In a Interview with John Lennon…
The journalist asked John had he talked to Paul McCartney? John responded that Paul was off writing some Silly Love Songs.
When Paul heard of the response from John, Paul intentionally wrote this song with John’s quote as the song title!
Funny thing is that this song went on and out sold any of John’s songs at that time!!

"Silly Love Songs" was a gigantic hit back when, quickly topping the charts to become the song of 1976. I heard it on the radio so often back then that merely reading the name can start the song playing in my head even now more than 45 years later -- that bass line, the melody, those harmonies, the horn riffs, the disco string arrangements. The first vinyl album I bought when I got a few years older was Wing's Greatest Hits, in part because of this song, as well as the others like "Band on the Run", "Live and Let Die", "Jet", "Junior's Farm" etc. More songs to put a smile on your face!

Good one guys. Sounds of the 70's and Paul's reaction to critics, including John, that all he writes is silly love songs. What a great way to counter. He proves again that he is the king of melody and a master of the bass as a lead instrument. Bittersweet to hear Linda, his wife who passed away in the 90's, sing back up. Band on the Run, So Bad, What the Man Said, are other good examples of Paul's melodic genius.

This song brings back memories.I was 12 years old and in 1978 I met this girl I got to know over the summer. My mom made me go to my grandmother out of town and she happened to leave that day to go back home in another state.I never got to tell her bye or never spike to her again. As we were going to my grandmother's that song came on.Everytime I hear that song I think about her.I knew what state she lived but never been able to get in touch with her.She was my first love.

I remember this song so well from the summer of '76. I was a 9yr old just getting into music of my own. Oh and it was the Bicentennial that year and Philidelphia Freedom was playing constantly! Where does the time go! ❤️ the reactions..... It is rather catchy!!

Mid-70’s …summertime …as a little kid …in the back of my parents Chevelle with my sisters …windows down …riding to a campground in NJ for the weekend …this (new) song playing on the radio …Dad tapping along with his wedding band against the door frame as he drives …Mom holding the map. Songs truly DO spark fond memories from long ago✨

McCartney showing off his bass skills on this one..It's easy to forget just what a phenomenal bass player he is, with all his other talents..Incidentally, the song was written to answer critics, including John Lennon, and also Elvis (who, ironically, never wrote a single song of his own) that Paul wrote mostly love songs.

This is one of those songs that takes me way back to when I was little kid. It seemed like this was a song that was always on the radio when we were going somewhere in our folks' car. This and the other McCartney song when he says, "Sister Suzie, brother John." I have a sister named Suzie, and we used to look at each other when we heard that as little kids and say, "How does that radio man know about us?" 😅

Paul’s (tongue-in-cheek) answer to John’s snarky comment about his ex-partners writing cheesy love music. Paul being the pop maestro nailed it!! The song is groovy, gets the message across, and is infectious! Also constructed superbly, layered vocals at the end w/ Linda and Denny…just awesome! I remember when this song came out. My brothers made fun of it….by the end of summer, they were singing the damn song…C’mon Man! McCartney Rules.

Paul McCartney and Wings was his group after the Beatles and his late wife, Linda was part of this group! He wrote this song in response to critics who said he wrote silly love songs! Besides the hits with the Beatles and Wings he also had two big hit duets with Michael Jackson, The Girl Is Mine and Say Say Say…check them out! He was part of one of the best songwriting duos ever, along side of John Lennon for many of the Beatles’ hits! ❤️❤️
