I loved this song for years, and yet...something you said at the end that made me realize something new about this song. This is a pretty muscular ballad when you get down to it. A "power ballad" maybe. Certainly it's not one of those gentle, "pretty" ballads. I know maybe not everyone would agree with that assessment, but assuming there's a point to that, you have to say the lyrics are very vulnerable. That contrast of strength and vulnerability might have a lot to do with what makes this song so great.

For those who don't know: every - EVERY! - electric guitar sound you hear on this song was played by Paul. (As, of course, was the bass, the drums and the piano -- but that guitar solo!)

This was on his first solo album in 1970. He produced this album all alone on his farm in england playing all instruments himself.
The song is - of cause - dedicated to his wife Linda who was the love of his life.

I grew up listening to English-language music. I love very much: Beatles, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Genesis. I have not listed all of them. Pink Floyd is number 1 for me!!! Strange. For me, the best music was created in the 60-70 years. Paul McCartney has more cool songs. Everyone's taste is different - you can't argue. My favorite Paul Songs: Band on the run, Ram, Dear friend, Monkberry Moon Delight, Nineteen Hundred And Eighty Five, Love is song, Beware my love. I started to list and realized how many there are. I advise you to listen to some of these.

Paul McCartney & Wings: “Band On The Run”, “Silly Love Songs”, “With A Little Luck”. All mega hits for Paul solo, and there’s a whole lot more where that came from

"My Valentine" is a beautiful Paul McCartney song. The video is Johnny Depp & Natalie Portman with Eric Clapton on guitar. Worth a watch.

There are a handful of Paul McC solo songs out there ("Say, Say, Say". "Ebony and Ivory", plus newer collab things) but this is hands down his best imo.

Lovely reaction. But yeah, growing up as a Beatles fan I was always amazed by Paul's voice since even the early stuff. You should hear him doing Long Tall Sally in the early Beatles oh, it's just mind-blowing. Another one that happened later during the Beatles along with so many really but for some reason this song just jumped into my mind, oh darling.. It kind of has a similar quality. But yeah when they broke up and he released this album, this was immediately one of my first favorite songs from it. It's all just so good

Paul wrote this song to his first wife (Linda Eastman) in 1970. She was his rock especially after the beatles split up and Paul got depresed. She New that Paul need to create music to be happy so she encoaged him to continue in a solo carrier. He loved her and she was his companion till she died of cancer in1998.
