Great that you took the time and effort to put these on YT, really enjoyed it. Mind you 1990 does'nt seem too long ago for a 61 year old. From my current bikes, 6 in total, 3 are ZZR1100's. It is a classic and still gives total riding satisfaction. Rider aids are limited to an optional bible to put in your jacket pocket and rabbit foot on your key ring.

Thanks for uploading this video. A real blast from the past. What I noticed was how true the comments of the testers were compared to todays tests. They stated the real world capability of these machines were. These days testers will rant on about one machine being a couple of KG lighter than the other and how one is a couple of MPH faster although 99% of riders will never achieve even 50% of what the bike is capable of. Thanks again

Glad you like the video, it's made it worthwhile making the effort to convert it from VHS to digital and uploading it, I agree they were much more likely in the good old days to say it 'how it was' rather then being scared of upsetting the manufacturers and losing future test rides/reviews.

The ZZR was my dream bike as a young man... Lusted after them. Finally got a chance to 'meet my hero' with a long test ride of a lightly used model in '98. I was not disappointed. My friend had just bought the CBR1100XX and the 11 easily held its own alongside. Was also lucky enough to try a '91 EXUP and loved it. I'd have either of these beauties - Head says ZZR; heart screams Yamaha. Bikes of this era simply rock. No rider aids; perfect. Keeps this stubborn, old school biker happy. LOL

This is why Kaws ruled the streets and Yamahas owned the tracks for a while. As a Kaw man, the only bikes we could ogle (even though I ogled them all) were FZR's. They were just detuned track bikes and they sounded like a bobcat on meth straight out of the factory. They just weren't the bikes you were going to ride all day on the streets. That was Ninja territory all day & all night long. I wouldn't kick any liter superbike out of the bed back in the 90's. That was just a magical time where they went from fairinged cafe racers to their own sub-species with MASSIVE exposed aluminum frames.
There was a time where the tech & infrastructure of bikes were being put on display and not in a naked way, but a more menacing peeking out from under the body work way (suspensions, exhausts, etc...). That was bike makers using a little Sun Tzu to intimidate the competition. Today, everybody just rides along in mixed packs, but back then, the rivalries back then were grimy! 😂

Also owned a 89 FZR (same time as the ZZR) and Thunderace, if I was going for blast the Yam won, for more power and two up, the ZZR. Sold the Yams eventually and kept a ZZR simply as it was more practical, eventually realised I was going to hurt myself trying to ride the ZZR like a sports bike. Bought a Triumph 955i for that

Horseshit shiny man hole covers pot holes, dripping diesel, large ruts left by HGVS and buses can all make for terrifying surprises, back to the point about being over powered, personally I find the bigger the bike the safer I feel, power can get you out of situations as well,
When was the last time you saw a Rolls-Royce being ragged round country lanes flat out sideways ? Personally I’ve never seen that happen, just because the power is there doesn’t mean you have to redline every gear
And the race replica motorcycle is just one of many other styles of bike ,from sport super sport ,grand tourers
An interesting question would be for me , “ which bike has the best all round features, power but comfy, not disgaurding good looks comfy ride with plenty of umph
