The Bike Show Actually yes I have, and I own new bikes (one too many!) why I love old school is midrange grunt, its there where you need it in real life, not a race track and your comparing to 180hp 1300cc b king Obviously not questioning Seller's ability!
The Bike Show It's true that newer bikes are far better performing, but they aren't half as fun as those things are :D That's why the prices of these old things are going up and mint ones can go as much as a decent conditioned modern bike...

i HAD ONE i BOUGHT BRAND NEW AND PUT ON THE RACE TRACK TOOK ON HOLIDAY AND WEEKEND BLASTS GREAT BIKE UNTIL i BOUGHT A fIREBLADE WHICH THOUGH REALLY DOWN ON POWER WAS SO MUCH FASTER AND 6 GEARS RACING THE exup WITH A 5 SPEED BOX ALWAYS WAS DIFFICULT. Irode one 20 years later and it felt like a big wobbly bus this was purely down to worn out suspension and even when new it was not the best. new rear shock and rebuilt forks will transform it. Awesome grunt in any gear a fantastic bike.
Cycle world named the 1990 FZR 1000 the bike of the decade in 1990 and it will still old it's own with today's bike a money can buy you and nice bike but can't buy you balls
Also, this bike is an 89/90 model, why is he comparing it to a Fireblade? that bike was still years away. They also claim 231kg dry weight? the dry weight for this model was 209kg, with a full tank and all fluids they are 235 kg.
@@uhtred7860, even today, some of the best stop distances recorded-and he said they are bad{It scored better than the cbr900 and the gsx}-are still the fastest of its era: 0-100 and 1/4 mile.
That host had no idea what he was talking about lol, the exup stayed closed at lower rpm and opened up as the revs climbed to smooth out the torque curve and give more down low, I rode my bike without the exup in and it had nothing up to about 5000rpm and then would suddenly blast into a wheelie in 1st and 2nd, with the exup in the power (i,e the torque curve) started much earlier and didn't creep up on me like it did.
Had an R1 and FZR 1000 at the same time. I really liked the FZR, it was a 93 model that I bought at a bargain. Mine never smoked, never leaked, I had it for a few years and it was a joy to ride huge torque down low and its still fast but on the really tight corners you have to work harder! People forget that the FZR was a 10 to mid 10 second motorcycle on the quarter mile. Putting it to the test on a race track seems pointless. When I used my FZR on the road here in NZ back in 2006 me and my 5 riding buddies would go on long rides which had long straights and super twisty corners. The FZR was always in 2nd place on the straight behind a green 04 ZX10r and behind me was a yamaha R6, he could not quite catch me on the straights because my out right acceleration at the beginning of a straight was so much stronger. The other two were a zx7rr and a vtr1000 firestorm. On the corners it was the Firestorm in 1st place and behind him was me on my old FZR1000. People would argue that the ZX10R or R6 should be first in the corners but this is the real world folks. And I was right up the firestorms tail all through those corners as well.
Isn't this a Uk 89 model? 4 yrs before the Fireblade arrived! The EXup RU then released in 91 with a new frame & styling... Just seems a bit rude to suggest that the origional Exup Genisis was pointless.
Thats an 89-90 model, i don't know why he's going on about "92" and Fireblades, the Blade was still 3 years away when this model was new. This was the Boss in 89/90. 91-92 FZR1000s came with a single headlight upside down forks, slightly different frame and fairing panels. 93, they went back to duel lights with the "Fox eye" headlights.
I don't know, I hope they tune the suspension (if that model was adjustable) before they race it, I own a thunderace and after tuning the suspension properly it feels like a new bike.
These were bikes for men, you had to accept that riding a superbike back then was a challenge, it was even worse in the 80's when you had twin shock bikes weaving across two lanes of motorway at 125mph!
I've got one of those bikes Billet clutch basket, Wiseco 1070 piston kit, Vance & Hines power pack, Accel super coils, Yoshimura pipe stage 3 jet kit ,port and Polished head and puts well over 150 horsepower she might be old and dated but she'll hang right with anything that's out there honest I really wouldn't want a new bike anyway kind of like that new ZX-14 but I just look at the price of these new leader bikes I can just keep dumping money in my old girl and she'll just keep getting better and better I just picked up some 38 mm can flat slides off an 88 fzr 1000 yeah they're the same size as my carbs but they're flat slides race carbs they even said stamped on them race only. Also want to install a set of undercut 6-speed gears off a YZF 750 in it. Maybe have the stock cams sent out to be played with I don't think the 900RR was was that far ahead of the fzr 1000 when it came out horsepower to horsepower the fzr had more the same yarn just had a little better power to weight ratio but if you put a modded fzr against the stock 900 RR it was right there
weren't the UK Yamaha FZR's power restricted ? Unrestricted models were good for a low 10 second 1/4 mile, which is as quick (in a straight line) as a 98 R1!
I just picked up a 97 YZF 750 and I already have a 91 fzr 1000 motor in the shed Im thinking of doing a clone of my 90 fzr engine and shoe horn it into the yzf 750. Wiseco doesn't make that 1070 kit anymore somebody else makes it and they're asking $1,000 for the kit now I'm thinking about having somebody make me a set of Pistons using one of my Wiseco Pistons out of my 90 and I'm thinking about going low compression and making the motor a turbo. It's all Fantasyland but it's cheaper than buying a brand new liter bike
this is the problem! this young gay can´t drive a bike from the end of the 80-90 fast! bikes from this aera needs a hard hand and a lot off force to drive @ max angel! russell lee wood would drive circle around this gay!!! this type of bike needs a driver that will do a max in a corner! new models drive from allone eazy quick corners!
Brakes on this era Yamaha were notoriously shit unless regularly maintained. As someone pointed out on here, banjo bolts have corrosion. Which would tell you much about the overall condition of the bike

The blue spots on the R1 are slightly different to the Thunderace ones, theres enough changes to warrant completely different part numbers, the mounting holes are the same distance apart so either one can be retro fit to early FZRs.
I owned a 1993 FZR 1000 with 145hp and it was CRAP! They say you shouldn't meet your heroes and that is so true. Yes, it was the best Superbike in its period, but come on! It's heavy as hell, the exup-system is extremely vulnerable and the brakes are just horrible. I owned several bikes, that were built between 1980 and 2015 and the FZR was the first one I truly regretted buying.
Ha ha ha ha this really is a great channel, don't treat your clutch like that boy. Feel it. If you ride well that is a sharp steady performer that should go like HELL. My 750 does and I fancy my chances against you on this track. The only thing I've seen this guy thrash is the engine and probably crosses the finish on cold tyres. Interesting films though.
I hate when older bikes and cars are run like this and you know they weren't sorted prior. If you're going to "test" an older bike or car give it a going over and proper maintence. I'm willing to bet if this bike were sorted properly it would shit on a B-King around a racetrack.
if you have a hard hand an no fear the fzr goes a 1:32 also! a bike from the 90 is noch so eazy to drive! but if you can drive, the fzr its a beast@ highspeed Corners! in germany i ride the fzr with 260km/h/ 162,6 mp/h from the a61 over the e42 to the a60! www.google.de/maps/@49.9330444,7.9395427,1003m/data=!3m1!1e3 the fzr goes @12000rpm eazy 186mp/h -- 297km/h on the speedometer
you obviously never bothered to read up on this bike did you? firstly how do you compare a Genesis to a B-king which has obviously got TWO decades of advanced technology? Second is WHY do you put this bike on the show if all you going to do is degrade the bike? 20 years is a little late to want to point out flaws on a motorcycle that is not exactly flooding the markets on popular demand. Clinton if you going to test these bikes learn to ride properly, your start and riding style was horrendous.
in german the 90 model has 98ps and a max hp 135! the 89 and 90 models are still the 2lf/2le models whit full open 135hp. i have a 90 model (2lf) and a 92 model (3le) the 90 2lf have no exup!!! i thing the 90 models in Europe are the 2le/lf ones whit 135hp!@ 91 the exup versions cam to germany!
Interesting. I've never heard of the fact that 2LF was delivered to Germany in 1989/90. Officially, the series "2" ended in 1988. After (1989-1995) it went a series of "3" with the EXUP and 145 hp. I have 91 model (3LE from Germany) with EXUP 145 hp.
Wish I had not bothered watching this pathetic reflection on what was once the Top Dog & is still a very naughty bike on the roads. Forks, brakes, suspension, wheels & therefore tyres, can all be upgraded to give a superb motorcycle for "relatively" low cost & when one can vastly exceeding your country's speed limits on older machines, why pay a fortune for a hypersports bike unless using the expense on track?
Even stock suspension and brakes are fine is kept in good order on 80s/90s machines, especially on the road at sane-ish speeds. I upgraded my 86 GSX-R1100s suspension when i restored it last year, it got a brand new YSS rear shock, YSS valve emulators and springs in the original forks, (both front and rear were matched to my weight) the original calipers got a full strip with new seals throughout, a couple of the pistons were replaced, they were then re painted and good sintered pads put in, and braided lines put on. It stops and handles better than it did when new, which is fine for the road and the odd track day. My 87 FZR1000 which is getting a full restoration now will get a similar set up.
Whoever gave what to say to the commentator was an idiot... the tested bike is not a 1992, it must be a 1990 or older, just take a look at the fairing and at the front fork. Yamaha gave the 1991 and newers an inverted fork and a single headlight.
But it was a 750. Not a litre sports bike. The gsxr750 handled better too. I know what you mean about the zxr tho it was a proper race bike on the road at the time.

@@ajc5370 If you need to do more than 170mph with the associated acceleration then there is something wrong with you lol ,in short I agree with your last comment .Looks like I'm back yet again to this video.
stop talking shit, dont talk about bikes when you dont know!
Slow to rev , my old fzr 1000 will bully modern bikes and its comfortable!
Oh dear, ridden ALL the new stuff over the last 20 years, and raced them as we have? I didn't think so. Your old bike, unless fitted with warp drive, is not, in any way, comparable with today's stuff. Sorry, that's just a fact me old chum, however unpalatable that might be.
The Bike Show Actually yes I have, and I own new bikes (one too many!) why I love old school is midrange grunt, its there where you need it in real life, not a race track and your comparing to 180hp 1300cc b king
Obviously not questioning Seller's ability!
The Bike Show It's true that newer bikes are far better performing, but they aren't half as fun as those things are :D That's why the prices of these old things are going up and mint ones can go as much as a decent conditioned modern bike...
Like all testers they are full off crap he was still a baby in arms when that bike was produced and it probably ain’t got a German badge on it they were the bike in there day and still are with the right rider on it (not one of our up their own ass modern so called bike testers)
@@IgnitionBikeShow while the first blade was indeed lighter and better handling it wasn't as quick in a straight line as an exup and if it on a traditional bumpy poor surfaced UK back road the blade always felt less stable than a well maintained exup did .
i have a 1992 fzr 1000 exup great powerfull bike and still is..:)
FZR 1000 exup is a solid reliable superbike 🏍️👍.
I owned one of these for 9 yrs from 21 yrs old ,best bike I had could do a set of tyres a month though
i HAD ONE i BOUGHT BRAND NEW AND PUT ON THE RACE TRACK TOOK ON HOLIDAY AND WEEKEND BLASTS GREAT BIKE UNTIL i BOUGHT A fIREBLADE WHICH THOUGH REALLY DOWN ON POWER WAS SO MUCH FASTER AND 6 GEARS RACING THE exup WITH A 5 SPEED BOX ALWAYS WAS DIFFICULT.
What a beautiful machine, I remember seeing that massive frame and swing arm, but am a Kawasaki man purchased the mighty ZX-11.
The good old days had the FZR750RR what a machine, then this baby came out I just drop this 1000 engine in her, it was what Yamaha should of done.
Loved my Fzr1000♥️
Getting one this week
i got r1 forks and brake calipers on my 90 fzr1000 along with raised bars. lovely comfy bike with enough power for most riders even in 2020.
He's making the exup out to be crap, it isn't- it's a great superbike.
Dam , I miss that bike 😥
That host had no idea what he was talking about lol, the exup stayed closed at lower rpm and opened up as the revs climbed to smooth out the torque curve and give more down low, I rode my bike without the exup in and it had nothing up to about 5000rpm and then would suddenly blast into a wheelie in 1st and 2nd, with the exup in the power (i,e the torque curve) started much earlier and didn't creep up on me like it did.
This is absolutely awesome!!!!!! Been looking for something like this for ages, more old birds please! He seems to lean it quite good btw.
And I was right up the firestorms tail all through those corners as well.
i wana watch the whole episode
Isn't this a Uk 89 model? 4 yrs before the Fireblade arrived! The EXup RU then released in 91 with a new frame & styling... Just seems a bit rude to suggest that the origional Exup Genisis was pointless.
When the patent ran out on the EXUP valve after 10 years, every Japanese factory adapted it. They worked.
I have a 97' Yzf1000 it's amazing glad I went with it instead of an R1 most awesome funest bike I've ever ridin =)
Ive go a 1990.....love it....
Superlativo
I have a 91. They stopped selling the double round headlight ones here in the 80's
Best bike forever
to 97 the cbr fireblade was top dog bat, then in 98 the R1 was released!! and next it was history^^
True, not the original Exup marked... pity.
The rest of the bike is in very good conditions.
These were bikes for men, you had to accept that riding a superbike back then was a challenge, it was even worse in the 80's when you had twin shock bikes weaving across two lanes of motorway at 125mph!
my first bike. nice one
I like the look of retro bikes with their big round headlights and blocky designs. How much can I buy an FZR-EXUP for these days?
2 grand ish
If you can find one… #unobtainium
In cheste they use it for making great bangs and noise
Πολυ θα ηθελες να υπαρχουν τοσο καλα μηχανακια στις αλλες εταιριες!!!
I was hoping to hear the bike...
The new stuff my be a lot faster but it is bland. But each to there own 🤔.
The B-King would lose the match if the FZR was equipped with new clutch and original exhaust, to say the least
Yeah but the restriction was comically easy to remove and you'd be hard pushed to find one that was still restricted these days.
I love my 94 fzr 1000 !!!!
That host had no idea what he was talking about lol
I just love this bike 4ever
Clinton Seller needs to learn how to launch a bike properly.
this is the problem! this young gay can´t drive a bike from the end of the 80-90 fast! bikes from this aera needs a hard hand and a lot off force to drive @ max angel! russell lee wood would drive circle around this gay!!! this type of bike needs a driver that will do a max in a corner! new models drive from allone eazy quick corners!
I have the same OK it s old but but in 400 mètre you can take a hayabusa 1300 you can watch video on you tube
FZR 1000 vs hayabusa
Brakes on this era Yamaha were notoriously shit unless regularly maintained. As someone pointed out on here, banjo bolts have corrosion. Which would tell you much about the overall condition of the bike
after 30 years its about time to buy a set of calipers anyways so its not really an issue. lots of wrecked bikes sell pars for nothing
@@joekillthebeat "Blue Spot" (or gold spot) Sumitomo calipers off a R1 (98-03) bolt straight on, anyone thinking of doing it remember to use the matching master cylinder as well. 🙂
@@uhtred7860 Blue spot calipers were on the successor to the FZR i.e. the Thunderace and then the R1, I've had all three
@@originalshadowfax Nice, I love 5 valve Yamahas, I have a mint 01 R1 that ive owned since new, and are half way thru restoring my 87 FZR1000.
He lost 2 seconds at the start.

This bike appears to need a lot of service. Sounds rough and the suspension is loose.
Yello, It's stupendous foregoing versed 11
No - the Fireblade did not make this obsolete.
I had 3 of those 😊
I hate when older bikes and cars are run like this and you know they weren't sorted prior. If you're going to "test" an older bike or car give it a going over and proper maintence. I'm willing to bet if this bike were sorted properly it would shit on a B-King around a racetrack.
Yep but she still go's good

if you have a hard hand an no fear the fzr goes a 1:32 also! a bike from the 90 is noch so eazy to drive! but if you can drive, the fzr its a beast@ highspeed Corners! in germany i ride the fzr with 260km/h/ 162,6 mp/h from the a61 over the e42 to the a60! www.google.de/maps/@49.9330444,7.9395427,1003m/data=!3m1!1e3 the fzr goes @12000rpm eazy 186mp/h -- 297km/h on the speedometer
This rider lacks baaaaaalls :P so what if its heavy and and soft just ride the hell of it anyway :)
you obviously never bothered to read up on this bike did you? firstly how do you compare a Genesis to a B-king which has obviously got TWO decades of advanced technology? Second is WHY do you put this bike on the show if all you going to do is degrade the bike? 20 years is a little late to want to point out flaws on a motorcycle that is not exactly flooding the markets on popular demand. Clinton if you going to test these bikes learn to ride properly, your start and riding style was horrendous.
i have a yamaha fzr 600 r =)))))
an your model in the test has the 135hp not the 145hp engine from 1992!! 88-91 135hp 92-94 145hp!
No. 1987-1988 (without EXUP) 135hp, 1989-1995 (with EXUP) 145hp.
in german the 90 model has 98ps and a max hp 135! the 89 and 90 models are still the 2lf/2le models whit full open 135hp. i have a 90 model (2lf) and a 92 model (3le) the 90 2lf have no exup!!! i thing the 90 models in Europe are the 2le/lf ones whit 135hp!@ 91 the exup versions cam to germany!
😱😱😱🙏🙏🙏👏👏👏👍👍👍
Whoever gave what to say to the commentator was an idiot... the tested bike is not a 1992, it must be a 1990 or older, just take a look at the fairing and at the front fork. Yamaha gave the 1991 and newers an inverted fork and a single headlight.
It was '89 model.
Ya, not so bad. Only Superbike of the decade. New bikes are ugly too.
Yes, they are weird looking, with fussy, over-styling, they also have bland colour schemes now.
Big bore kit ^^^^^^
in its day it might have handled ok. but the kawasaki ZXR750 handled much better.
But it was a 750. Not a litre sports bike. The gsxr750 handled better too.
I know what you mean about the zxr tho it was a proper race bike on the road at the time.
i have both , a fzr1000 and a zxr750. they cant be compared,, the fzr has way more power everywhere, especialy in midrange.
