You have an absolute gem on your hands. I grew up riding Yamahas in the '80s and owned an FJ1100, Virago 1000, RZ500 and a number of other bikes. Today, however, so much marketing is focused on planned obsolescence with people crapping on things when they reach 2 years of age. For the spec sheet warriors, the '87 FZR1000 still delivers impressive numbers. But more than that, it's a bad-ass time capsule that very few people will ever experience. Consider yourself lucky!! Enjoy the bike. I know I'm gonna love mine.
Smiling watching this. I am now the proud owner of a 1985 Yamaha FJ1100. Everything you talked about I was "Yes, yes exactly!" These bikes are gems full of spirit and character, raw and alive.
I owned the FZR 750. I remember how I felt riding it back in the day. It was my first "big boys" bike. In Australia the law at the time was that you had to ride a 250cc bike for 12 months, then you could ride whatever you wanted. I remember selling my VT 250 Honda as soon as I could and getting the Yamaha. This video takes me back.
Im 27 and i ride a '97 Honda Africa Twin XRV750, and i feel exacly the same way as you. Im so proud of owning it, it is genuinely capable, the twin headlights, the awesome colours, the Dakar heritage... AND relatively cheap and _increadibly_ easy to work on. People are salivating on "retro" bikes but are sleeping on these old bikes which are genuine gems.
It's great to see you have saved a classic Yamaha from the 80's and are enjoying it after so many years. I have an early 90's TDM850 that i put 50k miles on before parking it up and replacing with a gen 1 Fazer 1000 which i've put over 100k miles on and counting. Old Yamahas just get better with age. ☺️👍
Back in 2002 I rode from the midlands of the U.K. to Italy and back via the Swiss alps and returned through the French alps. My friend rode an FZR600, I rode my 1990s TRX850. First trip of many for me.
She's lovely mate. I'm 48 and had pics of this bike on my bedroom wall as a teenager. I'm seriously thinking of picking up one for the summer next year. Great purchase my friend 👊
Hammer!
My first bike was a 2000 SV650S, semi-faired, carbed version. I had that bike for around 4 years and I did everything with it: commuting, weekend rides, long distance travel, trackdays etc. It was not without its issues, but yeah, I kind miss it sometimes. The bike, not the issues. Bikes then had curves and beautiful frames ^_^
there's something heartwarming about how this man has found _his_ bike, I hope to find mine one day too I'm not even into riding in a sporty manner but I love the colorful and passionate aesthetics with comfortable fairings, current designs seem too focused on appearing formal with dark colors and a naked look only concern though, how do vintage vehicles hold up after these decades? maybe it's tricky finding parts?
It’s not that difficult and I hope this helps; I differentiate between wear‘n‘tear items such as- clutch/brakes/gaskets/filters/fork-seals/screen and cycle-parts. All these are easily obtained because there’s different suppliers producing these. And then there’s original spare parts such as side-panels/fairing/tank/pistons w rings and motor parts. These are a bit more complicated and sometimes difficult. Bits can sometimes (not always!) be found in the internet and it’s luck finding the right colour. Patience is required because, it took me 3 years to find a part for my 1997 Honda Vfr750.
Funny thing is, in my country the few of them that are online, which are not many, the cheapest one in riding condition costs 8k, funny how something has such a different price tag depending on what country you are. thats one of the things i hate about my country, but, it is what it is. nice bike and nice videos, keep them coming ❤❤
I was about to say the same in France for a bike like that in the same condition it cost around 4K€. Already too late for cheap FZR 😅 It looks great thanks for the video
@@FreeMilesMC yes, not kidding, there are very few in riding conditions and the one just like yours in a nice condition actually is around 8.200 Euros which is almost 9.000 USD. its crazy!
Lovely bike, a great find! This era of motorcycles is the sweet spot - enough performance and refinement, great styling, but something which gives you a high degree of engagement. I have a Triumph Trophy 900 from 1991, one of the first bikes to come from the new Triumph company. It has '80s styling and a raw appeal, with excellent build-quality.
Beautiful machine - I’m happy that you’re happy! I guess people buy old cars because they’re nostalgic for the past, when cars were simpler and they had a certain coolness about them… never mind the inflated cost now. You’ve bought your own nostalgic bike, just like them, but you’ve not waited quite so long and got a good deal. Look after it, and tell your grandchildren why you’re still riding it! 👍✅😎❤️
I am excited for you. I love the fact you are into the old FZR so much. I dont agree with your opinion on the looks, but you go for it. I can't wait to see what you do with it. Fit some R1 brakes, RaceTech gold valves in the forks and a rear shock and take it to the race track maybe. :)
Now this is truly an example of a man in love with his machine! This classic liter bike is 🔥freakin’ awesome!!! I was around your age in the 80’s when that bike came on the market in the States 🇺🇸 and it was only offered in 3 color ways. FM, now it’s time for a matching SHOEI or AGV helmet and red leather jacket, and then you’re all set! Just a suggestion of course!?! Enjoy!!! 😎 🏍️💨✌️
I was a kid when those bikes went on market, in early 90s i bought motorcycle catalogue and all bike from that era got double rounded headlights, i love it till today. That FZR is one of bike i would like to have in my collection and hearing that you pay 1000 euro fot it is awesome and super cheap. Good luck with it. 2 Yamahas owner.
I had an '86 FZR1000 about 20yrs ago and loved it. I only sold it because the temptation to take it to crazy speeds was too great and I was either going to lose my license, or my life. I also had a Kawasaki GPZ1000RX, but that thing was scary!
Have to agree with you. as a 50 year old... I owned a Rd350lC, RZ350, rz 250- TZR250 and a 1987 FZR1000. The FZR1000 demands full respect as it has enough usable power to punish if you don't. These days I have a triumph 675r but in all honestly the FRZ1000 wins for value performance and style. I wouldn't hesitate for a second to buy another good example of one. It's a absolute bargain.
i bought my dream machine last week 88 zx10.your bike is my second dream bike....its like you saying you feel you buyng a real superbike because they ride as fast as the qwuickest bikes today and you pay only 2k or less ...this world is umbilievable my friend
enjoy this vintage bike! I had a 1984 GPz750 for a few decades, and sold it as it really needed much of the rubber bits, hoses, caliper seals, bearings, etc. replaced or rebuilt due to age. I rode this bike a lot and they are definitely a raw experience, something modern bikes don't have, but you will find yourself eventually deciding that you either have to dive in deep and source all the little bits that will ultimately need replacing, or sell it and get a modern'ish bike.
I'm a bit young for knowing vintage bikes and just recently got into them after riding a little Yamaha YBR 125 to see if motorcycles are really that fun but so far my A2 motorcycle searches found me a Suzuki GS500 Five Stars in purple with two round headlights that i wish i could show how good and well taken care of it looked but can't in YT comments and it got sold before i had a way to buy it. I'm still looking at cool older bikes not just in A2 range and so far i love the SRAD Suzukis and the Kawasaki ZXR 750 looks like a beast that really cares about how it looks with the liveries it has. For now tho I'll have to stay with my Daelim, fix a 1000€ RC 390 during winter (cheap because the engine did a KTM) learn how to ride sport bikes with that and just maybe by the time i get a proper A license they'll still be worth as much as a ZXR 750
You should check out the fzr 600 it’s super cheap the engine is relatively reliable up until 70000 kilometers but replacement engines are very cheap. Or some of the old Honda 600 actually have a video coming for that soon ☺️
@FreeMilesMC That's good, if only KTMs could say the same But I checked out of curiosity and there's 2 80' style headlights 600s for sale one of which is 1350€ and looks to be very loved by the owner 1991 white and red with blue accents no drops or scuffs registered as a A2 But the other one is the world tempting me to turn to the dark side 1988 red and white that lived a life of many many owners for 2800€ With a little ZXR 750 in black with a neon pink and purple livery under it for 2100€ Much better pricing on that white FZR and black ZXR , wonder if the red FZR will be up for as long as those 5000€ ZXRs are sitting (still not sold)
The brake calipers don't like water, pistons seize solid. Be considerate on the box going from 1st to 2nd and back to 1st past neutral. The GSXR750 from pre 92 are better but more weight on the wrist. Don't underestimate the early FJ1200 either. I had an FZR1000 in '87 white and blue age 18. Traded in my RD500lc which was my first bike after taking my test. I now have a 26 year old Harley FXDL,poor image quality short of it on my channel. Love the one you're with.
I agree with what you said I rode those bikes back in the 80's and loved it and I still ride to this day. I have a old classic bike a 1979 Yamaha RD400F Daytona Special 2stroke street bike and I get the same look from other guys what kind of bike is that.
my comment would be, that i just by coincidence recently recalled very good how as a young child i was looking an the pictures of these sportbikes in a very specific cataloque (i can name year, month everything :-) ). Now recently i have recently gotten myself an old GSX-R 750 which for it´s age looks very modern and i will keep it, because i enjoy the rawness and few amount of electronic it has and i love working on it, but i must say, that if there would be more space to have an other motorcycle , it would either be a supercheap dirtbike to practize stuff i don´t dare to practize on more expensive motorcycles or an really old school looking bike like this on. man, i wouldn´t change a single thing, even the mirrors suit the look soooo soooo good. and yes, there is something about dual headlights, i share this fetish, hehe. what i also resonate with is your own way of looking at things and not following the beaten paths, which to me appear to be quit some in the topic of motorcycle GAS, features and performance "must haves". what i mean is, that i had a F650GS. and loved it. rode the crap out of it. 200.000km plus, and thou i received so many mean comments (like "girls bike" "driving license bike", "is this your first month of riding?","where´s your neon colored safety jacket?" ) , i just felt sorry for all these people and focused on what was true for me, and that was, that i loved to ride this bike quite much to its limits, i after a while just knew it sooo well, and also the working on it was so reasonable for me to keep it, because it wasn´t expensive, wasn´t too scary for my riding skills etc etc. i feel like there is so much joy to be gained from having the luck to pic and get to know a motorcycle that meets this criteria and let´s you do the riding without the bullshit extras you in the end don´t really need but surely pay in times like these now.
Last year I picked up a 93 Yamaha GTS1000, same engine, but hub centre steering chassis. I'll not part with this one. There is a video on my channel telling its story.
Actually on These Videos about the fzr so many people with motorcycle Channels themself have comemted it’s actually so cool to have a Look at all the different Channels doing stuff around this Platform . I did Not expect this
my comment on vintage superbikes is that please don't hurt yourself. your channel deserves to grow even more! what a piece of a bike - i feel happy for you!
Classic sportsbike. 5 valves per cilinder. The only bike brand that used this technology. (in cars it was only Ferrari and Maserati who did 5valve technology) This FZR1000 is a very fast bike! (definitely NOT a beginner bike.) Does it have the EXUP system?
No it does Not have the exup System because i want to maintain This bike myself so i went for the less complicaded Version and also i wanted the First Model year because the headligt looks slightly different and i don’t have to do and emmissons testing with this one
Hrm...actually Aprilia also had a 5 Valve Engine! The F650GS (or F650? cant remember) was produced by Aprilia. But the Pegaso 650 (Aprilia branded F650) had a 5 Valve Head insted of the original 4 Valve setup Rotax designed the engine with. The Pegaso 650 might be the cheapest way to get a 5 Valve Engine😂
Audi sold a 1800 ccm engine with 5 valves and 125 HP.Was a rather boring performance,at least without turbo. Also fuel consumption wasn't good .Owned one in a A4 from '96.
Beautiful, awesome bike. More of that 80s motorcycle porn with the cool music would be great 😊👍🏼 Btw, is your Interceptor still in Greece, or did you sell it?
I'd love to find one of these at the price you got. Here in the states its gonna be a minimum of 4000 and that would probably be in shit condition. I looked up a few mint ones and they're asking like nonsense collector prices. Too many nostalgic people over here.
I had a 87 fzr 1000 in high school and a guy did a left infrount of me so it put me out for some time but the 87 88 fzr is ok but the motor is 990cc I believe I later on got a 1990 FZR 1000 THE 89 90 FZR 1000 had a better motor 1003cc and I found that there are more aftermarket go fast parts for it then the 87 88 I got a 1070 kit in mine and I plane on doing more work to it so if you want a FZR 1000 get a 89 and newer with the 1003cc motor I like the 89 90 the best in 91 92 they when to a single head light and in 93 they when to the cat eye or fox eye head light but I think form 91 to the end they where bigger looking then the 89 90 the old bike bikes are hard to find and you don't see them any more its sad that sport bike get treated like hookers I like to treat them like a lady so there always around
Design and style went out of fashion in the 2000's, everyone has now been persuaded to buy the same car so it's no wonder that old renault Four's are now changing hands for £10,000 +, some people have a need for their own style and the marketeers swoop down on any trend. Modern bikes are moving away from looking like bikes, KTM's look like a bag of chisels with two wheels attached, Ducati Diavel is a pig on wheels, modern retro style is obviously fake so the genuine retro scene is alive because of this and prices are rising as a result. I've been riding for over forty years now and have seen the changes forced upon the consumer through government legislation at the behest of their political donors. They want our old machines off the roads, hence ethanol in petrol to bugger up your carb internals on the pretext of saving the environment, yet they are quite happy to sell depleted uranium tipped weapons to ukraine and blow up the nordstream 2 pipeline and completely fuck up western european industry. I myself ride, not drive, you drive a car but you ride a bike so I ride a lightly customised 1988 Yamaha Vmax 1200 that I've had for 25 years. It's as fast as you want it to be, comfortable cruising and looks fantastic and I get lots of compliments on it wherever I go because it's different to anything else. I'm different from the normies, not better, just different so I say it with my bike, my clothes, my music, my art and my opinions.
You have an absolute gem on your hands. I grew up riding Yamahas in the '80s and owned an FJ1100, Virago 1000, RZ500 and a number of other bikes. I agree with what you said I rode those bikes back in the 80's and loved it and I still ride to this day. I have a old classic bike a 1979 Yamaha RD400F Daytona Special 2stroke street bike and I get the same look from other guys what kind of bike is that.
Very good choice, very good bike, this and the HONDA CBR 1000 F.....
In Greece this bike at this condition would cost more than €4k
my comment would be, that i just by coincidence recently recalled very good how as a young child i was looking an the pictures of these sportbikes in a very specific cataloque (i can name year, month everything :-) ).
200.000km plus,
and thou i received so many mean comments (like "girls bike" "driving license bike", "is this your first month of riding?","where´s your neon colored safety jacket?" ) , i just felt sorry for all these people and focused on what was true for me, and that was, that i loved to ride this bike quite much to its limits, i after a while just knew it sooo well, and also the working on it was so reasonable for me to keep it, because it wasn´t expensive, wasn´t too scary for my riding skills etc etc.
i feel like there is so much joy to be gained from having the luck to pic and get to know a motorcycle that meets this criteria and let´s you do the riding without the bullshit extras you in the end don´t really need but surely pay in times like these now.
Awesome bike, enjoy it.
Classic sportsbike. 5 valves per cilinder. The only bike brand that used this technology. (in cars it was only Ferrari and Maserati who did 5valve technology)
This FZR1000 is a very fast bike!
Ride them, don't hide them. I also love my 35 year old Super Tenere 750.
Yamaha FZR 1000 cost now (same year modell and almost same color decals) 3990€ in Finland! Date 1.11.2024
Beautiful, awesome bike. More of that 80s motorcycle porn with the cool music would be great 😊👍🏼
Btw, is your Interceptor still in Greece, or did you sell it?
I'd love to find one of these at the price you got. Here in the states its gonna be a minimum of 4000 and that would probably be in shit condition. I looked up a few mint ones and they're asking like nonsense collector prices. Too many nostalgic people over here.
Old school is cool.
hell yeah brother
It will appreciate in value, but I will be surprised if it is quick and to a high price.
I’m looking at some cbr400rr this weekend. The time to get one is now isn’t it?
Budget still tight the spoon mic😂😂😂😂
👍🏼
Shit now I want one too
pretty sure engine blowing up isnt a minor weakness lmao 0:53
THE ENGINE TENDS TO BLOW UP?????
nothing cooler!!
The music while you are talking is really annoying!
Good that you are going to resume your tavels btw. Enjoy!
Well said. I concur wholeheartedly.
