+Mdelta2000 haha, its funny because I was actually building trucks out of kinex and "mars" rovers too! Of course, all for fun, but little did I know!!!
+Mdelta2000 Nah....ChristFix started learning all about cars when he was merely a single cell. When he was born, he tied his umbilical cord into a steering wheel shape, which became the first steering wheel he owned after the nurse cut it out.
+Shaquille S - Why not? In some cities, not having a car is doable and even preferable (Amsterdam, eg), but in some others it's a necessity. I didn't have one for years because of repressive fines and imprisonment by the local government here (Kansas City, Kansas, USA), and in this city, you really need one. Anyway, if you are mechanically inclined, cost isn't an issue. With some effort, you can find a broken vehicle you can get going.
+Nehmo Sergheyev I live in a city 45 minutes from Amsterdam. I don't have a car because I'm to young to drive but I've always found mechanical videos fun to watch.
Ash U. - I once lived in Amsterdam-Oost. I didn't have a car while I was there and didn't even look into getting one. But, from my experience, I can say an ebike would definitely be an advantage in that city.
ChrisFix is the ultimate 'shade tree' mechanic and one hell of a videographer. Worth every minute of my viewing time. Just wish every auto mechanic had the same skills as Chris.
My mechanic followed these instructions to the "T" and it worked! I've had NO problems with the Hood Release since my mechanic fixed it! (Thanks Chris). I purchased a 2005 X-Type Jaguar (Made in Britain])! It is indeed a ""Classy Car." I'm maintaining iit to ensure it'll become Historic ! This is a Good Clean Race Car that's FUN to Drive !! I Love my Jag-U-ar! And NO, It's NOT a piece of crap! Like anything else... if you can afford to take care of it -- it will Take care of You!!!
I love how easy you make your videos man. I've always worked on my own vehicles, and I know a lot about it, but you make it so easy to solve a friend or family members problem. If they come to me with an issue, I simply redirect them to an appropriate video of yours. You're a life saver, keep up the good work.
Chris... I can’t thank you enough. I was replacing the radiator on my Mercedes and I had to remove the latches to take it out. When I closed the hood, it got stuck on one side. Your video helped me solve the problem. So, thank you, thank you, thank you. Greetings from Guatemala!
Chris, I have to say, your videos are some of the best car videos that I can find. Not to sound rude or anything, but jeeps don't have this problem. Just open the straps, lift the hood up a little bit, push the hood release lever, and just open it. The one downside to the jeep hood is that there's no spring retention system. Got to use the old fashion hood rod.
At 3:29, if it's a tight and blind fit, I'll tape a piece of electrical wire scrap to the old cable and pull it through. Then I'll leave it laying through till I run the new cable at which time I'll attach and draw back forward the new cable. It makes the job go way faster and smoother.

CHRIS! I AM IMPRESSED! As a low power tech, I was thinking you will want to use the old cable to fish in the new cable, and that is mostly what you did. The only change I would make is to leave the engine part of the cable parted as the factory did it, then pull into the existing path just through all the right spaces as the manufacturer did it. Great Job!!
Your videos has really kind of become my safe spot of some sort. I mean like every time I’m feeling a bit down or if I’m just bored or if I’m having a bad day. I just watch a couple of your videos and I’m back at being happy again. Just got out of a break up a few hours ago so ur videos are really helpful right now. Thank you for being who you are and I just love ur content man! Keep up the good work bro!
just a tip when pulling the old /new cable through, spray the cable with silicone spray or wd40 to help it slide through easier. That way you don't put too much tension on the new cable.
This is such a fool-proof way of making car related tutorials I love it. Went to check my first car yesterday and the used car tutorial helped a lot. LOL Chris makes it all look so easy while I'm looking at it 2 hours later, and only about half way through, thinking it's time to take a well needed break.
Chris actually spends 10% effort in fixing cause he mastered all the fixing and the other 90% for getting killer camera angles. You're a legend, Chris! 😂
Your timing couldn't have been more perfect ! I already have a broken hood cable issue on my dad's Mercedes w123 for months and we couldn't open the hood for the life of us even when I went on the forums to find a solution. Gonna try it tomorrow
I'm a big car person. I am 14, and a couple months ago, I decided to start saving for my first car. I'm hoping for a 2007 Toyota Camry Hybrid SE thats still in good shape, or with cosmetic damage such as pullable dents, or fixable curb rash, that can be restored, but will decrease its selling price for when I purchase it, (I'm extremely OCD when it comes to keeping things tidy and clean). I figure since I'm saving for a car, and have access to my dad's entire workshop for doing things like cleaning up old bikes and restoring old house fixtures like antique windows and built-ins (some of my other hobbies when I'm not playing Forza), I'll learn about how to do anything from getting a good deal on a reliable car, to at home repair work and super-cleaning. I am glad I found your channel, since the information is precise, and easy to follow along with, not to mention it is fun and satisfying to watch. I am looking forward to having a clean, healthy car in the next two or three years! Keep up the quality work!
And they say maintaining a Jaguar costs thousands! Doesn't look expensive or difficult haha. I know on Hondas the cable goes inside the fender along the body and you have to pull inner fender plastic to get access.
+February 1990 and up Jaguars (or Forduars in this case) aren't made to last in the slightest. Their parts are extremely expensive, the labor is intense thanks to the stupid engineering, and it's almost guaranteed that any modern jag you see with more than 120k has been through at least one engine and two transmissions.
+February The parts are a lot more expensive than say a domestic car. For example, a water pump on my truck is 39 bucks. On this jaguar, it's 191 dollars plus a core charge. Compare the prices to your car on any parts store's website. Most stores won't have the part in stock, or even carry it at all.
Cake Face They are not a Honda, but they are not an italian Fiat either. My favorites are X300 and X308 bodystyles. X300 had a few small problems (mostly electrical like clock not working or power seat switches not working), but their inline 6 was very reliable as was the ZF auto. Maintenance is cheap if you do the work yourself. X308 V8 did suffer from Nikasil liners being eaten away by sulfur in the fuel and plastic timing chain tensioners breaking because bad quality plastic was weakened by engine oil. These issues were fixed after September of 2000. Compared to pre 1992 Jaguars, Ford really fixed how these cats were built. It would be a fun project car and I believe a reliable daily if you are mechanically confident and competent.
I love all the upcoming video ideas you have Chris, but do you remember the police interceptor project, with the center console? can you do another final video on that, I've been waiting for that for months!! did you get your ideas for the c. console accepted by the officer already?
Thanks so much for this, the release on our car just decided to break so, this means I now have NO issues replacing it! So clear and great camera work!!!!
My 2002 Jaguar X type cable fell off. Of 5 previous videos, this one is the best and I watched to the end on how to replace the cable if necessary. Thank you Chris.
im lost at words for how extremely helpful your videos are Chris, couldve looked you up on youtube way back before i spent so much money being ripped off by auto shops. ;( also, please do a video of how to fix a car door that wont lock
Excellent demonstration by someone thoroughly familiar with solving this problem and repairing it. I just bought a 2004 Jaguar X type car with this precise problem and my mechanic couldn't solve the problem. Your demo was so very helpful, I felt compelled to express my gratitude. Fantastic job! 😊 Thank you! Now I will check a few garages and show them the video if the seem clueless or unfamiliar. Why the bloody hell did they design the car with two freaking latches tho???? Safety my Azz, one latch is sufficient, cost less all around as this it seems is a very common problem with Jaguars. Bought this car out of Japan and it was shipped here and we discovered this problem upon its arrival.
Thanks so much for making and posting these videos. You have no idea how invaluable this is. I get so frustrated with mechanics where I keep going back for the same issue that is not properly resolved, usually from short cuts and in most cases; for not being familiar with my car or just careless. Believe it or not those manuals can be tough to interpret even with photos. Sometimes it is the wording that can mess it up too. You make the language easy to comprehend in straight up fashion. So thank you, big time!
Also...just to give you a chuckle..I thought the hood release wasn't working...but I was pulling on the BRAKE release lever the whole time...newer car...dummy ;)) Hood release works fine...lubed the heck out of it anyway...
+Jeremy Raber your parking break should be able to hold ur car...try testing it by-putting it on drive and slowly releasing the accelerator...right chris?
Hey, this video showed me exactly where to look and what to look for. I used a large flat head screwdriver rather than a pry and it only took about 3-4 mins to pop it open. Cheers!!
hey Chris FIx, just wanted to give you a HUGE thank you, because of you im a PROUD owner of a 2003 CVPI and purchased a perfect condition vehicle thanks to your checklist i printed out, the owner gave me an odd look lol but it helped!!!! you are AWESOME! literally everything im curious about i just youtube it and you pop up!! keep up the great work!
This incredible video SAVED MY LIFE today, because the hood was suddenly locked and I am selling my X-Type tomorrow 😰. It's working now after 2 hours of work 😊😊😅 Exactly what I needed. Only one remark, you need to partially remove the plastic protection under the motor before seeing the latch. I spent 45 min looking for it before that lol
Smashing tutorial chris :-D That old coaxial cable looked really crusty, no oil for years :-( Is the replacement cable a pattern part or from one of the companys that owned jaguar at one time or another?
+cjmillsnun lol yes i can believe that, some people dont like the mondeo, but ive known frends have them for years, did the job. I like ford in general, well growing up with uk made fords does bias my view, and the parts are not too expensive. That cable in the jag/mondeo looks like it could be made with parts from a motorbike shop, if it was hard to get.
Its a shame really, the jaguar used to be a special car before the uk company died, the ford version is ok but its a badge, i suppose its better than no jaguar at all, shame though :-(. Dont get me wrong, i like ford, i grew up with them.
Chris I love the upbeat attitude in your newer videos. It makes them great to watch. I appreciate how you lay out the tools and steps and show the potential gottyahhs or differences we might encounter. Thanks,
Love the attention to detail, showing mechanisms with sample parts, and the excellent camera angles. I watched this entire video, and I don't even own a Jaguar!
Gonzo Lima it take time m8 to edit lets say he does a video of replacing something he has to edit alot insted of making an paint where he only paint and does not have to explain everything see m8 i cant spell sry
Funny you pick an X-type Jag for this demo. My '00 XJ8 hood cable just gave up the ghost. I've since found out that they are JUNK on Jags .. they are always snapping, and the replacement part cost is over $160.00 or so. Grrrrr! Special issue with Jags here is that the hoods (oops "bonnet") open back to front, instead of the typical front to back with most cars. So, there is no removing the grill or attempting to work through one to pop the latch. Fortunately, Jag has an access hole in the front wheel arch (I think on either one) that, after popping out a blanking piece, you can go up with a long stick and pop the hood release on either side (apparently they realize what a PITA their hood cables are).
You have really quality content. I don't have a car and I definitely don't work on them. But I love the way your videos are shot and narrated. So I've been watching for hours.
I’ve got a hornets nest in a car that’s been sitting for 20+ years and the hood won’t open. Guess I gotta try to do this before I can remove the nest……great🙄
Hi. chris... some useful hints however it is impossible to feed the new cable from inside the car and must be fed from the engine compartment into the cabin and then connect to the lever. Very easy. I have just done it! All the best
+Andy Campos Those who wanted to break into a hood could do it, if you don't want it, just weld some metal to the underside of the latch, and bam, no one will be able to open it.
Sure dude if you have a car replace the exuast bearings in your civic and blinker fluid. I'm just gonna try to help idc if your 2 on your moms laptop tell her to use blunker fluid
Depends on how you feel about a better looking, better handling, better driving Ford Mondeo, because that's what it is. Its degree of crappiness is... i would say perhaps somewhat less solid than you'd expect of an executive car, but not really bad at all. And i mean they are very cheap to buy and not expensive to maintain, it's not as if you got anything exotic.
It sounds weird, but compared to some of your older videos, in these newer ones your voice is much more upbeat and confident. Its a small detail but I really think it helps make these videos better. Great work!
man this vid was sooooo helpful today was such a bad day and noe that i found you i can finnaly fix up my car. my wipers didnt work. gas meter broken ran out of gas. and now hood wont open. this video is first step to making my baby brand new. thanks alot you just made my day bright.
Here it is the very first chrisfix video I watched and ever since I watched this video I've been a huge fan thank you so much for giving us tutorials on how to fix stuff on our cars and I hope you get to 10 million as fast as possible
You obviously can tell the "trolls" are out as anyone who dislikes this video is just that...a troll. This video is a perfect tutorial on how to do this job, especially for X-Type owners. Great job Chris!!!

Glad the video was helpful!
My 2002 Jaguar X type cable fell off. Of 5 previous videos, this one is the best and I watched to the end on how to replace the cable if necessary. Thank you Chris.
7:10, that blur. Lol.
He never showed his face?
+Adrn Ncso the blur didn't look to be near his face in his reflection, hes face seemed more up and to the left of the blur? Maybe i'm wrong.
ikr 😂😂😂
+blues03 The funny thing is that you can see his face in older videos XD
he made an plastic and went wrong...
I have a jag and it's old
this is very helpful
Glad the video was helpful!
im lost at words for how extremely helpful your videos are Chris, couldve looked you up on youtube way back before i spent so much money being ripped off by auto shops. ;( also, please do a video of how to fix a car door that wont lock
Im glad the videos are helpful!
ChrisFix I like to gain knowledge from these for when I get a car in 4 years and my dad watches you too :)
So thank you, big time!
normal car...1 latch...jaguar needs 2 latches!
fancy, huh?
My Audi 80 from '86 has two too! Wish this video was online 4 weeks ago, would've saved me a lot of time thinking haha
Fancy
My fathers 2015 Audi S6 has two!
+ThatGuyNamedScott. C just checked, our Audi A6 2004 has two too
Dang...that's some great filming...thanks
Thanks!
Also...just to give you a chuckle..I thought the hood release wasn't working...but I was pulling on the BRAKE release lever the whole time...newer car...dummy ;)) Hood release works fine...lubed the heck out of it anyway...
Nice video, very detailed with good camera angles....so from the looks of it, it looks like u decided to buy the jaguar.
+Carlos Rosete Yeah, he actually bought it before the video series were uploaded.
+Carlos Rosete Thanks! Yes, I got the jag in this video: ruclips.net/video/drbhNLvYxGQ/видео.html
+ChrisFix you should make a video on how to fix a parking brake when I put it in park the car rolls yet a couple inches
+Jeremy Raber your parking break should be able to hold ur car...try testing it by-putting it on drive and slowly releasing the accelerator...right chris?
+Carlos Rosete thanks!! :)
7:10 did he blur his self in that car window?
umm yep i see him but its blured
Yes what a weirdo lol. His face is already on RUclips. Not on his channel but others
@@rypdx video is 4 years old dude
I have a jag x type with the same problem
Jaguar hood wouldn't open! Found Chris Fix! Hood opens!! Magic!!!!
This incredible video SAVED MY LIFE today, because the hood was suddenly locked and I am selling my X-Type tomorrow 😰. It's working now after 2 hours of work 😊😊😅
Exactly what I needed. Only one remark, you need to partially remove the plastic protection under the motor before seeing the latch. I spent 45 min looking for it before that lol
One of the best how to videos I ever seen on You Tube. Chris covered every aspect in detail and great camera work. Very professional.
+texasvice1 Thanks a lot!
U.R welcome Sir.
Smashing tutorial chris :-D
That old coaxial cable looked really crusty, no oil for years :-(
Is the replacement cable a pattern part or from one of the companys that owned jaguar at one time or another?
+zx8401ztv Its a Ford Jaguar. You can clearly see Ford stamped into the plastic on the interior hood release.
+zx8401ztv It's probably a part for a Mondeo, seeing as the X Type is a Mondeo Mk3 in a lot of places under the skin.
+cjmillsnun
lol yes i can believe that, some people dont like the mondeo, but ive known frends have them for years, did the job.
I like ford in general, well growing up with uk made fords does bias my view, and the parts are not too expensive.
That cable in the jag/mondeo looks like it could be made with parts from a motorbike shop, if it was hard to get.
I've discovered the Jaguar x-type is on a Ford Contour/ Mondeo chassis with a ford v-6 engine. Back when Jaguar was owned by ford
Its a shame really, the jaguar used to be a special car before the uk company died, the ford version is ok but its a badge, i suppose its better than no jaguar at all, shame though :-(.
Dont get me wrong, i like ford, i grew up with them.
Does anyone wonder how in the world he gets these great camera angles when underneath?
Lots of time, and special cameras.
Was the headlight fluid alright? Haha
+William Kolt ChrisFix April fools
Headlightsl fluid isn't a real thing. I think you confused it with blinker fluid.
+Timothy_Terror Yes, she was topped off the first day I got her!
+ChrisFix BMW seriously needs to work on their blinker fluid reservoirs, they're always running dry from leakage. Most owners have just given up.
+Timothy_Terror I remember that........... lol
Have been watching your videos for a while now. It has been a form of meditation to me. Great work Chris!
You make some of the best DIY videos for cars fixes I have seen. I love how you do your videos.
Thanks!
"And that pops right out"
Chrisfix - a lot.
If only the previous owner of my civic knew this, I wouldn't need to replace my hood and radiator support
What if you have no access to the latch, from underneath.... now what ?
Try to find access. Take the wheel off and the wheel-well liner off
Now you're screwed, find someone to fix it for you!
what if your hood opens backwards and yoyr engine and trans are in the way of the latch?
Chris I love the upbeat attitude in your newer videos. It makes them great to watch. I appreciate how you lay out the tools and steps and show the potential gottyahhs or differences we might encounter. Thanks,
Glad the videos are helpful!
Love the attention to detail, showing mechanisms with sample parts, and the excellent camera angles. I watched this entire video, and I don't even own a Jaguar!
if you check the how to paint your steel wheels video he has this same jaguar in the bavk
+Silvino Montiel yep
+Silvino Montiel he records he video and uploads them later -_-
+HowTo Gaming1080p better than uploading them recording -_-
Gonzo Lima it take time m8 to edit lets say he does a video of replacing something he has to edit alot insted of making an paint where he only paint and does not have to explain everything see m8 i cant spell sry
I never understood why someone would give a simple general "how to", a thumbs down...
glad i found this! i had this exact problem with this exact car haha
+GamingPredator perfect! Glad the video was helpful!
GamingPredator lmao literally me too 😂
Funny you pick an X-type Jag for this demo.
What if your hood opens backwards like in an old BMW etc?
The hood release is typically at where the hood meets the windshield at the corners. That is how it is on my Vette.
Hood won't open? Must have an LS motor.
I have a GMC Yukon, I don't what the engine looks like
I just want to know if the people who pressed the "dislike" button have a better idea.
Anas Alwash i got a great one. dont have a hood, much like my old magnum currently has.
This is by far the best video I’ve seen so far. I Love the way you got video of everything close and a split screen video
The best mechanic on the web. Thanks for video!
the bigger issue here is that the car is a jaguar lol
lol
Id rather go to the trunk instead of the hood...
+Aaronize haha
I’ve got a hornets nest in a car that’s been sitting for 20+ years and the hood won’t open. Guess I gotta try to do this before I can remove the nest……great🙄
Props to you for these crazy angles of everything... really sets you apart from the rest! Still can't figure out how you got the angle at 1:31 hahaha
Hi. chris... some useful hints however it is impossible to feed the new cable from inside the car and must be fed from the engine compartment into the cabin and then connect to the lever. Very easy. I have just done it! All the best
nice you showed 17k poeple how to break into a hood
+Andy Campos chris fix made the video in hopes you do it for good intentions tho bro,
+Andy Campos Those who wanted to break into a hood could do it, if you don't want it, just weld some metal to the underside of the latch, and bam, no one will be able to open it.
+Andy Campos To be fair I'm sure anyone who wanted to break into a hood would just use the pry bar to force the hood up causing great damage.
+Matt Bartholomew That's too much work. They more than likely would just pop the drivers side window, reach in and pull the hood release.
plot twist. mines won't close.
new latches?
new hood?
+East uneducated right. due to a typo lol anyway don't worry about the hood bought a new 16 mustang ha
East ha.
Sure dude if you have a car replace the exuast bearings in your civic and blinker fluid. I'm just gonna try to help idc if your 2 on your moms laptop tell her to use blunker fluid
Aren't Jaguars kind of pieces of crap?
no, unless you treat them as such.
Yep.
for Jaguar we speaking...
I've talked to foreign car mechanics who say they're junk.
It sounds weird, but compared to some of your older videos, in these newer ones your voice is much more upbeat and confident. Its a small detail but I really think it helps make these videos better. Great work!
How dare you post such a helpful video 😮 guys like you are why I have fixed so much on my vehicles myself!
That is amazing photography! You are getting crystal clear video, with great lighting, of places I can't even see.
man this vid was sooooo helpful today was such a bad day and noe that i found you i can finnaly fix up my car. my wipers didnt work. gas meter broken ran out of gas. and now hood wont open. this video is first step to making my baby brand new. thanks alot you just made my day bright.
Here it is the very first chrisfix video I watched and ever since I watched this video I've been a huge fan thank you so much for giving us tutorials on how to fix stuff on our cars and I hope you get to 10 million as fast as possible
That cable tying was simply superb ingenuity Chris!!!
Thanks a lot!
You obviously can tell the "trolls" are out as anyone who dislikes this video is just that...a troll. This video is a perfect tutorial on how to do this job, especially for X-Type owners. Great job Chris!!!
