I developed my tinnitus one night laying in bed around three months ago. I have seen the ENT doctor multiple times; blood pressure is okay, taken meds which don't work, had AMSA sessions which don't work. Doctors says no wax blockage, pressure (although I feel it) or blocked fluid. I can't see what other avenue I can go down. Having said that, reading the message and seeing the video did make me feel like I am not alone. Best wishes to all of you.

Ive had tinnitus caused by unprotected exposure to industrial and mining machinery for approximately 45 years.
It is very pleasing to view your very informative and caring presentation about a common affliction that was not generally recognised or really taken seriously in the past by many heath care workers for the delertirious effects it can have on individual sufferers.
On a personal level I recognised long ago that there is no complete cure for tinnitus and applied my usual general philosophy of - "if after examination of the facts I cannot change things for the better or do anything about it then I'll just have to accept and live with it ".
Consequently I just trained myself not to think about it. Its always there in the background. The high pitched scream of jet engines with an undertone of a heavy diesel engine under load at high revs.
I first noticed it when I read the title to the video that came up on u tube and its increasing in volume as I write this.
I almost never think about it now and it only usually appears when its brought to my attention in one form or another.
The factors such as stress and different foods do play a part but its thinking and becoming conscious of tinnitus can make it an interference for me.
So I just find some form of mental distraction and put it out of my mind. Its not easy at times such as now but over time you can relegate it to a place of very low sigificance in your life by accepting its permanence whilst ignoring its precence.
Easier said than done but given time it works. Hope it helps.
Now I'll just have to stop watching videos about tinnitus!

Yes, STRESS is a major culprit in perception of tinnitus more loudly. I developed bilateral tinnitus a year ago at the age of 55. it is fluctuating with almost a fixed pattern, one day or two is high or very high, the following day or days low or even zero. Over and over again, the same pattern! ... I was told to avoid caffeine (classic tea & coffee), and salt, but I learned quitting those things made my tinnitus worse, because my brain interprets it as a stress. I learned all kind of stress have a negative effect on severity of my tinnitus (not necessarily always immediately, but sometimes a few days later), so I'm trying to avoid worries by taking the life as much easy as possible.

@@LevaniAslamazishvili-bz8gm Yes, I do have bilateral mild hearing loss with hyperacusis. I didn't know I had hearing loss until I got an audiogram. Recently I learned to use some sounds to mask my tinnitus (RUclips is one of the best sources of different types of sounds made for tinnitus sufferers. Here is one of the best just as an example: www.youtube.com/@dalesnale). The best tone for me is around 10KH, I think this is the same frequency as my hearing loss because it completely masks my tinnitus and sometimes even helps diminish the severity of tinnitus the next day while I'm outside. So far, managing daily life stress and sound therapy have been the best solutions to cope with tinnitus properly.

I haven't been able to hear out of my right ear I was wearing very good hearing aid in until five years ago when my earring went totally. I had my old tinnitus in both ears. Started wearing the hearing aid in my left ear it stopped but I still had it in my right ear. Then 4 years ago I lost all the rest admiring I was devastated my whole life changed. I now have to figure out how I was going to communicate with my family because I knew no sign language. About a week after that the buzzing in my ears again. I went to a ENT. The doctor tried a steroid shot in my eardrum hoping that it would come I went back a week later nothing had changed. That's when he referred me to the calculator implant doctor at UVA. So in May of 2019 I had my first cochlear implant surgery why not right ear, which by then I had been deaf in that ear for 6 years. I began to pray and believe that I would hear normal when they turned it on. So in June of the same year, they activated it. I was blessed because I heard normal voices and the ringing in that ear had stopped. In June of 2020, I had my 2nd calculator implant surgery and it was activated in July of the same year. This one I am still working with to get the noise and the voice is more normal. Far far from being there and it does get aggravating but in the long run it until the ringing started getting so loud then I can't hear anything but the ringing. We have tried everything under the sun and still to this day I cannot get it to stop it is triggering headaches anxiety is through the roof!!! If anyone could give any advice find out you just quiet it down I would greatly appreciate it!!! I don't even want to be around anyone. When I am around people they constantly complain that I'm hollering. I don't feel like I have to over talk this ringing. PLEASE HELP!!! I just want my life back!!!

Stress is a definite contributor to tinnitus. I have sensitivity in my left ear with some high frequency hearing loss as well in same ear. I went to a concert in early June, and came out of it with tinnitus. I figured it would only last a few days, but it went on for 3 months. It DID start to go away near the end of August, but then I got covid. That's when it came back worse than before. My doctor has me booked for an MRI to see if there are any underlaying conditions. My BP is generally around 130/80 and I'm 62 years old, so that's no much of a factor. (It's usually around 125/75, but my tinnitus has my stress and anxiety levels up). I'm looking into CBT and relaxation technics to help me cope. Your videos are very good and helpful! Thank you!

You are the first person to mention a slap on the ear. I believe that caused mine too. From an early age I was subjected to frequent hard slaps on the ear from my mother; occasionally hard enough to knock me off my feet. I was about ten years old when I discovered that not everyone heard a constant loud hissing all the time. So I've had it for over 70 years and it's getting worse. I also have very bad neck tension; I've had that since childhood too.

    • @miriamweller812
      @miriamweller812 Год назад +2

Mine clearly seems coming from tension, since I can toy around with it with that.
When I tense my neck muscles or anyhting around the head, the tinnitus goes up immmensely, sometimes stay a bit stronger and highter, while slowly fading.
When I rub the sides of my ears to warm them up, this will give at least short term relief and so on.
Overall this of course goes along with stress, as some of my other symtpomes, including hurting teeth and pain in the neck and shoulders, as a doctor explained me once: those muscles from your back, crossing your neck up to your ears(!) are those which react very strong to stress.

I totally disagree and I think that you've been seeing really bad doctors. The main reason I went to an ENT doctor was because of the tinnitus and that was the best thing that I ever did. The ENT practice that I go to is completely amazing and they have amazing doctors and there's also an audiologist in the back portion of the office. I only have tinnitus in one of my ears and I'm losing hearing. I was sent for an MRI and it turned out I have a tumor in my brain called an acoustic neuroma that right now is under observation because it's small. But it's also giving me a lot of other symptoms. I'm really glad that I went to the ENT doctor and I highly recommend this doctor. I don't watch TV as my wife can hear a fly fart, which results in the volume on the TV being too low for me! I am in my 70s now and a carer for my wife, so I am on the go all day/every day! I have gave up hope in finding a cure, as there isn't one! Yet maybe once every two months the tinnitus stops for a day or two - My wife can tell when I haven't got ringing in my ears, so obviously I am a jackal and Hine!

I found that first reducing, then eliminating carbohydrates has made a spectacular and decisive difference to my tinnitus. On a scale of 1 - 10, my tinnitus rarely went below a 6; after removing carbs from my diet, I average a 2 - 4. Stress is a factor, as is ear wax; but I can't find a doctor or audiologist anywhere that will do anything about the build-up; in spite of using wax-softening measures, everyone refuses to syringe or suction my ears for fear of exacerbating the problem! Stress, I can work with. Carbs aren't a problem. But ear wax? That's a bloody nuisance!

I am 50, I'm a long term tinnitus sufferer of 25 years. in 2 weeks I am about to undergo my 3rd round of Tympanoplasty following chronic cholesteatoma that was missed for 20 years... Maybe obvious to some, but Viagra and its copies, magnify tinnitus to an overwhelming level. There is definitely a pay-off but the noise can be a little bit too consuming. So my advice is, if you are not 'on top' of your tinnitus avoid ED medicines.

I have had tinnitus for at least 25 years, not sure where I got it from. I went through hell sleeping for about 5 of those years until I found a weird way of stopping it temporarily. I used to pour "cold" water into my right ear, the ear I had tinnitus in and it would stop the noise. Pouring water in your ear probably isn't great but I did this every night for 3 years until I started using a loud fan every night. Now I use sleeping apps on my phone, I listen to the sound of wind, storms and rain. Technology has saved me from torment that's for sure.

Interesting you say that pulsatile tinnitus could be something more serious and should be checked out urgently. After waiting 18 months for an ENT appointment at my local hospital (mainly a referral for viral labyrinthitis brought on by Covid), I mentioned my pulsatile tinnitus to the consultant and asked if it was a sign of a more serious underlying condition. He said it was quite common and nothing to worry about. I felt relatively relieved at the time, although I did wonder if he was just fobbing me off. I've had normal tinnitus on and off since as far as I can remember (in my 20s, and I'm now in my 60s) - the usual ringing, buzzing, humming - but I just learned to live with it so it's never really bothered me. Since I got Covid in 2020 though it has gotten a lot louder and more varied. The pulsatile tinnitus pre-dates Covid but that's definitely worsened too. Covid is the virus that keeps on giving. Think I might get a second opinion on the pulsatile tinnitus. Might have to go private though as I don't fancy waiting another 18 months for an appointment. So much for our NHS.

    • @azorpico

I have also pulsatile tinnitus, one of the reason can be contact from the 8nerve (we have 12 nerves in our brain) with one of our enlarged blood vessels. The 8th nerve is in contact with our ear and how we can hear. Have had several MRI scans which indicated enlarged blood vessels by MRI scan. If one of those enlarged blood vessels is in contact with the 8th nerve it can cause pulsatile tinnitus. Of course every situation is personal. So to find out cause of pulsatile tinnitus is an MRI or CT scan from the head needed. There have been solutions by operation where a piece of medical teflon sheet was used and placed between the 8th nerve and the enlarged contacting blood vessel. As the contact was gone between the 8th nerve and the enlarged blood vessel, so was the tinnitus. Unfortunately there a not many specialists who have experience with this type of operation, when tinnitus can be cured in this way.

It's never easy, but for sure, obsessing about it, is probably one of the worst culprits in that self-perpetuating cycle. Thank you for a great video...

I have seen both an MD and audiologist. My tinnitus is mainly in the left ear. The MD said that the tinnitus is a result of a lifelong experience of left temple migraine headaches. I do not get the pounding pain anymore, but the tinnitus can be overwhelming. The MD said that there is new research being published exploring the correlation between migraine and tinnitus:the headache will not occur, but the tinnitus will ( I think of it in the same way an amputee will feel the amputated limb though it is nit there). I view the tinnitus as a manifestation of a painless migraine.

About 20 yrs ago I was then in my 50s I was walking to the grocery store when I realized there was a ringing in my ears.
When I came home I thougt it would leave me as fast as I experienced it happening.
Never happened. I still have it to this day.
I never seemed professional advice from any Dr..
I researched it in my own & came to conclusion this is what I had to live with.
A relative if my husband said that her sister also had it & when she went check it out with her Dr. he told her there was nothing that could be done medically for her.
So now I guess it saved me a lot of unnecessary costs to seek medical advice to no avail.
Most times it us not as annoying but lying still it becomes very annoying.
I understand there are some capsules or pills in the market today. I will try tem & see or rather hear lol

we should address the underlying main issue here in the gut problems..
my tinnitus flares up when im bloated or i consume too much sweets and salty stuff..
when ur gut is iflammed it sends stress signal to ur brain and thats when the ringing flares up..
im not a doctor im just basing this in my very own experience..

Ive had tinnitus for 5 years in both ears due to ear infection and noise exposure and my advice is don't let it get worse with the biggest offender being ototoxic medication which in my three experiences has made my tinnitus sharper, louder and rawer/ more piercing and, although after 2 - 3 months it subsided to a base/ manageable level, each time it failed to settle back down to what it was before taking the medication.
Second offender is sudden sharp loud noises which I have had quite a few of but never lasting damage/ always settled back down to what it was previously after 2 - 3 weeks, sometimes its only lasted hours then settled back down (I carry foam ear plugs to go out and if I'm going somewhere I suspect could be loud I also take ear defenders).
Second bit of advice is make sure that you don't have wax in your ears or near or on you eardrum as in my experience multiple times after getting wax out my tinnitus has become almost inaudible (wax removed via an ENT using manual extraction as apparently microsuction is too loud near the eardrum which can aggravate tinnitus). As well using distilled water ear drops put in a glass pipette bottle helps to remove ear wax.
I have experienced severe tinnitus in both ears for extended periods but as for my tinnitus now my left ear is pretty inaudible its only when I lay on the pillow is when it becomes louder and bothersome but I can sleep through it, however my right ear is mild/ moderate and when I lay on the pillow it becomes quite severe, although I can still sleep through it depending on how tired I am (I sleep with 9000Hz white noise and a fan).
The best way I can describe the tinnitus in my right ear when not laying down is by using audionotch's tuner on 9550Hz at 1% volume and computer volume at 24 although the tinnitus doesn't sound quite like that and its not as pronounced as the pure tone/ the tinnitus has more of a dispersed effect.

Unfortunately, tinnitus returned back in about ten days. The sensations I enjoyed having no buzzing for a few days, were way beyond compare. Sometimes very loudly… but other times on a scale of 1-10 only a 3-4… then a 5-6.. then a 2…. At night it seems to get louder. I am so tied of living like this. It started in August if 2022 then I passed out from low potassium, broke my ankle.. I don’t recall hitting my head at all but am not 100% certain. The tinnitus started about a week later and has not stopped. I pray it goes away but am afraid it never will. MRI says they don't have anything wrong with them, so guess they don't hurt, but THEY DO HURT!! Here is my list of complications with my hearing: 24/7 buzzing (my crickets) which I have had for over 8 years, recently I have a new sound along with the buzzing which is clicking. The clicking is not as constant, but seems to be getting there. Both ears burn, both ears feel like a river is running through them. Very much worse if I have a pain anywhere in my body or if I am stressed or tired or when things are quite. So when I say mine hurt bad, I mean I literally can not hear myself think.
