Yesterday I went to a popular tourist location near my home with a bunch of locally owned businesses. One of them was a petting zoo and outside of it were two macaws and a third bird I couldn't identify. The macaws were together in a cage meant for parakeets and were clearly stressed and upset to the point they were plucking out their feathers. It didn't help that there were little kids going up to the cage and hitting it. It takes a quick and easy search to learn that you don't do that stuff with macaws yet there they were
Update: Went back there again last month and they were still there, but they'd been moved into a new cage out of kid's reach and were much happier and better taken care of
Agree on all counts. Don;t forget that if you are doing something, they have to see what you are doing and they have to be in the middle of it. My bird likes the computer and likes to know where I am in the house. Really funny when your on a phone call and the person on the other end has no idea what is making those noises!

Not a good reason to get one…. I had 5 and then I got sick! They live for up to 60 or so years! Vet bills are very very expensive! Food is super expensive organic fruits and veggies. They need their own room and a screened in porch to let them fly. They need to be out all day and just get put away when you are asleep or grocery shopping. You need to be home all day. Listen to this women…. She is so right! This is and should never be an impulse buy and you need to hear them scream in a small empty room for an hour before you know if you can handle the noise. And a bag of bird food is only half the cost cause it’s only half of what they eat. You need to meal prep and shop for them to eat correctly and the toys are 50 to 60 dollars a toy that might last a week. And these are the must haves! They also have the ability to reason and figure things out! They can also break out of their cage and chew through the Sheetrock and 2 by 4s to the outside of your house in about an hour if they really want to! That is no joke… very expensive!!!! A 18 month old toddler with the ability to dismantle a house with their beaks for 60 plus years!

The female is half wild so we 'ignore' her but her mate was hand raised and is a total champ. sometimes he wants nothing more than to learn new tricks, solve puzzels etc, sometimes he wants none of that. sometimes his mate, the half wild female will be right there with him interacting with us, other times she doesnt wonna even leave the cage
We had a blue n gold , cockatoo n a blue front amazon. All of them would eat table food n seed.. our blue n gold was just goofy clown n sweet. The blue front was bipolar.. the cockatoo was sweet but a complete basket case.
Prices vary quite a bit, depending on age, and where you get a Macaw from. No, this is not a suitable companion for a budgie. Their sizes are not compatible and either are there temperaments.

One for 31 years since he hatched....the other one's 1st owner died of lung cancer and he's been with us for 9 years...he still performs the deep severe coughing bouts once in a while.. 😢 They are an acquired taste...it's like living with loud, demanding, messy ,raucous and destructive 2 yr old toddlers😂😅😂 But they are very interesting and wonderful companions...I can't imagine my life without macaws or peacocks😂

Where are you located ? What is the most common way people come across these parrots as pets ? Are they hatched? If so , are there cirtain states or laws with getting them as pets ..do most of them come from wild or what do the babies look like and when do you start training it thank you
"one alone is torture" finally. I see SO MANY videos where they say its fine to have birds alone & i think that is plain wrong. Birds are social, intelligent creatures, who needs a lot of care and company (bird company) to thrive. Here in germany we have laws against holding birds alone - even if im not sure if all are covered, but macaws are for sure. Just my 2 cents
It breaks my heart when people have a parent alone. At least, if they are two of the species, it’s better than nothing. I have heard of your law, I think it is a good one. Two of a species makes all the difference, it makes apparent much happier. I have very few behavior issues, and very little Plucking. As a matter fact, Most of my parents, the pluck or adopted that way and they haven’t gotten worse. I attribute they’re not hormonal, not anxiety, filled and not plucking personalities to the fact that they usually have another other species and if not, there is a whole flock of birds here. I do believe it is a part of well-being. Thank you for posting!
You definitely shouldn't buy one of these if your in a tiny apartment. Although to be fair, with them costing thousands of dollars- if you live in a small apartment, you shouldn't be frivolous with that kind of money anyway.
Because of their nails? (I call them talons!) When they aren't nervous they don't tend to grip too hard. And I keep their nails filed. I just file lightly and often as needed.

I agree- some people free-fly, but not everyone has the time to do this every day so then they need that space.
@@ParrotBliss free flying isnt what is most time consuming I think, but the training for it maybe, and the weather, like when its cold here in Norway its not for tropical birds and they need to fly then to. I had a love bird ones who free flew outside, best feeling. Hope one day to have an other bird I can take outside like that. Or two so they have company. One with less high pitch sound then love birds 😅 Golden conure you have postes about has my attention. Time will show. Thanks for replaying.
I changed my search from owning a macaw to owning a beautiful house 😅
That’s some dirty pool in and out 😂
Thanks!
Oh, thank you! Much appreciated!
I want one! I will kiss it and hug it and love it and feed it and play with it and snuggle with it!
That’s what they love!
I didn’t have the energy for one so I got an bearded dragon
Smart! They take time and energy, for sure.
I generally want a macaw but my house is too small
Why not get a smaller Macaw?
@@ParrotBliss 🤷♂️
I have a umbrella cockatoo and she is a rescue and a yellow nape Amazon l have had 10 parrots at one time l baby sat a blue and gold macaw l loved her .l had her for 9 months
Nice! How do you like your umbrella?

Yeah, Macaws are forces to be reccond with!
I need another macaw for my my girl Rosie. She’s a 15 year old green wing macaw
@@luanahaigood278 visit or call Bird Garden of Naples- Your Rosie needs an adult 😀
@@ParrotBliss I now live in Missouri. I have 3.5 acres. Building an aviary so I can take her out in warm months. I rescued her a year ago. She had never been handled. She’s my best friend. She is the sweetest bird. I also rescued a Sulfur Crested Cockatoo as well. He has bonded with me too. He is so funny. He had not been handled either. Both of them love being on my shoulder or lap. I want to rescue Macaw. I would love to come down there and give another a forever home with lots of love. But I bet they wouldn’t work with me.
Unless things have changed, they work with anyone in the US. Your aviary sounds so awesome! Contact them, I bet Rosie and your Sulfur would love another flock member!
@@ParrotBliss thank you love. I’m going too. Thank you for your responses. You’re my favorite bird mama I watch your channel for years. I love your approach to caring for your birds. I have your book coloring books and tshirts. I was worried they wouldn’t ship.
Very good video my friend
Thanks! Looks like you have a large one too?
First ask yourself: "can I handle all that cute?"
So much cute! And love- loud love!
With the cute comes bipolar. They switch in they blink of an eye. And they,re moody & can be hormonal at times.
What if I buy 2 Macaws, and 2-3 years later I will buy another 1-2 macaws. Will they fight each other, or macaws are really friendly to other new macaws, new family members?
Looking to publish a video for you tomorrow, please watch for the new vids
@@ParrotBliss Nice, can't wait!

Thank you for saying so!
What would you suggest a starter bird of a person planning on getting a macaw?
Have you had other parrots before?
Can you send me a link of a trusted site to buy a macaw. I had a blue and gold 10 years ago and would love to have another one
Send me a message on FB/instagram and ask me there, I’ll give you a number
damn, my GF and i have 2 lovebirds, so as small as parrots get, and we have our hands full with them, sometimes literally. they have the run of the house half the week when the cat doors are locked.
Sounds like you have great birds!
I just got a macaw 2 weeks ago love him I have 11 other parrots but smaller spieces
Cool! Congrats! What kind of Macaw?
@@ParrotBliss thanks you! severe macaw
We had a blue n gold , cockatoo n a blue front amazon. All of them would eat table food n seed.. our blue n gold was just goofy clown n sweet. The blue front was bipolar.. the cockatoo was sweet but a complete basket case.
Amazing birds though, right? Sounds like you had a fantastic flock!
Who is the young lady on the rocking chair? 🙂
How much do they cost im interested in them and do they get along with budgies
Prices vary quite a bit, depending on age, and where you get a Macaw from. No, this is not a suitable companion for a budgie. Their sizes are not compatible and either are there temperaments.
Can you do a video on how to keep them out but get them back in
@@jumankayer5947 what do you mean by keep them out?
@@ParrotBliss like how do you get them to free fly but come back to you
i want to get a macaw. i have never owned a bird, but i really want a macaw
They are amazing, but intimidating. Spend time with some as much as you can so you get an idea as to what they are like.
@@ParrotBliss i don't know anyone with a bird...let alone a macaw...
I’d feel bad to get one until I had a house like this :/
That shows you understand what it takes to make sure you will have a great relationship with your parrot and a happy parrot!
@@ParrotBliss One day!
I have 2 blue and golds. One for 31 years since he hatched....the other one's 1st owner died of lung cancer and he's been with us for 9 years...he still performs the deep severe coughing bouts once in a while.. 😢
They are an acquired taste...it's like living with loud, demanding, messy ,raucous and destructive 2 yr old toddlers😂😅😂
But they are very interesting and wonderful companions...I can't imagine my life without macaws or peacocks😂
Peacocks!?! Awesome! We have some in a neighborhood close by, love seeing them!
Yes, crazy and not easy to take care of -- and awesome. Can't live without them!
My mom is thinking of getting a Macaw, we currently have an Eclectus and used to have an umbrella cockatoo.
Macaws are awesome - louder than the Eckie. I think, after the umbrella, you will all like the Macaw. What happened to the Umbrella?
You might want to pick up a copy of my book, "How to Clean 10 yhears of Bird Shit of Your Back Patio".
I'm a recovering perfectionist and having parrots has advanced me quite a bit!
I really want a scarlet macaw
Great video, regards all the way from Kuwait City
Thank you- and greetings to you in Kuwait!
trust me they can talk, and man can they scream ,
Yes, can they ever!
I went to a bird place and heard one shriek, it's insane. Couldn't imagine having one in my house, very cool to see once though!
then parrots are not for you whatsoever you are better off with fish , @@-Ld
@@GODisLIGHT-k2g parrots are not for the majority of people, they're cool to see occasionally though
I have a thick long-sleeves shirt for the macaw, otherwise the claws sink into my arm.
Yes, we constantly do light nail trimming. I don’t like shoe do too much so that they don’t bleed. Which means, a lot of trimming. And yes! Such a grasp!
Can you tell me where to buy one.
Most exotic bird stores have them
Macaws eat almost everything but avocados are not good for there diet and I also have a green wind, a blue and gold and harlequin
Yes, they are good eaters
What about fruits?
Limited. I would focus on sweet carrots, sweet potatoes and other beta carotene fruits/veg for them
mine is clingy AF 😂
Yeah, they love attention-
Not even another huge thing. They’ll outlive you. You have to gave a plan of who takes care of after you pass.
Absolutely. There are no guarentees that they will or wont so it is best to be prepared.
that's what I have a catilina mackaw
Catalina Macaws are so beautiful!
i figure id start out with a chattering lory their small like too be played with and eat nectar mix mostly
They are amazing birds!
I've been looking for a macaw to adopt but it's hard to find living in michigan
If you are seriously wanting one, message me on instagram and I’ll connect you with a reliable seller (where I got mine and am getting another) who ships
Do u give them fresh veggies and fruit
I do. I believe it is part of a balanced diet and important for them.
the best thing about owning macaws is that their poop doesnt smell👍
They are also one of the only ones big enough to hug!
Very tamed ❤
So sweet!
I have a Parrotlet it’s so nice
They are awesome!
@@ParrotBliss I agree
How much are they worth
Depends on where you live and what species-
we'd have fun together, my family are always telling me to shut up about my birds, we free fly in ireland..i'm not sure why but macaw owners seem to be able to take the scratches and scars, my hubsand is sporting a black eye atm, all just he put his foot in the wrong place flying in hot after a crow chase, him chasing the crows lately,
I love it! So cool that you free fly! Yeah, my family knows the 10 second rule: no one talks, I start talking about parrots…. LOL
My aunt has a macaw who is scared of people and i am trying to befriend him
Be patient
I have a blue and gold macaw
Watching this has really given me the motivation to start my own relaxation channel. The way you capture the macaws is so peaceful. Time to bring my own nature videos to life! @costaricaforexpats
Anyone have advice on scarlet macaws? I'm hoping to get one and have been doing tons of research but I'd love to know about these guys from people who have personal experiences and for those who have had any issues. I need some realistic thoughts from y'all
Sorry, I haven't had the pleasure of a Scarlet
I really want a Painted Conure, Blue Throated Conure and Bronzed Winged Pionus but all those birds are hard to find! D':
They are - do you live in the US? I have a friend who can get you one, if you are serious and willing to wait until their season (when there are babies available). If so, you can contact me through my website contact form: ParrotBliss.com
Oh wow that's so nice of you I do live in the U.S. which species are you able to get me of the 3 I mentioned?
I wanna get one🥹🤎🔥
They are amazing!
Hi I am in Botswana 🇧🇼 I would like to adopt a parrot
Sorry, the people selling birds I know are in the US and the US doesn’t ship over seas.
Where are you located ? What is the most common way people come across these parrots as pets ? Are they hatched? If so , are there cirtain states or laws with getting them as pets ..do most of them come from wild or what do the babies look like and when do you start training it thank you
Where do you live?
I think the parrot on the left understands some English
I think all parrots do...
You definitely shouldn't buy one of these if your in a tiny apartment. Although to be fair, with them costing thousands of dollars- if you live in a small apartment, you shouldn't be frivolous with that kind of money anyway.
Yeah, no way a parrot this size doesn’t cause problems with the neighbors, to say the least.
No glove?
Because of their nails? (I call them talons!)
When they aren't nervous they don't tend to grip too hard. And I keep their nails filed. I just file lightly and often as needed.
@@ParrotBliss 🫶🏻 that’s amazing! They are so snuggly with you guys, it seemed inevitable to be scratched by their talons accidentally.
Love the beautiful Macaws but too much responsibility and life long commitment to take care of as they sometimes out live us.
More than their lifespan, yes. They are not easy to care for because they are so big and have such needs.
Im a 12 year and i'm going to get a camelot or catlina but i have expiernce with birds so im ready
Im getting a baby*
