There's something about this final that just feels lifeless, idk why. The crowd wasn't super loud, and both guys looked exhausted from the jump (especially Novak). Their 2015 French Open Final and Australian Open meetings were much more interesting.
I see this with most of the matches in the US open especially after the quarterfinals, i think the NYC weather in September is not conducive and pretty tiring, plus its the last major of the year and players come really tired by that time after all the tours they play

After 2014, Stan was truly the only guy who could truly take it to Novak when he was at his best at the majors. Between 2011 and 2014 Federer/Nadal/Murray were all still able to beat him at the majors. But something clicked after 2014 where he was just unbeatable at his best for the next 8 seasons or so- except against Stan. Stan was just the only guy who had both the sheer power and mental fortitude to take him out. Federer and Nadal both seemingly had mental blocks against Novak at the majors for years, but for whatever reason Stan didn’t have that.

It's a story that can't be denied... Stan's confidence in Novak is astonishingly high. Even right after winning in five sets against an average opponent, he is confident he can beat Novak in four sets.
i could tell Warinka was ready from the first point shown. he actually delayed his forehand a mili-second to either throw off Djokovics rythm or to scan the court. different than just robot-hitting.
Stan here becoming one of a limited number of players to win a grand slam after having been match point down in an earlier match. In round 3 he was match point down to Dan Evans. Novak Djokovic must have dreaded seeing Stan in the final. On his day, Stan was one of the few players who could punch through Novak's baseline defence. Also, in every one of Stan's grand slam wins, he beat Novak along the way.
It was Stanimal's 3rd and final slam title. He is now shadow of his former self and can't put a descent fight. And the other side, Djoko have 12 slams at that time and later added another 12 slams. He is now record 24 slam winner.
With Wawrinka, there is really no such thing as punishing the backhand. It just isn't a thing. His BH is no weaker than a double BH. On the contrary it is like a trick shot and a weapon all at once.
