For a 36 month leased vehicle, any of these would be great! When keeping a purchased vehicle for more than six or seven years, the Toyota RAV4 or Mazda CX5 (not the turbo) are the only two I would choose from this list.

We ordered a new CRV Hybrid, and your review certainly paid a part in it. One factor that we had to take into account was something you couldn't include in your review. The Kia Sportage and Hyundai Tucson were higher on our list, but the hybrid models were (and are) both selling for up to $10K over MSRP. They aren't that much better than the CRV (which we got at MSRP). If you add in that additional money, and the greed/arrogance of the dealers, you might find that the CRV was the best on your list. (Neither of us cared for the RAV4, we found it aesthetically bland, both inside and out). So thanks, you helped us out a lot (plus I got my Audi A5, also partly because of your revies). Good work!
Does Kia teach their salespeople to be arrogant? The one we spoke with was so horrible- wanting 12% over MSRP and extra charges if we bought off the lot bc of “convenience” I was instantly turned off by them and reserved a new Honda instead at MSRP! I did have to get 4 out-the-door quotes to find one who didn’t add unnecessary fees though. But, the Honda salespeople compared to the Kia ones were like day and night. Kia sales guy was telling me how unreliable Honda is and I drive up in my 14 year old CR-V that’s had zero drivetrain issues. I had to replace the motor in my wipers but I live in Seattle-rain city! Otherwise any issue I’ve had had no effect of the safety or ability to drive the car.

Same story for me as well. After 5 unsuccessful negotiations with the Tuscon Hybrid (due to markups and added stuff), I got lucky with a CR-V Hybrid Sport just $600 under MSRP. Although it does not have as many bells and whistles as the Tuscon for the money (ref: MSRP), I bought it for its space, predictable handling and comfort. Dealer was reasonable, so i was happy to oblige. I refuse to pay markup. I'm not that desperate.
I love your reviews; they are down to earth and to the point about features that a common person would be interested in knowing. I especially appreciate the decibels for interior noise. And, the seat comfort and adjustment for both driver and front passenger is very important since many people have back problems. I have noticed that foreign manufacturers aren't as keen as the American brands for back support which is unfortunate.
Rav4 is number one spot in my book, just recently Kia has had some major engine malfunctions and recalls. A coworker of mine had his engine blow up and catch on fire while I was on the phone with him. Toyota has way better reliability than Kia or Hyundai. Yes Kia & Hyundai are the cheaper option but you get what you pay for. Top of all that Kia & Hyundai's are easy to steal and often targeted by thieves.
A Rav4 is also better in the long run. Sure it may lag behind in features and somewhat in engine refinement but what matters in the long run is safely reaching Your destination in time.

Good recap on the compact suv market, sorry my Equinox didn't make the cut,but it's a very very competitive market segment. Your merchandise looks good. 🤔
I would caution most people to always check the reliability ratings of vehicles. Nissan's CVTs are notoriously unreliable. The new Ford Bronco has had numerous recalls. Mitsubishi's reliability goes without saying (okay, I'll say it: it's way below average). Kia is really the only brand putting up consistently high ratings across their new line-up, but there's definitely a shadow looming over Kia/Hyundai now.
My current and previous vehicles are Kia Sorentos (2017 and 2019). I had planned to keep my current one for a while longer until I saw and started reading reviews on the new Kia Sportage Hybrid EX. Now my only goal is to figure out how to afford one. My payment would nearly double unless I put a decent down payment down, so saving that is my next goal. I love that it's your number one choice and I appreciate the review! Lots of good information to make informative decisions.
I wouldn’t focus too hard on monthly payments unless you are living paycheck to paycheck-in that case then looking to upgrade if your current rides are perfectly fine should be the least of your concerns. When shopping around vehicles, you want to focus on getting as close to if not below MSRP as your principle payment. You should pay most attention to this and the gross total payment after interest.
Am a big fan of Kia because of the innovative designs, features, feel and also the price they tag, all models are incredible with great value to your buck. I was worried you might give the first spot to Tucson alone, but hell yeah am really Glaaaaaad you shared the number 1 spot to two prominent contenders/leaders in this segment. If I was looking for a midsize SUV which one would I pick I don't like the RAV4 it because it's small monster got a lot of room but no touch screen Honda CRV might be on my list or either I could get the Nissan Rogue which one would you pick?
The RAV4 does have touchscreens. All vehicles in this compact SUV segment have touchscreens except the Mazda CX-5, and the CX-50 has limited touchscreen functionality.
Great video! Once I noticed that the RAV4 was in second place and the Tucson/Sportage has not been on the list yet, I knew both of these were going to be in the #1 slot. Both of them really deliver surprising features at a low cost, but I would probably go with the Sportage over the Tucson because it has both a better looking exterior and interior.
No one ever addresses the cost to replace the hybrid batteries or mention how costly and labor intensive. I was told today that the cost to replace the Honda Hybrid battery is $5,500 PLUS installation. Cost of installation was not disclosed.
Great job! And thanks for ranking them, instead of alphabetical order or something. But I think you really should follow suit and do the same thing with premium to luxury compact SUVs... But this time, differentiate between regular and hybrid models. Surprisingly, if you did that, I would bet the NX Hybrid would be in the top three!
Just wondering if you have any advice regarding insurance for the Kia and Hyundais? My insurance company won’t even quote me a price right now bc of the theft situations! My daughter is ready to trade in her 2020 Kia sportage and wanted a new one.
I'd take the new Outlander all day everyday especially the new PHEV version, such a good overall package, and the interior is unreal, so good and super quiet.
I love your reviews...but I agree with most other folks in the comments and would NOT have put the Kia Sportage & Hyundai Tuscon at #1. Reliability, security, and comfort all take years to develop. They are not there. I think the Mazda CX-5 and CX-50 are by far the best and much more luxury & premium than everything else listed here. 👍
I used to own a Mazda and think they are highly overrated. I don't get what people mean when they say Mazda's have excellent driving dynamics. I didn't think my CX-9 was any better than the Honda PP that I now own. I test drove a CX-5 and CX-50 yesterday and was totally unimpressed with both vehicles. I think my next vehicle will be some sort of base model because there hasn't been one single car, I've been crazy about in the last twenty years. Everything on the market in all categories (e.g., compact, midsize) seem to be very similar.
Dynamic driving only shows when you constantly drive faster than allowed. Even on small and twitchy roads every modern car behaves pretty well when kept within the speed limit. I own a Tucson for 1 year now and it handles fine. Never needed more direct steering or better suspension. Most car reviewers are racing wannabees anyway.
I never understand the fascination with Mazda either. I rented a CX-9 last summer and it was awful in terms of the interior. It was very cramped because of the monstrous center console and the armrest was hard as a rock. The CX-50 looks pretty nice though on the exterior.
What, no GMC Terrain or Chevy Equinox?? For the price points, upper trim level (especially the Denali) and efficient engines I think this missed the mark.
Thanks for another good video. The ding on the top three (4)? You're basically talking about the hybrid models. All of which are quite hard to come by. Thus they really should be in the 2024 category. :) The gas models are slower than CX-50 and Rogue. CX-50 has power, but lacking cargo space. The Rogue comes under 8 seconds and has the best gas fuel economy in class and adequate cargo space. Outlander is a Compact SUV?
You should list some pros and cons for each in a quick summary. It seemed a little all over the place and ranking a Mitsubishi so high is always questionable when the brand may cease to exist any day now...
The sportage is very nice, but Kias ain’t that economical anymore. Dealers are listing a $1,000 “market adjustment” charge so you’re paying extra for no reason whatsoever. Also, base trim CR-V hybrid sport is actually cheaper than the base trim sportage which lacks SEVERAL features (remote start, push start) that the base CR-V has. Plus, I’d also bet good money the CR-V will hold its value in 3-5 years vs the Kia. It was an obvious choice for me.
@@bluesdemitra38 No, I just can’t imagine buying a vehicle based on what it’s “worth” when you try to get rid of it. Unless you plan on doing a private sale (good luck with that) it’s not going to amount to any significant difference as a trade in regardless. Vehicles of any make aren’t a good investment, as I’m sure you know. I would always just recommend people buy what makes them happy rather than what happens when it’s gone. Life is too short to live like that.
@@Ricky-mo6mv well yes it’s certainly a possibility I’ll buy this car at the end of the lease and in that case the Honda name and reputation will yield a greater return if I sell down the line. And like I said, Kias are no longer the economical option with dealers jacking up prices for no reason besides demand. Paying for hype ain’t smart!
@@bluesdemitra38 Yeah. KIA sales departments suck the big one, but they do have amazing looking vehicles. I will say the service department was spectacular though. I actually had a KIA Seltos lease from back in 2021- it was to be 4 years. After hearing about people trading in leases early, or selling their vehicles in these times for increased value, I decided to see what Hyundai would do for me this past July in buying out my lease. The value of my Seltos went up from what it should have been, so I made out really well at Hyundai on the last day of the month. With the equity in my Seltos, they marked down my $40,000 Tucson Limited to about $33,00 and I didn’t need a down payment. The Seltos SX was rock solid, and I was only going to part with it for a huge deal. I wanted the Tucson mainly for the extra room in the back seat, and I fell in love with the exterior and interior of the Tucson. So far so good! I’m just giving you sh*t. Out of the compact SUV competition, I do like the current CR-V, as they have come a long way in the design/looks department. I bet that sport trim looks nice with the blacked out wheels!
Reliability doesn’t mean much if you aren’t in love with what you are purchasing. Meanwhile you would be admiring everyone else’s vehicle on the road that is more eye catching. Aesthetics and tech do matter.
I love your videos guys, it's always helpful, but you were considering only the value and space, which is not the only thing people in real life look at, they look at reliability and resale value, and if you put these 2 things into consideration, your 10 list would be changed or at least re-arranged
@@BrandonD Meanwhile both of their sales are declining each year. Hyundai tucson is doing great in sales and KIA sportage is starting to catch up as well.
Car reviewers and journalists do not really incorporate reliability or resale into their reviews. That’s basically always been a standard thing. If you want to look that up, there are other videos that have different missions.
THIS! Most car reviewers don't talk about reliability and hyundai/kia have so much safety concerns now. Like you couldn't pay me to drive one. I personally know 3 people that have failed engines with less than 50k miles on them. Definitely not okay. We just got a 2023 crv and it has everything I could want on it and I didn't have to pay 8k in markup (like hyundai/kia in my area). The pano sunroof does nothing for me as well as the 360 camera and that's pretty much all it doesn't have, we'll besides a heated stearing wheel, but we can put one in with no big deal. The only reason I didn't go with the rav was I hate the interior and I feel like everyone drives one, so I wanted something different. Honda has never let me down.
People are sold on flash not quality.... Most people are want want want and only think short term. NOBODY WILL EVER ADMIT THEY MADE A WRONG DECISION SO THEY KEEP JUSTIFYING THEIR CRAP CHOICES

Also saying that rav4 is more reliable is totally fake and bs again check the recalls and destroyed engines of rav4 you re uninformed and a liar.
I don't know if I agree with this list a dependability is questionable on a lot of these models, I would do research on each of them before purchasing, maybe leasing them is an option first, especially considering long term ownership. I would on the other hand would never buy a Tiguan because that 2.0 liter is infamous for blowing head gaskets and burning oil at low mileage, and this is not just reserved to the Tiguan, it's on all Audi/VW vehicles. I would also never buy a Mitsubishi or Nissan because the Jatco CVT transmissions are garbage if they are not taken care of and they could go out as low as 60,000 miles.
I love the look of the mazda's sun's. Especially that gorgeous red when the sunlight hits that red it catches my eye every time I'm near one. That said that Kia interior is really nice. I like the screen. I'm not familiar with them so I'd have to research how they're user interface is and if they've fixed that theft problem (if I'm thinking of the same company)
So Mazda CX models don't have panaromic roof and no touch screen informatics system. I'm sure it might be missing much more features. So it is good only for power
When you guys talk about space for people, how about giving us an idea of how big YOU are so we can better visualize. If you are 5'7" that will make the space look great, some of us are 6'2" or more and have a difficult time finding a vehicle that does not cramp us.
If you watch the Full Reviews that correspond to each of these crossovers, that is discussed and visualized I believe in the way you want to see it. 5'8" and 5'9", by the way.
Mazda CX-5 should be higher then CRV it is better at everything except fuel efficiency. And maybe you should put in your rankings reliability KIA and Hyundai does not have the reliability

This is too funny. I started looking for a new vehicle and just yesterday I visited a Kia dealership. I didn't make a purchase, but I learned more about what I want. Obviously it is going to be a Kia, but I made room for one more choice and that was the Hyundai. As you were doing the countdown I was hoping to hear the name of at least one of my two choices. I love the looks on the Hyundai Tucson & the Kia Sportage, but I’ve been seeing a lot of negative stuff lately about the reliability of their engines, and the quality of their service (i.e., not honoring their warranty), that it’s enough to give me pause. Considering this, I’d probably go with any of the others mentioned in this list first.
You've seen that on the internet because they want you to buy their toyotas. Toyotas have too many issues and lawsuits that the fake news media hasn't cover them.

I hate compact SUVs. I’ve got the fattest cakes in the game and I need lots of space to shake it. My booty cheeks need at least a mid size to feel comfortable.
Looked like a 2023. I believe they were using a Limited Hybrid. According to images on Toyota's website, the 2022 has a hybrid badge just in front of the driver side mirror, the 2023 does not - the one in the video did not have it.
@@rogerluli I don’t know anyone that would even want to have the same vehicle for more than 150,000 miles. By then, vehicles are outdated and most people would be looking for something relevant to the times.

I had to have a $3500 valve job done on my CRV at 90,000. So, that wasn't cool. I bought a Honda to avoid stuff like that. 🙄 Didn't work out. But other than that it's been super reliable.

Just wondering if you have any advice regarding insurance for the Kia and Hyundais? My insurance company won’t even quote me a price right now bc of the theft situations! My daughter is ready to trade in her 2020 Kia sportage and wanted a new one.
Toyota RAV4 should be at 6th for hybrid system shutdown and bad transmission. It should be below Honda CR-V

@@SeekrofTruth25screen is just right because you don't have to touch the screen the wheel on the gear area you rotate to .do it.
@SeekrofTruth25 this is subjective, but you don't need a touch screen and having big screens are counter intuitive to driving.
Just drove home the 2023 Tucson SEL Convenience pkg. I love my new car!!
Outstanding video guys! Glad to have you there critiquing these vehicles! Very helpful!!
Thanks, glad it was helpful!
I'd take the new Outlander all day everyday especially the new PHEV version, such a good overall package, and the interior is unreal, so good and super quiet.
Great review. Personally just can’t justify the loss of reliability with Hyundai/Kia and the styling is so funky with both.
Hyundai and Kia is not reliable anyway, Japanese cars are
Thanks!
Agree both ugly cars crv best looking
i ordered a 2023 jeep compass, its got a new 2.0l turbo engine with a new 8spd 4x4 trans
Cool! Does it have more horsepower and torque?
Yes, 2023 has 23 more horses and 49 more lb-ft of torque compared to 2022.
It's interesting to see that so many reviewers are putting Tucson and Sportage on their top list. I will definitely consider one some day.
You haven’t driven them. But you seem to know about comfort? Funny fool.
Those are both piles of crap
No offense, but those are both absolutely horrendous.
A vehicle is NOT an investment. Factoring in what a vehicle will be worth in 3-5 years into the decision making process is absurd.
@@Ricky-mo6mv you saying cars hold the same value regardless of maker?
Reliability means more than all the features. Love my Honda!
You are absolutely RIGHT
Reliability doesn’t mean much if you aren’t in love with what you are purchasing.
Reliability and resell value is everything for 86% of Americans. This is why you buy a Honda or Toyota suv in America
@@BrandonD Meanwhile both of their sales are declining each year. Hyundai tucson is doing great in sales and KIA sportage is starting to catch up as well.
@@MrSupernova111 Toyota fanboy hurt. LMAO
@@maga6319 like anything in life you get what you pay for and inflation is real. I’d rather pay more and avoid the dealership with warranty issues😅.
Car reviewers and journalists do not really incorporate reliability or resale into their reviews. That’s basically always been a standard thing. If you want to look that up, there are other videos that have different missions.
Hyundai and Kia’s somehow aren’t best as I have seen engines burning on highways and tons of recalls…although somehow people still buy them 😅
Already numerous recalls on latest Kia Sportage. Just buy a Toyota or Honda.

Yep the Nissan CVT transmissions are garbage, mine was taken care of and still went out at 62,000 miles!
If driving excitement is important. I would say #1 mazda cx5 or cx50 followed by the Tiguan.
The rogue is a great rental. Wouldn't buy it though since it's terribly slow with that cvt and 3 cylinders.
I love the look of the mazda's sun's. Especially that gorgeous red when the sunlight hits that red it catches my eye every time I'm near one. That said that Kia interior is really nice. Nice video!
So Mazda CX models don't have panaromic roof and no touch screen informatics system. I'm sure it might be missing much more features. So it is good only for power

Why do you think Tucson is so much better than Rogue?
