- 31-year-old hairstylist, Colin, lives and works in North London. Last year he set up his own salon, with help from the Princess Trust. After business costs, Colin's income is £13,000 per year, but his passion for the finer things in life has dropped him £20,000 in debt. Little surprise he's in debt when 4 pairs of underwear cost £125. Colin's passions go way beyond fancy pants. His biggest indulgence is the personal training, costing him near £5000 a year. Then there are the trips abroad, up to five a year, and always in 5-star hotels. Colin and budgets are not well acquainted. It's time to bring on the big guns!

One of the things I’m getting from a lot of these videos is that our parents and our upbringing can really make or break us/can cause lifelong suffering. It’s so important to have loving, kind, understanding parents who also set realistic boundaries for their children and accept them just as they are.
The client who brought him lunch & dinner as a surprise is an absolute saint!
Oh, Sweet Colin. The bullying he faced must have been devastating. Those uncles should be ashamed of themselves. The mom is in denial. She MUST have seen something.
Exactly what I just came to say
Found out he’s co owner of a hair salon. He looks good, hopefully he’s doing well.
Colin is such a sweetheart. I can't believe how much abuse he endured as a child. I hope he's doing well now
1 pound for a bus, 2.79 for lunch? In London? It is definitely early 2000s.
I was a late bloomer and didn't came out until I was almost 20, but here I see again how grateful I can be to my supportive, loving family. The story of how the teacher and uncle dealt with him shocked me greatly. This documentary is already at least 16 years old, I hope Colin is doing well!
Loved Colin and am furious that any child should have been verbally abused in such a way, as he was. The sadistic bully of a teacher should not have been allowed near children - I hope he/she got their come uppance in later life
If you ever get to read this Colin, i hope you're doing well and i think you're an amazing person!
Why are they shading his Aunts living room? She's an older lady why would they expect his her to have a hip trendy living room, it's an elegent Victorian style perfectly normal for people of a certain age. No need to say things like "you wouldn't want to invite your mates here at the end of the night". I'd love to see how their older relatives homes are decorated. I bet that house is worth a fortune in Muswell Hill
Because he cares about his travel, clothes, appearance and living the high life, but he does it by living with his aunt. Time to move out and be a responsible adult.
Having your own place is great when you have a traumatic family. Freedom to live your life on your own terms.
I agree. Hearing the mom say that his aunt was one of the people that supported him, I didn’t like they way they were criticizing her place. They knew he was living with an older aunt.
They didn’t criticize her place. The y we’re trying to make the point that it’s not the style for a young person like him.
That really rubbed me the wrong way. Her house l, her style, she can do whatever she wants. I'm young and found her style pretty nice
Watching these shows and after self reflection, I no longer look at all my income as “this is how much I get to spend” and now see it as “I’ve paid my bills and this is how much I’ve saved”.
I really like Colin. At first I didn't understand why he was spending so much on boxing lessons. But then it made sense when he explained more about his Dad and how they bonded more through boxing. I loved how Colin tried everything that was asked of him. And was really sad when he talked about his self esteem and his childhood. I loved to see the weekend with his brother and his mum saying she was proud of him. Lovely man I wish I had a friend like him. ❤️
Why are they judging his aunt’s house?? Friends shouldn’t care about where you live if they are true friends
Why wouldn't he bring people back to the house?? If they sneered about his aunt's house they wouldn't be real friends!!
They didn't say anything wrong... the living room looks like a "grandma place". Its not for a young man. But i think he is very happy he can live there.
This bloke is such a legend for applying himself. Hope his business continues to strive
He seems to have turned things around. His business is still running and he's still co owner
24 minutes in shows how caring this man is. Heartbreaking how he was treated and how much he gave up to try and save his brother from any chance of feeling some of that pain
Colin seems to be a very nice person. I hope he develops more confidence & makes his business a success.
His mum is definitely covering up for the family, because she isn’t being understanding neither is she being dismissive but just sort of…..🤷🏻♀️ “can we stop talking about it now”
Everytime his mom was on camera I thought the same thing. I don’t believe she never saw any of what he said went on. Even when he brought up the teacher that hit him and came over to apologize she barely looked at him and said she didn’t remember that. I’m 28 and have two older brothers 30 and 33. My mother has a bad memory and is still able to recall negative experiences we had in school.
@@sudanbabe Terrible isn’t it! He is seeking reassurance from her in that moment, re-sharing the moments that really defined his life until that point, she could of broken the cycle and showed some emotion, supporting him in some way, instead gaslights him into thinking that she didn’t know/he didn’t tell her. You can see why he thought staying away from his brother was a better idea if they constantly treated him like that.
@@aam3361 💯%
I like it that he did not sponge off his friends.
Light bulb went off in my brain...i wonder if Colin ever thought of opening up the salon at home, working out an arrangement with his aunt and save on the rent in that salon ?
Oh my gosh, so awful Colin was treated this way...
It's good he was wanting to do this. I like watching the progression of him and the specialist people! The hot air balloon ride was beautiful
You can tell this was recorded in early 2000's
Indeed. Has 2005 copyright (56:03), so would have been shot in either 2004 or 2005.
TV is a giveaway. It's huge. Proper early noughties brick box
I like that they still allow for fun things in the budget. It's much more practical and realistic.
Oh, I think Colin is a lovely boy! He's kind and caring and it's clear his family and friends adore him, he can cut my hair any time!
He's a man not a boy
@@PointNemo9 in terms of being addressed by somebody of seniority in age, young men are often referred to by their diminutive, i.e. boy instead of man. It's extremely common, not only in English, but Hindu, Thai, Korean, Laotian, Norway, Germany , etc etc etc. It's generally endearing, and meant in good faith.
At the time of filming he was 32 years of age
He ain't no boy. At the time of filming he was 32 years of age
A very sweet and caring young man.
Maybe he could go back to being a hairstylist for someone else instead of owning his business
This video is from 2005...styles were different then.
That would somehow, I believe fe like just another faiure, that he could not successfully manage his own Salon., That would not help his self Esteem, It seems with his personality ,Charisma , and caring spirit his potential for Success is right around the corner.
I think he only rents a space in a salon,he doesn’t own it !
He’s co owner now…
@@connieh6136 Yes, he rented SPACE but the business/company is OWNED by him. Big difference. You can be a business owner and operate out of your home...nothing to do with property being rented vs owned.
That's what they need to do to all the companies that apply for bankruptcy
What a nutcase of a teacher! Don’t surprise me though my substitute teacher told me I made up my stutter
I find this psychologist incredibly draining..weird energy.
He is a beautiful soul. ❤️
Hope he is happy now.
Lovely guy -hope things are still going well for him.
Why hasn't the mum put the flowers in water?? That is the real question. Great guy Colin. Hope he's well and happy.
Woowww £125 for three pairs of pants. ? That's insane😳😲😲.
Four...and it was filmed nearly 20 years ago
Only my 2 cents but he’s probably in love with his personal trainer which is why he can’t back out of seeing him.. also, this guy needs to get out of London.
I thought the same thing! He clearly wasn't dieting. And didn't look like someone who sees a trainer that many times!
Both his budget and diet was being wrecked by those nights out on the town. I'm only half way in so let's see if that changes.
He wouldn't miss several appointments if that was true.🤷🏻♀️
@@carichaos1651 if what were true?
@Cameron. harsh!
I am not elderly but love the oil painting and frames.
Oh, I hope he has worked on everything and is ok now xxx
Great programme. Good on you Colin! Lovely guy with a heart of gold.
Hes one of my favourite people I've watched and there's so many horrible comments
Poor guy. If you love your child, you have to accept them just the way they are.
Yes, accepting and loving your child, to the point of dying for them! However, it doesn't mean you have to accept/condone their sin. Just like any other sin, you can still love someone who; lies, steals, murders, etc. But, you never condone their sinful lifestyle.
Unfortunately, a lot of ('false') Christians have hate in their hearts. But, true Christ-followers, love ALL people. We just know that sin separates us from Yahweh...
sin is imaginary. Religion isn't for everyone. For a good reason.
If there were any justice, he'd be going to jail for his haircut.
subjecting him to his phobias in such sudden, rapid succession while asking him to relive his imposed weaknesses could have been dangerous. he could have broke down there and then if he wasn't that strong psychologically.
What was he gonna do, throw himself down the stairs lol
@@RudeulfTheGamer it's ok not to understand mental healthcare. Physical harm isn't the only thing a human can experience.
I completely agree. I have been binge watching these videos and I am very disturbed by Benjamin’s tactics. At this point in his career, he was not a psychologist, psychiatrist, nor a licensed clinical social worker. He’s described as a “psychological coach” and a “self help writer who has been through therapy.” It is completely reckless of him to be giving people “therapy” on this show. He’s supposedly a psychotherapist now, but he had no business playing therapist on this show. Most of the participants seems to be doing well now so I’m glad he didn’t do any lasting damage to anyone. Thankfully the interactions are not for a long time.
This episode, out of the three I've watched with this phycologist, is the only one I feel that those sessions with the client have helped and the creative therapy session part has made sense. I have watched 4 of these so far, and this phycologist doesn't seem to read his clients well usually or I have found the talk is down right cruel in nature.
I think this episode probably worked so well, because the client was so open.
he's not a psychologist. he is a "psychological coach" he doesn't hold a doctoral degree in any capacity. it's so creepy how he tries to pass himself off a psychologist/therapist when he isn't
I’ve seen a few where he seems to break down the client fairly well but I can’t get past his robotic, almost alien affect. Bro could put Ambien to sleep. Didn’t realize he wasn’t a real psychologist but I did always think the exercises he had them do were flaky and stupid.
He chats absolute crazy a lot of the time and has a real arrogance about him. The other actual psychologist that's on a few episodes is far better
A psychology coach is NOT the same as a psychologist ! Lets be very clear about that. Coaching is not the same as therapy.
Having a wobbly sensation and aversion to going down stairs is actually a sign of a neurological issue and can be common in people on the autism spectrum or with other sensory processing disorders. I’m surprised they went with his fears being a metaphor rather than evaluating for an underlying condition that might also explain his habits of spending and aversion to numbers.
I’m itching to get a pair of scissors to even up that hairdo 😂.
I’m sorry, a salary of around $13000?!
I know this was quite a few years ago, but I am *_Horrified_* how he was treated and bullied.
He's sweated more during the 30 minutes military workout than during an entire year with his personal trainer
I saw part of the title on the page, and i already knew it was gonna say "pay back taxes".
Why does every hair stylist have the same variation of this haircut? XD
The Mighty Boosh....
I wonder if they budgeted how much he spends on cigarettes. As a pack a day means nearly £5000 a year according to government statistics.
This was filmed in 2006
He earns 13k a year absolutely no way he gets £1600 a month - suppose that includes unpaid tax 💀
His mom is....like of course he didn’t tell you
Well done
Might as well ditch the personal trainer; the dude couldn't fight his way out of a wet paper bag
GoAvs 92/29/96 He seems a bit doughy for some who has a personal trainer.
02:31 - I think Ben's "internal psychological architecture" needs to be looked at | On the basis of wearing those shocking "man sandals" 😳 | On camera 😳😳
I believe so also in alot of basis!
I think we’ve found Oswald Cobblepot’s stylist!
I would *not* let this guy touch my hair.
Why the hell not?
Elaine Pavek look at his own hair lol
Emma Iles It’s 2005.
Good on you collin
I also struggle with going up and down stairs due to an knee issue.
That personal trainer was deffo ripping him off wtf
300 in the presidental suite was cheap
I want to stop shopping too
I always wanted a room with a roof like Colin's, it always felt so snuggly to me. I spent some time in a place like that and it had two walls like that, with the bed placed against the backwall and I loved it so much. I don't know what it is.
19:37
Hello there camera man
that hair was hot back then, you weren't around in the early 2000s obvi
Wow !!!! Colin's sister is Mega-Gorgeous !!!!! at 42:33 Go Colin !!!!! Way to go !!!
I actually lost my sense for money just watching him.
What’s that hair about 🤭😂
It was 2004/2005. We were still doing odd things with hair back then. He would have been considered cool and edgy.
@@jcspider7259 What they are doing with hair now that's cool and edgy will be considered odd in 10 years time too.
@@Salmiyaguy1 Yup
£125 for 4 underwear?
The sound and video are out of synch for the last 3rd of this show.
Yale lock next to a single glazed window on the front door is never a good idea.
The throw back style. Ugh. Lol
“Good hair”. Even in 2005 I hated that hairstyle. Always thought it made you look dumb and cheap.
And the Vodaphone bill of £1700+ would hardly be possible today. Some things from the past aren’t better, aka hair, clothes and phone bills, lol.
I wouldn’t let that man cut the hair off my cheapest party city wig. WTF is going on with his hair??? 🤣🤣
It was 2004/2005. We were still doing odd things with hair back then. He would have been considered cool and edgy.
God bless
God is dead.
He has a bad hair day everyday.
He's a stylist, obviously he did his own hair without the use of a mirror.
How tf is this 1080p quality?
Not paying Taxis is a very serious crime ...

They eff you up, your mum and dad.
They may not mean to, but they do.
They fill you with the faults they had
And add some extra, just for you.
But they were effed up in their turn
By fools in old-style hats and coats,
Who half the time were soppy-stern
And half at one another’s throats.
Man hands on misery to man.
It deepens like a coastal shelf.
Get out as early as you can,
And don’t have any kids yourself.
He doesn't spend much on his environment. Cute tiny bed and tiny bureau.
His mother is in denial and lieing
Oh there he is, good hair! :/
How can you spend cash money when you're out off money??
When I saw his haircut I just thought Nathan Barley 😂
Hairdresser man? Classic going broke trying to look rich
17:19. That guy was side eyeing him badly lol
How do you spend so much money on boxing but not know how to throw a basic 1-2 punch?!
hus friends need go respect him
Can he not attend a group fitness class instead of 1:1?
From what year was this?
His dad died in 2002 and he said that was 3 years ago so it would be 2005 when this was filmed
Has 2005 copyright (56:03), so would have been shot in either 2004 or 2005.
I'm a creative person but I'm not in debt so are they saying if your a creative person you should be in debt
For the motels have a 5 star rating by the pictures they don't look 5 stars
All of them are four star, city centre hotels. There is a height restriction in Dublin, meaning you cannot build any higher than what was shown. One of the hotels is owned by U2.
How nice he got enough money to spend, while we try to survive out here
His hair 😳

I wasn't sure about his hair.......
How does a hairstylist have such terrible hair?
