARE ACCURATE AND THANK U FOR TAKING THE TIME TO GIVE TEH CORRECT INFORMATION!
There really isn’t much to add that u didn’t say.
I do want to touch on the attention part of the goffin. They definitely want and need your attention from the time they wake up. U can clean do your chores but he has to be able to see u if he doesn’t he will scream in fear. He hates being alone if he knows your home. When I have to run out I put on (Parrot town TV) where he can see and leave his dog brother with him. I leave him no longer than 5 hrs. Alone rare. I do not vacation unless I have someone he knows that will watch him.
Thanks! I do my absolute best with research and try to consult with people before my videos!
He left out the whole part that their practically extinct thanks to the wild bird trade and that promoting them as pets is why they're going extinct.
@@VoodooGuitar your right that’s why Mine is a rescue
Have Goffin male 2-3 years old it’s extremely love sensitive birds intelligent energetic easy to handle not expensive to hold and everyone like them.💖💕💞❤️😙😙😙😙😋😋😋😛😛😛🥰🥰
Goffins sound like they have they have a temperament that's right for me.
Really accurate video. Said it perfect with "what you would normally do with a bird just more of it" lol need to really love birds and be really into the care that goes with it.
Only thing I would add would be that when they get excited they can bite down hard but not to bite you just to hang on and play so that's something you have to know in order to avoid or at least not be surprised by lol
So far my goffins is pretty quiet. She feeds off the energy around her so if it's quiet she's quiet and if it's loud she's loud lol she will talk when we talk and even get sleepy when we get sleepy.
We have a cage that is the minimum size for a goffins and we use it for sleep only. She is out of her cage all day and at max will go in for an hour or two if we leave the house. Two big stands and several smaller stands.
Alot of $$ and alot of time/energy. The love you get is worth every bit. This bird is like having a child 100%
I Can feel the Golden conure com in the next video. And keep up the good work
Won't be next video but I may have one available to review within the next 2 weeks!
Hey bro pls the Senegal in a video. Because I may well get one day. I have cockatiel he name is Rocky so I hope I can get a Senegal to. Have a good day. And you are the best parrot yt.😊
I went to Omars, I like it. I'm definitely on the quest to figure out which bird will be my first.
I have a female Goffins and my husband and I are obsessed with her.
I’m just very surprised that this cockatoo is not screaming through the video. I hope people know this is not what they’re getting if they watch this video 😂
Very informative!!
Can you do a video about how to take care of baby birds
That's an interesting one. There's definitely people who wanna learn to breed parrots but it's also pretty difficult. Normally I recommend buying a parrot that's fully weened.
Thanks for making this video and I have a question do conures get along with them:)
ty. I love my G2! aren't they great. smaller poops. 1000 pct personality.
That was a amazing video and l am a fan of cockatoos
Love your energy
🙄 How voice sounds like a bird. And that thing he does with his hand.... wtf
I use to have one I lost him afew years ago im getting another one she really took to me can't wait to get her
So fluffy
You forgot the PRIME trait of Goffins: homicidal jealousy.
Goffins might be the most difficult of all the pet parrots.
They are insanely jealous, and that jealousy will almost certainly lead to violent aggression towards other pets, children, family members, and even the favored person once they reach sexual maturity, both males and females. They ARE nippy and unpredictable. Yes, they are also very social and can be very sweet, but they turn to rage quickly and without warning. That aggression may not show itself to guests and strangers, as they are often busy hamming it up with new people, but in their own home, they are likely to have a preferred target to pick on (or possibly everyone except their favorite, who will still get bit if they dare to get close to another human or pet at the same time as the Goffins.)
Want a pet that will dive bomb your partner or kids, ruin your relationships, attack your other pets, destroy your house, and get you evicted for noise complaints? Get a Goffins.
They are incredibly destructive. They are LOUD. They are rehomed over and over for attacking people and screaming. And yes, they are one of the most likely to feather mutilate of all the parrots.
They are charming, quirky clowns, but they are also narcissistic sociopaths. I’m not gaining to lie, they are my favorite birds, but they honestly make incredibly difficult pets, even for experienced bird keepers who know how to train and handle challenging birds.
These birds need to be allowed to fly! There is no way for them to burn enough energy or have healthy independence if they are clipped. Clipping a Goffins is the surest way to turn it into a plucker. They are too smart and active to not be allowed to be birds. There is no cage large enough for a Goffins to get as much exercise and enrichment as it needs. It needs to fly. Ideally it needs a large outdoor aviary to fly in, or to be trained to free fly outdoors.
I honestly wish these birds were not bred for the pet trade. They are doomed to a life of feather mutilation and being rehomed over and over for their homicidally violent tendencies and screaming.
Unfortunately, they are also adorable and hilarious and friendly and playful, which lures unsuspecting buyers into purchasing them. But the reality of living with them is just too much for most people. They are extremely high-needs, difficult birds. Goffins are not good pets.
Hi. What would you recommend in terms of a Cockatoo (if you had to)? I agree they probably shouldn't be pets.
@@chadb7694 I would not recommend any cockatoo. They pretty much all meet this description. If you must have a cockatoo, meet them at rescues and find a non-baby that needs a home rather than supporting the breeding trade of cockatoos. Many other species of parrots make better pets than cockatoos.
@@dawnbustanoby6595 you're prob right although it's hard to admit because they are adorable. What do you recommend in terms of other birds? I have a GC conure, lovebird and a cockatiel. I'm interested in macaws as well (prob a rescue).
@@chadb7694 Goffins truly are adorable, and if you already have (and are actively training) birds, you have a leg up on other folks, though honestly I’d be afraid of a cockatoo’s jealous rages with those smaller birds. My Goffins attacks my Amazon that’s twice her size. But if you are looking at rescues and don’t have your heart set on one species, why not visit many and meet them all until you find a bird you click with?
@@chadb7694I have the same three plus a Senegal parrot which is mostly quiet :) Friend of mine might be handing over a rescued Goffin's cockatoo, which is why I'm checking this video out. 😅
Yes so amazing, I am from Indonesia
My goffins is a rescue he’s all plucked but his neck and head area his cheeks are plucked too but man he is awesome when I’m loving my ringnecks he come out of his cage and rests his head on any part of my body he can reach 😂😂 he does scream but only when he gets scared over all he’s been such an awesome addition to my flock he was super scared of everything but now he’s coming out of his shell
Haha perfect pronunciation of Galah! 😄
I absolutely love goffin cockatoos, i hope in the near future I save up enough of buy me one PS im a south african fan😁😜
I've had my goffin for 18 years she's a female and her name is baby. I'm her 3rd owner, she came to me at 5 years old. I have to admit she was difficult in the beginning - biting and screaming but she has become the best and most amazing pet! I absolutely adore her! There is only my husband and me and she is great with both of us. Mostly everyone else is afraid of her and she can be loud Which most people don't like but my husband and I love her.
My best friend from New York has one of these named Buddy. I love him so much and hope to have one some day.
So my friend needs someone to take this bird so I'm gonna go pick it up. But I jsut found out today he is a Bare Eye'd Cockatoo. Any chance you could rate them?
Where I'm from, it's literally illegal to have them alone. You gotta have at least a pair, they are 'needy' because they are social creatures who need companionship.
Well since we're on cockatoos how does the Solomon/ducorps Cockatoo sound there is so little information available on them online
Would u ever Review a Amazona ochrocephala? I grew up with two of them adorable birds and just want to know ur opinion about them.
I'm 14 and I have
1 Umbrella Cockatoo (boy-Angle)
1 Goffin's Cockatoo (girl- Suger)
1 Golden-collared macaw (boy- Mozart)
1 African Grey (boy- Griffin)
My Grandpa does help me with them...
I didn't pay for all these birds by myself (That would be Crazy if I did pay for my birds alone.)
I LOVE birds 🐦🐦🐦🐦
I Love my birds and all birds, but I had to become homeschooled so I could be with and take care of them...Birds need A LOT of attention.
So now they just sit on me and watch me do my schoolwork
I own one of these. they are super sweet but unfortunately the previous owner never handed it so it never wants to come off it's perch. but it's never bit me and it always comes over and lays it's head on my shoulder and dance's and hops up and down when I'm around.
My goffin cockatoo is 7 years old and I frgot his brithday
Can you do a review for Quaker parrot, please?
well my goffin cockatoo is a boy I had him tested . He doesn't want to be handled just scratched on the head up to now and he doesn't like vegetables or fruits at all dont know what to do I feel like its losing lots of weight
You just gotta keep showing attention over time, they do need a lot of attention. My brother had rescued a goffin from a terrible home , the kids there would antagonize him so much that he was scared of their whole family. The day my brother went to meet him he even bit the owner and made him bleed but as soon as he had met my brother he opened up to him , now year n half has gone by and he’s started opening up to me letting me hold him and pet him and hang with him in general
Keep at it. I had one like that and now I can't keep him off of me!
If he is losing lots of weight you should take him to an avian vet. There might be something medically wrong.
Lol I have one and I agree that they are needy
I love your channel and review so much. I just got a Golden Conure from Omar's exotic bird in socal also 🐦🐦🐦🐦🐦🦜🦜🦜🦜🦜
Hey that's awesome! Was planning to review that bird but ended up being bought so we decided to wait for the next one. We try to avoid reviewing birds that have been paid for
@@Fivesaflock WOW...no way!!! You were about to review the Golden Conure boy that I bought? We beat 4 people on waiting list. It was God's plan. I was in so much pain 3 days crying non-stop losing my rescued finch 😭😭❤️❤️❤️
We saw him and knew within 1 second that he's the one. I never knew anything about bird, Golden Conure, or cockatoo.....0 knowledge about birds until Kim showed me him
That's awesome! Study up on Golden Conures! They're AMAZING birds, but a bit of a velcro bird. They're clowns but a bit demanding and challenging to care for. But they'll make loyal pets for a long time!
Do you know any places in sc that is like Omar’s exotic birds?
Thinking about getting a bird companion. I after observing different varieties, I feel like Caique would be a good fit for my family. I'm pretty good with animals, and really hands on. It wouldn't be for about 6 months or so, so i might make a few visits out to Omar's to see whats up. Do you know any bird rescues in SoCal that I could visit to spend time with some birds?
try a rescue first and also get on the FB rehoming pages and G2 groups. Someone always has a need to rehome. But have a pet psychic talk to them first about the rehome (rehoming can kill a bird if not done right). for training, try bird tricks, youtube
Cockatoo 👍
I just saw one on RUclips thats 45 years old and she bites like crazy
Please talk about Alexandrine Parrots. Love your videos.
will do when I get my hands on one
@@Fivesaflock, thank you!!!
Ha here in Australia we call them Corella's, they flock in their THOUSANDS here & can be a pest.
I just bought this type. He is mad
Could you please also review the Solomon Island/DuCorps Cockatoo, which is a small cockatoo like Goffin’s and Bare-Eyed Cockatoos. My impression is that it is a bit more mellow. Am I right? 🤗
Def will if I can get my hands on one! But I would say "mellow" and "cockatoo" don't go in the same sentence 😂 But sure, generally smaller birds will have a touch less energy, but probably won't be very noticeable.
@@Fivesaflock - More mellow than a Goffin’s and a Bare-Eyed Cockatoo, was what I meant, not that it in general is mellow… ☺️ All cockatoos seems to have ADHD…
I have that perch!
I wish so bad I was not allergic to dust
try 5k of d3 per day. 80% of allergies are due to low d3. now go enjoy your pets
I’ll try that
I'm planning to buy a pet bird for my family, including two kids, husband and my mom. I need a high energy, funny, playful and intelligent bird. Noice is not a problem. I want to keep it cage free. And want him to don't fly away from me, if I bring him outside. I researched and have two option one is goffins cocatto other is caique. Could you please compare both birds. I love both... talking also my preference ...caiques can't talk, but if it is a right bird for my family, I am ready to buy caique. Please help me . It is humble request from me.
I love mine they need a lot of attemtion and won’t tolerate being ignored they need a good diet Harrison’s is recommended so affectionate cuddly loving mine likes my cat
Will you please do a Quaker parrot and a budgie???? :)
Agree!
Do African Gray parrots!!
How would you rank this bird against a bronze winged pionus? They are the two birds I'm having a hard time choosing between
I was going to get Bronze Winged Pionus but got Golden Conure after see him for 1 second
Really hard to compare the two. They're kinda polar opposites ha ha
hi I like your explanation on this type of bird . I was recently gifted with this kind of bird and her name is Chloe which I got told that she only likes seeds which I dont like because I know that causes fatty liver in them and she won't eat nothing else ... how do I get her to change her diet to a healthier one ?
Slowly change her diet by every week, changing the ratio from seed to pellet about 10%
@@Fivesaflock and what does that 10% look like in measurements using cups
???? I would appreciate measuremeant in tablespoons or teaspoons cups and so on please
@@veronicaortiz1343 10% of a cup would be 0.1 cup. Another way to look at it 9:1. Pick what ever unit you want and use 9 of those for seed and 1 for pellets. Next 8:2 and so on
Make a video on African Grey parrot..
oh im early
I have a goffin cockatoo
Do the Moluccan Cockatoo or the Brown Headed Pionus
Come on bro keep these reviews coming please. Eclectus, and African grey need to be added 😊
actually in indonesia still have lesser cockatoo is smal medium cockatoo
In Australia
Birds = cheap
Cage = $$$$$$
In America
Birds: relatively expensive
Cages: not that bad
Please do
Hyacinth Macaws
Blue and Gold Macaws
Severe Macaw(there are literally NO videos on Severe macaws on RUclips and they’re so beautiful and I really want one but there’s near to no information on them)
And Quaker parrots and African Greys too
they also come from Australia and are native too. They are dusty tho. So get out the air purivier.
You mentioned puzzle toys . I haven’t seen any type of puzzles as the kind you speak of. I’ve seen the lab studies and would so so love to have anything even remotely similar to the nuts and bolts the Goffin’s figures how to operate to get to the treat. ANY type puzzles that might tickle and satisfy it’s incredibly high intelligence. Plz plz plz let know what or where I could find any.
Mind you, their attention span can be iffy, unless there’s a treat reward, or anything that rewards what the particular bird likes. Thank you!
P.S.
I don’t know about young kids. Cockatoo’s bite(regardless of the Goffin’s being smallest) is NASTY!!! their beak has 3 prongs in it and they DO bite to punish and cause severe pain. Usually breaking the skin.
I hope you are a good sport about this but I thought of Wayne from Wayne's World jk. I wonder if it is an accent from where you live. I am thinking of adopting a Goffin, he is overflowing with cuteness
You know, people have said I pronounce things weird sometimes. I'm half romanian and Chinese so growing up with immigrant parents, their accents probably rubbed off on me
Can u do a hahn's macaw?
Or african grey
If you have two of them will they be a little less obsessed with you?
Can you please make one of a severe or chestnut macaw😁
Or a military macaw
definitely plan to when I get my hands on one!
Thanks
