Zverev took this loss pretty rough. I haven't been the biggest fan as he can seem kind of bratty and full of himself (put myself up there), but he showed a lot of heart this tournament. He's still only 23 years old, and with some maturing, he'll have chances in the future :)

I do sometimes wonder what interviewers are expecting to hear from young men and women, who have literally just walked off court with one of the greatest disappointments in their professional career. Do they want an analytical breakdown, first hand, of what the runner-up did wrong or how they could've done better or just rip their guts out with emotional questioning to provoke a reaction?
Well done to Sascha for reminding them what he'd just been through and why he doesn't want to expand on that...

I wouldn't do better than Zverev, but there are some guys that can handle wins and losses almost the same way. They just analyze reasons for the result and make their statements.
The ironic thing is, that the media and spectators don't like these type of persons and prefer more emotional reactions. Even if they are bad ones.
In the end I am happy for Thiem that he finally has won his first grand slam and happy for Zverev that he definitely has proven to be very close to the top and be able to play great serve&volley plus act like a gentleman. Zverev's brand should be the best it has ever been. And if he can continue playing like in the first 2 sets, he will win multiple grand slams, especially in Wimbledon.

a lot of people confuse his confidence with arrogance. he’s clearly put in the time, effort, and work to be better and that’s evident in the two slams this year. if you don’t believe in yourself, who else will? so why would you not believe in yourself?!

People often forget that Federer had a heartbreaking loss in a fourth-set tiebreaker against Tim Henman at the 2001 Wimbledon championships. In the press conference after the match, Roger claimed cramp was the only thing that stopped him from winning the championship and continued to make the astonishing claim that in years to come he was going to dominate the ATP tour and beat the grand slam record that Sampras was going to set. People thought he was arrogant for making such claims when, in actual fact, he was being humble and honest. Zverev is much the same, and I can absolutely see him winning a whole bunch of slams in years to come.

The only positive I see about this: it was Alexander Zverev's worst defeat in his career, and it will probably will be remain as the worst. He said it multiple times, two sets and a break up, first slam final, not facing any of the Big 3, serving for the fifth at 5-3, biggest chance he could possibly get. If and when he overcomes this defeat, he would be able to overcome any other that follows and start to play a lot more freely in those crucial moments.

Domi learned a lot from 3 Grand Slam final losses in consecutive years, and that was what fuelled the determination that won him the US Open. But you can not be 100% sure. We were sure we had seen many of Roger's worst defeats, including 2008 Wimbledon final. But then Wimbledon 2019 happened. If you are not mentally tough, sports is a real heartbreak.

Vineet Singh Roger is a champion. It’s difficult for someone to do what he did. There was a decline phase and he came back to win 3 another majors..Many people would have retired at that decline phase. He’d to face insults not reaching finals and getting beaten. He'll be fine, but he had the match in the bag. Winning when you're young sets the standard for an entire career, eg. Federer, Nadal, Djokovic. Zverev lost in a tie-break - heartbreaking. I wish him imminent success.
Thiem, no doubt, deserved to win. He's much older (in tennis terms) and responded exceptionally after losing sets 1 and 2. Congratulations to the champion.

Uh...don't forget Thiem is almost 28. He's blown a few semis and finals by choking as well. I think everyone has forgotten that. How many master 1000s had Thiem won by the time he was 18 or 19?

Sascha (Alexander) Zverev deserved to walk from this court as the winner of the Men‘s Singles US Open Championship 2020 ! He was BY FAR the better player in the first two sets, and he led by a break in the third and fifth sets, only to be beaten in the 5th set tie-break by his cramping legs, through which he was unable to serve properly, and it was primarily through his service performance that he destroyed Thiem in the first two sets. If ever there was a loser who deserved to win, then it was Sascha Zverev on this occasion ! Sascha is a real gentleman, in stark contrast to some of his tennis-rowdy colleagues, who sadly lack both manners and sportsmanship. He is my Number One tennis player, and he will attain that ATP ranking one day as well !!! Fabulous guy !!! 👍👊👏

For me I think to counter that much hurt for having fallen short at the last hurdle,is to do postmortem immediately of what you should have done to a avoid such a defeat and helps fight any lingering doubts that might get in your way in the future, but then can you avoid cramps when they appear so suddenly?

Torn between the two. Both are exciting players. Dominic seems to give 200% with every shot he plays, probably that gave him an upper hand though in last minutes. Sacha was nervous as he almost had his hands wrapped around the trophy, many slips between the cup and the lip. Congrats both.

Many comments saying he is a brat. I think he has to listen to his coach, his dad or David Ferrer. He has that bratty way of doing what he wants and period. Both finalist were asked for their coaches; Thiem showing great respect for his and Zverev saying I just lost...(because of Ferrer or his dad?) He is so so so talented, but still does not have the head and heart connected to his talent. If he connects mentally with the game and gets more respectful with his coaches, this guy will be; ‘the bomb’!

  • @timothynguyen8343

He lost because he needs to learn to consistently put two serves together throughout a match. After that, he needs to focus on practicing serve and volley, and cross court forehands. Then he will become dangerous.
Mental toughness is also his weakness. He needs to learn to play point by point and not look ahead. He needs to learn to forget the scoreline and just focus on winning one point at a time.

    • @parkercrossland410
