This was such a long-awaited and well-deserved win for Domi. He was a player that first caught my attention around 2 years ago due to not just his signature one-handed backhands, but also his down-to-earth and likeable personality off-court, along with having one of the ATP Tour’s most precious smiles. His recent winning record against the Big 3 (Federer, Nadal, Djokovic) is absolutely nothing to sneeze at, even beating Nadal on clay surfaces several times. Since appointing that master coach Massu, Domi has really evolved his game (especially on hardcourts) and it’s led to some big achievements like winning Indian Wells and making the final at the Nitto ATP Finals. He really started to become a favourite for me when he made it all the way to the Australian Open final, in which he took down Nadal in the QFs in the process and got so close to beating Djokovic for the title. Winning a Grand Slam title was a lifelong dream for Domi, and dedicated a lot to working hard to reach said dream. This US Open displayed that underneath that happy, friendly face of his, is a fighter who keeps going to the very end, never giving up. What Domi showed us is that when you never give up, you can achieve greatness. He’s such an inspirational guy with the dedication to the game who is only going to get stronger and that I think could see much greater success to come, even when the Big 3 are gone. Team Thiem is absolutely proud of him!
Dom always had the game, the weapons, playing consecutive rapid fire, turbo shots, often three or four of them, on both wings are weapons I have seen no other player execute, ever. Now Dom has belief.

I miss this guy man. Its still crazy to me this guy went from winning a grand slam win to not winning a match in like over a year I think and in present day hes at the bottom playing challengers barely getting by.... Its a shame what injuries can do. He kind of reminds me of the derrick rose of tennis if drose and the bulls won in 2011. Either way..its a small and rare chance of happening but I hope Domi can get back to a high level again..or at least get back onto the atp tour

This grandslam title is legitimate. If you're saying otherwise you don't know anything about tennis. This was even harder because there were no fans to help them through the hard moments. Thiem almost beat Djokovic in a grandslam final earlier this year at the Australian Open. If you can't accept that he probably would've beat Novak in a final here if it weren't for his disqualification than you are a hater. Thiem will win Roland Garros at some point and you will all shut up about this title and will count it then.
"Probably"? No. His performance in the final against Zverev was not his best tennis, and he won it because while both being nervous, Thiem had more experience. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad he won, and it is definetely a legitimate title (keeping things under control is part of the game, as everything else). But on hard court, Djokovic is still better. How you played in the Australien Open 2020 and here is amazing. The Level of your Game is now so high you cannot lose against the low ranked player. Under 100 no one has a chance against you in the top 100 you win pretty sure and easy, against top 20 players 10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1 pretty easy.Djokovic,Nadal,Federer they are the men to beat. You have such safety and power in every shot it is beyond belief. You just have to be yourself and the success comes from alone.
Messy final, really an error show. For Thiem though, he beat 2 top 10 players along the way so it was a decent win, pretty convincing. For the women's side one barely needs to beat a top 15 to win a slam now lol (which was totally unheard of in the 90's) so I think Thiem got his fair share.
Yeah this is actually quite similar to Djoko's showing in the 2021 French Open Final. Both Thiem and Djoko had to execute super special game plans to get past their respective semifinal opponents in the USO (Medvedev)/FO (Nadal)....to the point where it was actually a tough transition going back to their usual effective strategies in their final victories.

Seems as if Thiem used a crazy mix of slices, lots of tactically aggressive "pushing" to give Danil a taste of his own medicine, angle, heavy topspin, and power all at the right times to take that Semi.
