Remember when shaving razors became 2 blades, then 3, then 4. I hope Yamaha just keeps adding front wheels to this thing.
I'll keep my unicycle thank you very much
Yep. I could use it as a furrow press if they keep adding front wheels!
So in a couple of years it will become a steam roller
Lmfaooooooo
Imma have the most strange looking 18 wheeler
I own a Niken and despite what people say, this IS the best wet weather bike I've ever ridden !
Can u drive in snow? How u like ur overall?
I can imagine you have more confidence in the rain.
must admit that's defenetly an advantage over 2 wheeled bikes. tbh i like the concept of 3 wheeler, but i think i'd go for a T-rex especially a Aero 3S body kit.
that being said, i live in belgium where the weather is crap most time of the year, a windshield is defenetly not over rated.
also heard this little bug can be tuned to be pretty nasty and is apparently also pretty good at drifting at his speed given it's weight.
You still have it,,,am buying it
The thing is, if it's raining cats and dogs, or it's raining and really cold...I already have a car.
I’ve been living under a rock apparently, this video is a year old and I still haven’t seen or heard of one of these until today. The first impression I got when I saw the front end was that of a Transformer in a crouch with forks for arms and wheels for hands. I was also really shocked to learn that it isn’t self balancing like other three wheels vehicles. Thanks for sharing it with us! I still have my ‘06 FZ1 bought in 2010 and it has been a great bike for what it is.
I’ve got both bikes actually. A Gen 2 FZ01 and a Niken and the niken is night and day comfier. Not as lively as the FZ1 but it makes up for it in absolute road comfort. The amount of questions I get every-time I go out is hilarious.
Here in 2024 to investigate this weird bike...
Heh brother, I just went for my first ride on my Suzuki boulevard 1500, and just want to say your vids have been invaluable in giving me confidence and inspiration as I practised the techniques. I haven't ridden since my teens, apart from an e'bicycle, which helped, but Your advice and steady teaching method continues to be really helpful. Thank you and God bless you and your family always.
This is a bike for people that don't care what others think.
So not for the insecure then.
Or needs attention....

It's FUGLY as all get out.
Honestly that suspension is a thing of absolute beauty.

@@brokeandtired lmao, what a hassle. Forks are already a bit time consuming and now you gotta do 4.

Currently happy with a 2007 Suzuki Burgman 650. It had 5800 on it at time of purchase 3 years ago, June. Just regular maintenance and up to 48.5 miles per gallon on Premium. This Niken is my win-the-lottery motorcycle; and I play 3 times a week!
This dude's riding a Bionicle
This comment is underrated
Ahh cruise control!!!! I knew this bike seemed different.
Touring bikes have cruise control, and this is sort of like a touring bike.
@Charles Szasz Missed the joke? How so? Isnt this bike exactly like every other sports touring bike? I fail to see the difference. No difference at all.

Dude the walkers were the coolest ever
I've just bought one and I can't wait to collect it next week.
They are being heavily discounted and the cost and the extra stability after a long break from motor cycling made this a good buy for me.
How are you finding it now a few months on?
I too would be interested in a rea world opinion.
Well Sean I am a new sub and I must say, I am a fan of the channel. I have about 50 years of riding experience, mostly HD, some Triumph and Honda as well. It is refreshing to see your unbiased appraisal of these bikes. Signed...a new fan.

This was my first thought. Cool idea but yea, the up keeps got to be a pain. Although im guessing the dudes buying them arent worried.
Don't need a lot maintenace? Don't need enought maintenance!
a front end maintanance is only 1 hour extra. the extra pair isn't an actual fork it's a guide.
Am I the only one that loves the way the two wheels look from the front? I love this bike I might actually get it. I never really give a crap about others. I get what I like.
It makes me dizzy looking at it, trying to focus.
Hell, I love it. 🇺🇸👍🔥💯
Meh...it's a bike...who cares?
why?
I like this bike as well
I don't mind three-wheeler bikes. Had a Piaggio MP3 a few years ago for commuting and it was lovely. Too heavy for the engine, but a fabulous piece of engineering and perfect for what I wanted. I could feel the extra grip and stability in that, feel is down to the tyres for the most part. To be honest, I've always thought the Niken looks really cool and unique.
I remember Yamaha tested a two-wheel drive R1 years back; I love it when companies let the engineers go nuts.
ruclips.net/video/5TrvXwoGKKU/видео.html
As someone that does all their own mech work, all I can do with this bike is sweat profusely at fork seal jobs
Becose you are noob. 😂😂😂😂😂
Honestly riding around berks county and hitting gravel and having my front end try to wash out on me, this makes alot of sense
If you hear the engineer for Tilting Motorworks conversions talk it's essentially those conditions that he designed his 3 wheel conversion around.
Outstanding editing and videography, Sean! The use of b-roll footage was perfect! I loved seeing the bike in motion with the first-person helmet camera. It adds so much more to a ride along. The scripted audio recording and editing was spot-on in the garage, with a ton of useful information on this bike. Just an excellent episode. Well done, guys!
First time I saw the concept commercial I fell in love with the bike
I my self was able to test ride the Niken back in 2020 and I found it vary enjoyable. I do ride a 2022 fxlrst now but if I do come across a Niken up for sale I will have to put it into the arsenal.
Whilst it’s not for me, I’m glad this thing exists. I really like that Yamaha built something unique and different. It also looks like it’s really well made - that front steering system looks awesome.
It’s all about TRACTION. 3 contact patches, especially for front control.
But does it still feel good
...because nobody buys them. All the dealers I know that has them, can’t get rid of them.

Well I own one and was one of the first in the U.S. I paid for it in full and and waited 8 months. I never saw one in person or ride one. You can definitely trust it in the twisties. I’ve taken it on the track for a bit of fun. I’ve put about 10,000 miles on it and really enjoy it. BTW you can lane split on it. It is no wider than a touring bike like a GW or HD.
I wonder if Yamaha could've though of reworking there Genesis style hub centre steering system into a duel arm, it might have ended up lighter, or possible seemingly less complex in the leaning cross-inkages & simpler method of Ackerman Effect adjustment steering wise, with a similar width between the hubs, ...plus without the nturally massive/stiff (forged?) fork stanchions top and bottom per side, and current unsprung & whole suspension weighting.
Did you also own a GTS 1000 back in the day? 😁 I did!
Ron Ahlstedt Super Tenere has wider bars.
Copy that Ron. It's an amazing machine, you can truly drage the pegs on it on the street, it only needs a bit more rear tire (Pilot 5 solved that). DW and I did a 6300 miles tour last summer. From a guy who has owned many may toys, the Niken is a gem. Worst part........you can't stop anywhere (in the US) for lunch, fuel or whatever without getting accosted by people who love the sound of their own voice.......
I'll bet it looks awesome when you wheelie on this bike!

@@AnonymousWonder wow can't believe so many people have it
It's subjective. Not everyone has the same taste thankfully. I really am not into the looks of this bike either, but I imagine it has to catch someone's eye or it wouldn't exist.
You're alone dude.
Sorry man, but it looks more like tricycle made for a man child. Just UGLY.
I was given a 1971 Yamaha acoustic guitar by my uncle. He said “this was the first really good guitar I ever bought” and he’d already been playing around the folk scene for years. It’s still an awesome sleeper guitar - I’ve had friends ask to record with it, instead of their Martin or Gibson. Yamaha has been rocking it forever. Always wished they made cars! Also, love your videos and your take on things. Curiosity and innovation keep the mind from becoming a big heavy slow wad of crap.
I have a Yamaha electric bass. It's excellent, but not something most bass players would buy. It's more like a bass that might be played in a church, or purchased to teach high school students to play the bass while ensuring they didn't enjoy it and they'd stay off drugs.
They have made car engines; 2jz, Taurus SHO, contour svt
Can you not get the 5 wheeled Yamacar where you are. We have them here in the UK. They have four back wheels and one front. Which is great till you get a flat in one of the back tyres, then it's like riding a shipping barge. The Queen used to ride one......
Always liked their keyboard pianos
I think with this bike anyone can take sharp corners confidently because of it's traction. Traction control should be very good in this bike. Because it has double front tyres and it's front suspension looks very beautiful. I would love to have one.
Or you could just buy any bike and practice.
I dont know why I start to watch Niken videos again every once in awhile. Its a cool bike with a cool name.
I bought one! Because….it’s different, I admire innovation and engineering. But no excuses, biking (motorcycling now..) is a personal thing. Just so happens it’s a great bike too. Only reservation? reverse trike* dont get that 1 wheel front 2 wheel back thing
@@tebibyte2357 In the definition of "trike" there is no specification of 2 wheels back or front. Only that it is 3 wheels total. So saying Yamaha Triken or Tricity is a trike is accurate.
@@1984kron ok
IT'S not a Trike and neither is my Ryker or the Spyder 🥴
They are however Bikes! Harley makes a Trike and by tradition it has one wheel in the front and two in the rear 👍
@@jamesglenn520 I don't think this or the Spyder or Ryker can be considered "bikes" since the "bi" part means 2. "Trike" is a more accurate term even if it has a negative connotation. Might need to come up with a new one to differentiate between 2 wheels at the back vs 2 at the front.
*EDIT* Of course they could all still be considered "motorcycles".

Plus it's only 35mm wider than a Tracer 900 so still fine for filtering in most situations. I honestly don't get why it receives so much hate, it's great fun and super stable. Look are subjective. Great overview.
Most folks are neither original or open minded. That's all.
People are allowed to have different opinions. Like this looks like ass and a bike for cowards.

"fine for filtering" that's a good one! 😀

Yeah..think they have replaced alot of the green Kawasaki GTR1400's which followed the tour...Nice looking bike the Kawasaki.
I saw one of these in a bike shop yesterday , madness, I want one.

Good for you brother, an extra wheel doesn't challenge your manhood. Real men can ride anything with a killer engine 💪🏾
The Niken is a very complicated version of what Norman Hossack designed back in the 1980s. Piaggio have the MP3 leaning scooter. It’s a fantastic tool on slippery city roads.
The Hossack had a pair of rocking beams to give the tilt. The centre pivot was sprung.

Make the back like the front with two tires but the rear tires a little bit lower & wider now you've got something even cooler looking with even more stability
Props on showing the riding position. I'm 6'4" and it definitely limits what bikes are comfortable to ride. Just a suggestion if you see it feasible since Sean is tall, say how he fits on it. There's been other bikes he's ridden where I'm thinking it would be a fun second bike to own, but assuming its probably too small by its looks. Such as the 17 Yamaha Vmax, looks like a heck of a lot of fun, but I'm assuming it's a smaller frame such as the Vstars.

I had a Piaggio MP3, great bike, not the same feeling as a two wheeler but an interesting vehicle, easy to ride and VERY VERY safe.
Pricey to maintance I have read....has problems with the steering unit on some older models...Don't know if that has been fixed yet. But the idea is sound..if tricky to make low maintanence...Plus they not cheap to start with.
I've had motorcycles since 1978, anything from a 125cc to an 1800. Being short, limits what I feel comfortable on. I have to be flat footed at a stop. How tall are you? You looked comfortable on it. Thanks for posting this video. The only 3 Wheeler I've had was a Can-Am Spyder. I got to test the prototype too before they were available on the market; that was cool.
I honestly love the look of it and two wheels up front makes sense. I live in Switzerland during the winter and on those mountain roads trust me, I can see that extra wheel saving me.
But I don't want a bike with a chain anymore and I want as much mileage in one tank as possible. Which this bike doesn't offer
Have you looked at the Piaggio Mp3 or the Quadro 3 I have owned both and think they are great fun!
I mean...if you want economy get a Vespa.
This is a "sport" bike actually GT bike. It's meant to excite the rider not just get them from A-B...its designed for the whole alphabet.
Having never owned ridden or even considered a motorbike this kinda setup intrigues me now just make it a 300 or 500cc and I would consider this a beginner bike.

In the uk it is classed as a trike or motorcycle with a side car thats the official stance however it will be listed as a bike .
That's a neat shopping cart!
I really like it. I'm too short to ride one though. I can see an aftermarket company getting hold of this and producing a lean lock so that the suspension can be locked at low speeds. This with a motorised stand would give a great option for disabled riders.

I honestly can't make my mind up about it. I've never seen one, let alone had a ride on one, so I guess I never will get the chance to make my mind up. Interesting concept though, but I'm glad you added the fact you can actually drop the machine!
I tried one in the Austian Alps for a whole Day: 3 Reasons why I would never Buy it: 1. It feels as havy as it looks but does not have the Comfort or the torque you would expect from a heavy Bike. A bigger Motor (Tenere 1200 for example) would fit it better. 2. You don‘t have any feel for the front Tyres whatsoever, and you never know How much space you have to the side of the road, this (and the weight) makes it very hard to ride in a clean line. 3. It is just ugly, you get a lot of attention but not not the good kind.
and: in a a few years, wo will produce 15 Inch Tyres which can do over 200? You could put on Scooter Tyres, but what Sense does it make to have 2 Wheels for more Grip if you only get crappy Tyres for it?
How tall are you? I’m sure that’s the problem
