This is my favorite of Paul's songs. That beautiful blonde lady singing background was his wife, Linda. This song was for her. R.I.P. Linda

He wrote the song very shortly after the Beatles breakup. He ones said his wife Linda saved his life in this time.

You can't ever go wrong with anything by The Beatles or any of it's members, that is a great performance.

Linda McCartney, his wife [the blonde] singing back up vocals and playing synthesizer keyboard. the song was written about her saving him from a downward spiral of alcohol and depression after the Beatles broke up, but BEORE the public knew it. She talked him into doing a solo album "McCartney" released in 1970. Maybe I'm Amazed should have been released as a single but never was. Radio stations played it as if it were a single. This is the song from that album played live in the mid 1970's by Paul's group Wings. The 1970 studio version had only Paul playing ALL of the instruments and singing all of the vocals, maybe with Linda's help. Linda died of cancer in April 1998...I miss her...

My friend was at this show or another on the same tour. He gave me an 8x10 photograph that he took of Paul at the piano from the same angle. He's wearing the same sparkling jacket and white scarf, and also white shoes and socks. I've had the photo under the glass of my coffee table for more than forty years, and it is stuck there now.

    • @patticrichton1135

actually that is not a white scarf, it is the long lapels of his jacket. I saw this 1976 concert tour in May in Detroit, Michigan. I was 29 then.

This was one of Paul's finest performance's of his life here, and they caught it on film...amazing. At this point, about 1976, he had proven he didn't need the Beatles, he just needed an audience. I believe this was from the Wings Over America tour, and film and album of the same title. he was 34 at the time. You cannot expect an 82 year old today to sing like that.

In 2013, McCartney went on "The Colbert Report" to promote the DVD release of his "Rock Show" film, and the re-release of his "Wings Over America" album. He gave a great interview by Stephen Colbert. Mr Colbert told the audience prior to McCartney coming out, that he told him its a half hour show and that he had time to do one song. McCartney immediately agreed to an hour long show and play six songs, which he did.

I recommend the studio version (album title "McCartney") of this beautiful tune. If you like McCartney and/or the Beatles, the McCartney album - his first, after the Beatles breakup and before he formed the band Wings - is absolutely gorgeous and should be listened to as a whole. Paul played all the instruments on the album, and Linda sang some back-up. The photos of the family on/in the album jacket are pretty special too. Linda was a professional photographer and produced some spectacular books of photography before she died.

@Sarah- First and foremosts you look great rocking The Elvis hat. Absolutely love it. Thanks for this reaction. I love Paul McCartney and Baby I'm amazed is one of my fav songs ever. The one backup singer with the blonde hair was his wife Linda. They were married for years before she died of Cancer.

The first album I ever bought as a kid in the mid-1970's was The Beatles blue album "1967-1970". Then their red album, "1962-1966". My third album purchase was McCartney's "Wings Over America", still my favorite live album to this day. My older brother already had all The Beatles albums from the 1960's, in addition to probably every classic 70's hard rock album ever recorded at that time. Musically, I had a great childhood.

Love all of Paul's work with the Beatles & solo with Wings. I had so many of his records. He has so many great songs such as "Band On The Run", "Jet", "Live & Let Die", "Listen To What The Man Said", "Silly Love Songs", "Let 'Em In", "My Love", "Helen Wheels", "Let Me Roll It", "Junior's Farm", "Venus & Mars/Rock Show", "Mull Of Kintyre", "With A Little Luck" etc.

The guy playing bass in this is Denny Laine, Paul's right hand man who stuck with him and Linda the whole duration of "Wings" for 10 years when other members would quit. He recently passed away Dec.5, 2023. Denny also played guitar and some piano. Wrote songs. He was a founding member of the Moody Blues, another British Band of the 1960's/70's, and he sang lead vocal on their first hit in 1965 "Go Now."

    Another wonderful reaction, Sarah. ❤
The song was off Paul's first solo album, released almost simultaneously with his announcement that The Beatles have broken up. So it was tough at first for people to fully appreciate the quality of that album on which Paul played ALL the instruments. They were just in grief and shock at the end of the legendary band.
The song is widely understood to be about his wife, Linda, who was there playing keyboards in this performance.
    Pretty cool, eh? 😁

...there is only one Paul McCartney... this song was dedicated to his wife Linda, who was to be seen in this video on stage as part of the band (long blond hair)... she was the love of his life (she died in 1998 of cancer; they had 4 children together + 1 from her first marriage)... 💖

@@strathman7501 WOW, the fact that his live performances and VOCALS are always much MORE passionate than his studio recordings, is WHY I LOVE those LIVE performances BETTER, especially when it's also a video too. I LOVE WATCHING him perform. The studio version of this is shorter and doesn't have as good of an ending as this does.

    • @strathman7501
      @strathman7501 2 дня назад

@@patticrichton1135 I like watching too, and I'm glad this live video exists. The whole show is fantastic. The live energy is something special. But personally, considering just the music, I think the studio original has a dynamical range and a variety of texture and detail that gets smoothed away in live versions - for one example, the twin-guitar counterpoint in the original is missing, and although Jimmy plays his solo beautifully something is lost. And if we want visuals, well personally I love the slide-show style video that goers with the studio version. But of course, tastes will vary. It's all good!

You could react to EVERY song from this 1976 concert tour , which this performance here, is part of (which went under the title "ROCKSHOW" originally released to movie theatres in 1980, then on VHS, and now you can get it on DVD or watch it all on You Tube. This 1976 concert tour wa referred to as the "WINGS OVER AMERICA" tour. I saw this 1976 tour in May of '76 in Detroit, Michigan.
