Galah Cockatoo Owners! What has been your experience owning these clowns?
I actually go to omars and i met that exact galah she is so sweet
That bird is stressed. I am from Aust. and have galah's. When there beaks are open and they are breathing like that they are stressed.
Hardly surprising with an obnoxious American shouting in his ears 😅
But I guess that gives parrots a taste of their own medicine
Not a big deal but how we pronounce them in Australia is like galaaaah. With a big emphasis on the final a. Not a big deal just putting it out there :)
False, impossible, Australia does not exist
But we ain't Aussies
isa joke.
Yeah we do I’m Australian too
@@Blue-bx9pb do u actually believe that bro thats sad u r not educated
@@spedhead9267 No, I was making a joke. Australia is actually pretty cool, from what I’ve had the opportunity to see
i live near a large animal sanctuary in Victoria, Australia. A lot of the birds in there are varieties of cockatoos including galahs. A lot of the birds outlived their owners who did not have plans in place for the bird once they died. It is important to remember when buying these birds that you have a next of kin included in your will in order for your bird to to not end up in a position of distressing your bird too much.
I'm really concerned about the panting of this bird, yes they do pant, but not for an extended time. I know this video was made over a year ago, hope this lil one is ok
Fellow Galah owner here. I would say this is spot on. My nugget is very demanding and it took her awhile to warm up. She wants constant attention and stimulation. These birds will keep you on your tippy toes. Though if you are willing to put in the time, great companion. Any pet should be part of your family. The Galah assumes she is 😅
My son's nanday thinks she's a toddler and has to get under the blankets and cuddle me for about 30 minutes or she gets pissed about going to bed. Lol
It's pronounced Ga-LAH with emphasis on the second syllable. I'm lucky to live in an area of South Australia where these fellas are everywhere and are crazy birds in a good way. They are often seen hanging upside down during a rainshower, which allows for the cleaning of their feathers. I once knew a lady who was given a Galah chick in 1925 when she was 5 years old. She lived to be 85, and the bird outlived her for another 4 years...
Australian here, love your videos. First time I’ve heard it pronounced guh-luh. Maybe it’s pronounced differently elsewhere 😂. But yeah usually pronounced ga-la, really emphasising the a’s.
Also, there’s a bunch of these guys who just live around my area, they’re super cute when they fly down to drink from my dams. Absolutely adorable birds.
You're right about pronunciation lol. This is just the way I've heard it pronounced around here but maybe I should've looked it up first
@@Fivesaflock No no, trust me the pronunciation doesn’t matter at all haha. Absolutely loved the video, you covered everything. Very nicely done.
Mate, his galah will talk American .
I have one and we just love her ❤️ She only nips when she is scared 😱. She doesn't break the skin. She just loves everyone in the family even people she has never seen she will fly right over lol.lol
Good, balanced review of the pluses and minuses
African greys have got to be next
Not next, but soon is what it's looking like!
I have a hand-raised "Kuhli Galah" which is about 2-3 inches smaller than an "Eastern Galah" I bought 4 years ago for $450 there is a shit load of them in Australia.....2-4 hours a day out of his cage is all he wants before he wants to go back in they love their alone time as well.
Galahs are definitely the cutest birds
Hi! Is it possible that you can review pigeons? They are really cute and cuddly and probably good for beginners.
That would be really awesome! But pigeons aren't common here, at least as far as I know. I'll have to look into it.
@@Fivesaflock nonsense, you can just grab one off the streets
Take a look at the Twenty Eight parrot native to Western Australia, awesome bird. Not really a talker, but will give kisses and hang with you just about all day long, so long as you hand raise them from a young age. They are nice looking parrots and great companions. My rescue boy used to sit on my shoulder while I rode along on the tractor and planted new trees, he loved it, until at three years old he flew off with a female who kept visiting him. All my medium sized parrots used to go in the car with me and perch on the head piece of my drivers' seat, they used to go to the pet cafe when it was open and sit on my shoulder often when I went out. They now inhabit a huge flight aviary in my backyard. They take turns visiting me inside and having days with Mum. 😄
Galahs are cockatiels are to the MAX! Oh man I want one so bad! They also related to cockatiels!
I love your review series - both fascinating and educational. Can you please review Senegal parrots at some point?
Definitely plan to when I get my hands on one!
Please please do Peach Faced Lovebird!
Thanks for covering all the parrots 🦜 super relaxing videos. Keep up the good work my man 😬😬
Galahs here in Australia hang out in flocks of hundreds to thousands. I own 4, some rescue of which I've owned for nearly ten years, one of which was raised from 6 weeks old . They are highly affectionate and comical creatures, however a word of advice on pronunciation, I hear you saying it in the way you would pronounce a gala (festival), however it's pronounced evenly Gaalaah as in ga ga ga, la la la, G a l a h. Beautiful young Galah there. Cheers.
Watch Vinny from Marlene Mc'cohen on RUclips. A great example of an intelligent aggressive Galah.
Please do a video on Quakers! I have two, they’re great!
I want to! But gonna have to go out of state to do it
Another aussie here, i had a galah since i was a Child, it would nibble on my ear for hours while I read comics on the bed. Later got one so smart, it would watch how we locked the cage, then we would find it sitting on the cage when we got home. Plenty of wild ones everywhere here in Brisbane.
He looks like he is struggling with hot weather
Our galah is now 50 years and going strong. He loves eating anything you are eating - his favourite snack is a chicken bone from a roast. Everything goes into the water dish to soften before he eats it - including the metal springs on wooden clothes pegs. His bites go to the bone when he's unhappy.
Your bird there looks hot or stressed with all that panting.
Please can you review the major Mitchell cockatoo?
What's with all the panting? Is your house really hot? Is the Galah stressed out? Bit of both? These birds aren't toys, please treat them with respect.
What an amazing channel!! Congrats !
Thank you! Cheers!

Great video. Really informative and full of great unsight into these birds 😄 however, your pronunciation of the name galah is maddening haha
OOPS... this baby is really stressing so be good
Great video, man.
My Galah Sammi and I enjoyed it. She disagreed with some details. Ironically, they were the points that I agreed with most strongly . 🐔🤓
You should do a review of the budgie
We have been doing our research. Once we have finished buying our house we are going to be hopefully getting one of these as we want a long lived parrot, that is on the larger side but that is also super friendly and a bit of an asshole.
Our galah is now around 50 years old and still going strong.
I'd love for you to do a review on the Little Corella!
$3000+ USD for a galah, when i can go and catch them for free in my backyard in Australia, in my town we have large flocks of galahs, little corella's, sulphur crested cockatoos since theres lots of cereal crops and grain depots, we also get rosella's, king, princess and superb parrots and cockatiels in smaller numbers
Catching a wild one is wrong. It should be illegal everywhere. Adopting is always better.
Can you review male Eclectus next
Definitely plan on it, but might be a while until one is available
@@Fivesaflock 👍
Jamieleigh from Birdtricks says exacteley the opposite in her video: Why Cockatoos Make TERRIBLE Pets (Watch Mine Attack ME!). So, I don't know what is true now...
Heaps of these guys im my area. As well as the corella and the cockatoo. Around my work I get dive bombed by them when you get in there space lol. They are loud but you are right when you say they are clowns. And yes talking they really talk. It is funny to start but gets so annoying after a while
Mine is the most cuddled parrot one can have. He sleeps in my hand. Well not in the begining but day after day. But I guess I was Lucky.
Which is the best parrot for me I like quite and funny parrot but not very expensive, and you can buy it from any pet market? Which one is the best?
Look into cockatiels or green cheek conures!
Green cheek. I didn't want one cause they're so common but I'm glad my bird guy convinced me.
Just love your reviews. Thank you!
You should do the purple crown Lorrikeet! have one looks a rainbow hummingbird about the size of your thumb 🤩
Well, this was certainly informative. It's a shame that a Galah Cockatoo will generally outlive their original owners with their long lifespan, but they're just so beautiful and they seem like such fun creatures!
I've actually been thinking about getting a bird myself, leaning towards a Sun Conure, but please, tell me, what bird species would you recommend for a beginner?
Would be nice to have a review for the brown headed parrot
How many birds are you planning on getting
Also can you do a review on love birds
I'm going to stick with my 5 parrots for now
but def plan on lovebirds, just waiting on one to be available
Cool I love black mask lovebirds
I have alot of galahs in my neighbourhood of intercity Sydney Australia
Love how you say Galah we aussie say it different
"Australian Galah, holding grudges" Sounds like a bio for my ex wife
when he was talking about augments with them, he defiantly been watching Marlene Mc'chohen. vinny... 😂
in australia galahs are only $450-$2000
Excellent review, just what I needed. From what I understand, unfortunately, the galah is not the bird for me. I also own a cat, and my cat used to live on the street before we rescued him, which probably meant he fed on mice and birds to survive.
Bravo very well explained🙌😀thank you very much for this🙏
Does anyone know what happened to Coro???
Bird seems exhausted. Seems too thirsty.. give her water instead of making videos
I was wondering which Omar's Exotic Birds you borrow the birds from? I would love to visit there soon since I also live in southern California.
Either Lake Forest or Brea is where I go as it's closer to me to do these reviews
Can you make one on Quaker parrots ??
"Gulla" 😂
This video is very interesting and informative! Thank you so much. Would you provide a link to the video you mentioned about the mix of a Galah and cockatiel. Thanks again.
ive just sub now and thank you for filling my information about Galah cocktoos i am buying one on the 16th of this month it will be my second cocktoo as i own a solomon cocktoo and a african grey
Pls can you review the jardine parrot
I’m interested in getting one
definitely planning to!
bro , u should live here in Australia, I just bought a pair for $500 AUD. Thanks for you video.
Can you review sun conures ?
Can you please review Malabar Parakeets, lanyards parakeet and long tailed parakeet. Thanks
You are a high energy guy. The info is great Coro! Only wonder why you seem to find it necessary to shout. (respectfully fyi, it doesn't really help to turn the volume down, as still sounds like you think we can't hear you unless you shout
5:02 thats actually true
here in australia i get 1 for 400 fully tamed
Heaps of them 8n australia
Galaaaaaaaagh
My galah always poops on me if I keep it on my shoulder it is a nightmare! 🤣
Why is he breathing like that? :)
It was a bit stressed at the beginning but by the end of the video was chilling on my shoulder
@@Fivesaflock Thanks for replying❤✨
So your saying...i have to take care a 70 year old teenager that have wings?
Y e s.
Absolutely.
How different do you find galahs personalities when compared to the sulfur crested cockatoos
Galahs are a bit more skittish and cockatiel like
Hi Coro,
I just made a deposit on an umbrella cockatoo. I researched this for years, as this is my dream pet. I do live in an apartment, but the building is family owned so I’m not worried about a landlord. However, can you give me your opinion on if the bird will disrupt my pack ? ( 2 dogs, 3 cats, a tortoise and turtle ) Thus is my dream and I’m turning 35 in two weeks. I felt it was now or never, I don’t wanna be in my 40s raising a bird. She will be a few months old when I pick her up in October. Please give me all your advice and opinion ! Thank you xx
You pronounce the word as Ga-lah, they are gorgeous birds.
Is he good
That's right .. is Galaah not Gals .. ther're very bright (can con & outhink a dog .. flying primates really ) .. this one here seems t😮o be beak breathing .. not agood sign of health.
If they weren’t dusty, I’d have a house full
Also I really enjoy your content.
What’s behind the bird shortage going on right now?
Several things but mainly tons of breeders are retiring right now and selling their breeder parrots to people who are illegally exporting the pairs out of country.
That bird is almost certainly sick. It shouldn’t be breathing through its mouth.
That poor bird you did not stop moving your hand arround which would make it so nervous. Also pronunciation is gulaaaa
can you make a video on all your birds??
I've made reviews on all my birds. Do you mean like a video introducing them as my flock and talking about them personally?
@@Fivesaflock yes, like one video with all your birds, and talk a lil bit about all of them! and please give me a lil shout out! thank you!!!!!
@@its.laura.brown. Liked the Idea, they could talk about who they got first, why they got it, etc
@@berfx3duck980 ya
Indian ringtail review soon pls
I always laugh when Americans call Galah's a cockatoo when you consider they aren't even in the same family of birds.
What are you talking about?
Do quaker parrots!!
No, the Corella is, or bare eyed cockatoo, I have the greatest bird u could get!
Couple of things mate, not sure what your pet store told you, but I'm not sure that bird is 100% galah... i think it's a cross with a sulphur. If the store said they lived from 50 t 70 years, that makes sense. Sulphur crested cockatoos live from 50 to 100 years (!), and galahs are a little less than that.
Also. I'm very grateful you call it a galah, more often, Americans call them rose breasted cockatoos- something they are never called over here, but your pronunciation needs some work. The way you said it is the way an Aussie would say "gala". We don't emphasise the "a" in the beginning of the word. It's not a perfect analogy, but if you pronounced it a if it rhymed with "blah" possibly even a shortened "yada"...
Finally, DEFINITELY let kids interact with these things. BUT they need to be supervised and taught, just like learning any other skill. Leaving a kid alone with any animal is a recipe for disaster.
One last thing.... learn to build! All the stuff i have for my birds is home made. A perch is a stick!
The seeds with wood chips is a good idea.
Did lots of research apart from how to pronounce "Galah" properly. galarrrrrrrrr. LOL
I would say that parrots tend to not appreciate the types of gestures you're making, especially so close to their faces.
Aside from that, as others have said the pronunciation is guh-laa.
This is elementary-level information that you've clearly just grabbed from Wikipedia and/or overviews which are easily Googled. Very low effort.
Can I ask why the bird was panting this entire video? It seems genuinely uncomfortable.
To all brid owners. Never clip a birds wings. Proffesionals never clip wings, it's cruel and sadistic.
in aus we pronouce it (gul ahhhh)
Im allergic to dust so cockatoos aren’t for me
This bird looks stressed he is panting
Any reason why your parrot panting so hard?
I think that galahs live up to 80
FFS it is not "Gulluh" it is a Galah.
It looks like that poor bird is having breathing problems. Is it OK?
Sometimes a bird might be stressed out with filming but later in the video you'll see it calm down
oh and is 3 months of research enough?
He’s not breathing right.. 🥺
It was a bit stressed at the beginning of filming but you'll see in the video by the end, got super chill and hung out on my shoulder
@@Fivesaflock I see that, but it’s still not fair to the baby.
Yes. I've had my galah for 6 years and she doesn't breathe luke that
Mine breathed like that when she was a baby or when she gets very nervous.
Its not pronounced go lah, it is gal ah
