OK good.but you didn't show us how to open the bonnet with a stuck or broken cable!!

@@YANDEX30V That's probably because he was explaining the basic mechanics of how it works. the video did not specify what to do if you had a stuck or broken cable. And by the way, it's called a hood.

This video helped me to understand how to fix my hood latch. Latch was not unlocking and cable was good. Knowing about the secondary latch/locked and how it worked allowed me to figure out just what was wrong with my Prius Prime latch lock and how to fix it

Very good job! My major problem in researching this has been that there are too many parts with similar or even identical names that makes asking a specific question about a specific part very hard: too many latches, springs, and rods without very specific names to make clear which latch or spring or catch is being referred too. Without you pointing out the exact part you are referring to, this would be impossible to understand or followup with additional questions.

Mine is stuck closed now. I wish you would have done a video on how to get
that latch open ? Good explanation on how the latch works tho, which is a good
starting point. I have seen videos where guys stick a long screw driver in the thru
the front grill. Maybe I can try that, but not to sure where to put it ?? Like your
presentation style and clear videos.

Any ideas if I'm using a screwdriver to manually trigger the latch, but the hood still won't open?

There is two smaller springs on that latch your missing the bottom one that’s why it’s not shutting or opening. The bottom one holds the tension on the first latch so it doesn’t lose tension

Not sure what you mean but there is a spring on the latch itself, or should I say the latch is spring loaded. If it isn't there, damaged or broken that could be a problem.

ok so what do you do if the cable will not release the lock ? my main latch is in the locked position and the cable has no more travel left in it. my last resort seems to be to cut the grill, remove the bolts holding the latch in place, which in theory should allow the entire hood to open with the latch hanging from the hood .? does that sound right...?

Sounds like it should work, if you don’t mind damaging the grill, or replacing it after.

I have an 02 C240 Benz with a stuck hood. Any advice?
Have to research that one.
My 2001 eclipse won't let me put my fingers underneath to release. it's clamped shut.
Worst case, take it to a mechanic or body shop.
